    Had the pleasure of having one of these beauties come into my hands this week. Gorgeous sounding compressor! I seriously can't find a bad sound. I see why everyone likes these things. I try to give a pretty broad overview of this beast in this video, but I will admit that extreme compression is my thing (rather than the subtle side of things).
    Bass used: Dingwall ABZ 6 string bass
    Other effects used: Boss OC-2, Strymon Mobius, TC Electronics Mini HOF

    I've spent the past two months looking at pedal reviews, trying to figure out what I want for my board. This is the most thorough and well articulated one I've seen. It was exactly what I needed to see to convince me to pull the trigger on this pedal. Thank you!

    Superb review! Best Cali76 CB review I've seen, and one of the best compressor reviews of all! Many thanks!
    A comment; at around 6:10 you reverses the attack/release setting. Max means slowest attack and quickest release.

    Bought one to use for guitar (non-bass). Spoke with Origin engineers about this and they said it is the same as the Deluxe except combined attack release knob and addition of HPF (which I like having). So I don’t think I am losing anything by having the combined attack/release since they said they have optimized the attack release to avoid some of the problems associated with odd settings of att/rel that can occur with separate knobs. The addition of the HPF really adds a nice feature to restrict compression to the high strings - great feature. You have to play with this pedal for about 2 hours to figure out what it can really do.

    Man i cant lie. The "I wish i could leave this thing on all the time" comment confuses me quite a bit. Incase i missed any reasoning or explanation why, im gonna check the video out again. Hands down the most helpful gear related advice i can give to any bass player, which hasnt changed in jeeze i dont know 15 years? Just whatever you do, DO NOT sleep on the Markbass Tube Compressore. In my shmucky opinion, its the most subtle yet dynamic feel/tone-enriching favor you could ever offer your rig.

    Hey Zach,
    Any chance you have tried out the Keeley bass compressor as well?
    Trying to find any sort of comparison, pro's, cons etc.. but I'm not having any luck.
    I've got a somewhat direct line via a mutual friend of Robert Keeley dropping off the Keeley version tomorrow for me to demo before I buy but the only issue I'm facing is there only seems to be 1 Origin Effects dealer in Canada so it's not as though there are a bunch of overnight options to get a Cali to demo at the same time.

    I’ve been a bassist for just about 40+ years and for the life of me I still don’t understand what compression does or how to really use it.. I know it’s a very important part of a great sound, but I’m having trouble understanding- looking and listening to your Cale demo as best I can…

  • @SlavSquatSenpai
    @SlavSquatSenpai 7 лет назад

    I was very skeptical about the ratio setting, being as it only goes down to a 4:1 ratio [according to Origin Effects via e-mail].
    So technically speaking, when you were rolling the dry in through with the 4:1 ratio, would you say it sort of emulated a 2:1 or 1.5:1 ratio setting? I'm very keen on retaining my dynamics, but still getting a very punchy sound from the compressor. I run my Keeley Bassist at like 1.3:1 ratio to get dynamics and punch.

    Another one who doesn't understand this compressor. At 6:00 you talking tahat you have the quickest attack and in fact you compresor is settled to tje slowest attack. Man you don't hear that? Cali76 compact bass has combined attack and release knob. Full anticlockwise you have fastest attack/slowest release. Full clockwise- slowest attack/fastest release.
