That's not saying much. Melle Mel is one of the most important names in the history of hip hop, and there is nothing Eminem can say or do that will change that. Eminem is important, but he didn't help lay the foundation for hip hop. Melle Mel did. And honestly, Melle Mel, in my opinion, has made some of the best hip hop music of all time. His Eminem diss was terrible, but his 80's and 90's music is amazing. Despite the awful lyrics in his Eminem diss, he has written some of the greatest hip hop lyrics. Beat Street is in a league of its own.

If Eminem never sold an album, he'd still be equally as talented, and if he had the same people producing for him, the music would also be the same quality. Most top lists, even the ones that include ten rappers or even twenty, consist of black rappers almost exclusively. That's one thing I don't understand about the argument about his skin color. Most best selling rappers, and most critically acclaimed rappers, are black... So wouldn't it be more beneficial to be a black person in hip hop? The black rappers tend to be the most successful. It's not as if Eminem is the only non-black rapper either. There are plenty of non-black rappers in the world, but its the black rappers that tend to top the charts and do all the numbers. Eminem is a rare exception.
