    *TOO FAST?* Control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video 5% at a time on desktop computers and laptops OR 25% at a time on smartphone!
    Access the playback speed controls as follows:
    *Desktop Computers and Laptops:* open the video, then go to the lower right of the video's screen and click on the settings icon (it looks like a GEAR). On the upper right of the options window that comes up, you will see the link "custom". Click on the "custom" link to control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video 5% at a time.
    *Smartphones:* open the video and go to the upper right of the video's screen. You will see 3 dots. Click on them and you will see the link to open the "playback speed" controls. Click on this link and you will be able to control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video 25% at a time. Note that viewing the video on desktop computer/laptops gives you greater control over the playback speed (5% vs 25% on smartphones).

    Leaving plastic bags on tomb sweeping day... this is very strange to us foreigners, as plastic is the scurge of society and to leave it in such a spiritual place seems like the worst thing. Besides, plastic is a modern material so I don't see any tradition in it, paper is fine. Also generally speaking I often find Chinese cities incredibly clean but in the countryside there is a steady stream of litter floating around, which is a great shame. Perfectly reasonable people will simply toss their rubbish away as it's something they have always done. This was a problem in my country too when I was young, but people are more aware now. For the same reasons I am hopeful that countryside litter will become less common in China too, it's a beautiful country.

    I met my Beijing born Chinese wife in 1985 when it was still very difficult to marry foreigners. Her family were initially very much against it, saying foreigners are not serious and get divorced too easily. Anyhow, although it proved impossible to get married in China, we stuck it our, married in Hong Kong and have been married for 36 years now, and have five fine sons. We live in England and sahe is very happy here, but remains proudly Chinese.

    As someone who interacts with chinese every day I can confirm its very difficult to marry a chinese person as a foreigner. Its mostly due to China being a communist country which makes it hard to relate with anything. Nearly every country you can relate with things but the CCP blocks, media, entertainment, news, and many things outside China so they have no idea that what we see is something the whole world sees.
    Of course the culture is very different which already makes it difficult. Plus China isnt a friendly immigrant country like USA. You could never be a citizen so its very complicated to have a relationship there. I think until the CCP exposes the world to China then you wont see much mixed couples.

    Thank you. Just out of curiosity - do all Chinese people have an English name and use their English name to introduce themselves?

    • @MandarinCorner2
      @MandarinCorner2  Год назад +2

      No, most Chinese don't have an English name. Usually those who are learning English will get one.

    • @shadowdraqon2479
      @shadowdraqon2479 Год назад +1

      The reason why chinese in America adopt an English name while some other asians dont(japanese and korean) is because Chinese names are harder to pronounce for English speaking people in America.
      For example the korean last name “park” is literally also an english word. And even though the pronunciation might be different in korean language. Its familiar enough and comfortable enough for the white/black/hispanic people in America to pronounce.

    • @shadowdraqon2479
      @shadowdraqon2479 Год назад +1

      Japanese names will be a little bit harder than korean names but still easy enough to pronounce. Natsumi or miyamoto or takashi.
      Chinese names/words however have many z and x and q letters, just look at the subtitles in this very video. Its a nightmare for American people.

    • @shadowdraqon2479
      @shadowdraqon2479 Год назад +1

      The reason for this is, theres very few word’s commonly used in day to day life in America that have the letters z/x/q. Play a game of scrabble, when you unluckily get the letters z or x or q, and you struggle to form a word, you will easily understand everything I said.

    China has advanced very rapidly, and the days of being extremely backward 落后 in thinking are still very much a part of daily life. The idea that women could not drink cold water was one of the most obvious. I think it comes from two sources. #1 the Chinese are dominated by their parents and their parents by their parents before them and on and on. Chinese parents do not need a reason to tell them to do this or do that, so women should not drink cold water is just something that is passed down over and over. This was changing when I was there, but still very prevalent. #2 Chinese people are accustomed to boiling their tap water to know it is safe to drink. Filling a glass from the faucet and drinking it is probably not a good idea in China. I told my Chinese gf that American female doctors and professional athletes drink cold water and iced-drinks all the time. She could not accept it. It is actually very telling about Chinese culture at large. Some of the old-fashioned thinking is great, but some of it is laughable.

    Hi, censuses show that the majority of foreigners living in Mainland China are of Northeast and Southeast Asian descent.
    There are also various African ethnicities living there, including my friend's sister, for 15 years.
    But in this video, when we hear «foreigners», it’s only «Caucasian».
    I am a Khmer from France, but no, South-East Asians don’t look alike to each other, let alone North-East Asians and West-Europeans.
    I know a Lao Loum or Tai (➡️ the majority ethnicity of Laos) from France, and a Han couple from Hong Kong SAR who live in Guangzhou.
    As well as a French woman of Celtic origin (the majority ethnic group in France) in Beijing.
    Can you make a video on what they think of North East and South East Asians ?

    Great content as always. 2:25 她说了 "然后我就想着能做一款他想吃的。" 我不太清楚。款是错的吗? 您能解释一下吗?我以为是为了时尚和产品等等。这是自然的吗?is it used incorrectly? I thought it was only used for fashion and products etc. Is it natural or common to use it like this?

      "款" is used more specifically for counting items with distinct designs or patterns, rather than just any general item. She was basically designing a new kind of bread specifically for her husband, so it wasn't used incorrectly.

    Very interesting interview. It would have been good to ask about their baby’s language development, especially as the father’s Chinese is rudimentary. I wonder if they are intending to brin their child up to be bilingual.

      Most Chinese, Korean, or Japanese apartments are not much bigger than a car so besides running water not much difference.

    You can see how unflattering the marriage vis in China is. Unable to work and almost impossible to become a citizen plus all the hassles of buying a house taking kids to school ect. really wish China would improve this.

    Interesting and enlightening video, but one takeaway is the American government should put all the same restrictions on Chinese nationals living America that the Chinese government puts on foreigners living in China. The current practices and laws are clearly not mutually equitable for both sides. I'm sure the people in both countries are great, but it's the governments that always make things difficult.
