As 2022 comes to a close, it's time to look back and reflect on a jam-packed year in videogaming - so many great games got released in the last twelve months from fast paced action thrillrides to thought provoking genre-busters that it's no wonder that a bunch of great videogames didn't get the time in the spotlight that they rightly deserve.
Luckily for you, after combing through the archives, and playing quite frankly too many games over the last year, The Architect has emerged from their post-holiday meditation chamber with a list of the twenty games from the last year that most deserve your attention - and that you probably haven't already heard of.
You Saw:

wow crazy they almost all came out in 2022 what a weird coincidence
small correction: Neon White isn't on gamepass, I'm dumb.
Want to read about a bonus FIVE games that you should've played from this year? Check them out on: www.patreon.com/ArchitectofGames
Want to read literally no useful information about anything at all? Well then I guess there's my twitter: twitter.com/Thefearalcarrot
One thing with Immortality that a lot of people don't know is that if you have a Netflix subscription, you can play it on your phone for free.
Dominions 5.
Not for Broadcast didn’t have platform info/price/etc?
I knew before going into this video that you just weren't gonna even mention the best indie game of the year: Spark the Electric Jester 3.
Have you seen or played it?
Is it bad to watch so many videos that I can clearly note the lack of "filbythebilby"?
I wonder what Adam is going to do once we reach the year 2100 and he has to start listing 21 games per year instead of 20
plz no, this one was already so much work!!!
Well, ill probably be dead by then, so you'll have ta get a ouija board out and let me know, ok? Lol.
He’s just add another one?
@@ArchitectofGames you cannot escape this, it shall forever be your curse
the real question is: will we get 100 games in 10021, or will the counter reset back to 0?
15:15 I bet you'd like Shadows of Doubt, honestly one of the best games released this year, can't wait to see it out of early access
finally a list that mentions Potionomics. I really loved that game
Thanks for your video. My favorite video game this year has been Vampire Survivors. But nowadays, I have little time for playing on PC and most my gaming time is spent on an Android tablet or phone. I wish you had some "Video games you should have played" focused on Android.
Technically the most accurate war game would be Campaign for North Africa, but it: a) is a board game and b) would not be played by any sane human being, taking around 960 hours to play
1:28 Trombone Champ
2:10 Symphony of War
2:51 Tunic
3:40 Immortality
4:31 Potionomics
5:12 Power Wash Simulator
5:58 Golden Light
6:41 How Fish Is Made
7:23 Rollerdrome
8:02 Hardspace Shipbreakers
8:51 Pentiment
9:37 Hyperbolica
10:23 The Looker
11:02 Foxhole
11:44 Ctrl Alt Ego
12:33 Signalis
13:24 Not for Broadcast
15:13 Teardown
16:35 Neon White
18:00 Citizen Sleeper
Thank you
Thanks man
Can't thank you enough for including Ctrl Alt Ego in such illustrious company as some of those huge games
Oh shit, the game has gained sentience and created a RUclips channel, PANIC EVERYONE
Perhaps with all this attention, you'll be able to make a Ctrl Alt Ego 2, as I'm sure we all desperately want 🤔
@@orzaround1410 I desperately want that too!
Citizen Sleeper simply cannot be praised enough. I've never played a game that explores themes as personal and intimate with such well-written and genuinely emotionally gripping dialogue. Playing it felt like reading my favorite childhood book, unpacking years of feeling like I don't belong and playing dungeons and dragons style roleplaying all at once. Easily my game of the year, do yourself a favor and play it today.
SPOILERS - It's the only game I've ever played that convinced me to become a plant. It forced me to not just empathize but fall in love with another way of existing when you finally figure out the secret behind the greenway. Just the achievement's name "Grow Vast and Strange" is just such beautiful and evocative language UGH. I can't get over that game.
Have you ever played disco elysium? You may enjoy it
@@iankelley9302 after loving citizen sleeper on Xbox and recently swapping to pc and having disco Elysium as one of my first purchases i have been absolutely loving it. I'm about 8 hours in and i cannot wait to dump even more time into it
@@iankelley9302 Disco Elysium is the best book I ever played.
