    Honorable mention!
Hyper light drifter is a game that only gets more interesting when you learn about the people who created it. It has an amazing story, great fast paced combat that requires a decent amount of on-the-fly strategy, and something I know you love after watching this video, non linear progression.
There are four different main areas with a fifth one being a hub in the center of the map, three of these areas you can explore in any order you like. The fourth one requires you to beat the area bosses of the other three areas first. To progress you need to explore and find extremely well hidden objects called modules that will allow you to complete the area and raise the monolith. There are other collectibles as well, those being keys that unlock hidden areas, and scrap you can trade in to unlock abilities or upgrade previously existing ones.
The combat is interesting as it mixes long range guns and swords in a seamless way. You can hack and slash through enemies with you’re sword, or you can shoot them with a long range railgun, but in order to use guns, you need to get ammo for them by attacking things with your sword. I’m not sure what everyone else’s strategies were, but this system established a pattern of shoot when you can’t get close, and then full send it and beat up a giant toad with a sword that is more like a toothpick to him.
Overall I think it’s an amazing game that deserves more attention than it has gotten.

Rain world is a really good game that never got the chance to gain a spike in popularity, the game just flopped after release, but not because it’s a bad game, but because of critics putting it down. But this game is one of the best.

  • @phantomkitten73

    Here's 8 more.
    8. Hypnospace: Outlaw | You play as a content enforcer on a radical 90's internet mindscape.
    7. N++ | A very simple platformer that doesn't do anything radical, but is so tightly designed, that it's just about as close to perfect as a video game can get.
    6. Roundabout | You navigate an open world as a constantly spinning limousine, interspliced with absurdist comedy FMV cutscenes.
    5. Rodina | A game about scale, you seamlessly explore a solar system the size of an actual solar system. Words cannot describe how it feels to be on a planet in that game.
    4. Proteus | A deeply charming and calming exploration game, with charming, beautiful pixel graphics. Did I mention it's charming?
    3. Stacking | A puzzle/adventure game where you play as Russian Nesting Dolls.
    2. Save the Date! | A freeware visual novel that I refuse to spoil, just play it for yourself.
    1. Hyperbolica | An upcoming adventure game that shatters your sense of reality by using non-Euclidean environments.

    • @neverhave
      @neverhave 2 года назад +1

Proteus is one of my favorite games of all time! The visuals are charming, but where the game really shines is it's soundscape. If you take your time to really listen while you're walking around you'll start to hear how everything has its own unique tone adding to the music. There's something really special about climbing up a mountain and realizing that you can HEAR the sun as other sounds drop away. I just love Proteus and I will take any opportunity to praise it :)

Its a roguelike whose main gimic is that every single pixel is a physics object and EVERYTHING is interactible and has some sort of weird interaction or cool synergy with some other item or pixel. Also the wand and spell system which you use to interact with the world is FANTASTIC.

I can't 100% remember how I came across slime rancher(I think I saw a trailer for it), but I came across it early enough to take part in it's "free open beta" that you could download from the devs website. Needless to say i was immediately hooked! and that's even with how barebones the game was back then. I fell off after a while(I think shortly before the drones and/or treasure pods were added), but I do want to get back into it, especially now with the sequel coming sometime this year!
