The M18 isn't just for general officers, it's also replacing the M11 which is used by CID. I've also seen some aviators or personal security details using them. This system was more than just a straight trade from the M9 to the M17, it replaced 2 pistols with completely different parts supplies and different manuals of arms with a single system with parts commonality. Now that it's also replacing the USMC M9A1, M007, and remaining M45s, the Navy M9 and M11, the Coast Guard P229 DAKs and being adopted by the Air Force, it makes even more sense. DL Lambert FN identified the problem and issued a voluntary recall on all FNS pistols manufactured before Feb 2017. The condition may result after the FNS pistol slide is forced out of battery at a very small and specific distance, such as what might occur if the muzzle end of the slide is pressed against an object, and the trigger is pulled. The pistol functions as designed and does not fire. However, if the condition occurs, one of two scenarios may result: (1) if the trigger is held to the rear, the pistol could delay firing until the time when the slide moves back into battery, or (2) if force is removed from the trigger and the slide moves back into battery, the pistol could fire if jarred. In the unlikely event that scenario (2) occurs, keep the pistol pointed in a safe direction and rack the slide to the rear to reset the pistol. Avoid a “tap, rack, bang” clearing sequence. The fix was replacing the striker for a newer design like the one that is inside the FN509. I replaced the strikers in all my FNS pistols for the Apex heavy duty striker. Problem solved. You know what, I've been considering getting the M17 for some time now, but for some reason I like the "carry" configuration more, the M18 might have to be my next pick-up.
Got issued the M18 back in February. The batch we shot was hitting low at 15yds. Thought it was me, but it wasn’t. Before firing we had to change out the recoil spring and guide rod for a new one. When reloading, hitting the slide release is a pain. Had to power stroke it. Only plus side is that it’s striker fired over the M9 double action.
I've heard they shoot high for some and low for others. It seems Sig's QC could be at play here, yet again. I don't have any issues hitting the slide release. I actually like the location and size as it's out of the way so I don't ride it while shooting and it's big enough for me to hit it with my thumb without much effort. My brother and I love our m18's! They aren't perfect , but no gun is. I really can't stand the people hate sigs just because it's not a glock or the sake of it being different than what they are accustomed to.
What was the reason for the magazine not being able to seat in the frame after reassembling? Tim racked the slide and it seated. But whats causing this to happen? Ref 9:45 mark.
I got to fire 44 9mm 115 grain Remington white box out of my Sig sauer m18 and I can say it is perfectly balanced ( with my pl mini 2). I heard about hi bore axis and this gun has not recoil. The action is so smooth and the trigger is sweet. I am a very happy M18 owner here.
Been a p320 fan and a Mac subscriber since 2015, I can't begin to tell you how much I love these vidz. But it fairness MAC only had it in for the 320, it wasn't a sig thing, he's one of the first fans of the MCX from day one.
Great review Tim. I've had the M17 for about a year now and while not my favorite pistol, it's really grown on me. I, like you have had bad luck with Sig...lol. Might have to get it a sibling (M18). Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Merry Christmas!!!
So the Army bought the 320 Carry Model Grip Frame which works on both the M17, and M18. And it comes in various sizes to solve the issues we had with the M9 not fitting most shooters hands. The fire control module is the same. The magazines are interchangeable between guns. You just have 2 different length slides, barrels, and recoil spring assemblies. Not hating those features. But from what I can tell the rear sight is pinned to the red dot blanking plate. While that’s great for inspections having all your rear sights set at mechanical zero. It’s means you can’t adjust the rear sight for windage to suit the individual shooter. Not a fan of that. I do like the feature that it’s red dot sight ready. They just need to stock suppressor height sights, and a Marine proof red dot. One feature nobody talks about when they do the reviews is the break point on the trigger. I think they did their homework when they designed it to break closer to 90 degrees. As opposed to other pistol whose release point is at the end of a long trigger stroke. Like the XD / XDM’s.
Just got a M18 today and is my first Sig. I really like this gun a lot more than the 19x. The 19x is nice and all but I love the modularity of the P320 platform. If I want to conceal carry my M18 just buy a compact frame and a few mags and I'm set!