@@amysteriousviewer3772 while I understand what people are getting at when they compare Disco Elysium to a book, I really feel like it does it disservice. It's really its own thing.
The "obscure games" lineups from game channels are my favorite videos of the year. These games are always new, innovative, short, on point, devoid of seasonal grind and feature checklisting, and as a bonus - affordable but directly support small, passionate developers, instead of huge corporate structures. These are games made for gamers, by gamers - and the more exposure they get, the better! Thank you!
Any recs for other videos that are similar?
@@matthewsmith53 check out Jacob Geller's latest video
@@FreestateofOkondor Seconding Jacob Geller. Not only his latest video, but his channel in general, as he talks about these kinds of games on a regular basis and always manages to tie them up with a real-life concept and/or other media. Brilliant channel all round.
@@matthewsmith53 GMTK also does a "most innovative game" video at the end of the year.
Digital Foundry discuss some personal picks, those can have more niche retro-inspired games.
Though now that I think of it, GMTK and Matthewmatosis are like that half the time anyway, so, yeah.
Something I really appreciate is how RUclipsr that ever talks about Tunic never spoils it, at all.
My favorite overlooked gem from 2022 is I Was A Teenage Exocolonist. It's a life sim merging systemic gameplay with a compelling narrative about growing up in humankind's first extrasolar colony. The devs had been best known for the Rebuild series of zombie city builders, but this game demonstrates they've mastered the whole spectrum of disciplines comprising game development. The game is beautiful with innovative design and memorable characters, so I can't recommend it enough.
Tunic is really one the best games I played this year. Everytime I discovered a mechanic or solution to a puzzle, just made me so happy.
Definitely agreed, it's a truly unique and awesome game that far too many people will have skipped because they think it's just a Zelda clone but it's so so much more and it's criminal that it didn't win anything at the game awards!
To be fair, I played it for a while and then dropped it. The majority of your time is not spent on puzzles, which I was hoping for, but on combat and backtracking. And both the combat and enemies are just not that good.
Many of the hidden paths are just things hidden behind the isometric perspective, meaning hitting every nook and cranny is viable but boring.
I don't think I really hit the 'discovery' part of the game, even though I had completed a couple of bosses and went through several areas. But at that point, I was just bored with it.
Tunic was by far the best game of the year and anyone who has played it knows it. We don't need no stinking prizes from those uncultured snobs /j
Especially THAT puzzle (you know which one I'm talking about). Figuring THAT specific puzzle out was some Outer Wilds level stuff.
@@lordecircojeca2039 oh yeah! Solving that one felt so good.
Cool to see Symphony of War on the list! A fun side note about it: it's specifically mashing up Fire Emblem with another strategy RPG, Ogre Battle. That's where the idea of each unit being a group that auto-battles for two exchanges comes from--the main difference being that Ogre Battle's tactical mode plays out in real-time rather than turn-based on a grid. It's a cool series!
I came here to say the same thing. It was so great to finally see a game like ogre battle again after so long without one.
Same comment. I'm going to be picking up symphony of war myself.... eventually lol
Literally thought the exact same thing. This is one of the games I'm considering picking up a switch for.
I actually tried to purchase it last night however it's on steam only. I'm very much looking forward to a switch release.
I didn’t even know Symphony of War existed.. And, I’m back on track with Fire Emblem now so maybe I’ll check it out..
Citizen Sleeper is so incredibly good, Im glad you gave it due credit because damn. They are also expanding the story and the third episode comes out pretty soon (for free)
YES! I thought Citizen Sleeper wasn't going to get mentioned in any videos of this kind. I genuinely thought it was original, fun, liberating, and gripping from the very start of the game.
It was Jacob Geller's second favorite game of the year, second only to Elden ring.
can't wait for the year 6900 when we get 69 game recommendations per video
So glad signalis was mentioned, its one of my favourite games of the year, was a mind trip of a game, that made me think alot about its story and meaning. That more people defo should play.
I’m so glad Teardown got into the list this year. It’s criminal how slept on it is. The creativity of the player in planning their route, the fun and destructive environments, THE CHOPER LEVELS, and the endless mods by the community make it one one the best games of all time in my opinion.
