I am out of words. Such nice content. The guest is so nice and humbly answered all the questions. Very informative video.
In addition, Can not neglect the hard work that has been made such as Subtitles, Cuts, editing, retakes and many more which we do not have any idea. So a big Thanks to Miss Eileen and the whole Mandarin Corner Team.

*TOO FAST?* Control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video 5% at a time on desktop computers and laptops OR 25% at a time on smartphone!
Access the playback speed controls as follows:
*Desktop Computers and Laptops:* open the video, then go to the lower right of the video's screen and click on the settings icon (it looks like a GEAR). On the upper right of the options window that comes up, you will see the link "custom". Click on the "custom" link to control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video 5% at a time.
*Smartphones:* open the video and go to the upper right of the video's screen. You will see 3 dots. Click on them and you will see the link to open the "playback speed" controls. Click on this link and you will be able to control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video 25% at a time. Note that viewing the video on desktop computer/laptops gives you greater control over the playback speed (5% vs 25% on smartphones).

Well if you have cesarian you need to stay at least 3 days in hospital. I gave natural birth to twins and I was able to walk in 2 hours although I had pretty much bleeding. Natural birth is sth different than having an operation. It is a natural process your body can easily adapt to whereas cesarian is an outsider intrusion in which you have high probability of infection and.other side effects. In natural birth your breast automatically gives milk. On the other hand in cesarian your body needs some time to understand youve given birth and thus give milk

Another very good video; thank you Eileen & Jane. When listening to "ancient Chinese beliefs regarding childbirth and baby raising" I noticed that I have heard most of these same beliefs, customs, advice, and rules in my European country. I would say: Not so much "Chinese" as "ancient"; ancient vs. modern. The "ancient" often turns out to be inadequate, misplaced or plain wrong. Not that everything "modern" (or advertised as advantageous) is better or even good: discouraging the breast feeding in favor of industrially produced baby formula ("the modern option" which my generation went through - and "paid" for), and the medically unnecessary pre-labor C-section as an "easy option" to natural childbirth (more and more practiced nowadays, in China in particular) are definitely wrong public health initiatives. We humans have branched off as primate mammals ~60 million years ago; we should not interfere with it.

Someone from China can correct me if I am wrong but I think the reason why they don't allow you to know your baby's gender is because Chinese law bans gender identification of the fetus except under specific conditions, like abnormalities and the like. As an ethnic Chinese man, born outside of China, I grew up being taught that fathers should be with their wives during labour and it's not unusual, especially now, to see them in delivery suites. While a lot of what happens in a hospital, during and after birth, is customary and is a consequence of the public system over there, I know some private Chinese hospitals that allow the father's presence. While Jane specifies the reason in her case, it is usually, care of the husband due to blood is nothing in the grand scheme of things. It is customs and traditions that generally dictate how hospitals, doctors and nurses, deal with deliveries as a whole and it's usually on a hospital-by-hospital basis.

Most foreigners don't know the fact that it's officially forbidden to give birth without having appropriate paperwork. This means, without an official certificate that proves you're legally man and wife, and when it comes to childbirth, there's no other way than to do an abortion or give birth in illegal places.
Under normal circumstances, in China, everyone has to present 結婚證 and 準生證.
I myself have been there, my 二奶 had to abort the child cause there was no way to marry her.
This used to happen a lot back then because many Chinese girls don't take things into consideration no matter if you're married, once they're crashed on somebody.
