This is only true for the type of players who doesn't take this game seriously and just play offline with his friends also have no dea how to play it. Online players actually do care to block. But there is another flip to that coin. Lots of scrubs just hold back and throw some unsafe shit randomly which sometimes drags tham quite far especially if they're using characters bullshit moves etc.
Top mistake for beginners is to play this game. Tekken community is treating beginners horribly, it doesn't matter if that guy is new to Tekken or he's pro of Tekken, every single Tekken veteran must try hard for whatever reason. I understand if it's ranked match or tournament but ffs can you chill in normal matches and quick matches not everyone is good as you???
The reason Tekken is my favourite fighting game franchise is because there is so much to learn...but no hurry or pressure to learn it all at once. Each nugget you pick up gets you a little further along the way. Its kind of like learning music.
grinding up combo is also important though, I did get a lot of opening but my attack usually only deal meager dmg cuz my combo end mid way a lot 😡 train both!
you need fundamentals. learn that and then your characters normals. jmcroft laid it out. just learn normals and see what's the optimal normals to use. if you want to take it a step further, study frame rates and see which are good and bad on block. once you get your fundamentals...use online as a way of practicing your execution. its easy to fancy combos on a still target...but now you actually have to set up a live opponent. wins ans losses and shouldn't matter right now....they will come with more time.
You did one of the important parts, the good thing about grinding the combos, is that you can do them on the fly, but you have to have entries, I recommend making them, finding out which abilities are the quickest and the most effective to send your opponent flying, that is when I tend to attempt my 10 combo's when they are completely defenceless. Having knowledge of every character, as in knowing a few combos and their rage art is important because this benefits your timing, timing is key in this franchise, knowing when to block and when to strike, it all adds up.
Give yourself 20 minutes and you will get it in your fingers, timing is key, so watch carefully when the buttons are being pressed and what is happening.
Me also! But one thing that this video does not take into account is: The 10 hit combos are great at the lower levels. I am Mentor level only, and other Mentors and below often get punished by 10-hit combos.
LOL Snakey, I laughed because of your message, you made me smile. I agree with you :) I am now a Brawler because of the 10 hit combo of Josie Rizal!! It often works when your opponent is a "blue" ranked opponent (Grand Master or less). Particularly if you don't keep spamming it, but limit yourself to 1 or 2 attempts per match to mix things up! I'm a big fan :)
I am glad that I only do one of these every once in a while. Random rage arts. I''d rather set it up with a combo, but sometimes I straight up panic hit it.
Yeah, but honestly I wish it worked differently. Rage arts scales down so hard in combo's its not even worth using. The fact that it has armor to consume a hit makes it kinda strong to be honest. Especially, because certain people have rage arts that are pretty much unpunishable on block like hwaorang.
I don't know about the others, but Jin's is safe on block, but of course it's a high so you can just duck it. Hwo's have to be done from flamingo meaning it would be difficult to use it defensively, so I guess it's a trade-off.
I had Tekken 2 and 3 as a kid and was obsessed with them, I learned all the moves back then that still exist in Tekken 7, this has allowed me to pick up Tekken 7 and do quite well online because the core of those early games is still there, I never forgot how to play.
7. Holding down back. Mid hits down. Lows are chip 6. No sidestep or sidewalking. 2d vs 3d movement 5. Panicking on wakeup 4. Random rage art. Learn hit confirm combo. Rage drive better random 3. 2many 10hit combo. Not actual combos? Not true strings! Wtf 2. Low parry every low. 1. Oh using practice mode for combos Use dummy to record, learn to punish, interrupt, etc
the other way around for me, I'm defending a lot on early level, but on higher level play I'm too used to be passive and bait a lot that I'm awkward at attacking still got a lot to learn
getting counter hit for not understanding different characters speed and reach. Took a while to realize that closing against Panda is going to give like half an arm for Panda to hit you with before you can punch back. Or like how Nina is faster than Law for a lot of moves. Or how the female characters are slightly less susceptible to high attacks and grabs.
TekkenPT YES YES that's exactly my problem for some reason they seem to have faster pokes which then frustrates the shit out of me I literally lost to too many people because of that and then they gain momentum and I get destroyed it's honestly kind of pissing me off
+TekkenPT Very true and why being counter hit to hell sucks. That's why I try to learn the basic three moves as quick as possible: Quick moves, medium speed moves and heavy slow moves. quick moves are usually counter hit. medium may counter hit and may deal more damage. heavy slow moves do the most damage but can be counter hitted by most quick and some medium speed and power moves.
Another thing to note is that when you get up from the ground, your character is considered transitioning from a crouching stance. That means, for a brief period, you can't sidestep or backdash and your attacks will be affected by "while rising" stance. However you'll still be able to block. Took me a loooong while before i understood that.
No worries there, keep up the good work, the trick on getting good at Tekken is the right timing of attacks, using fast and quick counter attacks, right footwork and character movements, more importantly how to execute all these moves properly..
