The bloke on the bass not only tested the pedal really well, but explained how to use it as a bassist! Well done mate! That's how you review an equipment!
This pedal works awesome with Baritone guitar, sounds amazing. Origin effects are a must if you've never tried them, the Cali76 limiting amplifier pedal is killer to.
Finally a guy who can play that bass AND knows how to dial in a compressor! Gives a real good impression of what this pedal is actually capable of. Great review, Kevin! Unfortunately there are too many weak demos on the Cali 76 series pedals around.
If I read the manual properly there is something slightly incorrect on the HPF: It’s not filtering the frequencies that are compressed, but filtering the frequencies that are detected by the internal sidechain. It means that the whole range is compressed but the compressor reacts only on the higher frequencies, so it changes its response, not his tone. This if if I’ve interpreted the manual correctly. No disrespect intended, btw, great review!
The hpf is applied only to the sidechain filter, which is what triggers the gain reduction. In other words, it makes the compressor react less to low frequencies, but whatever it compresses is applied to the entire frequency spectrum. What you are describing is a dual band compressor, which this pedal is not. Otherwise, great demo!
Fabulous review that explained how to work this pedal which is great for a novice player like me. I'm just looking for a pedal to give me more depth and better quality of sound so don't really need a pre-amp. Love how this pedal sounds.
Erm..wondering how it sound with classic Fender..played in classic fender style.Ah well-bought one..because an 1176, focused for bass, can be no bad thing
Hello, Rob! I would try fast attack and slow sustain, with a high compression ratio. Turn the HPF all the way to the left, and then mess around with the in/out knobs to make sure you're not driving the pedal too hard and over compressing yourself. Then mix in a little dry signal to taste. Thanks for the interest! Spunde, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1732, Spunde@Sweetwater.com
This guy is a nice bass player. Hands down, but he is talking completely opposite. He talks that he likes slow attack when his compressor attack is settled to the left. That mean he had fattest attack. And whe he talks that he like fast attack his compressor is settled to the slowest. 😅 Cali 76 compact bas has a combined knob for attack and release. When it is anticlockwise, there is the fastest attack and slow release. And when it is full clockwise, we have the slowest attack and short release. It's completely opposite than he is talking 😅

I’ve said it before...I’ll say it again: Kevin Spunde is the man. Great video!

The pre is the magic honestly. Compression is ok, but it's the preamp in the Cali that makes it more like a magic "goodness" provider.

I bought this pedal as it has a reputation as one of the best. That said I find compression probably the hardest effect to get my head around.
Probably going to buy this one ! Good reviewing

Outstanding review
You got the attack / decay time explanation backwards with slap
Always good information here
Thanks Spunde, going on my GAS list!!
Nice review, particularly in connection with a retailer - very informational! Thanks!
Should i get this or the Empress compressor as my first good compressor?
Beautiful bass... does it really need a compressor?😅
Here’s me listening to Slaughter hehehe

that one sounded like slaughter
I guess I'm too noob for understanding compressors
