hi PhiDX, i know rank isnt everything but i just wanted to thank u for ur digestible content. this is my first tekken game and ur content has helped me understand (relatively... lol) the game & i managed to get to red rank with lili even while being a quadriplegic. i had a spinal cord injury in 2015 & never imagined i could play tekken, even if its sub-optimally lol. thanks again
You are very strong. My father lost the use of his legs and had eyes issues after a car accident in 2018 and all my respect and prayers go to disabled folks. ❤
i recognized this in t7 even as well. 16:10 whenever a character does an animation that looks kinda odd, chances are that its gonna be a punishable low.
Drills like these have helped me so much over the years, doing stuff like this, side step training, throw break training, and punishment training will make you a completely different player, you stop just pressing buttons and start watching for mistakes to capitalize on
As someone who eats every snake edge thrown its way, I appreciate this very much. I know they're out there, I know they'll throw them, I know they're happening and I'm just there, standing. I've gotten better at getting them to whiff though. Congrats on the GoD! Your stats are sick
level 3 and Law ones have been so useful already after even one run through the drills. Throws are a different beast but combining 1 and 2 throw already helped a ton. Definitely will be doing this more often (once a day?) to help improve my defense. Ure a saint Phi!
When I specifically covered in detail and proved Jin's db4/LLRK reactability, being the _exact same martial art technique_ (Gedan Mawashi Geri - textbook Kyokushin Karate low kick technique), TMM called me "disingenuous" and implied I was a liar. Hi PhiDX Love the content. Wanted to let you know your videos helped me get to Fujin. Never thought I would be able to hit this rank. Thanks for all the videos
Tekken should feature community drills that can be copied, pasted, and played without having to set up each time, as well as some message from the drill's owner.
I was wondering how long it took you (and others) to be able to break 1 & 1+2. I just feel like no matter how long I wait to look at it, I can't differentiate between them at range 0, even looking at the torso
My reaction time differs when i'm using stick and keyboard or hitbox. I have much faster reaction time on hitbox or keyboard, in stick it's still kind of off. Now im working on it
I got a little bit mad as I played against Dragunov with the multiple throws that looks so similar and could not tech at once. After that in the replay, the game shows me three different throw tech inputs and since then I hate Dragunov just much more. This drill list is my next step the next time I play Tekken and got to level 2. 😏
Hello phidx, i am able to react/follow a read and block helsweep or stagger lows, yet i can never react after this to use the correct punish, especially in clutch end of round pressure. Any tips??
Phi is becoming the ATP of T8. So many people watched those character tutorials for TTT2, and now Phi will be the starting point for SOOO many players "getting good" journey.
For everyone who doesn't like to play online or gets nervous easily, this is a great way to turn fighting games into single player games. I find this type of training a lot of fun honestly, and it's a great break from ranked rage grinding
I know this is slightly of topic but something that works for me is that for every time I lose I do 5x reps of an exercise of my choice, curls, push ups , sit ups, squats, etc etc. It really helps to take of some of that pressure and release the steam
The reason I didn't suggest hopkick vs. Dragunov db3 vs. db3,1+2 - I didn't realize it at the time - i think the 9f jumpstate requirement is harder to hit than the reaction block~release That said, Level 3 is pretty hard. Feel free to jump to the Law drill as needed.
The throw breaks together is nightmare, i can react well to those those 3 options, but the throw breaks by themselves are hard. But anyway, i'm loving your training guides man, helped me a lot
I think the best option isn't raw hopkick as a reaction, it's duck~hopkick (or a WS launcher that doesn't leave you crouching). Time it so that you'll block the low and no longer be crouching by the time the throw would connect.
Love your content Phi! Came just to share this simple remedy for the db3 fuzzy block shinanigan. I found that a well-timed FC df2 with Steve, right after Drag's db3 kick animation, (you may have to mash 2 a bit if the kick does come out and blocked), is a very effective and easy muscle memory solution that beats both db3 and db3~1+2,cuz it whifs the grab since Steve is no longer crouching, instead of having to "notice" which one is its visually.
Think I just found a feasible OS for this. First, practise blocking db3 and hitting your ws punish button early enough that it doesn't come out. You'll see this won't take long. Next, start hitting that button twice, regardless of which option he goes with. The first press takes you out of crouch state early enough to avoid the throw and launches, the second punishes the db3. It is much easier than it might sound, boiling down to holding db for a second, then smashing your ws2 or equivalent. You have to see it a mile off to use a low crush option, even if it is very satisfying (law's ub3,4 is my fave), and you really want an answer that works whether you react late or early. edit: Sorry, user-v01... I just noticed you basically said the same thing, but I don't think it got across. It really is better than any low-crush option, and easy as pie.
