Caster Semenya: I have high testosterone, so what?

- Опубликовано: 13 авг 2019
- The double Olympic champion Caster Semenya's battle with the athletics authorities rolls on as she continues to fight an IAAF regulation that would make her take testosterone-lowering medication. The South African athlete will not be able to defend her 800-metres title in September after the Swiss Federal Tribunal reversed a ruling that temporarily lifted testosterone regulations imposed against her. Speaking at a press conference in Johannesburg the 28-year-old said that 'when you're the best in the world, people get obsessed'.

Caster Semenya blocked from competing at world championship ► www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/jul/30/caster-semenya-blocked-defending-800-metres-title-athletics-world-championships
Let's think about this. Since the qualification to compete against females is one's testosterone level, then it should not matter what one identifies as.
I just heard about her. She should take the hormone-blocking therapy and not be selfish.
My issue is if she is banned from competing then so should LAUREL HUBBARD. They both have an unfair advantage when competing with women.
caster semenya, francine niyonsaba, and margaret wambui are not banned from competing in 800m as long as they take female hormones, but they refused. laurel hubbard takes female hormones. so that's the difference why one is banned and the other is allowed. in my opinion all xy chromosome athletes whether they are intersex or transgender (male to female) should compete together in their own separate category, or compete with the men, and absolutely not compete with biological women.
@@minavamp2811 ok but you don’t have to excuse that fuckery tho
I don’t like how they banned her because she is still a woman you are asking her to change herself to compete there is a man trans to woman who can compete so y can’t her that’s unfair
Two different sports. Two different governing bodies.
Don't disagree. Both should be restricted from competing as women. They are different organizations though.
This high testosterone is unfair to other female competitors. Her condition is not her fault, but it's still unfair in a competitive setting against female athletes.
He is a transgander
@@spaceshido6124 «Transgander» is not a word.
@@marclacasse1 yes i know i'm not dumb transgender is a human
@@spaceshido6124 I don't think she's transgender. She has a development condition where the testicules have not developed properly, are functional and inside her abdomen. That's why she's had a male puberty and male levels of testosterone in her blood. She's dishonest because she's hiding her medical file so people will still think she's a real woman.
If they can allow a transgender woman to compete in the Olympics, they should let her run. Not her fault her testosterone is naturally high.
He doesn’t even look or sound like a woman.
He has XY chromosomes, high testosterone levels, and no uterus.
So yes. He’s a man.
She is intersex. That means instead of having XX chromosomes she has XXY. That white chromosome is extra. But still at all, women’s normal testosterone levels are between 15 and 70. Men’s normal testosterone levels are 1,000 and up. She literally has 14 or more times the testosterone as a normal woman. And since testosterone is the gene, responsible for strength and speed, that becomes a problem when you’re a track athlete. No woman will ever win against you. Now because of training. Not because of technique. Not because of skill. But purely because of the hormone that gives you more strength. The fact that she is acting like it’s nothing as a problem.
A uterus doesn't make you a women.
She was assigned female at birth. It's not her fault the doctor messed up.
@@newjerseylion4804 Not her fault. But the fact that it is not her fault that the doctor messed up doesn’t mean that she should be allowed to compete as a woman when she has male chromosomes that put her at a tremendous Physical advantage over other women
How people are calling him a her and pretending like he's not a him is mind blowing. People really go great lengths just to be seen
She’s intersex so not the same
Happy to call her what ever she wants to be called only polite.
However, she's genetically a male and should only compete in the male categories. All her previous golds should be redistributed to those in silver place.
@@shineonyoucrazydiamond824 *he
@@shineonyoucrazydiamond824 Caster does have an intersex condition however, genetically Caster is a male and doesn’t belong in female sports.
😮😮 It right. By people constantly acting like they don’t see what they see is why the world is so messed up right now.
These people are willfully ignorant of the advantages these athletes have. There is a reason men and women do not compete in certain fields.
It's completely arbitrary, you realize that right? Like sports and records don't actually have any bearing or meaning in the real world. We just made it all up, there's no reason a 100m can't be 110m or 90m or something.
@@RikerLovesWorf I don't understand what your point is. The decision to separate male and female competitors wasn't an arbitrary decision like the length of a race. It was a decision made to keep the race fair and honest. Of course the records you make in sport have a bearing in the real world. Usain Bolt IS the FASTEST sprinter in the world. Tiger Woods did have one of the most dominant golfing winning spree's. Muhammed Ali was the greatest heavyweight boxer of his generation. It might not have any bearing on you, but these records inspire and motivate others.
@@RikerLovesWorf Hilarious how Marcus is quick to comment on how "arbitrary" the rules are to sporting events. What is arbitrary is the bizarre mental construction you have that makes you believe men can be women or vice versa.
She is intersex, not transgender
@@resegonchupetsang3268 I never claimed she was transgender. What I said is that she has an unfair advantage because she was born heterogametic (X and Y chromosomes) which caused her body to produce much, much more testosterone and less estrogen. Her hormonal makeup is completely different from any other woman competitor.
What does this person mean “so what?” . Fact is it is not fair to the other competitors. If the shoe was on the other foot you would be singing a different tune.
You are very ignorant. Caster did the work they needed to do to get where they needed to go. They didn't take drugs like most of the Russian professional athletes. I find it crazy that as a female you would try to dictate control over someone's body. Their body naturally has higher testosterone. Everyone has both hormones some people just have higher. Since you are so concerned with making things fair then every professional athlete must under go genetic testing including males. And if they find that a male has higher estrogens level they must not compete with men if we are following your logic. I also find it funny that she and other African athletes were singled out by white athlete that are genetic inferior in track and field because they ain't win.

