I did the reset of the system, but my problem turned out to be the fuse in the fuse holder. You were very helpful showing me where it was and which fuses to replace. My system has now updated and I no longer have a couple of sync problems. So, thank you so very much for the very helpful information in this video.

Great video! I was having problems the last couple of weeks with a message on the display screen stating “usb cable is disconnected.” The blue lights were on around the usb port but Apple car play would intermittently disconnect and reconnect. I picked up a new usb port from Ford, followed your video and within minutes it was fixed. Thank you, this saved me the time and hassle of having to bring it in for repair.

Great help. Master resets were not effective for me but glad I was able to try. I also disassembled the module to clean all connections. No visible signs of damage or soda. I suspect water splash shorted it out. Replacing the module was my final fix. USB was affected, not the led lighting. btw... Ford changed the part number. Parts guy at the dealer pointed it out after frustration to locate the part in the catalog. My 2018 F150 original part HC3T-14F014-AC. The replacement now from the dealer (FoMoCo) is now HC3Z-19A387-H. Hope that helps someone.

I really appreciate the video. I was wondering if you thought I needed to do the reset or is it just my cord because the USB would come on in off it would go off of sink into Ford android auto. It's driving me crazy. Do you have a suggestion on What chord is best to use? I have an S20 android
If its doing weird things a master reset is always good it resets stuff and delete sync from your device then reboot your device start a fresh new connection pay attion to all the prompts when you start a new connection allow permmisions always recommend OEM Cables apple or Samsung depending on device also trying some one else's phone to rule out a device issue 🔴⚪🔵🇺🇸🚘🔧 thanks for watching and commenting

Do you know if it’s possible to change just the back wall of the cubby area where the USB port fits into? I have a 2015 Lariat with Sync3 upgrade - my issue is the USB port is on the right side of the cubby and on the left side I have a cigarette lighter and would like to have just the USB on the left (to resemble the cubby area on this STX) and also avoid the chord from being in the way when taking things in/out of the cubby and remove the cigarette lighter. Thanks in advance for any help!
I think there is a couple variations of that cubby I would recommend looking into a wrecking yard and see if you can't find the other Style I believe there's one with no cigarette lighter with the USB port in a different spot 🔧🚘💪👊🇺🇸

Cool. I have a 2020 STX and I'm gonna try this because my usb are not working. I got an error message saying that my cord was shorted and I believe it shut it down because of that. I got the error message twice. I'll let you know what happens. No spills.

Maybe you can help me out with a little advice for my 14 explorer? When I plug my phone in it initially charges but after a couple seconds it stops charging. When looking at sensor data for USB port it says yes all the time whether there's a cable in or not. Also tried the master reset but was wondering if there might be anything else you've seen... only thing I can try at this point is just a cap discharge and see if that helps
I would try another cable preferably a OEM cable for the device being used also put some music on a usb drive and see if it will play the music off the usb drive, but it sounds like you might be having a cable issue, also possibly try another phone see if it will do the same thing, 🔧🚘🇺🇸🔴
@@fordtechlife will do... also forgot to mention that this car died in a storage unit after sitting for 6 months and I had to jump it but scanned all systems and got a couple codes all for low battery voltage and cleared them all... but will let you know what I find just so you have something to recall yourself if you run into any problems... I've fixed all my prior problems with the entertainment system by simply factory resetting it like you did, but I appreciate the input.

fordtechlife, In your video, your test USB module is physically taller than the hub that was originally in the vehicle. How did you get the replacement hub to fit in the hole where the original hub was? Is there a new part number? I have a 2018 F150 and the part # HC3Z-19A387-E is too big to fit in the hole as the damaged hub in your video. Help?