For people that are following this drill, it is very important to do it on both sides, you will be surprised how a side switch could throw you off. Another more practical option for the dragonuv snake edge punish, is to input ws punish in both cases at the same time you would have blocked it, the throw does not catch ws state.
im tappin in to the local offline scene and yeah, knowing p2 side is CRUICIAL. i dont wanna be at an instant disadvantage if im on p2 side, so ima be just running p2 online for a while until its as good as my p1
I’m not home to test at the moment but you could even take it a step further with Drag’s snake edge punish and crouch block to launch no matter what (assuming your character has an appropriate launch like a WS2 or hop kick out of crouch). I am thinking that if Drag lets the snake edge rip, then your characters block animation will eat the launch and you can punish accordingly. If Drag fakes the snake edge into the crouch throw, the launch will catch Drag as he is doing the crouch throw. Good option select for both cases, just requires muscle memory drilling like Phii is stating in this video. Either way, good advice all around.
This guy is trully a monster teaching people, however, in this particular video its trully impressive, i've been struggling with no reacting to anything and just eat shit. Thanks for your work!
I tried that SK Law drill after the previous video on it. Decided soon after to go back to training the little stuff at my level. Got to climb my rock before I even look at the mountain and all that. Thank you for putting all these drills into one video with really good recaps and progress levels. It's quite helpful for motivation to know there's a next step further up.
Now if only we could save drills so it would be possible to do them between matches or at least not having to rerecord them every damn time... Kills all the motivation for me.
That throw break one is tough! Just realized all these years I have been using the heart of the cards to break throws and not my own reaction skills rofl
Ahh this reminds me of the time i decided to take this game seriously and started training. Once in T7 Law whopped me many times i was so helpless, we added each other and he said ‘Yeah man junkyard has to be lowparried on the second hit everytime, if you dont wanna be at disadvantage’ i trained that for hours. Im grateful to that player to this day for his attitude, i was always lazy to lab all this stuff but its really a slow and long proccess that indeed pays of.
These drills really do work. The SK Law drill and learning how to review my own replays helped me get to purple ranks after being stuck in green ranks in T7. Your content is leveling so many players up. Keep it up!
@PhiDX I just wanted to say how much I appreciate all your hard work and dedication to the Tekken community. With your videos, I feel that my skill are getting better every day, and I really appreciate that.
You can just delay hopkick Dragunov's snake edge mixup. Or do any jumping attack if your character doesn't have generic delayed hopkick or a usual one, I think there was like a couple of these in t7, not sure about t8. It is much easier and gives just as much of a reward with a launch punish. Pls pin so that people can see.
I want to point out something you've taught before, but I feel scared to do so, that your muscle memory gets better so to speak during the recovery (when you take a break, when you sleep, when you go out and touch grass after these training drills). That's all
Tekken must have a mode where people can name and upload their drills to download with a notepad description. Make it like based, and the "hard to pickup, hard to master" is immediately is a "doable to pickup, hard to master" " easy to pickup, hard to master" would be perfect game design
I have steroid cheat for reacting to these. You wear a VR headset and use UEVR to play the game in VR instead. You will be surprised at how your vision are enhanced once you are literally in the game. Thing that are hard to react become easier to react since they are life sized. Of course it doesn't help in tournament but it's fun.
For Level 3 when every I see Dragunov db3 I just duck and spam ws launcher. If Drag do db3 then I get a launch. If Drag do db3, 1+2 I still get a launch! because I'm already doing launcher before Drag grab me XD Love you PhiDX from Thailand
For me, level 5 or level one million is half of Xiaoyu's move list😆. Especially her heat - hypnotist mix-up and the snake edge. I don't know what's wrong with her snake edge, but I'm never able to react to it. Her hypnotist 2 and 3 have literally the same start up animation. Who the hell came up with this👺👺?

Hi, I like this drill. It helps me calm. I always jump into rank match without any practice, and I’m scrub. Now I will spend some time in practice mode. I appreciate this video.
i think playing guilty gear before made breaking throws frustrating in tekken as you dont really need to tech in any gg game as the window is only 10 frames and the risk reward is worse than jumping/backdashing/mashing in some cases, as well as not needing to input the correct button to break it. Something thats interesting is that in GG 18 frames is considered reactable, whereas in tekken you said 25 frames. I wonder why that is
I previously do Dragunov throw break (with about 50% success) -> SK Law drill from previous VDO (about 30% success). Seem I will focus more on enhance Dragunov drill for now (since I hate Dragunov much more xD) Also will there be drill with side step involve ? I mostly play Tekken as 2D fighter now with very few exception with I do AoP / Back turn stance because it include sidestep in it.
