  • Doing a comparison between the sig P320 and the Sig P320 M17. Overall I really love both pistols but if I could only have one I’d honestly take the M17

    Its shorter so that Sig can use the same grip module for the M18 as well. That way when they put the M18 compact slide on it and it falls flush with the smaller slide. This also adds the versatility for the military to change the slide/upper as they need to for the specifics of the mission they're being tasked with. That way Sig can save money by only making one frame size(carry is the size and different control sizes...small/med/large) and the military can save money by only purchasing slides and barrels instead of a completely new serialized firearm module. Each member depending on their job could potentially be issued a frame, and then both the longer M17 slide and the shorter M18 where they can switch between the two if needs arise.

      Nope. Trigger is the seeialized part. Frame is completely interchangeable as well. Trigger group can come out of frame so you can change frame modules as well so it’s more versatile for different military soldiers say a woman with small hands, they can change the frame to one with a smaller grip. Really not sure why they used a shorter frame for m17. Because the marines received the m18 and the army got the m17. Since the trigger is the serialized part, the army can order as many new frames as needed for cheap without needing to buy a whole new firearm making it more modular

    • @HatsuneM1ku01
      @HatsuneM1ku01 2 года назад

      M18 and m17 were issued to 2 different military branches. So they won’t be switching slides

    • @RIPPER334
      @RIPPER334 Год назад

      The military will never buy replacement slides or frames... the contracts are for pistols only. They literally can only buy "wearable, replacement parts" such as springs and magazines... Should a gun get so worn or broken that it needs a new frame or slide, they are contractually obligated to replace it with a new gun. That's just how military contracts work.
      ...and being able to swap slides and fire control groups was not even at all part of the MHS requirements. They will never be inter-mingled because the two different sizes pistols are issued to two entirely different Branches of the Military as noted above.

    Damn that's what I get for not buying from an informed Sig rep.
    I asked a local town salesman if the M17 model had any internal differences from the civilian P320, specifically for durability, hot loads, etc.
    Was told that aside from the rear sight cuts on the slide, the shorter grip, the thumb safety, and the tan finish, they were identical.
    Knew I shoulda just went with the M17, oh well lmao.

  • @imageryweddingfilms2134
    @imageryweddingfilms2134 Год назад +3

    They didn't extend the frame all the way to the end because it's modular, so if you got a shorter slide and barrel, you now have the M18. It's like the P365 and P365XL variants where you can interchange the slides and frames with each other. So if they extended the frame to the end, they no longer have modularity with the M18.

The gold controls on the commemoration versions were the v1s that were the early issues versions and the trial versions. Newer updates models are identical ti the civilian versions now. I believe they used the shorter frame so they can use a compact slide on it. The shorter frame will accept the full size slide and the compact size slide. If they used the longer full size frame..then they wouldnt be able to run the compact slide. The shorter frame works for both slides.

  • @ember5935

    I think the reason for the shortened rail is because people usually use the first and second slot for lights and lasers, and weight reduction is more like the second-not-big-of-a-deal reason.

    Nothing wrong with the P320 (find handgun) but I too prefer my M17/M18 for the reasons you mentioned. To me, the P365 XL feels like the subcompact+ version of the P320 (first subcompact that feels and fires like a larger handgun) so it's my IWB carry, which is most of the time. Love it! As you mentioned, the M17 is just a fun, fun, fun weapon to shoot while plinking. Sadly, I carry it rarely because, when I do, I taking on my Beretta M9A4 OWB. Moreover, during the winter months I'll conceal the M18 (98% the same gun with a smaller profile) or CZ P07 under my jacket. Regardless, it's a fine weapon...wish I was one of those guy who could carry it IWB. Enjoyed.

    In the military, the 4 weapons safety rules must always be observed, and their weapons safety rules are slightly different than civilians.
    Treat every weapon as if it is loaded
    Never point your weapon at anything you do not intent to shoot
    Keep your weapon on safe until you intend to fire
    Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you intend to fire.
    Most Marines remember it by "Treat, Never, Keep, Keep."

    I don’t want a safety on my pistol unless its a single hammer action. And you can’t find a black no safety version. Plus with all the P320 custom possibilities its not really that appealing unless you want an military collector gun or a simple P320. Then again you can also customize it at a later time… So just having the fire control unit means the skies the limit…
