I love my Cali76 Compact Bass pedal, but I totally agree with you on the improvements it needs. Also, they should use countersunk screws on the back for better pedal board mounting.
Your tone is great and i feel this pedal only compliments it. I play mostly passive basses and want something that will compliment old school tone specifically my P basses I feel like this may be a great option and a less complicated compressor.
Thanks, Michael! This is definitely a great compressor and very versatile. If you’re looking for a vintage/warmer tone, check out the Diamond compressor or the markbass compressore. Those are two great options for thicker tones
@@IvanBassist Now I have Pigtronix Bass Phil and Boss CS-2 and waiting for Diamond BCP-1. Looks like I prefer optical style more. But this Cali is killing. It's definitely become in my short list to try.
Excellent breakdown and control demonstrating man. I’m looking for a compressor to purchase between the cali76 and the dark glass super symmetry. I can’t decide which to buy yet, the Cali 76 has the atk/rels knob combined and the HPF feature which seems great . the dark glass has a led meter and separate attack and release controls but no HPF the rest of the controls are pretty much the same, they are both expensive units $300 roughly. After you video I’m leaning towards the cali76 that HPF is a feature that is a must have
@@IvanBassist right now I’m running a boss compression pedal the cs-3 but it’s a guitar pedal and probably cutting some of the bass tone out somewhere in the spectrum but it’s getting me by in the meantime till I get a pedal made for the bass. Have you ever tried a cali76 clone by the brand Demonfx by any chance? I just saw it online for $77 looks identical that price sure beats $350 for the real one if the effect quality is good
thanks, would be nice to know what the strings are, and the path. That would be very helpful in understanding this pedal. FX loop? etc. are you using a re-amper etc. etc. - see how these things make a difference? for all I know they could be half-wounds? , or round wounds that are being clamped and coloured by the pedal, is it 9 or 18v? as that makes a difference too. This is meant to be constructive btw. It sounds like you can't get that extreme with it, which is a shame, you know that "crushed" sound. But I can do with with another if I need to add it. Thanks.
Hi, I play without compression . I get a lot of stage fright and can sometimes play unevenly through nerves. Would this unit tone down my mistakes when I am a bit heavy or light handed.? It seems everyone on line loves this unit. A guy in a successful local band told me don’t worry about your kit just buy one of these,he said his whole sound was because of this pedal. So I umming and erring about buying one.
The 1776 style compression is known to add quite a bit of color. In general it “pushes” the sound forward and makes the sound more present in the mix. A lot of people like the Noble + Cali combination, though. Ian Allison is a good example :)
Does the 'out' knob work like a master output volume? In other words, if you hare using a mix of compressed and clean signals (parallel compression) and you turn down the 'out' knob, does it turn down both signals or just the compressed signal? I'm thinking of buying this pedal and the manual is a bit unclear on this point.
The Out controls the volume of the compressed signal only, if i remember correctly. The Dry controls the volume of the unaffected signal. You have to play around with both knobs to set the level that you want
I realy struggle to nearany effect, other then volume, on any of those knobs.i know what compression is meant to do, but i just canthear anything in any review of any pedal.
That intro was pure groove!! Great demo, thanks for sharing! :)
Thanks for making such a GOOD pedal 🙏🏽
Gotta get me one now.
Best review I have seen. can hear the changes. well done thanks
Glad it was helpful!
The best explanation about Attack and release knobs. Thanks
Glad to hear the video helped!

I still need to mount it on my board. Gotta
Check that out
if anyone is curious about the ratios:
4:1 - all the way left
8:1 - 10 o'clock
12:1 - 2 o'clock
20:1 - all the way right
Great review, thank you Ivan!
Thanks for watching, Danny!
Great review brother! Really helpful.
Happy to help! Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed the review.....thank you.
Thanks, Charles!
Great video, thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Great video Ivan
Thanks!
I've got a Cali76 , possibly the best compressor there is.
Steve Tudberry indeed

I love how compress do "nothing" but so much at the same time :) u should check out the empress compressor , it blue which also a plus to me lol :)
The new version of the empress is even cooler, but I like the character of the cali :)
Another gRRRReat review !
Thanks Ivan !!
Thanks! Glad you liked it! :)
Still want to try Okko Coca, but looks like Cali76 kills it. Thanks for great review!
Thanks! Those two are very different compressors, though. What are you looking for? :)

I used to own a super symmetry and it was great. Loved all the features, but I didnt like having to hook it up to a pc to modify some of the settings.

The bass had D’addario nickel EXL and was plugged directly into the pedal. No other effects

I’d work on your dynamics first instead of trying to “patch up” your sound and rely on a pedal
Hi! Is there a big difference between using it with a 9v power supply and 18v?
I haven’t tried. Sorry :(
@@IvanBassist Thanks for replying though!
How much "color" does this compressor add? Coupled with the Noble preamp, would it be overpowering or too much?

I play Sadowski bases and my Noble just came in, so how do you think this will sound with that?
I’m sure it’s gonna sound great!
what do you say about using the compact bass with the guitar?
I haven’t tried it with guitar but there’s no reason why it shouldn’t work :)
IvanBassist i have a good deal for a compact bass and i wanted to see if its ok for guitar
Is this a Skyline or US model Lakland?
Skyline!
Great vid! What are advantages of running it at 18V instead of 9V?
I haven’t tried it, but my guess would be more headroom / less clipping at high input settings
@@IvanBassist thanks!

Did you run this at 9 or 18v for this test?
9v :)
the ratio is the same has the big one it goes from 4 to 20:1 and behind I think at 1/3 it is 8:1 and at 2/3 it is 12:1 ? :/

This pedal likes to distort ,empress is better