A bad mistake I make is playing offline too much. I play against CPUS all the time, and when I think I'm ready to go online walked all over. I play more like a CPU than a human online, which is very sad lol. I highly recommend not just spending your time playing bots. Go online a ton, or play with friends. There's only so much an Ultra Hard CPU can do that knows your every move before you do it lol.
Legion NB Yeah it's good advice to practice online to see how other players juggle their insane half-health-bar combos with their mains since CPUs never really do that. I've been playing Tekken since T3 when I was like 3-4yo with character move lists only slightly changed since but I still get get annihilated by people online managing to juggle half your health off with one simple slip up.
no, you attack and the bot get hit... cpu in tekken is child level even on ultra hard (except for the akuma fight in story mode that's obviously unfair)
CPU always play the same and react almost the same because its just all programmed to do that, funny fact though, regardless WHAT difficulty it is, if you try a delayed 4 hopkick, it'll ALWAYS hit, i dont know what it is, but the programmed CPU can't block a delayed hopkick
While online may be more difficult, the frames are always subject to some error due to lag. That's why I mostly practice offline. This game is all about frames and punishment. If you don't have consistent negative and positive frames, you really have nothing but luck with this game. Online is neat, but its not the real Tekken experience. The best players in the world always play this game offline.
Great suggestions. I would only add about grab breaking, regular grabs can be broken with single punch button, and command grabs with both punch buttons. New thing for T7
@@dollarstoremuffins button mashers dont block. so idk where your dumb opinion comes from cause its wrong. mash any button while youre supposed to block and you get a counter hit. spam moves and anyone with half a brain will block and punish the negative moves. if you get wrecked by a masher that means youre just as garbage at the game cause you have no fundamentals and dont block and punish
That's what I'm annoyed at dude, My brother says that he is better but he just gets comebacks because of the freaking use of Rage Art "EVERYTIME", and everytime I fight him, he uses rage art and I *BLOCK* All the time, like what in the hell
@@adaplay13 i only knows Jin's b+1+3 and b+2+4 that can parry RA. but only effective on RA that does mid or high on first hit. and also requires precise timing
Love it! A few more of fundamentals videos please! Because I feel there are lots of players (like myself) who just got back into T7 after 10+years, and have absolutely zero knowledge of the fundamentals.
Ive been playing tekken games for a while now, but this made me remember the mistakes I made when I first started out. Thanks for this. Im pretty sure its gonna help a lot of people, especially because tekken 7 has been getting a lot of attention and is attracting new players.
The last point hit me the most. Thank you. As a Nina player, I suck at low blocks, blocking in general, I panic and trying to attack a lot, expecting to be faster than the opponent, yet all characters seem to be faster than her. And as we czechs say - hard time on a training field, easy time on a battlefield.
As someone who just got to juggernaut online, these are very valid points! Another big mistakes people make are being too repetitive when health is low. When health is low, we often see the same situations all the time, and usually the lower level players do the same stuff when either their health, their opponent's health, or both are low. You create new situations with movement and a different pattern of attacks. If you get too repetitive, you are going to eat a whiff punisher from an opponent who is paying attention to how you play at the end of each round!
Elliott Z imma be honest i start pulling out mi items and stab or shoot the fuckers when I'm panicking don't do that it's cheap not as cheap as spamming lows or orbitals the entire time tho
Honestly spamming lows or orbitals is not too hard to deal with. If you get beat by spam, unless there is lag, it's on you. Gotta learn how to handle orbitals. The best way to shut down people who use that move a lot is to forward dash in, and then back dash, wait for orbital and whiff punish them. This takes practice to get the spacing and timing down, but it's too hard to deal with. Blocking and low parrying lows comes from paying attention to when your opponent uses them. Also using items is not cheap, it's only a little bit annoying, but they can usually be sidestepped easily. No high ranked player, or really anyone 10th dan or better uses items. If you want to win at tekken, you gotta learn the game well, practice, and not use gimmicks or nonsense. Also I am Vanquisher now, almost about to get promoted to Destroyer ;)
Great tips! I had to overcome most of this in my first 10-or-so hours with Tekken 7, my first Tekken game. I'm just now settling into a more defined practice routine. I'll spend a little time against a dummy working on movement and practicing a few combos, and then spending the rest of my time in Treasure Battle. Movement is so hard! I've never been any good with a stick...
While I've played Tekken in some form since #2 on the PSX, I try to learn what I can regardless since there's always something to learn, or get better with. Plus I woun't lie that I'm not a very good player anyway. I have some bad habits I've been working to break out of, and I figured at the least, I could give this video a watch and see what's what. I'll admit I did learn a few things, I'll admit that two issues you've brought up, I'm still addressing. My biggest issue is how...thanks to playing against the AI, I have more of an 'Attack, attack, attack!' mentality, and I've been pushing myself to balance that out with being defensive, evasive, and also trying to be patient on one end, but not give my opponent a chance to bring a match into their favor. One point I would have added, even if it was obvious, that it can pay to not just learn all you can about a character the player would use, but also trying to learn how to deal with their opponents as well. That's my two cents for what it's worth.
I'm a long time Street fighter player who just wanted to see what is this T7 fuss about and this was quite informative, especially that crouch-block/stand-block thing.
