      Good to know!!! My truck is a 2020 and mine just started acting up... it started with the backup camera staying on when shifting out of reverse. Then the black screen, which I found how to reset... now it constantly changes the background to daytime even at night (which I prefer night settings all the time)... I bought the extended warranty but unsure if this is covered or just power train. I will how to call the dealer to see, but regardless, I'm so glad I found your video!!! • @twinturboranch454
      @twinturboranch454  3 года назад

      When my bad APIM was identified these were my observations.
      Did not work: all finger touch controls, screen was frozen in split screen with navigation on one side and blank screen on the other side. And it remained on this “broken” split view for the 2 months that it took me to pull the trigger and fix it. Also the passenger cooled, heated, and massage functions did not work. (Which was restored when the APIM was replaced.)
      What did work: radio but I had to use the sync assistance from steering wheel functions to switch between Bluetooth or radio stations, Apple CarPlay worked but not the touch controls on the truck (as mentioned above), rear camera worked and also the physical camera button but I couldn’t zoom in on the tow hitch because it requires touch control. The rear camera did glitch badly. Glitched so bad the rear sensor alarm started using sound effects from a different vehicle (maybe explorer or navigator).
      Sounds to me that probably we don’t have the same problem and it may be a different issue, or not. Probably. My issues are totally opposite of yours.

      @@NZthinker yes. It was the APIM, the computer on the backside of the screen. After further research I concluded that was the issue. I ordered one on Amazon and I installed it myself. I think I paid around $400 for it which was way better than the $750 the dealership wanted, not including labor. It was pretty quick to change it out. I got a plastic trim removal tool kit from Harbor Freight for like $8 and knocked it out in 30 minutes. There’s a few good videos here that give a good walkthrough.

    • @twinturboranch454
      @twinturboranch454  2 года назад +1

      Better choice is your opinion. Less problems would indeed be to replace apim and remain stock if you have KR or higher. You may lose factory functionality based on what trim you have. My king ranch would probably loose the interface to turn on massage seats. But I believe there is one company that has an interface that allows you to access factory settings using aftermarket radio. You have to buy a control module and program it And you can program all physical radio button including on the steering wheel to do whatever function available. If you have a lariat or lower I don’t see a reason why aftermarket would be a competitive choice.
