    Tip: try looking at the shoulders and overall character profile rather than zeroing in on the hands.
    I FORGOT TO EXPLAIN: we use Dragunov because his throws dont' have motion inputs. There's no "telegraph" like some other characters have; you have to see the hands. It also makes it easier to record the throws in the first place!
    Also, when I said "parries are unbreakable" around 13:20, I meant "getting thrown while parrying makes the throw unbreakable"

      Aris used to do these throw break tutorials too. I like one part of his video in "TTT2 Throw Break Training and Theory" at 4:30 when he says "Also, what you should do when you're practicing throw break is, every time you practice them, make sure you practice them against a different character, because as you can see Armor Kings hands look different than Asukas hands, and Kazuyas hands may look different than Jack's hands so don't practice breaking your throws against ONE character that's a bad idea.". Watching out for animations against big characters is hard if you're only used to "normal" characters.

    Things to notice on each grab type:
    1 break - The left hand RAISES
    2 break - The body TURNS
    1+2 break - His arms come STRAIGHT out.
    Therefore this is what intensely focused on and would even say out loud for each break: "Raise" , "Turn", or "Straight"
    So once I mastered doing the breaks in pairs of 2, then I started to practice all 3 together. I was ok...
    It really started to work when I mastered each pair on fast speed. Then I would work on all 3.

    I literally stood still during a match with king just to induce him to grab me because I wanted to practice breaking throws one time, I really was having a hard time with the matchup. Now I wouldn't recommend it, but a tip I can give is, go into a match with the intention to look out for throws and break them, even if you lose

      @@Cheltastiqueas a king main I'll give you some tips, the way how to know what throws coming from king is actually in the movement. If he's running into you, it's more than likely going to be a 2 break ..don't even look at the hands . If a king puts out 2 hands from neutral , it literally has to be a guess as that's what the character is designed around.. throws. In this case look for a pattern .. If you were giant swinged first time, assume giant swing second time.. tap 1 .
      If u see muscle buster tap both punch . A good king will mix up those 2 throws .
      Every tombstone or tiuanna twister though is reactable .
      For the wave dash in throws .. expect usually 2 punch break for all . Good king will try to mix it up but at first assume 2 punch for all since that's always going to lead to the most damaging startup .
      Know at minimum ur rolling death cradle break. U will always have to eat the second option if king does that instead .. but u have to prevent death cradle damage . Spam 2

Obviously it's going to require actual in-game experience, along with parsing out each opponents' habits, but building some muscle memory will be huge. Thanks for the clear explanation!

    Great guide! Just one thing, is there a particular point on Dragunov's arms or body that you look at to quickly suss out the difference between the 1+2 and the 2 grab? Even with lots of warmup, I feel like there is a stark difference to how the grab animation looks like when he completely whiffs a target compared to when he grabs onto you. This is the only combination I'm struggling with over a couple days now and only from 1p side really, it seems more clear from 2p. Any advice?

      @@PhiDX Shoulders definitely helped! For Dragunov it seems he leans his head differently for each grab too altho I don't think that's a common thing for most characters. I like doing 1 break and 2 break together on both sides and almost mastering that first. Practice the 1+2 alone and then add together and the 1+2 will stick out from the others.
    1 break and 2 break are pretty easy to master. While doing that say "left" or "right" in your head. This helps solidify it on both sides and forces you to stay locked in.

      Problem is, most characters only have the generic throws and 1+2 break command throws. So if you go down that route, maybe practicing to distinguish generic vs command is the better way to go imho

    • @kgeo2686
      @kgeo2686 5 месяцев назад

      @@LordViktorHun88Well if you just learn to break 1 break, 2 break, and 1+2 breaks then you will also be find vs generics. Like Phi said, pretend their is not such thing as generic (throws that can be broken with 1 or 2) and just learn proper command throw breaks.

    Started implementing this routine and when it is broken down as such I start to understand much better why I can't break throws.
    To start it I can't even register it as it is so fast to me right now. The problem is especially the 1+2 throw as it is hard to differentiate it fast enough even in the warmup session I was caught of guard more than I am willing to admit which is odd though as uf+1+2 is i12 and f+1+4 and f+2+3 are i11 yet they SEEMS easier to recognize.
    At first I started to evaulate is as the 1+2 throw is not 1 or 2 throw but that takes too much time thinking so I'll need to switch how I recognize it.
    Also a question, how do you deal with Kings mixups, how do you prevent yourself form doing a 1+2 throw break out of habbit/reflex.

Been stuck on level 1 and max I can do in a row is 5, but I fuck up. So glad a respected member of the community actually posted something about Tekken that's about how to train. We have so many videos and guides about how to perform actions and think about the game, but we have so little about how to train effectively and appropriately. My method was pretty similar to this and it's very important to do both sides. Every time I'd boot up Tekken, I wasn't allowed to get on Ranked unless I went into Practice Mode and broke 10 Throws in a row. I didn't do 8/10, I just wouldn't leave until 10 Throws were broken consecutively. And now my Throw Breaks are much better, and I can break even Steve's fast Wall Push Back Sway Throw and that thing is fast.