I don't know what else I was expecting XD nice list :) I dealt with so many 10 Hits spammer it was so easy to beat... I see much less of them while grinding up the ranks. Same happened when I played Tekken Revolution, Noobs spammed the "Red move" all the time, then higher up, players used it very strategically.
Number #1 should've probably been to defend and punish, but overall a very good list! So many new players just try to outrace their opponent to the finish line with spamming buttons instead of blocking and punishing accordingly. My friend gets mad at me when I play Alisa or Eliza (the only characters that I actually know some moves for) and he ends up losing 95% of the time on his Hwoarang spamming mix ups.
As a Tekken 7 beginner, these points are exactly the mistakes i make now that i think of it, especially the panic when i'm in a combo lol. Thanks for the tips man! :)
What people should try doing is just going through all of the move set. It sounds ridiculous, but you can find some things that are REALLY helpful that aren't in the sample combos, like Jin's crouch-dash 4 into 3+4, cause it's saved me plenty of times.
I like doing this too, and picking out the damaging cool looking moves... who cares if it makes me minus 60 frames, it looks cool, and if you get slapped by it it'll look even cooler lol.
Tekken 7 wouldn't be so difficult to learn if the developer had of taken the time to actually explain the game mechanics and placing helpful tip in between loading screens was SUPER stupid.
JDauntless The Protagonist Gamer just watch videos. unlike you I go into training then bot matches increasing in difficulty till I master something and other things as well
I should have kept tabs with the tekken series since tekken 3. I love jin kazama and can't see myself playing any other character and did really well. Now Im clueless lol..
Gokay CEKLI Asuka is a lot closer to Jun from T2 but point taken because ~40% of T3 Jin moves were lifted straight from Jun. devil Jin is closest to T3 as has been mentioned above
theaudiocrat dunno jin is pretty bad since he turned his fighting style to classic karate after t3 imho. I used his hp + lk combo starter a lot thats maybe why i prefer asuka over devil jin.
bruh i havent played in years. started playing 7 recently and it feels new to me lol. its really a science to it now. playing tekken feel like playing chess lmao
Almost all fighting games, at high levels, feel like chess. Taking turns to break down each other's defences, coming up with a strategy while simultaneously reacting to your opponent's, etc....
I could easily extend this list. 8.) Starting out the match with unsafe launchers instead of pokes. 9.) Not knowing what a 1 and 2 break is, and being thrown because of it. 10.) Relying way too much on gimmicky defensive tricks like reversals. 11.) Not using crush moves to punish annoying lows. 12.) Charging at the opponent when you`re backs against the wall instead of using smart keep out moves/zoning. 13.) Not utilizing stances into mix ups. Not using the back turned down back trick to bait out opponents and make them wiff. So many things could be said here.
I'm happy you made this video. It's exactly what I been telling my friends, who are confused why they get destroyed. I hope they will understand this after watching it.
hey can you please make a tutorial on how to use training mode properly? I can't figure everything out and how to record things and Replay then like I want. a concise training guide would be perfect! thanks
jmcrofts yea I was trying to make the claudio do uf4 in training to test how to punish it but I couldnt figure out how to make him always block right after that move.
one day I played on a video game center and the practice mode was different Couldn´t put the movelist inputs on the screen while i was training to do each move . That option is gr8 and classic. Other Day I could. was weird, i was lost :D
Thx for this video, it help me to understand some mistake i make like the most common in me the panic attack wake up. When you dunno the option and ur opponent rush at you to not let you a time to react. In 2d fighting games like street fighter or mortal kombat it's more easy for me cause i know what to do to punish common attack that my opponent make.
In SF and MK the oki game is less complex as it only involves vortex (mostly MK) and cross ups. Then there is the invincible wake-ups and the wake-up baiting, which all happens after a hard knockdown. Plus you're invincible while lying on the ground. In Tekken they can literally kick you while you're down.
MeowAlien にゃあエイリアン Actually low kick when they're down isn't risky. It's basically free dmg. They can always get up straight and low block it if they suspect it though, but most people try to roll away. The risky stuff is attempting an otg and whiffing.
btw Steve, Lee, Law, Bryan, Hworang, Jin and Nina are best lol and not to forget Kazuya and Heichachi and its a shame we dont have Baek and Bruce anymore
Thanks man! I havent play a Tekken game since the 3 but now before playing im learning all the littles things i need to know to be a better player and having fun mastering my caracter
Thanks for letting the info out, I was doing the number 1 mistake and I realized now that the combo's doesn't matter if the enemy has no opening and I need to practice my combo on a live match or in the story mode, thanks so much 👍
thanks for the informative vid! now im practicing Jin (i either main Paul or Law) and im taking the time to master all individual moves instead of going straight into the launcher combos
The #1 is so important. You can definitely tell the people who spent a lot of time in practice solely learning the juggles and like 3 combos so they'll spend the entire match circling between those in order to win.
