That opening clip was face melting! Holy shit!
Absolutely BADASS 😮
YES! What a funk machine he is!
Hey, Gregor! Thank you for your reviews... you are always so kind and so positive about the stuff you look at (without ignoring the flaws)... you make RUclips a less bitter place!
Thanks for your kind words 🙏
"The original, the UREI 1176, sounds astonishingly natural and beautiful. It grabs your bass by the dynamics, puts it where you want it, and adds a slight low-mid boost." -- Gregor Fris, poet
René's technique on the intro jam is next level
I own the compact model and the black panel preamp from Origin effects and after going through a number of comps and preamps (Darkglass, MXR, Sansamp, EHX Battalion preamps and a few more) and many compressors. The Black Panel pre into the Cali1176 is just perfect for all situation.
My goodness René. There is only so much awesome in the universe, you need to share some with the rest of us 😁🤘
Dude! What an absolute funky beast René is!
This pedal sounds super tight from what I hear.
As always, great improvements and a great eye for detail.
Thanks for the video, always a pleasure to watch.
I've got one of the previous compact series bass Cali76 pedals and I absolutely love it (and I a get alot of positive comments about it from sound engineers and other musicians). This new ones pretty tempting, that LED chain is a massive impovement over the old version. Awesome video as always!
I have the old small version and love it. This one had me at metered display but normal pedal size is an added bonus!
3:11 I've always wondered if there was some kind of alternate universe Gregor that lived in Australia. This is now confirmed.
Great video for a great pedal!
...and I just bought a J Rockett Airchild yesterday!!! DAMN!!!
I bought the old cali76 compact some months ago and it's great but it's also very clean. That's great if you need that clean sound but if you need some texture to your sound the J Rockett Airchild is the one you need. So that's the next one on my wish list
René out here flächsing his haar like it's nothing once again🔥
I’ve used the new version on the road since February and it’s SO GOOD 🔥 Highly recommend!
Hi compressor nerds... Damn right! As a person who owns the Black Finger, Diamond Bass Compressor, Cali76cb and Trace Elliot dualband compressor pedals I have to admit being a bit of a compression nerd indeed. Very nice that Origin Effects touched up their already fantastic bass compressor and added the led indicator. I have used the Cali for a long time but ever since acquiring one of the original Diamond bass comps two months ago I have switched over to the yellow side. The diamond adds a touch of warmth to my lower mids which makes the tone work fantastic with somewhat colder/modern sounding instruments like the Warwick SS2 or Zon Sonus. Thanks for the great video the playing is monstrous in there.
So smooth ❤❤❤❤
Hoooo boy this is tempting. Love my Keeley limiting amp but this is sick
Rene was really killin" it in this video. Compressor sounds good but I'm not sure I trust myself with that many controls to dial in.
It’s super easy to setup and then you’ll never need to touch them again apart from the input when switching to a louder bass
RENE THEMS BASS'S ARE AWESOME
Great review
My dream come true!
I prefer the previous brick before this which is what I have. This one does not sound as ras as its predecessors. Nice review thought. 😮
What a great review
♥️♥️♥️
With absolutely zero negativity for those using the Cali76 Bass compressor: the Empress Bass Compressor > the Cali76 Bass Compressor. The only thing you lose is infinitely variable ratio, but you gain separate attack and release controls, switchable EQ with/without added saturation and a sidechain input that you can mic a kick drum (or anything else) for compression triggering. It is hands down the best and most versatile compressor I have ever used.
Try this one here before you judge
@@basstheworldofficial and this is my problem. I'm more in slap and funk/jazz rock (but I have a prog/nu-metal band) and I have only the one knob compressor on my Tech 21 Bass Fly RIg v2 (I have one knob comp on my Darkglass Microtubes X Ultra to, but one knob comp is to limited). I want a fat compressed tone for slapping on my two Stingrays HH 5s and two Sandbergs (VT 2 HH and Ida signature) and I don't know what to chose between Empress and Cali76.