Honestly, as an old man. (32) I didn't think I could do level 3, but I surprised myself. Lol. Took a bit, but I think I got it. Level 4 though, has been a struggle.😅 Love this vid. Keep 'em coming, PhiDX. I got to get an edge up somewhere.
What i hate THE MOST is that yoshis low unblockable launcher is 25 frames iirc, while for example lili’s is 30!!!! Like wtf namco. I eat that shit 90% of the time online it’s just so hard reading that shit. And you can’t block it. It should have been 30f minimum. Not to mention they are making characters strings and movements too complicated- reina for example- her movement is like a tornado of neverending strings, lows, grabs… that’s too much.
Something to add on to this video; For Dragonuv Hell Sweep: Learn to enter your While Standing launch (mash it actually) just before the HS is about to connect. You'll block the HS and launch, and you'll launch the grab attempt, and the cancel. (2) If you don't want the information cluster around your player side but you still want to see if you punished or not: Start on P2 with Side Switch On😂. Your attack info will be on the P2 and you can see things clearer on P1 side. Later! And good luck!👊🏿
I always add a split second or so of holding back directly after recording a move to simulate the dummy blocking. I find it easier that way to see if it was an actual punish, rather than having to check for the punish signal. It's more immediate feedback and less distracting
Would ya mind me asking, but is d+2 from Jin really that reactable? I can understand the hellsweep, but the hellsweep is semi unreactable for me when wavu and timing is involved, but I just can't with that d+2 and d/b+4 when combined with his d/f+4. But maybe that's just my slowa$$ reaction. For me the reactable range is at 25f (I was barely able to react to Noctis d/b+2 back in T7 lmao. I could react to it without lag tho)
After doing level one for a bit today and using a move that jumps lows, Azucena B3+4, I set the interval to "shuffle." Then, while I was sort of lost in thought but not really, I reacted to a much smaller gap in between each rep. I actually surprised myself; didn't know it worked that quickly.
One thing that would help with punishment is making sure to block after the recording. That way you don't have to have the oversized info block on the screen and you can focus on the animations.
Jin players finally starting to not feel insane for our LLRK takes. It's almost like there's a reason why almost no top player used a LAUNCHING low into 52 damage during T7. But tbh now it's more debatable since ff4 has a similar shoulder animation to cd4
I'm trying to do level one, and for the most part I'm successful in block both Bryan's mid and low. But online I'm still getting beat up by lows. Any tips on applying this training to real life matches?
Kinda offtopic but i rly have no idea where to ask. I'm playin mkxl jason and he has commandgrab dbf2 ,you can do it after almost anything,so there is an attack b3. Input gonna look (b3,dbf2) but its unreal for me so i found a way and my input looks( db3f2) this way grab goes immidiatly after b3.But there also very fast and big reach attack b1 and i ve seen ppl somehow buffering command grab after it. I tried same way pressing d 1st but thats doesnt work. Would be much appreciated if some1 can help me how i must input that)
I'm a beginner, and seriously this man talking about these stuffs made me want to play Tekken 8. The only fighting game I played before was Dragon ball Tenkaichi 3 😂 Hopefully I could enjoy learning this game. Subscribed ❤
Does this help with countering the Hworang "blender"?? All they're essentially doing is mixing up high/low over and over again until they break you, chipping away at your meter and your discipline. I just get the feeling that kind of cheese requires dedicated practice time for reading Hworang's specific moveset vs generic reaction time training like this. Hope I'm wrong!
Thank you for this! I just did a training session pretty much for the first time ever. I've been stuck at Raijin for a while and got here purely based on instinct I guess? But I'm finding myself struggling a lot with defence so I ran this drill today. I did the Jin level one and got matched up with a Jin and kicked his ass hehe
Yeah, I'm NEVER going to be able to break throws like that. I'm lucky to break 1 a match, and that's when the opponent only likes to use one kind repeatedly. I absolutely CANNOT see which hand is leading and then react in time.
Y’all know how Guilty Gear Strive does combo recipes? Like anyone can make a combo and upload it, then you put in a code to try it yourself? It would be awesome if Tekken 8 could do something like that with the defense training. Like have all the Dragunov options here set up, then save it to the server and anyone could download it as like “Dragunov practice”. And the best drills against every character’s cheese could be voted to the top so you just select it and all the moves are set up for you already by the person who created it. Tell me that would not be THE way to level up the player base.