AwESoMeLY kEwL no not really, do a jump neutral down 3. It can confuse your enemies that aren't prepared for that. But it's still hard and risky to use that move, especially when your opponent is great at adapting to different situations
Even in 2019 this vid is still perfect. Im lucky I come from soul cal as a couple of these points are required to do well in that game. Tekken is something i recently got into and I took some stuff away from this vid. So thanks!
All of these are really helpful. I'm a first time Tekken player and I eventually started to figure most of this stuff out after getting bodied online so much. Still get bodied, but I at least am performing better overall now that I'm trying to discipline myself to not fall into these habits. I really have to take #1 to heart though for sure.
I have been playing Tekken since the beginning, and you're spot on with everything. I am very guilty of panicking when I am knocked down and want to get back up as soon as possible. As Tekken has progressed over the years it's very easy to hit people out of forward and backward rolls if you're trying to get up fast. At times it is best to wait it out. I also recommend practice mode for beginners but don't let the dummy just stand there, it has to fight back so you can learn to pull off your combos in every situation. Your opponent isn't going to stand there and let them hit you.
Hah! It's like you were watching me play this game for the first time, right down to going into practice mode to learn a complicated combo. Great video, I still suck though.
Ive played tekken ever since im a little tyke and pixelated ass quality; now im a mother i still play it and yes, i can validate this correct, if youre a rookie or doesnt know the character well; NEVER risk using these moves thats like giving an opportunity for your opponent especially you dont have any idea what move you need to do afterwards. Sincerely a Tekken God Dragunov user.
@@hidof9598 Oh, most definitely. He's got some of the most technical moves in the game, and so it's really satisfying to pull them off. I also love how he evolves from game to game visually. Though I wish they'd bring back his Samurai armor from 4. Shoot, in the age of character customization and DLC, every character should be able to look like any of their previous incarnations.
A mistake I see a lot is a player spamming an unsafe move after it worked once, even after punishing it multiple times. I see it a lot with grabs especially.
You forgot one: Going into online, getting beaten by someone who keeps using the same move all over again, and goes to the forums to complain "OP BULLSHIT CHARACTER" instead of going to practice mode and practice dealing against the move. Lol, anyway this is very helpful. Sometimes I forget this is a 3D game. Sidestepping is really helpful when you have a sliver of health left and the only options your opponent likes to do are simple but very linear d+4s and df+1s.
Ryan Larivee that's where the mind games start, the no mixup mixup , if I can see that u can't block low , why would I change and try to mix? I will do the low until I condition u to block then mix
I don't have a problem blocking low. I expect if two lows come in i know that you want SDF+2 for juggle so I continue to stand block for that. But then you have trash players that 90% of their shit is low. I only take low spam once and always crush noobs that think they can win with that mentality. Its still annoying I have to play shit with people not willing to learn how to do any of the moves except pop ups and low spam.
I may not be incredibly experienced but I definitely get where Ryan is coming from. Most people I have played online mostly low spam and I don't play online often. Seeing people pull off the same combinations makes me ready for them. Tekken is more about learning a couple of combos and sticking with that, you have to surprise your opponent or you're never going to improve.
I'm pretty serious when it comes to fighting games. I like to try and use ever available combination and moves to make my opponent feel like they have no idea whats coming next. Trying to use moves in new and interesting ways or cancels to throw the opponent off guard. But with all that work gets stuffed by low spinny kicks. If that's all your going to do, then this match is basically pointless. That person has taken the fun out of it not only for me but for themselves. Ultimately making Tekken a shittier game. There is NO SUCH THING as a no mix-up, mix-up. This is a phrase made up to make babies feel like they are using strategy when they are not its called spam pressing buttons. A mix-up means your going high, low, mid in any order or combination except there needs to be at least one attempted variation. Thats like me throwing St.+1 20 times in a row and saying OHHH, you got rekt newb with my no mix-up mix-up, your not mixing anything up your button mashing like my four year old son. GET GUD!
That's dope. I'm kind of a straight forward fighter and making use of the 8 way movement system hasn't always worked out for me. However, I know that it would be very beneficial for me in my matches. So, thanks to this vid, you have a new subscriber, much appreciated on the insight.
My first tekken, and though I didnt find this info useful now, its all stuff ive learned by playing other good players online. Very informative dude ^-^
brilliant video. I have been playing tekken for almost 15 years but never very frequently. but I have recently started to play and learn the game and I think all the points you've mentioned are very valid and I will have to work on these mistake to make myself a better tekken player.
Because in reality Tekken player don't use the 60% of the movements Just memorize and practice a few. And it's not a joke, even professional players don't use the 50% of movements. Is more difficult to play if you have a long list of options, you will be lost and is easier to confuse you. So choose the best movements, with different hitbox, diferentes highs lows middles, different distance, ranges, frames...
Low parry scaling your damage is something I never would have known. Does it say that it does that somewhere in game? Are There other moves like that in the game (that scale damage up or down)?