Lack of marketing is probably the reason ,but it's normal for an indie game ,they can't spend millions for marketing like other companies so most indie games get drowned by the bigger once. I also think the Minecraft art style isn't for everyone
@@Assassin5671000 i don't think it has anything to do with minecraft, but I like the voxel-y aesthetic of it all and it's extremely fun seeing everything breaking apart as you smash stuff
I checked out Citizen Sleeper one night. About 5 PM. I don't know what time I finished, but I played through the entire thing without stopping. I cried a bit. And then I never played again. My choices felt final and like I didn't need to go back and see the other routes. Beautiful experience.
I had the exact same experience! I finished it in one go and never looked back. The ending i got was really beautiful and i never looked up any other routes cause the story i choose is the only one that counts!
Hey how long did it take for you approximately? (Even though you don't know your finish time?)
@@ppgod6989 I was up until 2 am or so, but it was about 5 or 6 hours of playtime. Flew right by, and I took a few food breaks.
@@SanguineThor thanks... And actually I just finished it too. I bought it right after reading your first comment. Which ending did you get?
@@ppgod6989 I'm not super sure how it went, it's been a few months. I worked super hard to get a promotion and earn the tickets off the station, and ended up realizing I didn't have time to do all the goals I wanted. So I hyper focused on 'work', and earning tickets off the station. I ended up giving the tickets away at the last second to the family who really needed them. I thought about all the possibilities of the future of the young kid, and wanted them to have a chance at that life instead. It kinda aligns with another ending where you find contentment on the Eye and decide to stay. You realize that wherever you are can be a good home, and you're a vital part of the Eye. Even if it is a bit grueling of an existence. I really should go back and do another playthrough now that I've forgotten a lot of the details lol
I'm glad Signalis got a nod here. I feel like almost everyone who's played it has come away liking it, but it just slipped past a lot of games media this year.
same , i see lotta genuine great indie passion project and go "whoa this look and sounds like a great fking game what a cool concept... but dont think i am ever gonna play it or there is a market demand for it" so i understand them being obscured. but SiGNALiS being slept on kinda baffles me. it literally perfected the gameplay loop of classic old-school survival horror genre and there are tons of people that would love playing something like it rn but it is still barely getting any attention it deserves so tht people can find it
This is my favorite video Adam makes every year because I just wish list every game and wait till they go on sale until I’m ready for next year
"If you're going into battle and need the strongest potions then you can't go too far wrong with Potionomics."
I see what you did there 🤔
I mean, the reference basically writes itself with that game...
I know the reference is obvious, but I'm still super glad they added it into the game. It's just not a potion game without Potion Seller lol
adam you FOOL, i already played most of these! now watcha gonna do
for real though, citizen sleeper has some seriously compelling writing, it could be even compared to disco elysium in that aspect.
speaking of games with WORDS. teenage exocolonist is a game that has been in my backlog for a while, it does seem like it also has some really good writing, but i kinda need a break from "wordy" games for now.
anyway, cheers, here's to new year in gaming.
I love these kinds of videos! I don’t follow trends, hype or even the gaming news if I’m honest. 😅 But even so, it’s practically impossible to avoid seeing the big hits and the favourites online. So this video helps me find out about unique, unusual and ultra titles! 😁 Strange Horticulture, Potioncraft, Unpacking and I was a Teenage Exocolonist, are just a few such titles. Thank you Adam! ❤️
Oh for sure! It's videos like these that really point out the gems instead of the usual popular fodder out there. I'm behind on 2022 games so I need to catch up! 😅
sheep level blizz bias and hate tho
i watched the game awards and looked at the steam awards and was like "Did no good games release but god of war and elden ring?" and then you come around like UM ACTUALLY
Adam , I haven't watch the vid yet but Thank You for all the content you provide us. I know impostor syndrome runs rampant among successful people doing the types of things you do. I want you to know, as a very critical person of the content he consumes, I think you're pretty great. Keep it up, please!
ah jeez looks like you sent this message to the wrong person clearly its not for me (thanks!)
@@ArchitectofGames Can you pass the message along to the editor then? They're the real magic wink wink nod nod
@@lordcrispen welll played!
Citizen Sleeper is just astonishing. Didn't expect it to get #1 on the list, but can't complain for sure :D
I really hope that Neon White successfully launches a subgenre, because I'd play every last one. Its gameplay style is bloody immaculate.