I just need to clean up my offense. I actually have the same problem IRL for martial arts, defensive too much and don't punish enough (to the point that my coach actually said it to). Funny thing, is that's how I ended up learning how to block low. I can mostly do grabs, but 1+2 gets me sometimes.
When did they change break throws? Im just looking the at movelist now and it says 1+3 and 2+4 throws can be escaped by just pressing 1 or 2. I thought it was strict to one another. What??????
So, my problem. I've been doing the law drill from Ur previous video for a while with ok results.....but as I feel pretty comfortable against law now I still feel not so good against other chars. Might useful to do this for every char? Or at least the most common?
Right now I'm stuck in Level 2. I find it reaaaaaally hard to react consistently (10 times in a row correctly with random intervals) even to 1 vs 2 throws. And even harder to react to 1 vs 1+2 OR 2 vs 1+2.
Thanks for this awesome routine PhiDx. Can you also make a video on Lili guide, since you have been playing her for quite a while, and I wanted to know about her, how to play her. Pretty pls man.
Personally I'd recommend doing this drill with Feng or something, not Bryan. Bryan's is super easy to react to because he ONLY dips his head to go low. Try running this drill with Feng where for half the animation it still looks like a standing move
I play as jin and i spam 5 of these moves. Sometimes i mix delayed cd4 with cd3. Now i’m gonna be stuck for a while on my current rank thanks to this vid. Hahaha
Yo I’ve been watching your videos for a while now but I just had a question. How long does getting “good” at the game take? Like I’ve been playing for 7 days and I have a lot of hours on the game but I feel like I haven’t gotten any better even though people keep telling me I gotten better. (This is my first fighting game and idk what the timeline for getting good in this game is)
I am not sure about the Drag DB3 -> 1+2, but his other fake low into grab you can do low parry input into a launcher. If you have the timing right, you will get a parry if its a low, and you will launch him if its the grab. Not optimal because you can punish much harder after a grab but it is easier to do.
I've been grinding the law drill for almost a week now, and I've been wondering to myself. Is there an analog for other characters? And it appears so. Although I think I'm looking at this the wrong way, lots more to chew on, but all of this has been fantastic. Thank you phi
I dont recall if it was brought up. But for people on level 3. Dont cheat using generic grabs. Yes you can still see the hands and know if you pressed the wrong button and it still broke the grab, but idk if dragonuv has grabs for specific 1 and 2 breaks.
Bro, your videos are simply amazing! Please record a video focused in drills setups with other characters, it would be one of most important video for players evolution!!!!
Looking at the whole character rather than just arms and torso of the opponent is actually goated. I always find myself tunnelvisioning the arms in practice sth that just is not practical. thx phi
Man can't they make it so you can save your drills and just load them. I would do a lot more of them if I didn't have to set it up every single time. They are really good though. 88 defense at Mighty Ruler, is that cracked or what?
Already ganryu, hoping to be purple by the end of next week with a bit of grinding, feel the skill gap defensively against purples but think I can overcome them as already able to take rounds off them. Steve main

Fantastic video - super grateful to Phi sharing this w/ us for free
You're super friendly sounding and that's why I subscribed ☺
Thank you. As a Tekken fan, this video is really valuable!
Finna hit the lab and do this for an entire day.
I genuinely feel like PHIDX loves to beat up Reina in these thumbnails.
The content and learning tools and knowledge we are blessed with is one of the biggest parts of why this is the golden age of fighting games🎉❤
Great stuff as always
This Is exactly wad I struggle with
Tekken should feature community drills that can be copied, pasted, and played without having to set up each time, as well as some message from the drill's owner.
Yea something similar to Rocket Leagues practice options would be great in tekken.
Nah man, that Dragunov unbreakable throw from snake edge is foul, lol

isn't it more clever to parry dragunovs snake edge isntead of sort of fuzzy duck?

Or do any jumping attack if your character doesn't have generic delayed hopkick or a usual one, I think there was like a couple of these in t7, not sure about t8. It is much easier and gives just as much of a reward with a launch punish. Pls pin so that people can see.
"Ah yes, a new drill. Finally I can improve my game!"
*proceeeds to do it once and then never again
Story of my life
Drill finna get you so cracked, you won't make it through customs
I want to point out something you've taught before, but I feel scared to do so, that your muscle memory gets better so to speak during the recovery (when you take a break, when you sleep, when you go out and touch grass after these training drills). That's all
Tekken must have a mode where people can name and upload their drills to download with a notepad description. Make it like based, and the "hard to pickup, hard to master" is immediately is a "doable to pickup, hard to master" "
easy to pickup, hard to master" would be perfect game design
Sick idea
Been suggesting this in my Tekken group for years.
they wont do it. for some reason they want to make it as time consuming as possible to get good
@@shitshow575 it takes like one minute to record 4 or 5 moves
easy to pickup, hard to master is Smash.