No, I think it scales like a normal combo, but due to the position of your opponent after the low parry, you can‘t get a long and damaging combo with most characters. My Heihachi can get over 50 damage though. :) Edit: Oh, if you‘re new and meant something else: Low Parries scale like combo juggles, with every hit they do less percent wise. A combo means a guaranteed juggle, normal strings while both standing don‘t count. Also attacks again grounded opponents does only 80 % percent damage. In practice mode, if you hit your opponent, it tells you the damage on the left side and in brackets a percent number, e.g. 100% or 80%. Hope this helped someone. :)
This is actually some really good stuff! My problem in any fighter is: always missing punishes, relying on combos too much, and not using training mode properly. However, this helps give more insight as to what to work on.
LwNickV there are some moves that can be sidestepped, like the Mishima's WGF, but it's easier to either block that or duck that since it is a high. The spinning demon is also safe to sidestep, just sidestep right I think. But some characters' moves can't be sidestepped like Bryan.
The point he's making is don't hold down back expecting to tough it out. Standing block is much better for doing that. For more advanced players, you can get an instant while standing move by doing QCF/QCB + button. However, this only works if your character doesn't have a QCF/QCB move in their arsenal. For those characters, D,DF,Neutral + Button or D,DB,Neutral+ Button work as well, just a bit more difficult to do.
Shunderz Hold down back to be safe. Tekken used to have auto blocking with neutral inputs, don't remember if it works while ducking, or even standing anymore.
I agree with many of these but if we going to say what new players do as mistake and actually people still make today.... Just holding back Like for real it a fighting game both offence and defence Many players just hold back just trying to counter and that it. To me boring and so easy to defeat instead of mixing it up
Hey man, nice vid. I just picked up tekken 7 a few days ago and its my first tekken game. Its ton of fun and i want to get better at it so ive been watching like combo tutorials and stuff on youtube. I stumbled across this vid, and i see myself making the same mistakes, especially with the mid attacks beat low blocks cuz i come from 2D fighting games. Kinda wish there were more than 7 things, but ill take what i can get. Thanks again.
I've been playing since the late 90s Tekken3 and I noticed noobs only concentrate or memorize move sets of *just one character.* Usually that's the character that they like.
Red Hood hey man, im playing 90 % of the time King, because he's my favorite Charakter, and im Not Bad with him. I Know that ist good to Know all Charakters and its easier to learn by playing with the other chars, but im Not a noob, its a simple choice i make. I understand your point very good, but you are Not always a Bad Player because of this. Sorry for my Bad english, i wish you good games.
Thank you so much😊 This meant a lot for a newbie like me..😅 Because of this I remembered this embarrassing moment in the arcade🙈Where I just kept losing, and I didn't notice at the bottom right corner the enemy already has 11 wins 🙈...
worse mistake you can make overall in tekken since tekken 3 is getting captured by King in one of those endless grapple combos
Jay H seriously. King and Nina always pull that crap right before I'm about to beat them and then win.
TREVORVADER lol it's irritating
Jay H pretty sure it's possible to cancel out of his grab.
the only good time to button mash😂
Dredbot 1337 not if you don't stop it before it's too deep in the combo
Top mistake for beginners will always be not blocking at all
Nati Per Perdere lol so true, reminds me of my past self

Yeah, it can apply to any fighting game, not Tekken. Having fancy-ass combos means nothing if you have no neutral game or fundamentals.

"Don't do ten combo hits all the time"
Me: HA! I fucking wish *cries in corner*
Soroxas I can do a ten hit combo.
In my dreams.
Soroxas This really doesn't apply to Yoshimitsu because his back hand manji spins can be cancelled into sword sweep mid 10 hit.
Meme Bump that guy is an exception , one of the most abstract character, tho he is so dang hard to master
Give yourself 20 minutes and you will get it in your fingers, timing is key, so watch carefully when the buttons are being pressed and what is happening.
Lars's ten hit combo is easy to learn and its great for getting a good amount of damage esay
Not gonna lie. I'm that person trying to do the 10 hit combo right of the bat 😂😂.
Me also! But one thing that this video does not take into account is: The 10 hit combos are great at the lower levels. I am Mentor level only, and other Mentors and below often get punished by 10-hit combos.
i actually pulled off the 10 hit combo and won the round, the opponent just took the damages like a boss.
LOL Snakey, I laughed because of your message, you made me smile. I agree with you :) I am now a Brawler because of the 10 hit combo of Josie Rizal!! I'm a big fan :)
That shit ain't gon work in green ranks and above
same haha ;; but people never let me finish xD
I am glad that I only do one of these every once in a while. Random rage arts. I''d rather set it up with a combo, but sometimes I straight up panic hit it.
Duane Blommaert i like to use rage art as a counter because of its armor
Yeah, but honestly I wish it worked differently. Rage arts scales down so hard in combo's its not even worth using.
The fact that it has armor to consume a hit makes it kinda strong to be honest. Especially, because certain people have rage arts that are pretty much unpunishable on block like hwaorang.
Duane Blommaert Hwo is the ONLY one who cant be punished unless you are close to a wall. Alisa, Jin and Steve need to be ducked.
I don't know about the others, but Jin's is safe on block, but of course it's a high so you can just duck it. Hwo's have to be done from flamingo meaning it would be difficult to use it defensively, so I guess it's a trade-off.
