    Great video, helped me so much. . . .Im struggling to find info on LOG3 vs LOG, which colours pace to choose then which LUT to use . . . if you have any info on that would be great to hear.

    • @JasonPischke
      @JasonPischke  2 года назад +1

      Absolutely, what I have found, CLog has less noise in the shadows compared to CLog3. If you are shooting something that needs a lot of dynamic range, like shooting a city at night where you have bright highlights set against dark buildings, CLog3 is the way to go. Other than those extreme scenarios, 99% of the time CLog is perfectly capable and easier to grade. I have created my own LUTs to use, but a good starting point is the Canon official LUTs on their website, I don't believe they have them for the R6, so I would download them from the C70's support page. I shoot in the BT.709 color space, BT.2020 is much larger and has more color info, but is harder to grade for really doesn't provide much benefit since most monitors are calibrated for Rec.709. I hope that helps!!

    What is CLog3? I am new to videography, is there more numbers, and what do the others do?

    • @JasonPischke

      I actually just posted a video on this topic yesterday. If you go to my channel and look at the most recent video, it breaks down the different log profiles and color spaces and why you might use one over the other! Hope that helps, thank you for watching!!

    I have an R6 a short time and doing tests, photo and video, when it reaches 1" or less appears the message Busy, the memories are of good capacity, the ISO settings off, I did the test in 7D II and does not appear the message, it may be some wrong configuration.

      hmmm, I am trying to understand the problem a little better. Are you saying when the shutter speed is less than 1 second it won't allow you to shoot?

    Hello mr Jason, i have Canon r6 camera, can you help me, please, when i shooting 120 fps full hd, my bitrate its to low around 28mbs and move is lookin so bad,how can i resolve this problem, many thanks

    • @JasonPischke
      @JasonPischke  Год назад

      Sure thing, so that thing about the R6 is it will record in 8bit by default. By switching to CLog, Clog3 or HLG, that will switch the camera into 10bit mode and will record with a higher bit rate. The 8bit image out of the R6 is not super great and falls apart fast, I would always recommend shooting in a log format. Hope that helps!!

    • @JasonPischke
      @JasonPischke  Год назад

      @@hyuseinhyuseinov7338 I ran a few tests with my R6 and I think I found your issue. When you go into High Frame Rate, you can choose between IPB (Standard) and IPB (Light). With CLog3 enabled, IPB(Light) was giving me the 28Mbps you are mentioning, when I switch over to IPB(Standard) I am getting 45Mbps and a better looking image. Make sure you are not shooting in IPB(Light) and that should fix it 👍
      Regarding why it's not 120Mbps, when you shoot high frame rates one second of actual shooting is being conformed in camera to 4 seconds of footage (120fps conformed to 30fps). Even though the camera is rated for and is shooting 120Mbps, because that one second is actually 4 seconds of footage you get 1/4 of the bitrate across the whole clip.

    great video. when using the movie cropping mode, does it still create a 4k file? is it the same as just cropping in post? thanks!

    • @JasonPischke
      @JasonPischke  3 года назад +1

      Appreciate you watching and commenting! When you are shooting full frame on the R6, it is downsampling the 20.1MP sensor into a 4K image and then saving that to the memory card. The benefits of this are a sharper 4K image. When you crop in, it is going into Super35 mode and is looking at the center portion of the sensor. Being that 4K is only 8.5MP and the R6 has a 20.1MP the center portion of the sensor is still enough to get a full 4K readout and so you will not see any loss in quality. If you crop in on a 4K full frame image, you will see a loss in quality. I hope that helps!!

    Thank you so much!

    • @JasonPischke
      @JasonPischke  Год назад

      Absolutely! The way I set up my camera and have shown in this video will set the camera to record in CLog3 which is one of Canon's Log Gamma profiles. What this does is compress the highlights and shadows to allow you to record more dynamic range from the sensor, which is why everything looks grey and washed out, but will require the use of an input LUT to bring the image back to a more usable state. If you are unfamiliar with using transform LUT's or simply don't want the hassle of always having to grade your video footage, you can go into the Canon Log menu and set it to off and that will make everything look like it use to! I hope that helps ☺

    Thanks for making this helpful video, Jason. I'm finding your settings are working well for my r6 workflow on video shots. I do have a question. At the beginning of the video the r6 is sitting on that nice ronin rs2, which I just purchased, myself. It will be great having these two together for getting stable run and gun action. Have you tried using them together with the ravenseye for active tracking? I find when the hdmi cable connects camera to the ravenseye, the lcd goes black and there's no clear way to see or focus the shot. For now I can live without the active track, but it would be nice to use in the future without also attaching an external monitor or ninja v. Best wishes, david

    • @JasonPischke
      @JasonPischke  3 года назад +1

      Hey David, appreciate the comment, I will have to look into this more with the R6. I have used the R6 on the RS2, but I have never tried using Active Track or the Raven Eye with the R6. I am not sure if the R6 blacks out the LCD when HDMI is connected, that would be a shame if it did. I will try to find some time to play around with this and get back to you!

    • @smilecalm
      @smilecalm 3 года назад

      @@JasonPischke Wishing you success with active track pairing the r6 & rs2, Jason. A friend has a ronin sc which we're able to connect the r6 and use active track successfully. The difference is that the sc only connects to camera by usb. Recording on the sd card is not available on the r6 when an hdmi cable is plugged in. A cumbersome workaround would be to hdmi to ninja v, then hdmi out to ravenseye, but there's extra weight and cables. Hopefully a firmware update will allow the r6 to record in-camera when an hdmi cable is connected, or the ronin rs2 will allow the r6 to use active track with the usb, only (now it only works with ravenseye). USB functions between the two work fine, other than active track. The rs2 is a better overall gimbal experience, other than active track on an eos r6.

    Can we shoot RAW video with R6?

    • @JasonPischke
      @JasonPischke  2 года назад +1

      Unfortunately that is only an option with the Canon R5, the R6 will not shoot in RAW. Even with external recorders like the Atomos Ninja V the only formats supported at the moment are 10-bit 422 Apple ProRes or Avid DNx, there is no RAW recording option.