Thanks for highlighting the USB area. I am running in to a small issue on the same kind of truck, 2019 STX. I plugged a USB male in to the car port, and it has a 3.5mm male on the other end, which I wanted to plug in to my Sirius XM car dock. The USB "source" did not appear on the screen and the cable got real hot. My next try was with a USB Bluetooth transmitter that plugs in to the USB port. The power was there and Sync recognized the device, but the USB source, again, did not appear, and when i tried to connect to the Bluetooth the screen said "device does not offer and SYNC-compatible features". Should I try the master reset or is there no hope for what i am trying to do?
Yeah this system doesn't have a 3.5 auxiliary in Jack about your only option is to just use the Sirus radio that is equipped with or possibly going through a aftermarket radio store and have them wire in an auxiliary in Jack but I'm not sure that that's possible they have to look at it maybe they could wire in the auxiliary in to the satellite radio source thanks for watching or possibly use a Bluetooth device that will transmit the satellite radio sound from your device through Bluetooth for the truck 💪🔥🇺🇸🔧🚘
@@fordtechlife I'll probably end up just using the FM transmitter and getting audio through the radio. Ford definitely gets an F in my book for this Sync system.

Went through this process, ended up having to order a new usb port. Still doesn’t work. Checked fuses too and nothing. I’m at a stand still with this, any other ideas?
I have had to replace the cable from the sync module to the hub before, thats your next cheapest part if it still not working next would be the actual apim module 🔧🚗👊🇺🇸

Hey drive a raptor I am actually a tech at Porsche and mine is doing same as f150 In Video I replaced usb and hard reset. Unit keeps stating faulty cable or device across top of screen. Anything I’m missing let me know

Master rest didn’t work for me.. looks like I need new ports. And my ports don’t even light up so figure a short. A question about lights on the gear shift. Mine don’t light up… are they supposed to?
Depending if the head lights are on at that time I think the shifter should I would start with new USB ports hub assy in some cases not many I've had to replace the cable from the port to the module hope this helps make sure when you do the master reset nothing is plugged in to the usb at that time and dry different usb cables and or a usb with music on it 🚗🔧👊🇺🇸

Perform the master reset like in the video should work if that don't do it make sure you try a different phone chord could have a bad chord preferably a Good OEM chord
If reset isn't working you most likely have a bad usb port hub assy would need to be replace
Hey brother, my radio hasn’t been turning on lately when I turn on the truck (when it’s cold outside), so I disconnected the negative terminal for about 10-15 sec and the radio display turned on. But my tps gauges on the digital dash aren’t reading kinda looks like this for all four tires ---.
Its most likley the ACM audio control module radio you could check the connection disconnect the plugs on the back of the radio insp the pins if everything looks good Reconnect the plugs make sure to get the connector fully seated should hear good click noise and then give it a try if it stopped doing it you're good if it keeps doing it you probably need to get a radio
For the tires you probably just need to take it for a good drive and it should start acting right
Well, We WON'T BE DOING ANY MASTER Resetting on our 2020 Expedition..... Thanks to this VIDEO, Saved us from reloading the Phones, and All the Map Locations / Destination's etc, etc, etc, etc. Personally, I would have Tried another USB Charger / Port before I did Any MASTER RESET! Stumbled onto this VIDEO This AM 03/12/2024, and will Be replacing the Charge/USB Port!
Some times the system gets overloaded with everything especially When phones are getting updated and things change And no longer wanna work correctly the master. Reset helps refresh everything and makes the system Work faster and better. But hope everything works out for you. Thanks for the feedback

I would do it again make sure no chord in the usb when you do it and try a different chord and reboot your phone start a new connection when you master reset it should clear all the phones out verify that all phones are cleared out I would recommend a fird dealer for a new USB port that way you get the latest part out

Its not easy to go to the big screen not sure that it can be done I'm thinking the big Dash harness would have to be replaced the screen is not cheap and neither is the apim module we're talking most likely thousands of dollars there might be an aftermarket kit though that can convert it using the Ford components and an aftermarket harness I'll have to look into it thanks for watching though🇺🇸💯🔧🚘👍🇺🇸

Well wrecking yard parts would be alot cheeper ill look at the wiring diagram on the plug for the apim module For touch screen and non-touch screen to see what might be different wiring wise, because both touch screen and non the apim location is located same spot, on the mustangs 15 and up 🔴🇺🇸🔧👍

Hey so I’m trying to connect my usb to the module and it’s not working. If the master reset doesn’t work should I put a new module and put the usb inside the new module? (If the master reset doesn’t work) and then maybe the usb will update my software version?
Not sure exactly what your asking if you put a USB thumb drive in the hub and nothing happens then master reset it some times might have to do it twice if it doesn't reset as in all phones gone from the system if no luck at that point I would try a new USB hub module

