The video style where you interview another Chinese person in a long-form interview is by far my favorite and the most beneficial for my learning because: 1) The vocabulary isn't limited 2) I think it's important we hear native Chinese speakers talk, moreso than westerners who speak Chinese. It's good to hear proper speed and pronunciation 3) It's a beautiful insight into the minds and culture of China. I love the multitude of perspectives
I agree, it's the most enriching way to learn a language and enjoy the sound of it. Plus you start getting to know the culture and minds of inspiring chinese people.
I’ve now studied all the other videos on the mandarin corner website also got with the characters. So I’m happy always happy to see new videos! They are always so long which is great. I hope you continue producing more and more videos. Helps me so much.
We loved seeing Freida again in this video! What an incredible young lady who we enjoyed hosting at our school in Yangshuo. Excellent conversation with great vocabulary for Chinese learners. Keep up the great videos, Mandarin Corner! And if you come to Yangshuo again, make sure to come see us ;]
I just want to say, Eileen, that after further consideration I have to say that my favorite type of videos that you make are the story ones, the ones where you talk about topics with sophie (actress disappears, mamas boys, princess syndrome) the ones where you do interesting things outside (walk around my village, walk around Hong Kong, walk in the rain) and the ones where the discuss interesting topics with locals (what type of person they want to date, what do they think of dating foreigners, who has it harder woman or men).
Another great video interview. Her accent is different but very clear even though she speaks very fast. I found it difficult to stop listening to her story and examples of her life experiences. She is a beautiful, strong modern woman.
The content you make, the questions you asked, the answers, the video I'm watching, and of course both of you... are so much inspiring!!! Thank you sooo much!!!
Thank you Frieda for sharing your wonderful life experience. Watching this video not only helped me with my Chinese learning but also gave me an inspiration to face the challenges in my life.
Eileen does it again! Great interview. Frieda is a lot like you are in attitude. But only Eileen could get me to watch 50 min of a language which I can barely follow. Great job. And, by the way, since you talked about Frieda's appearance: I have to say she is absolutely drop-dead gorgeous! Thanks for your hard work, Eileen.
*TOO FAST?* Control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video *5% at a time* on *desktop computers and laptops* OR *25% at a time* on *smartphone!* Access the playback speed controls as follows: *Desktop Computers and Laptops:* open the video, then go to the *lower right* of the video's screen and click on the *settings icon* (it looks like a GEAR). On the upper right of the options window that comes up, you will see the link *"custom".* Click on the "custom" link to control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video 5% at a time. *Smartphones:* open the video and go to the *upper right* of the video's screen. You will see *3 dots.* Click on them and you will see the link to open the *"playback speed"* controls. Click on this link and you will be able to control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video 25% at a time. Note that viewing the video on desktop computer/laptops gives you *greater control* over the playback speed (5% vs 25% on smartphones).
Thanks a lot once again to Eileen and all the team of this great channel Mandarin Corner. Yours is one of the best contents on the net, not only to learn mandarin, but is also aweinspiring. Warm regards.
eileen you're my favorite mandarin content creator on youtube keep it up! i love these series'! they make mandarin learning so effortless, flowing, and entertaining! :D
I just simply love this channel!!!!!!!! Such a cool content, easy to digest, useful for daily life. I appreciate your hard work behind this kind of masterpiece!!! 🙌🙌🙌🙌
Great language learning material as always, but aside from that, a very interesting interview. She was a great guest who has an inspirational approach to life, and you were a great host. Thanks!
I will donate for sure. Thank you. I've studied for three months so far, many hours per day. It will take me a while to learn to comprehend all of this video. It will be great. I'm surprised at how slow 50% is already and my comprehension is way better at that speed. And at 25% I believe what I'm hearing is an aid to understanding how to pronounce better.
In my opinion there is no better way to learn reading Chinese than to read REAL CONVERSATION INTERVIEWS. It's absolutely worth it paying the $10 one-time donation and then listening while at the same time reading the Hanzi-only transcript ("listening with transcript" on the mandarincorner homepage). Now that Mandarin Corner has an increasingly big portfolio of LONG interviews (this one, Tattoo artist interview and the beauty products interview are all around 1 hour!), there is a TON of "listening with transcript"-material available now. Absolutely recommend it!
Now all our videos have transcripts with *TRADITIONAL CHARACTERS!* Available to *Mandarin Corner Supporters* only at: mandarincorner.org/listen-to-audio-with-transcript/
Thank you Eileen. You did a greath Job again. I learned a lot of new words. My listening skills for Chinese became much better since I use your website Thanks !! Love you !
A common experience among foreign language learners, including myself, is advancement comes in jumps.Suddenly you go from understanding little to more. It takes reading and listening. You can do both together but eventually need to separate the two exercises for full focus-reading or listening. I am doing this with these videos in 5-10 minute segments. It takes work but once you experience a jump you will feel very encouraged.
You're right! I have also experienced those jumps. It feels very weird and great to find yourself suddenly understanding so much more than you used to. It is an interesting process.
I liked this conversation because it was not too fast, but a lot of vocabulary. We can listen and even notice the tones. One of the best channels for learning Chinese. Thanks a lot🌱🌷🌷🌷🌷🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Dear Eileen, what a great video! Wow! So exciting, and so helpful for learning. I also do rock climbing, so it helps me also learning such vocabulary. I will donate for you! Be sure! And keep on doing such videos, you are the best!!!
Such an interesting woman. I feel sorry about what she had to go through for work and I am happy she found freedom, health and happiness in climbing. Work is important but not when it makes you sick! Take care of yourselves and don't forget to enjoy life too 🙂💜
Love it. Thank you for this very interesting and entertaining conversation. Besides Frieda’s great story it’s also very immersive. And also to hear the typical Chinese woman stereotype : „Slim, minimal muscle surface and best white skin“ be thwarted. Best wishes for you both. Thank you for your great work. Donation already done.
Mandarin Corner is great, 谢谢 Eileen! I first tried to study 普通话 in a Sunday school in 纽约 Chinatown in Feb 2006; I remember the teaching style was horrible and the books were so boring.. so I gave up. Last summer, I started seriously again, and between apps and videos, I am learning 超级快, and it's super fun😄. 科技是厉害 🙌

This reminds me of some CCTV tv shows about interviewing people, i watch them when they put english subtitles so i can understand them lol. Helps a lot to get use to the sound of the language.
This video is an amazing resource. As someone learning Mandarin AND is also obsessed with climbing it's really great to hear the way a native speaker talks about the sport. I only wish the subtitles were soft not hard (i.e. selectable not burned in) as I can't highlight things. Also we're stuck with the simplified characters and I'm studying traditional...

Thank you so much for what you're doing Ai Ling! These are really useful videos in a perfect format. Would it be possible to interview 1 or 2 foreigners speaking Mandarin, please (similar to Tayler's video)? It is so inspiring to learn about their journeys in Chinese
We recently went to Sichuan and interviewed an American who is the second longest China RUclipsr (after Serpentza). We then interviewed an Englishman who has been in China for 14 years, was able to get the Chinese Green Card and speaks amazing Chinese. These videos are kind of long and will required a lot of editing and subtitles preparations but they should be out within the next month to two months.
Ai Ling, I just want to say that I admire your passion, hard work and energy. Thank you so much for what you do. Here’s my Weixin: ildar_akhmetov (I’m based in Geneva -> let’s stay in touch and you are always welcome to swing by!)
