    Leverless/Hitbox is a game changer for me. I was born with a disabled left hand, extremely stiff and slow fingers. With leverless, I can help using my right fingers to push direction buttons on P1. Im 40yrs old now, i never thought ill be coming back to play Tekken again after playing TT1 and T3 on arcades decades ago.

    I'm definitely a controller nerd and I love watching videos about different peripherals and this is one of the best I've seen just in idea alone. Instead of vaguely talking about how good or bad different peripherals could be, you go in, test, and then show how well the peripherals do with each specific technique. Awesome work man.

    The reason why Instant While Running is easier when input as fnff compared to ffnf is because the game recognizes iWR as "input finished within ~6 frames after starting a dash". So if you start your dash later (fnff), there'll be less time between the dash and the button compared to if you start your dash earlier (ffnf).

    for anyone playing on keyboard/leverless. Some cheats that aren't mentioned here. p1 side electric: you can use your right hand to press 2 and forward and the same time, so it's essentially free with very little practice. p2 side wave dash: Hold left with your left ring finger. then tap right with your right index, then roll right, down with your left index and middle for SOCD wave dash.

    Great vid! As someone who uses a ps controller for every fighting game, something that's always worked for me to make inputs easier is swapping between the d-pad and analog stick for certain motions. I say ps controller specifically because of the positioning of the stick and d-pad. I find it harder to move my thumb up for the xbox controller analog then to move my thumb down for the ps analog for qcf and qcb motions among some other things.
    A good example is specifically for doing EWGF (exclusively on P1 side, P2 side is d-pad only), I press forward on the d-pad then move my thumb down to do the d,df motion on the analog stick so i can more accurately think about pressing 2 when i press down. It also helps with stuff like:
    Wave dash - qcf on analog, f on d-pad
    Snake dash - qcf on analog, up on d-pad
    Hayashida step - qcb on analog, up on d-pad
    etc...
    I know transitioning between analog stick and d-pad can be a little weird for some people but it's helped me a TON specifically with Tekken.
    That all being said, that leverless is looking mighty enticing as a Lili player

    If you are going with leverless for KBD a slightly different method I learned recently that makes me much faster is plinking. Plinking is where you quickly roll your fingers to get inputs on separate frames
    On P1: hold back > plink from forward to down with left hand > tap right with right hand (This Wavedashes on P2 side) / ALT: while holding left > tap down with left hand > double tap right with right hand
    On P2: plink from down to right with left hand > tap right with right hand (This also Wavedashes on P1 side)
    Also for iWR on leverless if you SOCD plink dash (press and hold forward and quickly tap back) and just plink back right after like a fast double tap basically you’ll get the while running.
    I hope that made sense cause I’ve never attempted to explain this in writing before.

    A little note, the korean lever grommet feels more intuitive to kbd on not just because of the extra tension, but because the natural way that the rubber goes back to will more naturally release down first and then back. The tension of the grommet is non-linear and vs the spring tension which is linear.

  • @JoaoCosta-lt1mc
    @JoaoCosta-lt1mc 4 месяца назад +1

    On leverless, if you "uninvert" the up and down buttons, meaning if you map D-Pad down to the button that you can hit with either thumb, the SOCD backdash becomes extremely simple on both sides, because you can do the backdash cancel by tapping the D-Pad down button with your right thumb.
    Same idea on keyboard, map D-Pad down to the space bar, so you can hit it with either thumb.

  • @MrNigel117
    @MrNigel117 4 месяца назад +1

    for controllers, i've heard of some players use the stick for certain inputs that a dpad might make slightly more difficult.
    also a major thing kb has is access to the arrow keys as a second set of inputs (not sure if that's tournament legal) but it makes wavedashing easier cause i can tap f with my right thumb. same with kbd, i can hold b tap f with my thumb, and then tap d with my left middle finger.
    plus there's the additional buttons that's easy to map. i find transitioning from kb to a leverless is hard because i use q, and e for shortcuts which pretty much every controller option other than kb doesn't have. i also really like the smaller keys, imo it's less travel time from key to key and i feel like i have to stretch my hand to fit the buttons.

    For KBD, iWR, Electrics and Wavedash on 1P side, nothing beats leverless with the "2nd position". Using the right index finger to press "right", instead of with just the left hand. This splits up the required dexterity between both your hands/fingers. The bad news is this doesn't apply to 2P side, unless you have an extra "left" button bound on the right side, ala Cross Up.
    Thanks for the video, very interesting to compare input methods.