My 2018 F150 has no power source for the new usb for apple CarPlay, it was literally just a female usb slot and every single video I have seen has had the mini usb and the 4 pin connection. Any help would be amazing!
It should be there somewhere it may have fell down in there un less it's a conversion kit where they went from a 4.2 inch screen to a touch screen style the it may be a single USB chord
Hi Bro! I bought a used 2017 Ford Edge with SYNC 3. Everything works perfectly, except the USB. The SYNC does not react on anything connected to the USB ports. But blue LEDs are ON. Can you advise how to check the issue, USB HUB, CABLE, or APIM?
Most likely hub needs replaced if master reset won't make it work start with the hub assy I have replaced a few cables to from hub to apim but start with a new hub preferably from a ford dealer 🚗🔧👍🇺🇲
Hey man, my cable to my phone was kinda iffy when I wiggled it around it would work but it got worse and worse so I think I shorted out the usb plugs, the blue light around the usb holes still light up, thinking about buying a new usb hub?
You should be able to master reset it but if you want to replace it call your local ford dealer give them your vin number to get the latest revision on the USB HUB 🔧🚘👍🔴🇺🇸

When I tried to to a “Master Reset”, I am unable to select the “General” tab. I can select everything in the settings menu, except for the “General” section. Try doing a battery reset undo the positive battery cable leave it undone open the doors that way all the energy drains out then reconnect the cable and try it
@@fordtechlife I’m an idiot, I had the ignition turned to battery only, once I moved the ignition to the ON position I had access to everything. I did the master reset and switched iPhone cables and now I’m back in business. Thanks again!

If I’ve tried master reset multiple times, what could be the issue then? I’ve master reset and it works for a couple of weeks and then usb ports start disconnecting while using CarPlay. Then they don’t work at all. Also one of the usb ports doesn’t launch CarPlay it only charges my phone. From what I understand is that both ports are CarPlay compatible. Can you let me know next steps I should take. Also another thing I noticed is that when I plug in a usb cable it is very hard to unplug and the usb a tip of the cable gets stuck in the ports and I have to use a lot of force to get it out. Please advise.

Would this cause the sync maps update not to happen?
If your having issues with wifi update wouldn't hurt to master reset but honestly update over you home wifi can take about a month or so your best bet is to get a thumb drive and download the latest update from the ford website based on the Vin number of your vehicle help.ford.com/update-sync/

ANY CHANCE you have ever seen the sync 3 ask about turning on automatic updates and sync diagnostics EVERY TIME you start the vehicle.. as well as never hold the wifi password?

Yes usually once you set that up it will save it you might do a master reset then allow the auto updates and connect to your wifi should save it or do the master reset then do a power reset disconnecting battery cables 10 mins with the door open then reconnect give it a try if it still won't save recommend updating the sync module and retest the auto update can take up to a month do finally go thro at times

I have a similar problem but sometimes it works and some times it does not I have tried multiple cables, funny thing is some times it still charges but car play won’t show up
Sounds like a port issue or the cable from the port to the module wouldn't hurt to update to latest level as well
So if the light around the port isn’t on, will the reset work?
Some of the later models of usb ports they took the lights away do to heat issue from the lights so give it a try some times you might need to do it twice if it works all phones will be deleted from the system

Have you tried deleting sync from the phone and reboot the phone and or a different phone
Also see if it will read music from a USB thumb drive

Ok so I’m having an issue with my Apple CarPlay I recently updated my usb module to the sync 3 model and recently did the update now I plug my charger in and it’s charging fine but I get the “this accessory isn’t supported by this device” message and the apple car play doesn’t turn on. I’ve tried different chargers cause I thought it was a charger issue but like I said it still charges in the usb. So then I tried 3 different apple phones in my truck same message. Now I did the master reset and reset my settings on my phone even did the latest update and still nothing. Do you know what it can be? I use to have the older sync 2 module since I have a 16 f150 but I got water in the ports so I recently changed it out do u think it’s the two harnesses that connect to the usb?
I'm thinking it might be the USB port is it a 17 or later sync 3 port that's gonna be a tough one if you were a sync 2 system prior when you say sync 2 you mean a mytouch system or sync 2 no touch screen system ? 🤔
@@fordtechlife I had the factory USB port but I did an update back in 2018 and it updated to sync 3 2.0 but I know it won’t run apple CarPlay without the newer usb module so then I recently purchased the newer module for sync 3 still 2.0 then I did the update now I’m on sync 3 3.0 but no apple CarPlay. I have the bigger touch screen so I know it should have worked. I wanna just go out and buy another usb module from the dealership but ifs its gunna do the same thing thats just a waste of $60. Do u think when I dropped the water all in the center box it messed up the wiring? I’m thinking yes and no cause if it was fried it prob wouldn’t charge at all. I know the older module I replaced didn’t work anymore. Any thoughts