Neon white is 100% my game of the year. I literally followed the game from its very first trailer and couldn't have been happier with how it turned out.
The two tips I would give for a new player playing are
1) Try and have fun with the story. It gives off this cringe anime 2000s vibe that I think is really important for how the game feels, and the pauses are a nice break before diving back into the levels. If it is too cringe for you though, it's really easy to just skip and ignore it all.
2) If you shoot enemy bullets, you get a speed boost. As soon as I learned of this hidden mechanic my brain immediately expanded ten fold and unlocked some cool new ideas.
Pity that Tunic didn't get more attention. It's such a masterpiece of a game.
Between it showing up on a lot of GotY lists and positive word of mouth, hopefully more people will play it!
Uh, it actually did get a lot of attention this year.
Tunic got a lot of attention, certainly enough to put it at the top of my personal list of 2022 games to play.
6.6K reviews on Steam is fairly strong.
What does it have going for it other than being a subverted cute stuff game like almost every other cute stuff game? It looks...so generic. Other than translation stuff if one happens to enjoy homework.
"Do you like meat?"
Yes
"Do you like meat that's alive?"
Well, I used to have a pet dog
"Do you like meat that's alive and hates you?"
Well, my mom has a pet cat
Okay but like people forget that Overwatch 2 isn’t just a slight rework of the PvP. It’s the entire PvE campaign that they had to rebuild the entire game for.
i am terribly suprised by your picks. especcially foxhole, i played the game myself and honestly didnt realise how unique it was even though i was aware of the systems
Meanwhile, Stray won the award for most innovative gameplay. Basically all games from this list are more innovative
Yeeess!
Citizen sleeper getting the love it deserves!
I love that game!
Is it... is it a sleeper hit
the joke I was going to make has already been taken so I'll just say that yes it's great! Amazed it isn't topping more GOTY lists!
I can’t wait until the 2100s when you have to chose 21 games each year instead of just 20
The massive spoilers just left sitting there with no context in your clips of tunic mildly infuriate me even if I know it probably won't actually spoil much or anything for most players.
Yeah that's the intent, for players who know it's a fun little reference, for everyone else it looks like random gameplay
Strange Horticulture was so overlooked, i grabbed it on a whim the day it came out and it singlehandedly got me into visual novels
I wish I could afford a system that would be able to play video games like these.
One nitpick though (that I don't know how to address entirely and for everyone) - for some of these games, I knew I already liked them from the initial description, and started skipping forward to not hear of too many twists too soon (like with that time puzzle in Teardown). It's a delicate balance for sure, but I felt maybe in an "pitch" video - as opposed to a "review" or "analysis" video - there could be less of the cool stuff explained because it spoils some of the fun.
im glad to have played hyperbolica, the looker, not for broadcast, and teardown
hardspace: shipbreaker completely consumed me for a while and i'm so glad to finally see someone talk about it!! it's great i highly recommend it if you can play it
absolutely - my favourite part was taking apart those external engines you have to race to the emergency fuel shutoff switch inside of the engine for =)
I powered through Citizen Sleeper in one day, but those were some of the best hours of gaming i've had in all of 2022. So happy i decided to give it a try. Certainly not perfect, the pacing was a bit off, but it got me deeply invested early and it caried through all he way to the end. Big recomendation.
yeah i had a similar experience with it - fairly short, but really interesting and engaging
Dang, that sounds super promising. Consider me sold!
Man you always end up causing at least one purchase for me with these lists. This year it was CTRL ALT EGO. Been playing it, very good. Thank you helping me maintain my reputation as the guy in my friend group that find all the really cool games.
My most played game this year was Revita, a platform-shooting rougelike where you use your hearts, max HP, or curse yourself for whenever you want to get stronger. I'll probably recommend waiting until 2.0 drops out of beta in a month or two, but if you're looking for a new experience with gorgeous pixelart and music, and a decent challenge, I'd say it's worth picking up.
Looks cool, added to my wishlist! Oh, published by Dear Villagers, they've put out some good stuff.
I've heard SO many good things about Revita. I'm looking forward to it for sure.