Duane Blommaert I won't lie either...I'm the same...YOLO!
I had Tekken 2 and 3 as a kid and was obsessed with them, I learned all the moves back then that still exist in Tekken 7, this has allowed me to pick up Tekken 7 and do quite well online because the core of those early games is still there, I never forgot how to play.
Yeah same, it's funny how the hands remember.
7. Holding down back. Mid hits down. Lows are chip
6. No sidestep or sidewalking. 2d vs 3d movement
5. Panicking on wakeup
4. Random rage art. Learn hit confirm combo. Rage drive better random
3. 2many 10hit combo. Not actual combos? Not true strings! Wtf
2. Low parry every low.
1. Oh using practice mode for combos
Use dummy to record, learn to punish, interrupt, etc
Leave the match before its over - most common mistake.
actually most people don't leave the match, but get disconnected.
Paul in Tekken 3
@@epsilonoclon7371 you cant leave without dcing
Wrong! Number 1 - Getting Counter Hit to hell because you keep pressing buttoms and have no pacience to find an opening.
My worst mistake, I always go in instead of waiting for opportunities ! :(
the other way around for me, I'm defending a lot on early level, but on higher level play I'm too used to be passive and bait a lot that I'm awkward at attacking
still got a lot to learn
getting counter hit for not understanding different characters speed and reach.
#protip when using bob say meatball for extra dmg
Meatball.
True.
Ball Meat
bob the meatballl is og pewpidepie
Another thing to note is that when you get up from the ground, your character is considered transitioning from a crouching stance.
That means, for a brief period, you can't sidestep or backdash and your attacks will be affected by "while rising" stance.
However you'll still be able to block.
Took me a loooong while before i understood that.
I have no idea it's gonna be so much fun reading all through the comment section..
Eeiiaane agreed, especially since I'm new and still learning Tekken
Bots for me on ultra hard help my defense. You can win by just poking and having really good defense, and when the chance is their, go for a combo.
Going to send this to my friend so he can stop being sucha filthy casual.
SSJ Carl lol That's what I just did
SSJ Carl goddamit nappa
good old god damn it nappa
Let me guess... This Friend's Name is Raditz am I right?

Great suggestions. I would only add about grab breaking, regular grabs can be broken with single punch button, and command grabs with both punch buttons. New thing for T7
2 words: Button mashing
GCF Undefined *Place your two fingers on the buttons then press it alternately*
@Crabby Odd not since 6. Still technical as a whole, but way more friendly to beginners (and buttonmashers).
@@daxxer-x2495 honestly the newer the player is with eddy the more trouble it gives me.
@@dollarstoremuffins button mashers dont block. so idk where your dumb opinion comes from cause its wrong.
mash any button while youre supposed to block and you get a counter hit.

TITO :] correct but chill tho lol
Rage art panics ^_^
Even seen pros do it lol
Its a bad habit XD every time I do it, I instantly say to myself "Why the fuck did i do that?" LOL
That's what I'm annoyed at dude, My brother says that he is better but he just gets comebacks because of the freaking use of Rage Art "EVERYTIME", and everytime I fight him, he uses rage art and I *BLOCK* All the time, like what in the hell

It's the most annoying shit ever lol
Love it! A few more of fundamentals videos please! Because I feel there are lots of players (like myself) who just got back into T7 after 10+years, and have absolutely zero knowledge of the fundamentals.
When I'm in practice mode, I normally let the CPU play against me (on highest diff ofc), so I can see what the character can do and how to react.
Great idea
"I BLOCKED THAATTTTTT!!!!!"
That was super informative, thank you! Subscribed!
Thanks!!
I don't know what else I was expecting XD
nice list :)
I dealt with so many 10 Hits spammer it was so easy to beat... I see much less of them while grinding up the ranks.
Same happened when I played Tekken Revolution, Noobs spammed the "Red move" all the time, then higher up, players used it very strategically.
coming from sfv I am a huge offender of crouch back blocking. Thanks for the video!
I never went back to SF after Tekken came out.
So, do you main Akuma?
Down back is safer than low parry. But he said don't do it too much
he listed out all the mistake i always make in this game XD
great explain, great video! thumbs up for that
Number #1 should've probably been to defend and punish, but overall a very good list!
The moment I learned how important sidestepping was, when I fought shin akuma
SAME LMAO
lmao
Lmao but with him I low barry him and I win most of the time
As a Tekken 7 beginner, these points are exactly the mistakes i make now that i think of it, especially the panic when i'm in a combo lol. Thanks for the tips man! :)
What people should try doing is just going through all of the move set. It sounds ridiculous, but you can find some things that are REALLY helpful that aren't in the sample combos, like Jin's crouch-dash 4 into 3+4, cause it's saved me plenty of times.
Thats what i do. Some people just dont realize how useful it is.
I like doing this too, and picking out the damaging cool looking moves... who cares if it makes me minus 60 frames, it looks cool, and if you get slapped by it it'll look even cooler lol.
But why would you ever use 3,4 after a hellsweep as jin?