Level 3 taught me something new. I didn't realize the crouch throw/snake edge mix up drag has can be beaten by that fuzzy duck. Good stuff, nice vid
Or a hopkick.I usually do that
Hop kick destroys it,easy and free launch
if you're hot into your kbd you can kbd it if you're fast enough

I have steroid cheat for reacting to these.
You wear a VR headset and use UEVR to play the game in VR instead.
You will be surprised at how your vision are enhanced once you are literally in the game.
Thing that are hard to react become easier to react since they are life sized.
Of course it doesn't help in tournament but it's fun.
OH MY GOD....My martial trainer uses the same phrase....slow is smooth, smooth is fast.....not a big fan of too slow but i suppose its a good advise
For Level 3
when every I see Dragunov db3 I just duck and spam ws launcher.
If Drag do db3 then I get a launch.
If Drag do db3, 1+2 I still get a launch! because I'm already doing launcher before Drag grab me XD
Love you PhiDX from Thailand
For me, level 5 or level one million is half of Xiaoyu's move list😆. Especially her heat - hypnotist mix-up and the snake edge. I don't know what's wrong with her snake edge, but I'm never able to react to it. Her hypnotist 2 and 3 have literally the same start up animation. Who the hell came up with this👺👺?

Hi, I like this drill. It helps me calm. I always jump into rank match without any practice, and I’m scrub. Now I will spend some time in practice mode. I appreciate this video.
DAMN phidx has A HUGE typing speed
even tho im alrdy gold im still going to start at Lvl1
i think playing guilty gear before made breaking throws frustrating in tekken as you dont really need to tech in any gg game as the window is only 10 frames and the risk reward is worse than jumping/backdashing/mashing in some cases, as well as not needing to input the correct button to break it. Something thats interesting is that in GG 18 frames is considered reactable, whereas in tekken you said 25 frames. I wonder why that is
holy fuck the grab section is hard as hell
Calm down buddy!
I previously do Dragunov throw break (with about 50% success) -> SK Law drill from previous VDO (about 30% success). Seem I will focus more on enhance Dragunov drill for now (since I hate Dragunov much more xD)
Also will there be drill with side step involve ? I mostly play Tekken as 2D fighter now with very few exception with I do AoP / Back turn stance because it include sidestep in it.
Bloody hell. Prof phidx on a roll here. Thabks for helping us noobs with drill recommendations 😅
Something to add on to this video;
For Dragonuv Hell Sweep:
Learn to enter your While Standing launch (mash it actually) just before the HS is about to connect.
You'll block the HS and launch, and you'll launch the grab attempt, and the cancel.
(2) If you don't want the information cluster around your player side but you still want to see if you punished or not:
Start on P2 with Side Switch On😂.
PhiDX you should earn 10k subs just for this upload.
I have a question, it's it possible to make a lvl 3~4 drill like this for every character?
Try running this drill with Feng where for half the animation it still looks like a standing move
extremely helpful in offline matches. lv3 is already almost impossible online with wifi players exceeding 100ms ping and 3 delay/rollback frames
I think if you input your WS punish at the exact time you would block Dragunov's d/b+3 you can never get hit by the throw.
I've been playing since Tekken 1. Your guides have helped me break out of old bad habits, and improve my gameplay.
For dragunov's snake edge mix-up, just do you WS Launcher in lieu of just fuzzy ducking. 7:43
Add Jin's F+4 in level 5 because F+4's animation looks like Jin's DB+4. I also want to ask if its better to set action interval to short or shuffle?
Bro, your videos are simply amazing! Please record a video focused in drills setups with other characters, it would be one of most important video for players evolution!!!!
Looking at the whole character rather than just arms and torso of the opponent is actually goated. I always find myself tunnelvisioning the arms in practice sth that just is not practical.
thx phi
Man can't they make it so you can save your drills and just load them. I would do a lot more of them if I didn't have to set it up every single time. They are really good though.
88 defense at Mighty Ruler, is that cracked or what?
Hi PhiDX absolutely love your stuff I know you’ve got a lot of content on RUclips but how would someone go about getting coaching from you 💪🏿💪🏿
Already ganryu, hoping to be purple by the end of next week with a bit of grinding, feel the skill gap defensively against purples but think I can overcome them as already able to take rounds off them. Steve main
Instructions unclear. Opponent use "Plug" but i didn't know how to react to that move. 0/10 video.