@@GunRunna47 man that's a tuff one I'm not sure at this point I don't usually see wiring issues with somthing spilt usually just messes up the module I see alot of chord issues with car play usb chord they always rec oem but sounds like you have tried few different chords and different phones I will try to check in to the error message see what I can find
Even though it does work still very annoying having to do this leave a like and try it out cuz it did work for my ford
You really shouldn't have to do this very often might have a bad chord or usb port going out 🔧🚗🇺🇲💯
If I replaced the USB hub and it still isn’t working, what would the next thing be to do? Replace wires? Or does this indicate a bad APIM?

I have a Explorer ST. When plugging in my iPhone it will always charge the phone, but CarPlay only boots up about 60% of the time. Any suggestions?
Yes system probably needs an update you can try the master reset but if that doesn't help probably need to update the system i would take it to the dealer let them update it even the 20s have updates available 🔴⚪🔵🇺🇸👊🔧🚘

Hey man, I'm having some trouble with my usb port. My usb port has always lit up but wouldn't have any actively (not charging or the system detecting usb). I replaced the usb hub and still have the same issue. It lights up, but doesn't charge or detect. I've tried master reset. I've tried multiple cables and still nothing. Could this be an APIM issue or is it the cable to the APIM?
Most likely it's the cable from the USB to the apim if you did the hub alredy 👊🙌💯🇺🇸 I have never had to replace a APIM for this issue usually the hub or the cable from the hub to the apim but it's process of alimentation if you do the cable and still have the concern it's APIM TIME
@@fordtechlife Is there a reason why that would go out? It seems weird to me how a cable can go out like that and cause these issues. But, I'm thinking it is probably the issue. My screen reacts very well with little to no lag so I don't think my APIM is bad

I spilled some water on the usb hub assembly. The display does not turn on when i start the truck in the morning but it eventually turns on later in the day. I replaced the usb hub last night and it was working fine. Now this morning the display is still not working and the new hub loses power about 15 seconds after turning on my truck? Any idea what the root problem is? Thanks!
It could be coincidence but I would try to master reset the system and then maybe even disconnect the battery for a little while and plug it back in
I'm thinking the display the separate issue it sounds like you might have a failing apim module which is the actual sync module
I was wondering if anyone can help me 🥺. I have a 2016 Ford Fusion and my sync isn’t working. When i press the media button it tries to switch over but it will go back to the radio screen. Also my usb drive isn’t working as well. I really need help!!
You might have a failing sync module you can try to perform the sync reset or disconnect the pos battery cable the red one for 10 minutes then reconnect see what happens if that doesn't work you might need to get the module reprogrammed or replaced is your system a touch screen ?

The cable from the hub to apim would be next cheaper then the apim process of animation 🔧🚗🇺🇸👍
@@fordtechlife I am not entirely sure how to do that, do i have to remove the stereo to get to that? Also... something crazy is happening, on hard bumps my radio is changing chanells, like an old 80's CD player. think i have a short maybe?
My USB ports work but they are slow to load up and the system defaults back to radio if it doesnt detect them within a certain time frame... happens everytime I start my truck.. Do you think a master reset will address this or is there something else causing the slow USB detection?
i would do the master reset see if that helps> i do replace a lot of apims/sync modules for slow sluggish and sticking freezing systems
@@fordtechlife Gave the reset a whirl and no go.. still wont detect the USB before it defaults to radio.. Wait 30 seconds then you can select it in sources.. Guess ill have to get the dealer involved before the warranty is up

Some of the vehicles from I want to say 18 and up they took the lighting function out cuz it was causing too much heat in the hub assembly hope this helps or your USB hub is bad I've had them go bad in the lights not work
