As a woman with masculine features myself, I find it very insulting and disrespectful when suggest I might be a man, have a penis, look like a man, or should attempt to become one. I’m not a man and I identify with my womanhood strongly. She appears masculine, but I can see feminine qualities in her face. If the intention was cruelty, it shows.
She actually is an XY DSD. She doesn't "have masculine features" as some sort of superficial anomaly. She had male puberty. She has 5 alpha reductase deficiency disorder. If you think she doesn't, please go change her wikipedia page and explain why the IAAF ruling which barred her competing applies to her when it explicitly only applies to XY athletes. Please....go ahead.
@@mastpgbut she was born a woman. She was not born with a penis. It was not her choice. It’s different if she took drugs but she did not cheat. She did not Choose to be born that way. She was born with a vagina which is female. She is different yes but it’s wrong the way she has been treated and insulting her and embarrassing her and her family. Sad world honestly.
@@mastpg so if a woman has that condition, but isn't a "trans woman", and has the athletic ability, what do they do? It must be a small category, and it doesn't mean they can compete as a man, so what is the solution? It seems like a waste of ability not to be allowed to compete at a high level.
@@craftsandstuff3349I honestly don’t know what the solution is.
We need to be honest: she has the physical abilities of a man. I don’t know if you remember maybe 10 years ago, there was that trans female fighter who was beating the ever living crap out of every other female fighter. Forgot her name. One fight was so bad, the fans were begging the ref to stop it. It was actually hard to watch. It wasn’t a fight, it was an assault. Yes, I get it, Caster isn’t trans. But clearly she has a lot of male genetic traits and has an advantage no woman will be able to overcome. When you see her in her running outfit, physically, she’s a man.
Now, did she break any rules? No. Is she a woman? Yes. I honestly don’t know what the answer is. But having her compete against other women would be no different than having a man compete against women. It upends the sport when she comes in and sets records no woman would ever touch in 100 years. It’s a situation that requires a lot of thought.
People actually recommended that you become a man because of your features? That’s crazy, I’m sorry you went through that.

I think sometimes things just need to be cleared up. I completely understand how anyone could or would ask for more genetic information from Caster. She is different, and testosterone does help to build muscle, which can increase muscle strength and make a person stronger. I'm just glad her condition is better understood.
In my mind, it violates HIPPA to test a patient without their consent. And release their blood test information to the media. These Olympic doctors are scary.
I think it's interesting that this woman has naturally more testosterone than the average woman which in turn gives her all of the advantages that you've mentioned thereby putting all other women at a disadvantage (supposedly) but no one blinks an eye when a man might produce more testosterone than another man thereby giving him the same advantages because a biological advantage in men''s sport is something to be celebrated.

@lindsa6911
1. Do you think male and female sports categories should exist?
2. If so, how should they be delineated? What do you think makes someone male (whether they have a difference of sexual development/DSD or not) and what do you think makes someone female? In other words, what do the words male and female mean to you at a technical, biological level?
3. In your mind does there exist any DSD that could be disqualifying, or do you think no DSD is significant where athletic performance is concerned?
@lindsa6911 Yeah you wouldn't be saying this if your daughter was racing her.
@@lindsa6911LMAO!! can't believe you just said that BS.
Every athlete who is competing against me is not fair as I am not athletic at all. What does this even mean “not fair “? Life is not fair, certain people have certain advantages. She was born with more testosterone, some are born with bigger muscle mass, some are born smarter than others. She’s a biological woman, she isn’t cheating in any way, she should be able to compete as she is. Should we also reduce high IQ of certain geniuses because it’s unfair advantage and they are competing against average people? I lived in communist regime where only average was accepted. Trust me, it’s an awful system.
Caster Semenya did not “cheat” on purpose. Caster has a very rare intersex condition called 5α-Reductase 2 deficiency which only affects genetic males. Individuals with this condition have normal male internal organs that are not fully masculinized during embryo development. When they are born their external genitalia can appear ambiguous or female. During male puberty the external genitalia may stay the same or start to take on more male characteristics.
It is so unfortunate that she had to find out about herself on the world stage. Babies with 5a-Reductase 2 deficiency are raised as girls because they look like girls. It is not until puberty that things become more clear.
Very interesting stuff, and I do agree it was unfortunate for this person to find out publicly, but with that said... why are we celebrating her "victories" when, technically, all the other female athletes have been robbed? This is akin to these so-called transformed wanting to compete against natural born females. The only measure fairness here would be if these type of athletes would be grouped and made to compete amongst themselves. The same goes for the trans athletes. I bet they won't do it.
THIS!! This is the most accurate and kindest explanation I've seen regarding Semenya. Why can't the news anchors have said as much. They've treated Semenya's case as very ambiguous by leaving out science and that was an editorial choice that has left the public confused and upset. Journalistic ethics and integrity require reporting the facts (one would hope and expect the SCIENTIFIC facts) rather than sentiment. We should have conpassion for Semenya, but also be clear that Semenya is male, not a "woman who appears masculine" or other confusing nonsense. We can be polite without lying or obfuscating reality.
So sorry she had to deal with this. Much success to you Caster, win big.

