  • Caster Semenya breaks her silence as the IAAF drags her to court.
    As you know, the Athletics Federation wants our star runner to take hormone pills to lower her testosterone levels.
    Semenya is fighting that decision but hasn't spoken about it publicly.
    Throughout her career, she's faced scrutiny about gender.
    But her outlook will inspire you.
    eNCA's Lindiwe Sithole spoke to Semenya.

    This is a really tough one, and I feel bad for Caster. But the only reason the women’s category exists is because women have a biological disadvantage from men in sports. And she has a very rare condition that gives her all the biological advantages of a male athlete. For someone who doesn’t care much about sports it’s easy to say, just let her compete, but for the pro athletes that trained their whole lives and whose financial livelihood is on the line, it’s not so easy to just say ya, let her compete, we’ll all just settle for a lower placing. And what about when it comes to contact sports, someone with this condition could seriously injure other female athletes.

    • @august7535
      @august7535 Год назад

      Wrong, the only reason women's sports exist in the first place was because when women first started playing in sports, there were several categories where they were beating men and so they took it upon themselves to force women into separate category because the idea of a woman beating a man in sports was unthinkable. That's why women athletes of all the major sports organizations deal with underfunded, underdeveloped, and undervalued industries.
      They tried to separate black women in general competing against white women in sports for the very same ignorant reasons.
      You claim that these people who has a condition that 'benefits' them could be dangerous. Mate, every athlete have genetic differences between each other. Some of them are massively superior in terms of a number of factors. Take for instance Mike Tyson. You put anyone in the ring with him, man or woman, and they can get hospitalized. Not all sports are based off of strength. We need to completely dismantle sports and rebuild it into ways that all the different categories can be structured in ways that rely on the actual genetic factors that influence that specific sport. That way we aren't discriminating against anyone, man or woman, cis or trans.

That doesn’t mean she also has ovaries… Lots of babies are born with some kind of deformity or only one kidney or 2 wombs or something like that - it doesn’t change what’s in their DNA. This person has a male body and male DNA, regardless of intersex genitalia deformity - this person is therefore male but raised as female.

      Biology as you know is the study of life; the fundamental concept is reproduction. “Biologically,” your sex is based off of your reproductive system. The type of chromosomes your born with don’t decide your sex, that’s just a simplified explanation of genetic coding they teach you in 7th grade. There is a gene known as SOX9, if you have XY chromosomes and have low levels of SOX9 the Y gene will not effect the sex making a baby born with a vagina, thus biologically a female.
      Also, the IAAF determines sex based off testosterone levels not chromosome levels. You could have a penis, XY chromosomes and still preform in the female events if you have naturally low levels of testosterone.

      @thatnativeking1333 3 года назад +1

      Michael Anderson, “People try to pander to one exception and ignore how it affects the majority.”
      Okay then let’s give the IAAF test as the universal standard. According to the IAAF, Caster has extremely high testosterone levels for a female, she’s slightly above 5 nmol/L. The average male has testosterone of about 8 5nmol/L with athletes being around 11 nmol/L. According to IAAF regulations, a male can benefit for x amount of years of having 11 nmol/L, take testosterone lowering pills, and be considered a female, without even having a sex change. Would you consider that fair? The IOC declared it fair, despite that being a major advantage.
      And if testosterone levels are the determining factor, why aren’t men’s testosterone levels capped? I’m a huge fan of Usain Bolt. He probably has testosterone levels around 14nmol/L, while his compitetion has testosterone of around 11nmol/L. He has an unfair advantage among every other male and we celebrated him. Same thing with Michael Phelps. It wasn’t fair to any of their competition should we have demanded them to take testosterone lowing substances? The answer is hell no. Their greatness was earned.
      To say that the IOC is right, would mean that our male athletes would need a testosterone cap as well, and that trans-female athletes don’t have an unfair advantage to their field of competition. Would you advocate for that? I sure as hell won’t.

      it's most common to fall on one side or the other side of the physical sex spectrum. all-male or all-female sexual characteristics. however, this woman is intersex, so, like all biologically intersex people, she was born with a mix of male and female sex characteristics.

      2. Create an alternative league just for women with higher testorenoe levels and put Caster and women like her in that league : naturally high testosterone producing cis women or trans women.

    Caster Semenya is a great woman. She was born with high testosterone than estrogen. That's why she looks more masculine than a woman. However, you can see her shoulder and facial frame, and wider hips are still look like a woman. There are so many people just take a quick look at her physical appearance and they think she looks like a man, but she is not. She is 100% biological woman. She and Brittney Griner who played for Baylor have high testosterone hormones level in them. That's why they look more masculine. People who criticized Caster Semenya or label her as a man were not understand that much about human anatomy and physiology. Caster Semenya is a nice woman. At least she did something positive contribute to her country.

    • @AntiWoke_Autistic
      @AntiWoke_Autistic 4 года назад +10

      You are extremely misinformed. Caster's genotype (do you even know what that is???) is XY. That's the genotype for male. For female it's XX. Again, Caster's is XY. This is male. As for anatomy, she has NO uterus, NO ovaries, but HAS internal testes, which are male organs. The absence of a penis does not make Caster a female. Her birth certificate says "girl" because when she was born, she looked like a girl because of no penis. Since doctors don't give newborn babies ultrasounds to view their insides, they can only declare the sex of a baby based on what's "down there." on the outside. As for Brittney, if she menstruates, this means she has female reproductive organs, so she'd be female. Her face looks female as well. She also looked female as a child, unlike Caster. But still, one has to wonder if Brittney is intersex, since her voice makes Bea Arthur's sound like Sandy Duncan's, and she has no breasts and such broad shoulders and super long arms relative to her height.

    In women referred to as “46 XY DSD” - the most common intersex condition among female athletes - the presence of a Y chromosome causes the development of testes. These do not descend from the abdomen but do produce testosterone. However the receptors for testosterone are abnormal, with the result that the individual develops as female with a vagina, but no ovaries or uterus. Circulating testosterone may have no biological effect in the case of complete androgen insensitivity syndrome (AIS), or some effect in partial AIS.