A man.
So what ?? You're a biological male with Y chromosomes ... you have a massive advantage over women's athletes .. your high testosterone through puberty allowed you to gain more muscle mass, higher bone density, strength and endurance that will not disappear with a post-puberty reduction in testosterone..
The fact you and the 2 other Y chromosome competitors in the women's 800m at Rio swept the medals is all you need to know ..
A third category is the only fair solution..
Uh dog from my knowlage shes biologily female
Also if a trans mtf athlete has taken estrogen long enough there mucle mass decreases to normal femel levels
@@bigboi6278 that does not negate all the years of testosterone from birth through puberty where you have a massive advantage with increased bone density, stamina muscle mass, etc ... this does not go away with ADT (androgen deprivation therapy) that reduces testosterone levels ...

I find the solution of taking testosterone lowering medication completely insufficient. Castor will still have the advantages of lifelong male testosterone levels as well as male muscle and build.
Well acttaly it would affect her mucle mass and tesoterone levels. For example many ftm athletes gain the same mucle mass as men depending how long theyve been on testoterone same for mtf they will lose mucle mass when on estorgine
That’s cause he’s a male.
@@bigboi6278 I didn't argue that. If testosterone were the great equalizer... you'd see women taking massive testosterone that can equal men's physical strength... they don't come close in any situation.
So you have to compete with man.
So then let’s talk about Ms Lia Thomas shall we ? Or Fallon fox? 💯 let’s keep it real if this woman can’t compete neither should trans woman
it’s a bit more complicated than that because trans women typically don’t have naturally high testosterone!

Remember the Press Sisters
It is a muscle growth and strength advantage unless treated before puberty. The percentage of these athletes is small, yet drawing attention and must be addressed. What if women started injecting testosterone to be equal to this athlete? It is wiser to create a new lane than to disrupt the entire system. So, create a new lane for these athletes to compete against each other. What would this be called though? We have Special Olympics already. Could it be called Their Olympics? Maybe. I hope that this system evolves. This is a real topic that will play out over the next two or three Olympic Game Committee discussions.

Consider that in 1912 the fastest time for the male 800 meter sprint was 1:51.09, whereas Caster Semenya's PR is 1:54.25. The point is that Caster Semenya would not even be the fastest male at the local high school.

You also have XY chromosomes, which confers many of the athletic advantages of being phenotypically male. I keep hearing trans advocates argue that there is no competitive advantage to being trans versus biological. So it would seem the solution is simple. There should be one category for those people who are phenotypically female and feel that it is unfair to have to compete against those with male phenotype advantages, and another "open" category for everyone else. That should satisfy trans advocates who argue there is no significant competitive advantage among genders.