    For anyone struggling a lot to break 8/10 in Level 1 like I have, I came up with a "Level 0.5" that I think goes well with these drills. It's just like Level 1 but instead of trying to break 8/10 throws, your goal is to just break 8 throws without making any wrong inputs. This means if you press the correct break but it was just too late, you don't reset your count. You only start over if you pressed the wrong break. This goal is a bit easier to achieve and it's been helping me drill in the whole "It's better to be late than wrong" thing. Then of course once this becomes easy you do the normal Level 1.

    • @kennethamielsantos8034
      @kennethamielsantos8034 7 месяцев назад

      @barnacleman3233 Does it count if you guessed right after seeing the animation rather than reading the grab itself? (Example, when dragunov uses the 1 throw, he breaks your leg, now does my guess count if I already saw the leg break animation but didn't notice whether he used the left or right arm during the grab itself?)

    • @Claudlines
      @Claudlines 6 месяцев назад +5

      @@kennethamielsantos8034
      I would say no. You should only count "correct guesses" if you actually read the arm of the throw and actually pressed the correct button even if its pressed a bit late.
      Whats most important is to ensure you are not guessing when you press a button even if its a late press. With practice it will get quicker.

      To add, so that you don't react based on the succesful throw animation, you can make character lay on the ground, activate the throws mixups, then grab an unplugged controller or whatever you could get your hands into, and try to break the throws.

      I'm trying to do this right now and I'm trying to make it harder and do 10 in a row. I don't mash, but sometimes I mix up what to press and I realize my mistake. Yes I should just press even if I fail, but you start to really know the animation. Like the 1 break here is a side swap, but the 2 break is not.
      So I'm still stuck on level 1 after like 15mins cuz I have not done 10 in a row.

      @Krugmatik Maybe just focus on the beginning where you back up and the cpu repeats grabs. Just have the cpu repeat the right grab or 1+2 grab and just watch the grab. Remember to get rest and not beat yourself too hard over it, as that doesn't help muscle memory or reaction time

    Excellent approach. I'm a BIG fan of practice sessions and you hit the nail on the head.
    1: correctness over speed
    2: short sessions (brain learns after play)
    3: do this often

    you're better at this than TMM ever was, that guy is the biggest tekken content creator who based his whole career on tekken tutorials and he never showcased training drills and how to make good use of practice mode, this is a brilliant practice method on throws, very informative . this is really good stuff right here.

    You are completely right about better to be slow than to be wrong. Even after training throw breaks and consistently breaking about eight in a row, my bad muscle memory from T7 during matches sometimes still comes through where I instinctively press 1 or 1+2. It's definitely going to take some time to unlearn that

    So I have about 10 hours practicing throw breaks using the method you've described and it just doesn't compute in my head, the 2 break looks identical to the 1+2 break. So after 10 hours of practicing, I've come to the conclusion that the way throws function in Tekken is complete dog shit, trivial for top players, a gimmicky mess for the other 80% of people.

  • @TheSLashera
    @TheSLashera 6 месяцев назад +1

    Booy. The 3 grabs total is hard as a motherfucker. But such a good drill! I reduced it to just 1-2 for now cause the 3 altogether are mind fucking me way too bad. I'll add the 1+2 in a day or something.
    Edit: Oh Jees. I set the whole thing up before we got to the part with df1 and timing back to normal. I just tried all 3 in shuffle and that had me in the blender.
    And one more thing I notice my brain automatically tries to go into 'read mode' try to turn off that anticipation and just watch. For example when he does multiple 1 breaks in a row, try to turn off the anticipation in your brain. So you don't 'expect' that he is/isn't going to do it again. We are not trying to predict. We are trying to react. : )

    Yo, got one question. When you said to practice for like 5 to 10 mins do you mean all levels at the same time ?! I guess not, so I think you forget to mention that we have to do 5 to 10 mins one level and once we get the 8/10 throws we go on the next level and we don't come back to the previous the next time we train right ?
    Maybe it was so obvious, that you didn't feel like mention it but I still want to know to be sure x'). Anyways great vid and thanks for the help !

    I think the hardest thing for me right now is differentiating the 1 break and 1+2 break. However, I’m also realizing that the more I fail, the more I’m starting to notice drag’s left hand come out further when a 1 throw comes out. It almost feels like he’s moving in slow motion

    My problem is the hit property effects for the throw gets in the way of seeing what hands are being thrown. I know it's a matter of getting the repetitions in but it's annoying nonetheless. Turning down the graphics settings to the lowest for effects might've just helped me I think after experimenting for a bit.

    I find it VERY difficult to distinguish between 2 and 1+2 break. Since the arm on a 2 break (depending how close you are to the opponent) basically disappears behind my character i came up with a different´point of identification, lets say.
    when its a 2 break, the opponent tucks his left arm DOWN to is ribs. So i took that information and went from there. When its a 1+2 break i can see the opponents head still, while when its a 1 break, i cannot (depends on positioning obv, but this was my starting point)
    Also i started with 2 variants instead of just 1 over and over, because i quickly started to react to the modelanimation doing a move instead of the actuall animation of the throw.

    man... i've been playing tekken 7 for 380 hours and tekken 8 for 30 and i cannot see the difference between the regular grabs and 1+2. the difference between 1 or 2 is pretty easy to see though, i just hate how sometimes one hand is entirely behind a character and you can't tell if that hidden hand moved or not.
