    I've been bad at responding to comments for anyone who has any questions, so I'll try my best to get to you guys. Keep in mind though that I'm no Tekken master, in fact I'm a scrub at this game, so I will have limited knowledge about certain things. I'm just here to try to add to the wealth of Tekken knowledge for pad users (DS4/Dualsense specifically).

  • @RunningWild.
    @RunningWild. 3 года назад +23

    30 minutes into practicing this and one thing that greatly increased my consistency was making sure that I pressed down back(on PS5 pad) together, and then of course, release them and hit back like he's saying but be sure to press them together. You will get the extra back just as he says.
    I can absolutely tell that this is going to take hella time and patience like you're saying. I was able to get a string of down back, backs together without the head bobbing. Without the first part, none of this works, so until the first part is absolute muscle memory, none of this is going to work and definitely not in battle.
    Thank you so much for this video. I'm at a point where I absolutely see how powerful this can be in my gameplay(im Ryujin blue rank level). So I'm going to spend the next two weeks not playing the game and simply working at this. Thanks again!

    Been a huge fan of Tekken since the first game and KBD has always stonewalled me from upping my skill level. I’m currently on day 7 of practicing this tutorial and still cannot do more than a double backdash at most. I’ve tried Speedkick’s methodology previously and no dice. I’ve tried every “trick” I could find. Time to face facts and give up Tekken altogether, which is sad because I really love the game, and have for decades now, other than this artificially difficult skill you have to learn just to move backwards.
    This isn’t to say that the video is bad or it doesn’t work. I fully accept it’s all me, and it’s too to see it has worked for others.

      @@Xaxan6523 we could probably have an hour long debate on the "necessity" of the difficulty of various things in tekken, but I'm of the opinion that it shouldn't be this difficult to just back away from your opponent. TMM had a video where I thought he made a good point - basically that knowing "when" to backdash is already difficult and takes a lot of skill to do it effectively, so knowing "how" to back dash doesn't need to be this hard.

    A very helpful video man and thank you for your help for this community.
    I play Tekken since tekken 2 but I was always too lazy to learn the korean backdash so I always hit backdash and than after that I cancel with a SS down.
    Anyway, my question to you is, what method for the KBD would you recommend?
    Do you recommend the method with the TIP of your thumb? Or rather the method with the BOTTOM of your thumb.
    I ask, because I'm learning it now and I realize that I pressure the tip of the thumb and it starts to feel uncomfortable.
    Is that normal at the beginning? And was it the same for you as you learned it?
    Just feel free to explain it how you mastered it :).

    im putting my time to learn this. But honestly this backdashing is so stupid do have in game. They could have just had this crap if you start spamming back button. Its unnecessary hand conditioning.

    • @zwerble_
      @zwerble_  4 года назад +7

      I know its unnecessarily difficult, especially for newcomers. That is the point though. The game is supposed to be immensily difficult to play and practice like it would be to train and fight in a real mma match; like how real fighters spend tons of time in the gym working on footwork and form just for one fight, you too will be spending lots of time in practice mode for just a few online matches.
      This concept of difficulty can apply for a game like Dark Souls as an example. As the chosen undead, you are destined to save Lordran and light the kiln of the first flame, but will suffer extreme torment in the process leading you closer to hollowing. Its a metaphor for how difficult the game will be for you. If the game was made easier, just like simplifying korean backdash, it would make this concept of hollowing or training to be the king of the iron fist less poignant.
      The point I am making is you have to want to be good if you want the full Tekken experience.

    • @Stockfish1511
      @Stockfish1511 4 года назад +7

      @@zwerble_ Sure, i understand your point. But i dont think that backdash is something that should require so much experience. Its not really a sort of knowledge thing to make your performance better. To be a better player you would need alot of experience, fundamentals, punishment knowledge and there are so many things that need to be improved. Korean backdash surely improves gameplay alot because it helps you force whifs etc. But honestly, is it really needed to go that far to simply learn backdashin? Not to mention how much strain it puts on your health. Fingers and wrist get painful from this movement alot and could very likely seriously injure wrist tendons and this gets much worse if you use an arcade stick. Most pro players who use arcade stick have pretty much painfull and iritated wrists from this movement alone. After all its a game to have fun, not a physical barrier or olympic weightlifting to push your physical limits lol. I understand the fact that it makes alot of difference from intermidiate to high level of tekken. But to me its still overcomplicated. For us tekken lovers who played the game for ages it really does not bother us. But for the community itself and 95% of people who are begineer to mid level would probably lead to frustrations because they cant stand a chance since the opponent has better arm conditioning and literaly is a pro at backdashing. This would probably lead many of them frustrated and probably throw away the game. Hopefully in the future tekken games they would change korean backdash into an easier patter like just simply backdashing 3 times fast and keeping the pace to start korean backdashing