Indeed! She was winning a lot though. I think the American will break the record in the 800m category
I'm so done with the world today! I'm so disheartened and disappointed 😢
Please explain how the following description make a person 100% female??
"Semenya has the intersex condition 5α-Reductase 2 deficiency, which only affects genetic males. Individuals with this condition have normal male internal structures that are not fully masculinized during the embryo's development, resulting in external genitalia that appear ambiguous at birth." (Based on this description, I can see why there was such a great debate whether or not it's appropriate/fair for Semenya to compete against 100% biilogically designed women.
Agreed. Clearly, there was something distinctly different about Caster, and that difference (extra testosterone) gave her an advantage over bio women without that advantage. I'm sorry for what she went through, but I do understand that the officials were trying to make it fair for all.

It's not her fault that she was born that way, but since she has had the benefit of male puberty this gives her advantage even if she takes female hormones.
Him
What you mean born a man?
1. she did not go through male puberty, with hypergonadism puberty is disrupted. 2. if she chose to take female hormones (she did in the past and she had adverse side affects) and she did go through male puberty, she would not have ‘the benefit of male puberty’ because the female hormones outweigh the male ones. this would mean reduced muscle mass, among other things.

Having female genitalia doesn't remove that male advantage. In fact, Caster has male genitalia as well, is married to a woman and has fathered two children with her.

Caster to the world!! Definitely have to get the book.
Caster says something important in the book and interview. She is gifted at birth with an advantage. And that she should not be penalized for it. She meets all of the criteria to compete. BUT it is obvious that she may or may not have a real advantage in the current field. We will never know if our current fastest competitors could beat her because Caster was banned from the sport.
She was not banned, but told to undergo processes to make her less masculine which I believe she turned down ( and rightly so) because of the medical and long-lasting implications that would bring. That decision meant she couldn't meet the requirements to race.
I won't say she or her just yet. I will say I heard this individual has children. If he/she is the biological MOTHER, then yes, SHE is an amazing Gold Medalist. If he/she is the biological FATHER then this is a man. Sorry, not sorry.

This is a human being with feelings just like anyone else and we all thought that she resembled a man because of her features back then and then we found out that she was born with a rare special condition. Unlike the other wannabes, she was actually born this way and her situation was not very popular because it’s not something you hear about very often and this reminds me of HIV/aids years ago in how it was mishandled which lead to more outbreaks or spreading of the disease compared to now and how things have changed and these things happen because people are insensitive, alarmed and just plain evil so it’s a mixture of a bunch of different reasons. Many were thinking that she might have an unfair advantage over the other women but she was born that way so what do you do?
There are lots of women who are born with high testosterone levels, you just don't know because all of them are not involved in sports., just like some men are born with high estrogen levels. That's the Lord work.
You accept that she was misassigned at birth? You accept that an anomalously classified XY athlete who underwent male puberty and maintains male-typical hormone levels shouldn't be admitted to the women's division when no trans woman would be without hormone therapy? I mean...you could do that.
Special category? For each sport there would be very few women with this condition, so creating a special group would not be an option.
