I went through the process and followed the directions exactly. It took my car over 3 hours to update. Not sure why. But when it got to the end and said installation complete. It worked! One thing none of the RUclipsr's never mentioned was that the screen gives an alert saying that the USB is not compatible. Even though it all still works. My guess is because i got the parts from Amazon and not from Ford.
Thanks for your video. I did this last night and it worked. The only thing I wanted to add was that my USB ended in “-F” not “-B” at the end of the numbers the that were the same as yours on the box. Just an FYI.
This applies for 2016 Ford Fiestas and Fiesta ST's im having the same problem in my ST, i just need to find out which one to put into my car. This video helped alot i thought i was the only one not getting it, after i updated to v3.0 Sync.
Thankfully, CarPlay now allows other navigation apps... at least on my other Sync3 devices. I had a 2016 C-Max and went through the update. I then traded that in for a 2018 Fusion, which was already setup for CarPlay. I think I was able to use Waze prior to trading in the C-Max. The reason I came today is I just bought a 2016 F150 to replace my 2013 Explorer and it hasn’t been updated yet. I ordered my new USB hub, which will arrive tomorrow. I couldn’t remember which I am to do first... update firmware or update hardware. I THINK I’m supposed to do software first.
Just wanted to add my thanks as well. Worked great. I found the part at Ford Discount Parts ($50.30). This is what I ordered: HC3Z-19A387-E 2016-2020 Ford Control Module.
I cant even get my pos to update, let alone install the module, but I have spent $85 for no CarPlay still. If you do plug the module in before updating it, the pos says its a bad USB and to remove it
Going to go get this part after work today I’m tired of Bluetooth connection and the volume for music also is lower through Bluetooth than through Apple CarPlay or android whichever you have
Good video i have the part number on my video but if you got to your ford dealer just tell them you want the latest production usb port apple car play compatible they can be a pain to pop out some times especially on the newer edges got you with a sub 🇺🇸👊🔴⚪🔵💪👍
That came out wrong So all I have to do is buy the part and everything is already loaded. I don’t need any download or upload or anything ???? What’s link to where you bought part Thanks
@@billwandling318 You have to upgrade your Sync system. 2016 Sync comes with version 1.0 and you need to update it to 3.0 You have to go to the myford website where you are able to login or create an account, register your vehicle and then download the new version onto a usb flashdrive, then go to your vehicle and plug that usb in and your system will detect the update and start the process. Should take about 30 minutes and have to leave the vehicle on, install this part an bam, Apple Carplay. If youre running Android however Android Auto will connect wirelessly. Its a bit more than just downloading though, look up specifics through other sources. 1 your flashdrive will need to only have that file on it i believe and have one with at least 3gb of space, then you will need to reformat the flash and file you download. Sounds tedious but its really simple, if youre lucky you might be able to call the dealer and just have them do it for you although it will probably require an appointment and end up taking hours instead of 30 minutes
Joey Ivezaj go register you car/truck on ford.com you can download the update to a thumb drive and then upload it to your car/truck or if your vehicle is WiFi enabled you can connect your car to WiFi and set automatic updates

@@fordtechlife i figured out the problem; you have to be on the screen you want to control on my truck; volume up and down for example, i have to click on spotify/music screen, and it'll work correctly; siri button works from any screen.

Installed just as seen on this video however I immediately got an message that states " This USB device is not supported. Please remove". Then bought another USB module online and got the exact same error. Anyone else had this issue? Any suggestions?
I did this in my 2016 Taurus. Works great but to be honest if you already have Sync 3 you do not really get much additional functionality with Apple CarPlay although my car already had navigation in it. I am hoping more apps become CarPlay compatible because most of the time I actually leave it turned off. I do like having the option though because I can use other Navigation apps if I need to and still see the directions on the car screen.
How did you get it in a 2016? I was talking to a Ford/Sync Representative today and they told me that only cars after 2017 have Sync 3 and that you cannot update Sync 2 to Sync 3.
@@dylanmurphy7814 Some 2016's had it. Also, they will tell you that Sync2 cannot be swapped with Sync3, but you can. It is a drop in replacement. You just need the screen/apim assembly, a GPS antenna, the USB hub listed in this video, and a power adapter for the hub from a source such as Infotainment or 4DTech.
lol 😂 “do not get much additional functionality with CarPlay “ what are you expecting. It makes the screen look like your iPhone and access to music and maps in a familiar way so
What kind of magic ass screwdriver do you have to do this? No way this popped right out with a regular screwdriver. I just spent and hour and this fucker is not coming out at all
It's stupid that you need a new module for this. It should just be a dumb module that passes USB straight to the head unit with separate dash light wires. By the looks of the connector, it's a special USB mini-B connector and the module is a USB hub which should be standard.

in amazon now the las letter is F, I don't know if its going to be the same

Can you post a link to the usb module? Is there another place to order it?
OEM is Best Ford Dealer
If you never found it look up Midway Ford on Ebay they have it

Does this work on a 2015 F-150 XLT model?
