    Backdash, Sidestep, Neutral/Spacing - These are the three main components to moving around in TEKKEN. But what does it mean do do these three things? This video features not that much ranked gameplay but a lot more time in practice mode showing off a brief overview of these things and how to do them at a basic level. Hope this helps! Oh yeah.. and don't forget to block!

    I'm procrastinating going to sleep so uh....
    0:30 block when opp gets close
    2:40 bootleg backdash
    3:05 incorporating this into ss, f
    3:36 kbd rundown (start w 2)
    19:32 Why start with 2 kbds?
    5:14 troubleshooting the kbd
    5:45 Sidestepping/walking
    7:45 When to SS (block after you SS)
    9:07 Example of when to SS & block
    10:16 using bd vs ss
    11:05 "Running around" getting used to movement
    12:13 gameplan when moving around (punisher)
    13:06 fuckn relax when moving (be efficient, dont tense up muscles)
    15:03 safely approaching opp when far back (dash blocking/guarding)
    - opp could use panic button/keepout, punish this
    16:26 Example w dealing with opp going back
    17:13 Getting "clipped" (because you're not dashguarding)
    17:53 Punishing after block during dashguarding
    18:19 TLDR
    21:06 Applying it to a match and having spatial awareness of the stage you're in

      Literally just pick a character you like and find a basic combo or 2: I got Assailant with Jun in a few hours pretty much entirely with a 10f and 15f punish and an occasional uf4,3 as a hopkick. I literally don't know anything about any opponent's character, and even in the mirror I still don't know anything because I don't actively use half my moves but that really doesn't matter since no one else(who's actually around my level and not a veteran who's still climbing) knows what's happening either

    • @BeAsTMoDE528
      @BeAsTMoDE528 5 месяцев назад

      Yes, it’s a lot of matchup knowledge. Mids are the scariest moves and your moves are limited for a bit when crouching/coming from crouch, so your options and their options are important. But some characters like Eddie or xiaoyu or lili notoriously have a lot of low moves that will mess you up if you don’t respect it, whereas characters like Jack can end the match on one strong mid, so you just have to learn the other guys options and what you can react to. Paul phoenix has one strong low that’s unreactable and a million super punishing mids though, so you just have to learn how to play each character.
      For example, Kazuya has hellsweep which is unreactable and electric which is unreactable but has mids that stuff crouching opponents leading to another 50/50, so I’d crouch when in range of either and try to react/predict the mid, if you block the low or duck the high you get a free launch and if you mess up you get knocked down.
      It’s easier said than done though, a lot of mind games, and learning the telegraphed movement for each attack, but generally blocking a low is more rewarding for you but getting hit by a mid is more rewarding for the aggressor.

    • @EvertheWise
      @EvertheWise 5 месяцев назад +8

      Hi! I am a tekken player from Tekken 5DR. This is a great question!
      Sidestep is not always used to evade,but to limit some choices to your opponents.
      For example kazuya EWGF will get you on the right, not to his left.
      If you keep getting tag by that move you move to the left a bit.
      The opponent understand now you sidestepping to his left he knows he will whiff. Now he is using kazuya sweep.
      You now forced your opponent to use even more insafe moves.
      Sidestep is use mostly to control the choices of your opponent.

    I think it’s important to mention that Tekken has an auto block system for high and mid attacks. If you don’t press anything, the game will auto block moves. You don’t have to hold back. This makes input and punish timing a lot easier. It doesn’t work on low attacks ofc.

    • @assassinonprozac
      @assassinonprozac 5 месяцев назад +2

      Keep in mind that holding back and neutral block are not the same. Neutral block usually has less pushback, can’t block most strings, (and there are some moves it just can’t block at all) and as far as I’m aware actually takes longer to start blocking than holding back. 99.9% of the time you want to hold back.

      @veeno-_x6881 I play on pad, and I actually agree with you. To some people, it's natural maybe because they have bigger hands, but for most, I think it's not.
      I actually came up with my own way to hold the controller because of this. If you know what claw grip is, it's basically that, but using the other hand, so you could call it reverse claw grip. This is taking your left hand and using your pointer and middle finger for the inputs. It'll feel unnatural at first, but about a week or two, you won't go back, and it'll feel so much more comfortable even with mishimas. I main jin, so I know. And you can kbd and electric on both sides no problem. Wavedashing is not easy tho :p
