@@Shadowman-1960 They are all excellent, but the one I prefer at the moment is the Cali76 FET as it is easier to read how much compression I'm using...I like a little compression so just the first two maybe three light indicators...I hope that was of use to you.
@@hekakain4108Thank you, it helped a lot. I'm wanting to buy a compressor and keep thinking that if Origin says the FET is an upgrade from the Compact Deluxe then it must be, but then I've read reviews from a few people that say they prefer the Compact Deluxe because the FET sounds thin since it has more treble and is missing the Compact Deluxe's mid range boost, which makes my choice confusing. Also Johnny Hiland used to say before the FET had come out that the Compact Deluxe was his favorite compressor but now he says the Keely Compressor Plus is his favorite and it's on his pedal board, which got me thinking maybe he is just saying that because Keeley might be sponsoring him. Any of your thoughts on my comments and these issues would be really appreciated. 🗻
I love Origin Effects stuff. I have the Cali76 stacked edition. I leave it on most of the time. Edge of breakup is my "home base" sound, and having the Cali76 compression blended in makes it sound fantastic as well as feeling great under the fingers. I usually blend in a good amount of dry signal, unless I'm going for obvious squish! I wonder if they'll come out with a stacked edition of this FET version? I'd buy that, for sure! This pedal sounds amazing.
Man i want this pedal! Im using the Empress Compressor MkII on my guitar board. Its a wonderful compressor. I love how transparent it is to use on subtle compression just to bring out the pick attack a little bit and give my guitar a slight volume boost which makes my tone sound a bit fuller. I dont really like to squash my tone. It works really well for how i like to use compression as an always on effect. On my bass board i have a Cali76 Compact Bass and that thing is my favorite compressor pedal i have ever bought. Origin's build quality is so impressive. Theres weight to the pedal, it feels indestructible, and the pots have the perfect amount of physical resistance to its feel. Plus it looks so classy and elegant. the tone it has is just heavenly. Its not as transparent in my opinion, but it leaves such an amazing warmth and character to its tone that it has me wanting to try the normal version in place of my Empress on my guitar board. Now that Origin released their updated version i am sold.
That's some great news! I always had the impression that the compact deluxe didn't sound quite as good as the (discontinued) three-knob version, so I definitely wanna give this one a try.
Awesome video,. Pete! Thanks for what you do. Any chance you could compare it to both the original compact and the big box FET? Would love to hear how they stack up because I could use a second compressor.
The only compressor pedal close is the effectrode PC-2a….in fact I think it’s better. Original effects makes THE BEST stuff. My board has the cali76 stacked, the m-we driver, halcyon green, halcyon gold,…the the revival drive compact….(that’s the best pedal I’ve ever used)….good stuff!
I love your videos Pete! Have you ever tried the Boss CP-1X Compressor?! It’s supposed to be a real underrated sleeper! Would love your thoughts on this pedal please 🙏
Hey Pete, how about a video on how to use modulation, chord modulation is real useful, and I think you master it quit well, so how about a little teaching on the subject? ☺️ (montreal music snob)
I can't fault it. I have bought sold a comp about every year since 2014. I lost a lot of money as I was buying everyone's latest 'miracle'. The only thing I feel can match the 76 for quality of sound is the very recent J. Rockett Airchild Sixty Six. It is a take on another classic. The 50's Fairchild 66. You should compare them if for no other reason that the Airchild is about $100 cheaper. Both use FET's so you do get that sweet tube like vibe from either.
The original bigger pedals had some actual transformer magic going on - wish I never sold mine - no way they're gonna reproduce that "sound" cutting corners in such a small package
Hang on. Let me get this straight. The company claims the new compressor has been redesigned to sound as good as their original discontinued model that's now reached an asking price on reverb of $1000-$2000. You remind us that you have the original model, don't say directly that you agree or disagree that it matches the big box's sound, and didn't compare the two side by side despite telling us they're in the same room. Maybe I should insert the corkboard conspiracy Charlie meme here, but it seems like a line is being towed in this demo.
@@PeteThorn I don't think your video was nefarious. In my book you have a set of golden ears, Pete. There have been a lot of instances when I have played a piece of gear myself, and thought a certain way about it only to hear my experience confirmed in exacting detail by your commentary on that thing. That said, I trust your opinions on this stuff. It's just that I have a keen awareness to the incentives that you have to operate under as a RUclipsr who is reliant on these companies for gear to review. I do think that a direct A/B is necessary if it is implied that this new pedal has been retooled to sound as good as the old ones. When I didn't see that in this video, and you didn't implicitly say you agreed it sounded the same it came off sus. Hope my words haven't upset you.
@@bardsamok9221 not really... My friend's a recording engineer... I've seen it all, and he has MOST of it... I'm talking about "regular people", using a compressor for gigging out, playing clubs and such... It's just TOO MUCH MONEY! At least, for something that doesn't have a signature sound with it, like a particular distortion pedal or booster pedal, or chorus pedal... The list goes on... I paid three and $400 for Greg fryer treble boosters before... BUT ... THEY have a VERY SPECIFIC tone to them... A compressor, generally speaking, will NOT... There are subtle differences, but NONE of them will be " life-changing " for your sound! Unless, of course, you think that eating is highly overrated!
I like UA products but I don't like them per se... I don't think that they take care of their products after the sale I think that I don't have an update for any of the stuff that I've bought the 65 the Ruby I think the connectivity is a terrible issue hyphen I think everyone knows what I mean when you go to use your PC your tablet or your phone and you want to change the parameters and you've lost connection it sucks. so when they put out a new product like a compressor or an improvement or something I'm leery that's all I can say I think they're a great company I just think that they need to have a better plan on supporting the stuff that they do sell and for that I am completely and utterly disappointed
I hate to be a buzz kill, but this has to be the worst review I've ever listened to. Other than when you played the bass, you had non stop effects making if difficult to hear the compressor without the other bs covering up the sound. You know better.
Your video on the original Cali76 led me to buy the old one years ago and I still use it to this day! Thank you for the videos!
Pete knows what he’s doing with these demos. Classy player. Classy demos.
Thank you!
Would be interesting to compare that to the new Wampler Ego 76.
100%
Hey Pete, that was a great composition. You always come up with something fresh that compliments the pedal.
Thanks!
SOLD! I have been waiting for a compact version of the big box fet. Really nice tones coming out of your rig as always.
Great tones and lovely playing, Pete.
Thanks so much!
That looks awesome!