    I think the “think down +2” for electric works because most peoples hand or thumb drifts after hitting any input . So a lot of times you will naturally drift from down to down forward, especially if in your brain you headed to down forward anyways because of the crouch dash. So something about the timing between your brain thinking and your hands responding, by the time it all registers you end up pressing 2 at the same time as the down forward even tho in your head you though down +2.

    One tip for the Instant While Standing inputs with QCF input (at least for Pad as that's the only controller I'm using) is to do the full QCF input, but be sure to go back to neutral before inputting your attack, since the specific crouch dash attack only gets triggered when you hit D, DF, F+Button -> hitting D, DF, F, N+Button will give you a while standing move.
    That way you still get an instant while standing move while having much more leniency with your directional inputs, since you don't have to be so careful not to hit the forward input.
    (I'm not sure if this works for every character but it works for Nina and I'm just gonna assume it works for others, feel free to correct me though)
    EDIT: Turns out this only really works for Nina. Other specific moves like Bryan's WS3 works, but seemingly only because his QCF3 is the same move.

    16:21 - OMG! This adviced helped me SO DAMN much getting the electrics more consistently on pad now... I used to do a weird ass grip where I pull the left stick together with my thumb when I press triangle to get electircs basically 100% of the time. But thats not mobile enough and only helps against non moving opponents. With this trick I can get better with pad until I get me a Hitbox.

    I wired my thumb on my leverless to be down. It really helps with fatigue when it comes to finger fatigue with KBD on both sides using sodc. Honestly it reduces finger fatigue in general since you very rarely will go from middle->ring->middle->ring which is where most of the pain problems come from. Had to swap from stick since my wrist couldn't take it anymore and leverless turned out to be just as bad for me pain wise until I swapped these inputs.

    Couple of notes for leverless. P1 side is generally better for leverless players because you can put your right hand on the right direction button. This allows for faster KBDs and Wavedashes using your right hand for some inputs. And auto-timed electrics using your right hand to hit right + 2 at the same time.

    • @MC_HANDROLLED
      @MC_HANDROLLED 4 месяца назад +2

      True but it’s a bit of a crutch because you’ll be so much weaker on the other side. IMO it’s better to just learn the proper movement and timings. You’ll go to play offline and get washed

    • @noctuid9353
      @noctuid9353 4 месяца назад

      If you have a controller with more thumb buttons or just a keyboard, you can hit any direction with your right thumb, and KBDs and wavedashes are trivial on either side
      Or you can just swap up and down like someone else mentioned and hit that with your right thumb (though that won't help with electrics)

      not true, if ur left hand fingers work nice ur not faster using ur right hand to help.
      That just helps if ur left hand fingers are slow and stiff.

      This is because you can skyrocket in skill on P1 Leverless and there's a large learning curve on P2 that dudes tend not to practice on that side... And there's way less shortcuts.

    Great video covering all the peripherals.
    Not that I use it myself, but I think there is something oddly enticing about using the Xbox Series controller for Tekken. The fact that you can't depress the middle actually makes your overall inputs a lot cleaner, and it's so tactile that there's no mistaking what you're doing. I would extract the d-pad and put it in every controller I own if I could. For me it's probably the best d-pad in recent memory, and 2nd best of all time, only behind the GBA SP.

    • @c1ownh4rd
      @c1ownh4rd Месяц назад

      absolutely! It got me only a week to get used to and I'd never go back to ps controllers. Another tech with it is that you dont have to commit to adjescent direction with your thumb, for examle in korean backdash, I put my thumb on the low edge of "back" and pull in downwards if I need to "backcrouch" so my thumb never leaves the place. I'd loose my shit over Steave's shiro combo trying it on a ps dpad. Learned it in 2 days with xbox controller. But honestly, I swithed like 4 of them because of it's chinese plastic, stick drifts and other bs. They don't last. The price on them should be like 10$ at max. So yeah, that dpad must be fkin golden literally. "With great power comes bags of money you idiot" :D
      P.S. I was a sony boy since ps1 up until Xbox X and a tekken boy since tekken 3.

    A Pad tip that instantly improved my EWGF is doing the full input with my left hand only, Using L1 (2+3 Heat burst) to do EWGF instead of 2..
    This worked well in Tekken 7 but in Tekken 8 they changed something so now this only works for Kazuya and Reina, not Jin and Devil Jin, you will get the command throw if you try that on them.