Coming from a Marine Recon/ SOC back ground, and having shot over 10,000 rounds on the range out of a P320 my concern is how well the SIG fire control group will handle sand when inserting on the beach. As you know surf and sand get everywhere. Some small springs involved in the SIG. Just sayin.
Tim, I hear SIG sends an additional recoil spring with this gun because the spring it ships with in the gun will only reliably feed NATO ammo. Is this true in your sample?
I really wanted one of these so bad when I first saw photos of these when sig first won the military contract. I ended up settling for a FDE X Carry. I'd still love to have one of these but think the X Carry is probably better with it's trigger and tighter tolerance on the machining.
You mentioned that it's cold there, do those gloves keep your fingers warm, MAC? I'm thinking that it would be nice to see a reliable review on gloves for cold weather shooting!
I have an M18 and I love it. The only bad thing is these days Sig only gives you the 17 round magazine in the box when you buy it. They give you a code to put in on their website to get two free 21 round magazines mailed to you. Bad thing about *that* is it'll still take 10-14 days to get those mags. Gonna be 16 for me. Would have gotten them today, but FedEx is having shipping delays and added four days to the transit time. Oh well. Still love this gun.
Just bought this today. Cant wait to shoot this. I have pistols I've bought from 500$ to 3k$ I am really excited to shoot and carry this one. Thx for another great video.
@@billstevens5277 That is odd to me. It seems that the type of person that would get this will also want authentic rounds at least occasionally as well.
It may be like the FS 92 the manual says it can run +P but limit it to 50 rnds. per meal. But dont say how many meals a day it can stomach. My guess is drop the +P when the barrel gets hot.
I'm glad these are drop safe. I just heard another police officer had a P320 go off because it wasn't drop safe and he was cleared because the gun malfunctioned. It still doesn't make any sense to me that anyone would want this over a P226. Even though the P226 is a heavier platform anybody in the world can shoot one pretty accurately. Seems like we downgraded to save $$$

Thank you for this video. The P320 Full size is the civilian version of the M17, while the P320 Carry is the civilian version of the M18. If I remember correctly, the Navy and Marines chose the M18, with the Coast Guard going along with DHS in choosing the Glock M19. I can understand that, as the Coast Guard comes under the DHS.
@Panurgic - Incorrect! According to Ash Hess who wrote the TM for the Army HMS trials and was actually there before, during and after the testing said in his own words, that the reason the Glock came out with a 19 slide and 17 frame was because one of the mandatory requirements was for the pistols to have a 17 round capacity full grip. Now when Glock themselves heard that, they decided to use their most popular model which is the G19 that already had a long military track record with SOCOM, Army, Navy SEAL and other LEO agencies, as well as their most popular model with civilians. It was easy math to just put the G19 slide on a G17 frame to meet Army requirements. Glock didn't copy Sig, if anything Sig copied Glock since Sig was never into the striker polymer game for over 30 years. Sig decided that the modern pistols were all going to be striker polymers because of Glock, and they were right. Even the Beretta is adopting the same concepts as well as all the other major manufacturers. Sig simply took a Glock 30 year trend that was first created by HK, took the modular design from Steyr whom is currently suing Sig over patent infringement, and created the P250 & 320. Sig or Glock are not the first to use compact slides on full size grips. Back since 2002 people were switching their Commander P13 1911 slide to fit on top of the Commander P14 full size grip.
Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the CZ p01 went to military trials with 3 stoppages on 50,000 round count... that's impressive, not taking away sigs thunder. BTW big fan here from virginia
The way the rear sight is screwed in should be different. The screws should be placed horizontal instead of vertical because the slide jerks the screws loose?

It's a "militarized" P320 Carry. People seem to forget about that model alot. It came out before the Glock 19X and well before the Glock 45.
SIG is rocking out the fifty shades of brown ALA FN.
The frame/grip relationship reminds me of the Colt Commander style. In comparison, full-length 1911-pattern pistols seem odd, to me.
It has a very nice ejection pattern.
another great video.
Thank you sir.
