Hey IV, so the all tan M18 and M17s were the first generation models which during the MHS testing was found to have the drop firing malfunction. The gen 2's were never released to the public or military, and now the gen 3's which are issued to us in the Military are the ones with the black controls

The military no longer uses the M17 with tan hardware, the army wanted to save a few $ and switched to black hardware as well. The first 5,000 or so sig delivered used the tan. The army returned those guns to sig and Sig released the surplus military M17's to the civilian market. Im just glad i got a surplus tan on tan M17 while i could.

  • @Toxic9813

I purchased a P320 compact w/ manual safety from my LGS then ordered an M17 slide assembly from one of the several parts suppliers that stock them. Then ordered an M17 coyote grip frame from SIG and BAM ! The only downside is the serial number doesnt have the M17 prefix, buts that a minor thing. And I dont understand why SIG does not sell the slide assembly on their website but the slide is available from multiple third party suppliers, (mine came brand new, sealed in a SIG factory package). Anyway, I love the M17 !
Edit: SIG also sells coyote floor plates on their website, (standard and 21rd extended versions)

It's shorter, therefore has less mass above the axis for muzzle flip.
A performance version with ported barrel and slide would be awesome, as well as having the upper components available to fit this modular system.

But keep in mind it can be converted to a compact or sub compact really easily. And like Eric says you retain your serial number because the FCG(fire control group) is removable and easily put into a smaller frame. They also have options for thinner or wider grips. When they say modular they mean it.

Just an FYI, original M17's that the military were issued with FDE controls were returned to SIG and surplussed to citizens. All future M17 military models come with black controls. There have been times when certain sizes or calibers of ammo have been hard to find or prices have spiked and knowing which guns can still be used with a different easier to find caliber during those times could be really helpful. Plus it can help us new guys have a brief introduction to the world of ammo.

I do like the trigger and safety is very intuitive. However the Beretta 92 in any variant is a far superior gun. My 92A1 is my go to home defense handgun for the most part. I'd like one of these. Not only could I change the entire grip module to small, med, or large ever within the same grip length and magazine capacity. You could change to a small carry pistol with only a relatively inexpensive caliber conversion kit. You could also change the colors involved.
Nice to make these fit small hands and petite individuals to failry large people.
There is also an ability to swap to 40 sw or to 357 sig. I hope they'll also make 30 super carry. That would hild maybe 4 or 5 more rounds in a flush fit standard capacity mag. That would hold a lot of those little guys.

Just a friendly suggestion…waxed twine might prevent the soda bottles from sliding down so easily when you shoot the one each is tied to. 👍🏼

I'm issued one as a medic and they all have black hardware identical to the civilian available M17/18

That was a interesting video and I think the m17 would be a good thing to own I currently own a p320 sig and it is a exceptional pistol in my opinion I really enjoy shooting it and it is very accurate The only thing that I changed on it was I put a straight trigger on it which I think was a very good modification. I have shot probably 3,500 rounds through that sig p320 and I don't think I've ever had one malfunction with it.

I just bought my first SIG a couple weeks ago which is this one but the M18 midsize. I might pick up the full-size version in the “Bravo Black”

I’m super happy with my Sigg never had a malfunction and I don’t really drop it knowingly on the hammer. I guess that could happen but that’s not what I have it for.

The Army ended up ditched the "50 shades of FDE" hardware layout, and went with black hardware controls. I currently have an M17 issued to me, and all of ours have black hardware.

You must be talking about the original M&P hand gun. The M&P 2.0 has probably the best trigger on the market in a pistol without aftermarket changes.

I like my M9A3, and I used to be a damn good shot with my issued M9, but the P320 and P250 just fit my hand right and are easier to work with.

Love my P320. Set it up with Apex flat trigger. Vortex red dot. I've never had a round not come out the front end.

Eric, im not sure on the M17 but at the very base of the backstrap area on p320's it will usually have a stamping that says 'FM' for full sized medium grip or 'CM' compact sized medium grip etc etc.

Pretty sure the M17 has the “Carry” size grip module. I changed out my full size grip module with an X-Carry on my P320 RX full size

Josh Rayborn I ordered mine right from Sig Sauer’s website but another good source for Sig accessories is Osage county guns. If you want to swap out for the X-Series grip modules either the Carry or Full size will work. When choosing the grip module you can also choose Small Medium or Large, those sizes are relevant to grip thickness for hand size. Hope this helps.