      @KaesideIwuagwu 4 года назад

      @@Stockfish1511 I have to say I agree with this. I've been casually playing Tekken since Tekken 3 using pad. I tend to prefer arcade stick for games that have simpler movement like soul Calibur and Virtua fighter. Recently I've come to be obsessed with ergonomics. I type a lot of my job and i noticed I was getting pain from both poor typing and the wrong shaped mouse. I know pros have muscled through this and have used these complex movements for a while, but this movement feels unnecessarily complex. I would understand it if regular backdashes were useful but I most cases they aren't. I'm looking at trying out a hitbox not for precise movements but for better ergonomics.

    • @NuckleBebop
      @NuckleBebop 3 года назад

      @@Stockfish1511 Nope i can't backdash yet and im a new player in the sense that im now diving deeper into the game, but ive been pretty much mashing since the Tekken 2 demo i got with my original Playstation as a kid, but i don't agree with you, there are plenty of simple fighting games to play, why do you think smash is so popular, i chose Tekken as a fighting game i want to learn in depth because of these complex mechanics, and i appreciate them and the reward for actually putting in the effort to learn them and I don't want to see it added to the dumbed down pile. In this era of gaming it seems "fun" means instant gratification and winning, ive lost a whole lot but i still have fun because im never on autopilot and gradually win more & more games as i make progress and learn my character and different matchups, Im never bored that uphill process is fun to me, thats Tekken to me and im confident every good player went through the same process. If its a medical issue that holds you back then honestly you cant fault a game that has always been the way it is for that, choose a different controller like mix or hit box or another game, but changing a fundamental part of a legacy game like Tekken so drastically wont do the series any good, Tekken 7 almost didn't happen and they cant make the same mistake Street Fighter V did after the triumph that was Street Fighter IV.....Tekken 7 is our Street Fighter IV, just my opinion.

    • @samboyaus
      @samboyaus 3 года назад

      @@NuckleBebop i don't think anyones arguing to remove everything and anything that makes this game deep and difficult. Tekken's not going to suddenly not be a hard game any more if they just reduce the cool down between backdashes. I think it is kind of dumb you have to practice so hard just to be able to effectively back away from your opponent when there's so much else going on in this game that is so much more fun and interesting to spend time practising.
      TMM had a video on the "unnecessary" difficulty of tekken and he used the kbd as an example, arguing that since it takes skill to know "when" and "why" you should back dash, is it really necessary for it to be difficult to know "how" to back dash?

    They should do challenges like how sf 4 and 5 had. But for the korean back dash cuz thing is a pain to figure out if you're doing it right.

    Great tutorial, im trash but I now sometimes get the motion right a few times in a row (not the first time thought wich is the most important) but I guess is a matter of time and practice.

    Don't do the dash part start out with just a downback then input one back after its much easier this way to build chains

    At 3:00 you're talking about how when you release down+back you get an "automatic" back input, but on your first attempt to show us that, you clearly get a neutral input and then you reset and try again, so how is it an "automatic" back? I've seen a few other videos suggest the same thing but when ever I try it always goes to neutral when I release down+back

    • @noir2967
      @noir2967 3 года назад +1

      You have to time it so the back gets released a split-second before the down. This gives you a back input.

    I’ve been trying this method on the ps5 controller and it’s still working perfectly thanks to you. I watched multiple tutorials but this one is the best so far. My question is that i’m not sure whether i’ll be able to be fast enough without having to hold the back button after df. Does anyone know which part of the kbd has to be pressed fast compared to the other buttons?

    Just a question for understanding. I’m practicing for 2 weeks now. Input works but after every training session my thumb hurts after 10 min already now. Is that normal due to gaining muscle memory?

      It is, before I learned it was a little sore on my thumb but now I don’t feel it anymore because of experience with the proper motion
