This pedal and my Aguilar tone hammer pre-amp revolutionized my rig
Just love your content dude! Keep it up :)
Thankyou so much! 😁
Great demo and review! I would really enjoy seeing your take on the Empress bass comp. I feel like the features and quality are right on par but it's a better price.
The Empress was up there for me! I'll definitely keep an eye out for one. Cheers! 😁
Hey from Dublin. Another brilliant video. Hugely informative. Definitely the Rolls Royce of Bass Pedals. I may get one some day. I recently tried a few petals and fell in love with the “Diamond” Bass Pedal. Simple, effective and a great tone thickener 🎸
Thanks very much! It is a fancy pants pedal indeed. Ooh that was a contender for me! They seem great 👍
Thanks, great vid!
Cheers!
Great pick playing!
Nice playing Johny. May have to give this one a try.
Thanks Austin! 😄
That's one smooth compressor!
Premium bit of kit!
It is indeed a great compressor but I have been super happy with my Empress Comp and I still use a rack mount Symetrix 501 that you have to try Jonny.
Would love to try the Empress! It was my top choice alongside this one 😄
I think this compressor for the price it has is great ... but I can't part with my Boss bass overdrive/compressor ... nice review jonny, as always ... by the way, your sung hip hop mini rap drumm was hilarious. .. keep it up dude...bye😎😎👍😀
Is that a combined compressor and overdrive?? Thanks very much! 😆🤪
@Jonny Dibble well, to be honest it's just an overdrive, but I use it as both, for me it makes a really good job...
Pedal sounds killer! I’ve been using a Seymour Duncan Bass Studio Comp for 5 years and I’ve never felt the need to replace it
Oooh VERY nice! I nearly bought one of those when they brought them out. Nice one 😄
Sorry my terrible english. I have the MXR Bass compressor, the best i ever use. But i like to buy the cali76 and the Darkglass Hyper Luminal. Thanks, great video.
Not at all! Your English is great 😊 All great pedals! That MXR one I wanted for ages. Thanks very much ☺
Great review! Jonny check out a used Rane DC-24, around $200 and a true dual band compressor. Plus there's no good bass review on RUclips for it and it would be nice to see one if you could. Thanks!
Thanks very much! Ooh I've not heard of that one before. I'll keep an eye out. Thanks for the recommendation 😀
It’s got 6 knobs so it must be good, right? I agree on the price thing, there are more affordable pedals on the market that do the job so I will pass. Another great video Jonny. 👍🏻
Size doesn't matter, but the more knobs the better! 😅 Thanks man!
Uhh, that HPF actually just works on the signal that triggers the compressor, so for example your B string isn't compressed more than your G string because there's a huge difference in the low end content.
Oooh I may have slightly misunderstood then! Thanks for the insight man. Handy feature!
I bought a darkglass hyper luminal compressor. I learned about the Cali76 too late 😭. It’s still good just slightly colors your sound.
I was tossing up between the Cali, Hyper Luminal, an Empress compressor!
Hey. Darkglass hyper luminal has its own Cali 76 emulation mode called FET. Try it.
@@JonnyDibble are you sure you were “tossing up” I see the way you’re looking at that pedal.
Great stuff Jonny! Cheers.
the science tips about ratio is a kind of Idiocracy film's extract ?
The hpf ‘tells’ to the trigger when to start compressing ( based on frequency), but it still compress the lows.
Great feature for bass players 👌
I bought this Cali 76 Compact Bass. This after my Markbass compressor died after 2 months. The Markbass sounded good. What I miss on this Cali76 pedal is a Threshold knob. When I don't play, the compressor goes full on and so the pedal makes the (lvery! small hissing sound) from PreAmp of my Stingray louder, what gives a louder hissing noise. It would be better with a threshold to avoid this. So that the pedal react on quiet hissing sound. Or do I miss something? Any reaction or comment can help me. Now I have to leave my 'input' at 11 o'clock to avoid this.
The comp is based on the 1176, which has a fixed threshold. Instead of adjusting the threshold to your input level, you adjust your input level to hit the threshold. This shouldn't be causing extra hissing - and no, the compressor shouldn't go 'full on' when you aren't playing, as when you aren't playing you shouldn't be hitting the threshold therefore no compression should be taking place.
If the choice is between this pedal and the Empress Bass Compressor, which one would you choose?
Greetings from Uganda 🇺🇬👊🏿🖤
There is one at my local shop and I suspected that he bought it second hand and is trying to sell it overpriced. I will check the price tag again and if is it like 40% lower then brand new I will buy it.
Crazy prices new! Gotta go second hand where you can 😁
Do You prefer The single pedals? Or The multi effects pedal boards? And why? Regards !!
Hi! Good question. I use the Line 6 HX Stomp a lot which is essentially a multi effects. I combine this with real pedals though. I love the HX Stomp but if I had to choose, overall I do prefer the tactile benefits of physical pedals
Dry knob...nice!
Agree a bit expensive. Hyper Luminal has a better price tag.
Cheers
Who doesn't love a dry knob!? Lots of features on the HL too!
@@JonnyDibble cheers
Question: is compressor really needed apart from maybe recording bass ? Cali76
Is super expensive
Great question! It's subjective really. For me, playing hard with a pick and wanting to be a consistent power house behind the guitars - a compressor is an always on effect for me, even live. The Cali76 IS super expensive. I'll be looking at whether its actually worth it 😁
@@JonnyDibble looking forward to see your video. Maybe an idea to I’ve the cheapest possible compressor a check , like the Behringer one :)
@@ArturBFPVDefinitely! I find compressors can be a real hit or miss so will be interesting 😁
@@ArturBFPV Check out this video. He loves a big distorted sound but you can keep it clean and really add dimension to your tone. ruclips.net/video/JxIfKexqaRc/видео.html&feature=share
It's just that all your favourite records probably had a compressor on the bass since the beatles.
A compressor will stop your slap from taking peoples heads off after the quiet ballad.
what do you record through Jonny? like what interface and software
Hi! I record through a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 into Logic Pro X 😊
@@JonnyDibble thanks mate was thinking of doing the same actually 👍 so i think i will
@@dondon5964Nice! I've had it for years and never had any complaints 😊
Thinking of getting one.... What's best pre Sansamp or post Sansamp?
I like Post sansamp myself 😊
What's that riff around 11:12? Sounds familiar but I can't place it
Playing plectrum into an svt sim is probably not an ideal way to demo a compressor. Just saying.
Cheers for your charming videos.
I try and fill the gap with pick playing. That's just the way I would use a compressor 😊 Thanks for the feedback! ☺
I disagree and it sounds awesome
@@kevinbate4255 sure.
Grabbing it by the balls. ha ha ha. totally
please, normal sound, diferent tone´s please not only metal sound´s
I didn't find much of a difference. I actually thought a lot of it sounded better without the pedal.
..that's because it's renowned for not colouring the tone ...it just compresses.