I bought the old one some months ago, the one without the gain reduction leds
still a great pedal
da tabs for the opening bass line? Where?
How does this compare to the Diamond Bass Comp/EQ?
Welp now i have to trade in my compact bass
At this point, I'm convinced that René is physically and mentally incapable of playing anything that isn't deeply groovy. What a musician!
It sounds much different than the first version, it has a more round sound but I believe it lost its bite, I am not sure, maybe next reviews will show that better.
A condensed compressor... nice
Looking at replacing my current comp pedal, this might be the one.
Hey, I was just wondering if this pedal was more of a neutral transparent compressor like the Empress bass compressor or a vintage, tone enhancing pedal like its predecessors with that low mid boost. I am looking for a transparent, versatile compressor , so would you recommend the cali or the empress. Love your videos and the playing rocks!!!
This is even fatter sounding than the predecessors. But you don’t have to push it hard, then it’s just subtly doing its thing.
@@basstheworldofficial Thank you so much for responding! So does it noticeably change the frequencies of the bass for mojo or does it leave it alone and just compress like the Empress?
It’s not like the Empress. If you want a compressor to just do its thing without changing the tone at all, the Empress remains the best choice
Hey Gregor
Which do you prefer more the Empress MKII or this new Cali76 version?
Both. If you want to cover all ranges, you want both. But to be serious, I’m an 1176 guy. The Cali76 is the one I’d put on my board if I needed a compressor
I already have an empress compressor... How do you set up 2 compressors ? I heard that is more natural and more subtle
The first - shorter attack and release, higher threshold, higher compression rate.
The second - longer attack and release, lower threshold, lower compression rate.
Also generally you would like to use a lower compression rate on each of those compared to the one you'd use on a single compressor, if you want to have the same total gain reduction. Or alternatively you can have a higher total gain reduction than you would get with a single compressor, while still sounding more natural.
How about vs the MXR compressor?
Not a fan of the MXT at all. It's very thin.
Where do you put the compressor in the signal chain?
Depends on your setup. I like it early in the chain, but behind Fuzzes, Envelope Filters and Drives that rely on your dynamics
@@basstheworldofficial thank you!
Comp on your pedalboard, first or last in the chain? Just curious
it can go anywhere, but if you have drives or an envelope filter that rely on your dynamics, it should go after those
@@basstheworldofficial thank you for the response! Love your channel!
Both
Run this early in chain to get some tone and run la2a type last as a soft limiter and final gain level tool
1176 v la2a
I use both
How is it compared to the double stacked?
in my opinion it sounds much better than all the previous compact series pedals
@@basstheworldofficialWowww impressive
Well, I guess it's time to break the piggy bank.
Nice review! However, you could review a potato and I would still watch the video as long as Frank og Rene was in it. Love those guys!
354 €. The business of pedals effect is just crazy expensive these days.... A steel box, a switch, a minimum of innovation to tag the product as " new "......
and 3 colors :-) I doubt we can hear the difference with the first version
The 9v operation somehow upscales to 24v internally… that’s pretty innovative and unique. That’s creates an insane amount of headroom. The cali76 is easily the best comp I’ve ever played in pedal format
They have to pay this guy and all the other "honest review channels" . Guess what, it's you who pay them if you take the bait.
🥵🥵🥵
Aaaah, I JUST bought the old compact bass for almost the exact same price from Thomann (37 days ago) DOH! Ich könnte kotzen.
send it back to Thomann
Anyone know what bass he is playing in the beginning? 0:22
this one: ruclips.net/video/MYqc2e7DAJU/видео.html
Excellent, I just bought one of these pedals and now I’m going to rip off your settings!
This boy looks like Dagestan priest... Get scared everytime I see him in recommendations)
but i just bought an empress 🙄
You're not sorry ;)
I’m sorry for your partners 😉
Nearly every one of these RUclips channels have become PAID commercials. How sad.
Sell guitar pro files for the bass bits. Make money
Like so many pedals, absurdly overpriced.