Just from the first chord you played, it sounded awesome! Instant Andy Summers
YES IT IS. the compact dlx OG and Slide Rig have been a lock as first 2 spots on my board since 2016.
Thanks Pete, enjoyed the video. 3:52 was a Jamie West-Oram moment for me🔥
Liking and commenting on compressor video only for Pete’s sake. Wonderful playing as usual.

Hey Pete ! When will you do a new album ? You have so much talent !
Awesome Pete, thanks a lot!
Nice one, Pete. Thanks! I dig the blue Suhr. Cheers!
Thanks!
Great demo. Pedal sounds awesome.
Thanks!
When can you tell us about the secret piece of gear with the Fendery sound?
Wondering this myself. Could it be the new origin effects tweed in a box?
For those of us with the existing Cali version, what I really want to know is how it compares.
Origin Effects for the win!
01:01 no toggle switch?!

This would pair well with the Friedman IR-D Preamp
How is the noise level compared to other OE compressors and compressors in general?

You really need to try the Aussie Mozztronics CO-2. It IS the best compressor pedal by a long margin.
Anyone notice a huge difference between the CD and the FET versions of this pedal?
can you compare with cali 76 deluxe?
Always wanted a big box but I'm not paying $900 and up for one. Smart move by Origin.
the tone sounded really good for a second before the compressor was on, then it got more snappier!
This pedal is a bit noisy but produces a very high end sound...close to a 1176.
The Wampler Ego76 is much better for half the price!
Hairstyle makes you look like Ace Frehley at moments
So we're still doing that thing where we try to invalidate everything somebody does by superficially comparing the way they look to somebody else?
The original bigger pedals had some actual transformer magic going on - wish I never sold mine - no way they're gonna reproduce that "sound" cutting corners in such a small package
Title fail, you missed the rhyme
Thanks Pete. I hate to admit it, but I cannot “hear” what a compressor does to a guitar’s tone. And I’ve tried….many times….