Even seven years later you are still educating new players. I’m going to pick up a Tekken game for the first time and it happens to be 7 on PS4
good thing im an eddy main watch yo legs boi
the oddyssey eddie is by far the easiest and overpowered character in the game. you literally just have to spam 2 buttons to win
HNK001 yea i know thats why i use lee and josie now i know how fighting eddy feels so hard to hit
Eddy is easy to block lol... the most hardest is Katerina and Lucky Cloe
My lucky Chloe will fuck you up lol

Tekken 7 wouldn't be so difficult to learn if the developer had of taken the time to actually explain the game mechanics and placing helpful tip in between loading screens was SUPER stupid.
JDauntless The Protagonist Gamer agreed, it really lack a proper tutorials, I'm new at Tekken and i learn everything online
You should stop blaming people for your incompetence.
JDauntless The Protagonist Gamer just watch videos. unlike you I go into training then bot matches increasing in difficulty till I master something and other things as well

No tutorial andits a problem. It never had a tutorial and millions of people never had a problem. Practice makes perfect not tutorials...
I should have kept tabs with the tekken series since tekken 3. I love jin kazama and can't see myself playing any other character and did really well. Now Im clueless lol..
Nigh Omni Shinra Devil Jin inherits some of T3 Jin moves tho...
I knew that, but I don't like the appearance of devil jin, i prefer the normal jin.
SnakeyXT you should play asuka she is using jins fighting style from tekken 3(mostly) i am the same.
I used his hp + lk combo starter a lot thats maybe why i prefer asuka over devil jin.
short, to the point, and every thing in it is useful. i might send other people here !
good job !
bruh i havent played in years. started playing 7 recently and it feels new to me lol. its really a science to it now. playing tekken feel like playing chess lmao
A little more intense than chess too
Almost all fighting games, at high levels, feel like chess. Taking turns to break down each other's defences, coming up with a strategy while simultaneously reacting to your opponent's, etc....
i love the love that Tekken is getting recently
This is a very valuable source of insight. Thank you for imparting these practical tips. Peace.
Me the kind of person who knows I can defeat my enemy but still trying to do a 10 hit so I can look cool
12.) Charging at the opponent when you`re backs against the wall instead of using smart
keep out moves/zoning.
13.) Not utilizing stances into mix ups. Not using the back turned down back trick to bait
out opponents and make them wiff.
So many things could be said here.
1 year late. but crush moves get beaten by lows just saying
I'm happy you made this video. It's exactly what I been telling my friends, who are confused why they get destroyed. I hope they will understand this after watching it.
hey can you please make a tutorial on how to use training mode properly? I can't figure everything out and how to record things and Replay then like I want. a concise training guide would be perfect! thanks
Great idea - I'll see what I can do
jmcrofts
yea I was trying to make the claudio do uf4 in training to test how to punish it but I couldnt figure out how to make him always block right after that move.
one day I played on a video game center and the practice mode was different Couldn´t put the movelist inputs on the screen while i was training to do each move
. That option is gr8 and classic. Other Day I could. was weird, i was lost :D
MVashM when you record the move walk backwards after uf4 for a little then stop the recording walking backwards will make them block
umaRFTW Go to Avoiding the Puddle. Great tutorials. Just type into the search box and you're good to go
Good advice.. hard to find decent tekken tips on here and you hit the spot
Living Lightning even if sometimes it's rather risky i always try to low kick when the enemy is down, it works great more often than not lol
MeowAlien にゃあエイリアン
Actually low kick when they're down isn't risky. It's basically free dmg. They can always get up straight and low block it if they suspect it though, but most people try to roll away. The risky stuff is attempting an otg and whiffing.
Me: watches the video seriously
Also me: proceeds to mash buttons on my next match
btw Steve, Lee, Law, Bryan, Hworang, Jin and Nina are best lol and not to forget Kazuya and Heichachi and its a shame we dont have Baek and Bruce anymore
Baek and Bruce were my 2 favourites in Tag 2. Its sad to see them go. I use lee for now though XD
This video was more helpful than I initially thought it would be. Thanks a ton man..
One of the most dangerous characters (, Kazumi) wearing casual clothes, pure gold lmao.
Who needs sidewalking when u have Steve fox🗿
it was mindblowing to me that overheads/lows are pretty much flipped in terms of damage in tekken, instead of SF

Thanks for letting the info out, I was doing the number 1 mistake and I realized now that the combo's doesn't matter if the enemy has no opening and I need to practice my combo on a live match or in the story mode, thanks so much 👍

thanks for the informative vid! now im practicing Jin (i either main Paul or Law) and im taking the time to master all individual moves instead of going straight into the launcher combos
as a new player, I can confirm that all of these are true
like damn lol
The #1 is so important. You can definitely tell the people who spent a lot of time in practice solely learning the juggles and like 3 combos so they'll spend the entire match circling between those in order to win.
biggest noob mistake is.. using jumps. lol
AwESoMeLY kEwL no not really, do a jump neutral down 3. It can confuse your enemies that aren't prepared for that. But it's still hard and risky to use that move, especially when your opponent is great at adapting to different situations
Sometimes it’s nice to do a jumping neutral 1. Especially on an enemy that just whiffed a low or mid
Hopkick ftw
Unless you play a 2d character like akuma
No dude, jumping as Akuma is SUPER usefull
Even in 2019 this vid is still perfect. Im lucky I come from soul cal as a couple of these points are required to do well in that game. Tekken is something i recently got into and I took some stuff away from this vid. So thanks!
