Spilled water in mine…water. Waited a few days hoping they would dry out and return to normal. USB still didn’t work. I reset the Master software to factory settings. Again, USB ports still didn’t work. Pulled out the usb module, took it apart. No signs of wetness….figured maybe it was an unplug and reset. Reinstalled and…usb still didn’t work. Pulled module again, took apart and this time used a tooth brush on the circuit boards and usb terminals with rubbing alcohol as instructed from your video. Let all parts air dry. Reinstalled modules and to my surprise the USP ports now work! Crazy…Thanks!!!!
I came across this after I spilled a big glass of lemonade/water in the tray of my f150 this past weekend....I did like he explained and everything works again! Thanks man...
I accidentally spilled Gatorade directly onto my USB ports in my Ford Transit Connect work truck, and saw this video has the exact same USB connectors as my truck. I did exactly as the video instructed (without some of the fancy tools) and was super surprised to see the ports working again and the CarPlay functioning correctly. This was a huuuuge help, thanks a ton for sharing!
I spilled coffee 6 months ago and it’s stopped working After I seen this video I took usb module out cleaned usb ports with alcohol and was shocked it worked Wow! Thanks for your video.
This also works for the Transit Connect. My unit failed when and I suspect the detailer got a little fast and loose with his spray bottle. I was planning to buy a new unit but this fixed it! I wish Ford put a cap over the plugs when they are unused.
Thank you for figuring this out! This part is about $100 but I followed your advice and it works. I didn’t have alcohol so I used mass air flow sensor cleaner. It worked great. Thank you!
Thanks, this worked for me. Tried contact cleaner first but too humid and condensed a lot of water on the boards. Cleaned it all off with the alcohol and all is good. Thanks again
That looks like a hard project to perform with just one hand while trying to video with the other. But very helpful video for me. I had the same problem I followed your advice and suggestions and my error message on the sync system blocking the radio screen saying to unplug USB device as it was using too much power went away after I put it back together. thanks for sharing.
OMG! Dude thank you for making this. Guy cut me off and had to slam on my brakes and spilled coffee everyfuckingwhere. This fixed it. I even used an electrical clean spray that did not do the trick but the alcohol did!
Follow his advice!! He saved me 100’s of dollars in a simple fix after a drink spilled into my console. The hardest part was getting the port out and separated to clean the circuit board. Cleaned it with alcohol and car play went right back to working. Thank you for posting!!
What did you use the alcohol with? A toothbrush ? I spilled a drink into the USB port of my car and now it will not play audio from my iphone even though it still seems to charge it. So mad at myself and I’m nervous to try to fix this on my own.
Mine quit working probably a year and a half ago and I just never bothered fixing it until recently and was looking for a replacement and just so happened to see this and thought why not. After looking through my garage for about a hour I found the port took it apart and sure enough a little alcohol and car play fired right up after. Great video
My daughter spill drink on mine and it start to appear a warning on the screen that said USB device requires to much power and the warning didn’t go off even that is nothing connected to it anymore, any recommendations?
mine had a little bit of what appeared to be corrosion after they got wet from a leaky windshield. Brushed it off with a detailing brush and started working again.
Thank you for this, but can somebody show a video of this done step-by-step like how the circuitboard was cleaned Howitt was put back together and reinstalled. Thanks.
Thank you for this post. A master reset didn’t resolve my issue so I had to follow your instructions for the removal and cleaning of the module. I was able to pop the module using the tip of my smallest Allen wrench, as it has that 90 degree curve and was thin enough to fit into both gaps of the module. I wasn’t able to open the module case, but found that it wasn’t necessary in my situation. I used electrical contact cleaner and a pec pad wrapped around a cotton swab stem to clean out the USB slots. I reconnected the module and the upper slot worked, but not the lower, so I took it out and gave it a second cleaning, then used my phone charging plug to connect and disconnect several times, hoping that would loosen any debris in both slots. Gave it a shot of compressed air, reconnected the module and now both slots are charging. So glad that I don’t need to have this $ervised by a profe$$ional.
Hi Bro! I bought a used 2017 Ford Edge with SYNC 3. Everything works perfectly, except the USB. The SYNC does not react on anything connected to the USB ports. But blue LEDs are ON. Can you advise how to check the issue, USB HUB, CABLE, or APIM?
Same issue! We have a Ford Kuga 2020 reg. USB slots do not work! When plugging in USB stick it just flashes red and does not detect it. Did you fix your issue? We are contemplating buying 2 new USB connectors and a lead.

Thank you- my wife spilled a margarita on the USBs in my F-150 and they both stopped. This was extremely helpful.
I just did this today and it did the trick! Must have been Coke or coffee!!! Thanks for the info!!!
This worked on my 2019 F150. USB ports stopped working. Thank you for posting this video.
Dude you 100% turned a frustration I might have spent money on to fix into a non event. Thank you!!

Thanks for posting this video. Very simple to remove and repair. Saved $50 !
Worked on my 2020 Edge with the same setup. Amazing that a wipe with alcohol would restore the contacts
Great video, saved me the time and money of buying a new part. Thank you for posting!

I’m going to try it today, did the same thing, coffee
This video is a godsend
I did just that yesterday so thanks for the video
Excellent, thanks for sharing.
Did the exact same thing. Thanks for sharing
2021 Ford Edge coffee mishap yesterday, now I get no CarPlay or charge. Going to try and clean with rubbing alcohol and air pressure. Pray for me LOL!
Would you happen to know if this would be covered under the standard Ford warranty?
Doubtful unless you can get rid of any liquid spill evidence. A replacement part on eBay was only about 50 dollars at the time.
worked like a charm!! Thank you!!!
Thank you. I just did same thing by spilling a soda so im going to try your method and see if i can save the $90. I’ll let you know
I think you can get them on eBay for $50
Worked for me!!! Thanks for sharing

Very Cool, thanks for your expertise.
Where did you pull the piece apart from? I got it out of the truck but can't seem to figure out to get it to come apart
Hey mate, cool video.
How did you actually remove it?
Did you just use the tool or did you remove some of the plastic panels first?
This also worked for me 🎉 thanks
Does this work on Ford Rangers to pop it off ?
Thank you my dude!
Thank you man!
it worked !!!!
Do you know the part number by chance

The issue was in the USB module itself. Everything works fine after changing the module