      Check all shortcuts that have a 2, chances are a different one on left trigger gives 2 priority when it read the CD input
      I'm guessing you use the 2+3 which now gives priority to the 2 command throw

    The keyboard is 90% like a hitbox, but there are some differences which I consider beneficial:
    - It doesn't lock you into doing directionals with the left hand and attacking with the right, a lot of people use arrows with their right hand to move and attack with the left. AFAIK Devilster plays like this.
    - WASD layout is great for people coming into fighting games with a lot of experience in other game genres, especially highly technical games like Counter Strike that also have movement techniques with strict timings.
    - If you feel like bending the rules a little (or a lot), you can map not only D-pad directionals, but both stick directionals as well. Mapping the right stick is pretty cool for turning the camera in customization mode, but the left stick actually gives you a second set of directional inputs, which you can do absolutely nutty things with.
    - If you're into mechanical keyboards - they allow for a lot of customization and self-expression, just like arcade sticks. Different switches, different keycaps, different keyboards allow you to dial in both look and function exactly like you want.
    - I actually play on a custom split keyboard that is split in two halves, allowing me to have my hands around shoulder width apart, contributing to good posture and reducing fatigue.
    I'm actually developing an open-source fighting keyboard right now! Split in two halves, fully customizable and (hopefully) very cheap to build, with support for all the cool firmwares like GP2040-CE, QMK, ZMK, KMK, etc.

    I do the 1st with left index 2nd with right and then left index again + the command button I need with right hand.
    It took a while to me to make it natural but now is really satisfying 😂

    Just a note for keyboard players/leverless players with extra buttons and customizable button mappings. I would consider binding left to a button that's easily reachable with your right hand (perhaps with your right thumb). I think it really helps with P2 execution of most techniques and means you have to rely on your weak left ring finger a lot less. Questionable if legal (although as far as I am aware TWT doesn't have rules against duplicate binds like CPT does), but if push comes to shove you might have to unbind left from your left hand. A little less intuitive for blocking and normal movement, but would probably still pay dividends in the long run.

    for keyboard users ive been following the advice from another video I saw recommending QASD, with Q being up and A being down to use the same fingers for every motion.
    for leverless users i recommend getting a Wooting analog keyboard, as it has the lowest input delay, lowest actuation point and rapid trigger functionality. rapid trigger deactivates the key as soon as you remove pressure from the key, doing away with the key travel problem keyboards have had as opposed to leverless buttons. ive used hitbox from tekken tag 2 and have since switched to a keyboard that I can input TJUs on. also you can configure it to output as a DirectX gamepad so you can use it on any console.

    I love leverless for KBD specifically because of a weird thing I can do with full-neutral SOCD cleaning - instead of doing the cancel by using crouch and the opposing direction, for some reason it also works with up, so using my left hand for the left-right SOCD and my right thumb for up, I was able to go from not being able to KBD to being a pretty fast backdasher in maybe 10 minutes of practice.
    Also on leverless IWR is even easier than Phi showed - you can take 3 fingers and piano them one after the other on a single direction, holding down the last finger, to get a SUPER fast IWR.

    For the wavedash, if you're struggling to do 2 at once I suggest doing the half step. After doing a normal mishima crouch dash, do a forward. You know you're doing it properly if you see your character doing a f,f animation. This f,f is also crucial to wavedashing because a lot of the mix-ups come from this as well. Also, in order to master this, I don't suggest using Kazuya or Reina because they have a mist step. This can be used like a crutch if ever you have a misinput on your wavedash.

    Instant while standing i accidentally did in a match - practiced it and now i know how to do it ever since 👏

  • @justinli826
    @justinli826 4 месяца назад

    It's important as well to note for all input methods, when doing iWS (instant while-standing) moves, there's a different way to do it that's more speed based, so it can be more or less difficult depending on which method you are doing.
    The "cheat" iWS method here is to do a wavedash, but instead of doing a neutral and then back+button to get the iWS, you go immediately from df to db, release the button and hit the move. What this does is cancel your wavedash into a crouch and you can do your ws move after letting go of the button as per normal. This will be easier for most people who are doing iWS moves out of a wavedash, but may not be fast enough for situations where you're e.g. using the iWS in a combo. The difference is negligible for situations where you're doing it for oki or mixups.
    The true iWS method (what Phi is doing here) is timing based, and comes down to being comfortable with your inputs, but you're also more likely to get the wrong input if you get the timing wrong. You have more flexibility in when the move comes out with the cheat method, but it can't get as fast.

    I use the Hitbox Crossup primarily because my wrist gets really pained and strained from inputs, but I think this translates to other controllers as well: I found out there’s an alternate way to get an iwr on bryan at least, just by doing qcf~b, which is useful for his iwr2.

    Plastic leverless controllers were painful, so I use shoeboxes now. It helps a lot actually.
    Btw, leverless allows slipping buttons insted of pressing/smashing wich is hella useful for kbding. And yeah with slipping tech you can socd kbd on both sides with one hand.