Surprised MAC tested a Sig that didn't utterly fail something.
Best thing about the 320 is the ease of the controls. Out of the way when firing but workable with your shooting grip.
I do find the controls to be quite good and well placed.
Almost at 1 Mil subs! Congrats MAC, you guys are awesome!
Thank you brother! Merry Christmas!
FYI get the kagwerks extended slide release for glocks if you have problems with riding it.
12000 rounds. That really impressive
Coming from a Marine Recon/ SOC back ground, and having shot over 10,000 rounds on the range out of a P320 my concern is how well the SIG fire control group will handle sand when inserting on the beach. As you know surf and sand get everywhere. Some small springs involved in the SIG. Just sayin.
THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL FIREARM
Tim, I hear SIG sends an additional recoil spring with this gun because the spring it ships with in the gun will only reliably feed NATO ammo. Is this true in your sample?
Brian B I just bought one and it didn’t but now I’m wondering bc cheap 115 grain federal ammo kept having failure to eject problem
@@mattb12341 did you get a new spring for it?
Perfect video, perfect Sig. Thanks. Merry Christmas Tim.
Who doesn't love a good pair of Mechanix gloves.
Bout to hit 1 mil!
I really wanted one of these so bad when I first saw photos of these when sig first won the military contract. I ended up settling for a FDE X Carry. I'd still love to have one of these but think the X Carry is probably better with it's trigger and tighter tolerance on the machining.
1514 rounds through my Sig M18 with not malfunctions or breakage of any kind what a wonderful weapon.
It's the same as my P320 Carry minus the safety which I really like.. at least better than my G34 Gen 5.
You mentioned that it's cold there, do those gloves keep your fingers warm, MAC?
I'm thinking that it would be nice to see a reliable review on gloves for cold weather shooting!
I love waking up to a MAC video.
Congrats on the 1,000,000
I have an M18 and I love it.
I think the M17/18 are cut for the Leupold Delta Point Pro only. Civilain 320s for Sig optics only.
I wish MAC,Hickok,Honest outlaw,Sootch and Mr. Gunsngear would get together for a marksman competition.
Just bought this today. Cant wait to shoot this. I have pistols I've bought from 500$ to 3k$ I am really excited to shoot and carry this one. Thx for another great video.
I wonder if NATO spec rounds would shoot closer to POA.
No, the commercial guns aren't set up for NATO ammo. The surplus M17's are, but include a lighter spring that matches the commercial variants.
People that shoot pistols for groups have an extra chromosome.
Yeet Cannon Operators Union mine kept having failure to eject with 115 grain cheap federal ammo
I’m debating this or the g45. I think I might go with m18 for the added safety for aiwb
does the DOD have a random number generator that names weapons?
Keep up the good video guys merry Christmas to you and a happy new year Brad from Minnesota
What about the m19 from modern warfare? Just kidding. Cool we’re finally hearing more about the m18
Thanks Tim, great video as always. I'm impressed that you don't let the warm tropical weather keep you inside, LOL.
Strong looking ejection pattern !
As always eagerly waited for this review video.Atlas could see it.Awesome review.Merry Christmas and a very happy and Blessed New Year from India Sir 🙏🙏🙏.
Difnt the sig p320xcarry which is the full size grib with the compact barrel come out before the glock 19x
I've had the same issue with the gun shooting high.
But at what range did the factory sight them in for?
Thanks for the video I've been thinking about maybe checking into buying one. I like the thumb safety feature that's a bonus for me
Thank you for this video.
Love this pistol I got the Wilson combat grip on mine n flat trigger makes it 10x better
I missed this range. Lucky it's winter or Jason's dad would be mowing the lawn, eh?
Hahaha! Yeah, I do miss the lawn mower.
The M18 is the p320 carry that was introduced when the p320 line was introduced. Glock copied the full sized grip on compact slide with the 19x/45...
Panurgic 01 correct

UPDATE three years later! One Word AWESOME!
Is this gun quieter than a standard 320? Or did you turn the audio down?
What a beauty
Is the only difference between the P320 Carry and the M18 the safety and color??

Got me the commemorative M18.
