"Indie games you haven't played" usually means super popular indie games that aren't the absolute most popular indie games. These are actually deep cuts and I hadn't heard of almost all of them, great job, and thanks for the recommendations.

Beat me to it. That's probably my favorite indie game ever, and it feels like nobody talks about it. Its puzzles are varied and rewarding, the combat is fast and fun, and the world is so much fun to explore! Also easily accessible, being on pretty much every current gen console (I think). Easily the best early access purchase I ever made (especially since it actually got OUT of early access). It's great to see it recommended here.

I'd personally recommend Epic Battle Fantasy (3, 4, and 5 are on Steam), it's a wonderful indie JRPG that makes for an amazing tribute to the JRPG genre, and its battle system is certainly fun to learn, it's up there with the better known commercial JRPGSs today imo. The dev, Matt Rozsak, could also be someone to interview given that he has much to say about Flash games himself.
Also recommend Octogeddon, it's made by none other than the main directors of Insaniquarium and Plants Vs. Zombies, a two-button control game where you're an octopus wrecking everything.

I wish I had seen this video when it first came out, because I have... god, I have just _so many_ recommendations of my own. Things like:
    - Creepy Castle, a ZX Spectrum-styled RPG with multiple playable stories and characters and a combat system based around WarioWare microgames
    - Fist's Elimination Tower, a fast-paced arcade platformer about clearing rooms of enemies and evading giant fists
    - BackSlash, the first game from the studio behind Olija and a two-player arena fighter based around combining different martial arts styles
    - Prodigal, a tribute to the GBC Zelda games with an expansive story and characters that can be interacted with or romanced
    - Voidigo, a top-down shooter in the vein of Gungeon or Nuclear Throne but with its own unique motion mechanics
    - Super Slime Arena, a very minimalist and replayable arena fighter that can support dozens of players and any type of controller you can connect to your computer
    - EatWell, an exceptionally jank but thoroughly unique Pac-Man roguelite with some of the wildest power-ups or secrets you could ever imagine
    - El Tango De La Muerte, a rhythm game dressed in the style of a Latin-American telenovela
    - Black Bird, a gothic opera shmup from the developers of the infamous wacky adventure game Chulip
    - The Void Rains Upon Her Heart, a bullet hell boss rush roguelite shmup with some excellent bosses and gameplay loops
    - Backspace Bouken, a quirky dungeon crawler crossed with a typing game
    - Towertale, a narrative-driven boss rush game with multiple playable characters that each have their own story route and multiplayer co-op options
    - Vision Soft Reset, a metroidvania heavy on the metroid, with a unique time travel mechanic built around reversing time, seeing into the future, and going back to old save points to make split timelines
    - Pato Box, a comic book-styled Punch-Out game combined with various different genres such as adventure and stealth

My dream game would be something with a story and vibe i got from Undertale, Witcher 3, and Night in the woods.
The satisfaction and fluidity of a good combat and movement system like in Hades, the Ori games, or Celeste.
And a fancy/fantasy-like artstyle like in Hollow knight, oneshot, or Ori and the blind forest.

If you’re ok with being mercilessly killed a number of times that a supercomputer the size of a mountain couldn’t count to, play Rain World. It pretty much fits the bill, while replacing fantasy with dystopia. Lord is good, combat is hard to get into but so fun to get right, and a great art style that, while technically not pixel art, still kinda looks pixelly. There’s also AI like no other and procedural animation which, instead of using set, drawn animations, it instead uses code to make animations by itself, increasing the fluidity of the game. The movement system is fucking amazing, as well. Truly a world where it rains.

Deadbolt: Side view game where you are the grimm reaper and your job is to stop a maffia of monsters.
Akurra: Shokoban-like puzzle game highly inspired by the Zelda series. It’s still not finished but it has a ~3 hour long free demo.
Kharon’s Crypt: Early acces game where you play as Kharon who just escaped their prison room at the bottom of a giant dungeo. You were locked in for so long that the people who couldn’t die without your help turned into monsters! Your job is to escape the dungeon and defeat the king who imprisoned you.

    Party Games:
    - SpyParty | A competitive espionage game about subtle human behavior. You accomplish a set of tasks in a room, while trying to convince the sniper that you are just another AI.
    - Liero | An old freeware multiplayer, arena shoot-em-up title where you can turn reload time off, which has a lot more hilarious consequences then you might expect.

    - Heat Signature | A comedy of errors in space, the mechanics combine in a way that you will never stop finding new ways to mess up.

    Puzzle Games:

Personally I think a really underrated rhythm game is groove coaster. It has an awesome array of mechanics in this line rider style, and it even has an official (dlc) Undertale song collection!

I would strongly recommend Boomerang Fu, it’s exciting, easy to pickup the controls, and has excellently smooth animations and controls. Also, this game is the opposite of janky, everything feels great and intuitive to use, and there are no bugs

dude kingsway is so good i played it on discord when nitro used to have free games and i loved it for the small amount of time i played it, and oh man does it get hard keeping track of all your windows, especially since i’m the opposite of the type of person to keep that many windows up on an actual computer it made it all that much better and chaotic with the threat of the darkness coming slowly

@@2leftthumbs Well, I happened to see that Figment had an absolutely amazing sale going on (like $2 for the game), so I got that one. I also bought all the other games on Steam by Bedtime Digital Games, except for Figment 2. Got like 5 games for $12 total, including a couple games by other developers with similar styles that were part of the bundle. I'd recommend you check out the rest of Bedtime Digital's games if you haven't already.
I'm also very interested in Potion Craft and HorrorVale, and fascinated by Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass. I saw you playing that last one on a livestream a while back, and I know there's a ton of content in it, which will hopefully keep me occupied for a good while. :)
Games like Horace and Battle Chef Brigade scare me a little bit because I've convinced myself I'm bad at skill-based video games, but I hope to give them a shot as well.
Unfortunately, I have a dinky lil laptop that won't run most of these games. So for now, I'm wishlisting most things until I can afford a computer that can actually handle them. (And also impulse-buying a few of them because they look so cool...) Hopefully I'll be able to get a better computer soon!

There was a game from a long time ago on the 3DS called Swords and Darkness. It was a a random e-Shop purchase that I thought I would regret but I ended up 100%ing it. It was a lot of fun for what it was. There are definitely better games out there but if it’s still available for purchase anywhere and you’re into Castlevania-type games I definitely recommend it. There weren’t exactly many indie masterpieces made all the way back in 2013 so it was a lot more impressive then than it would be now. It wasn’t anything special but I still think about it from time to time for some reason. It was just a fun thing to run through over a weekend.

It's sad to see that even with this being 2 years old Battle Chef Brigade has still basically not seen an audience increase. That was such a rad game. Also while it's just above the 1k reviews on Steam I cannot recommend the game ECHO enough to at least try the main mechanic of the AI copying your actions during the previous cycle.

Some people create storylines that have some awesome characters and cool lore. Some are comparable to actual shows!

It’s a shame that no one has played this along with the rest of the BIT.TRIP series. In fact, only a few other people I know actually knows what this game and what the entire series is.