10 hit combo lmao , yes i did try them and they are no use when playing with real players or hard difficulty cpu
Number 1: Getting Death Fisted by Paul as a counterattack (while Rage mode is active).
Not a hardcore Tekken fan or player but just gets satisfied by watching tekken videos. 👍🏻

As a 20 year vet, I agree with this video.
Sherman Webster halp my puppy's sick
As a 30 year vet, I agree with this video.
The franchise is 22 years old.
I played Tekken 1 in the arcades and it blew my mind with how amazing the graphics were. So realistic... I'm not kidding.
RealStealthyNinja I felt the same way about 2.
A mistake I see a lot is a player spamming an unsafe move after it worked once, even after punishing it multiple times. I see it a lot with grabs especially.
the rage art is cool but, there are times I accidentally use it. seeing as I'm not use to it
You forgot one:
Going into online, getting beaten by someone who keeps using the same move all over again, and goes to the forums to complain "OP BULLSHIT CHARACTER" instead of going to practice mode and practice dealing against the move.
Well, in the uploader's view, I suppose and he didn't see it...
Mistake #1 getting into the game in the first place
My first tekken, and though I didnt find this info useful now, its all stuff ive learned by playing other good players online. Very informative dude ^-^
Yeah I am guilty of 6 and 7 mostly because I am a 2d fighter player primarily so I am not used to them and muscle memory for down back.
brilliant video. I have been playing tekken for almost 15 years but never very frequently. but I have recently started to play and learn the game and I think all the points you've mentioned are very valid and I will have to work on these mistake to make myself a better tekken player.
10 hit combos are meant to ridicule your opponent for playing badly. Same with really slow nonblockables
Amazing! This video pretty much summarises the way I play Tekken 7. Now I know why I can only beat the 1 star CPU - -.
Jin is beautiful.
Yoshimitsu is godlike
Josie is adorable
Kazumi is best
katarina is hot
Bob is da best lol
This was rather informative! I am guilty of some of these mistakes! This will go a long way in helping me improve! Thank you so much!
Well,my mistake as newbie is i never want to remember all the moveset that my char had..so yeah,😝
Because in reality Tekken player don't use the 60% of the movements
Just memorize and practice a few. And it's not a joke, even professional players don't use the 50% of movements. Is more difficult to play if you have a long list of options, you will be lost and is easier to confuse you. So choose the best movements, with different hitbox, diferentes highs lows middles, different distance, ranges, frames...
The real and only purpose of Rage Arts is to end a match with style.
You're right Bro!
Edit: Oh, if you‘re new and meant something else: Low Parries scale like combo juggles, with every hit they do less percent wise.
The game doesn't even tell you what low parrying is, much less that it scales your combos
This is actually some really good stuff! My problem in any fighter is: always missing punishes, relying on combos too much, and not using training mode properly. However, this helps give more insight as to what to work on.
When an enemy sidesteps my jabs i whiff and i get launched.. Why i sidestep an enemy i Always get hit nomatter what.
LwNickV there are some moves that can be sidestepped, like the Mishima's WGF, but it's easier to either block that or duck that since it is a high. The spinning demon is also safe to sidestep, just sidestep right I think. But some characters' moves can't be sidestepped like Bryan.
Have you ever thought that some moves can hit/track sidestepping opponents and others can't?
Great work on the video, really good editing with the narration and footage in sync!
Thanks man, worked hard on it
And it shows
point 7, don't be a ducker
DamageXcaling How else do you get while standing punishes?
The point he's making is don't hold down back expecting to tough it out. Standing block is much better for doing that. For more advanced players, you can get an instant while standing move by doing QCF/QCB + button. However, this only works if your character doesn't have a QCF/QCB move in their arsenal. For those characters, D,DF,Neutral + Button or D,DB,Neutral+ Button work as well, just a bit more difficult to do.
Noob question, do you have to hold down back to block lows, or can you just hold down?
Shunderz
Hold down back to be safe. Tekken used to have auto blocking with neutral inputs, don't remember if it works while ducking, or even standing anymore.
There's still autoblocking
Pretty good advice. Especially the 3D aspect. Will keep this inmind over on my channel
I agree with many of these but if we going to say what new players do as mistake and actually people still make today....
Just holding back
Like for real it a fighting game both offence and defence
Many players just hold back just trying to counter and that it.
Markus Hein Even if you play only one character, it’s always basically required to learn other characters so you can have a gameplan against them.
Thank you so much😊
This meant a lot for a newbie like me..😅
Because of this I remembered this embarrassing moment in the arcade🙈Where I just kept losing, and I didn't notice at the bottom right corner the enemy already has 11 wins 🙈...