I was so worried Citizen Sleeper wasn't on this list and your number 1 would be Stray or something stupid like that lol
Symphony of War has nothing to do with Fire Emblem and just took the old Ogre Battle/Ogre Battle64 "uncontrolled outside of setting the squad formation and letting them fight it out" combat and added it to a a turn based grid map instead of the sort-of RTS approach those games used.
It's not bad at all but much like their last game Dark Deity (which IS an actual Fire Emblem knockoff by the same devs) the writing falls flat and (at least for PC) the game UI feels incredibly cheap and unresponsive. Decent mishmash of old ideas on paper with mediocre execution holding it back. Definitely games that are worth it on a sale for fans of those old school games but that's about it.
So for the most part it's games that these kinds of channels have been talking about and highlighted during the year. So pretty much a recap, which is good in a TLDR kinda way.
Pentiment is so lovely because it shows us how the people of the 16th century were just as lively, nuanced, horny, and caring, cruel, logical, uncertain, and questioning as anyone today despite the characters being mundane. Faith being so present in their lives and government - and how that doesn't actually fundamentally change those people - is also quite refreshing and interesting given the relatively secular nations most people who play it come from.
It's so much more than just a game about choice and consequence - though it is evidently very good at incorporating that as well. Apparently Andreas can have a whole romantic subplot with Zdena and that is wild to me. I'm sure there's more I've missed.
Very solid list! - probably my favorite out of all the ones I've watched/read so far. A few games that I'd also recommend are HYPER DEMON, Taiji, Case of the Golden Idol, Last Command and The Last Clockwinder. Even though it wasn't my personal favorite, it's really cool seeing Citizen Sleeper getting a lot of love from those that had time to check it out.
Tbf, the comedy of the end-of-game joke in The Looker comes more from the surprise of what it made you do without realizing it (and the messiness of the result) more than anything. I think despite its _somewhat_ juvenile nature, it's not like. It doesn't really come from the place of potty humor that most similar visuals rely on as "comedy"
I played many of the games in this list. Liked hardly any of them particularly. Maybe been playing games for far too long. Started on arcades and atari 2600. Hard not to notice how much of this things people find innovative where done many times before just nobody noticed.
my recommendation for the year is a game called outcore. it's free on steam and it's one of the best games i've played this year. highly recommend
some timestamps would have been highly appreciated since i already played some of the games here and know about others. it would have been good being able to skip those parts.
I loved Citizen Sleeper for how it told a wonderful sci-fi story in such a small package, with simple yet enjoyable gameplay.
observant viewers will notice that this list only contains 20 games rather than 440, which is just a 22ndth the size the title suggests
trombone champ... i know this game because almost all of hololive and other vtubers have played this game
chained echoes is an amazing JRPG that tops basically everything released this year
jokes on you, game maker's toolkit already told me about how he invented rollerdrome!
too poor to buy it though, rip.
lol - "pay me some money so I can tell you where to spend even more of your money"
😉
If I made the title of these videos, it would be: "20(22) Games You Should Play"
There's probably 5 of these that made me go "wait... That was this year?"
I don't think Trom.Champ is in the rhythm game gerne. It's in the "annoy everyone at the party and your flat" gerne.
Yours is honestly the only year-end list I wait for. Every others inevitably have a lot of the same games, but you bring attention to underrated indie gems that deserve attention. You're like my music friend who is constantly scouring bandcamp for good albums and I'm thankful for him (and you) because I don't have the energy or time to do it.
Here's some games that were overlooked or really small from this year
*proceeds to list some of the most over discussed and popular indie games of the year*
Thank you for these great suggestions man, I still need to play most of these. One game you missed is *The Case of the Golden Idol* -- an absolutely AMAZING detective-style game, probably the best I've played of the genre. There's also the *Cuphead DLC* , which was fantastic but also wasn't as good as the base game nor is it very long (more on that *_coming soon_* on my channel lol), so it's tough to gauge for the list. Not 2022 but I also finally played *Inscryption* and it has become one of the few 10/10s out there. What a fantastic design.
wait, did you spell out "boobies" like a highschooler with that example of the price graphic?
I’m so glad you included Golden Light. The developer behind it is such a great guy and the amount of effort he put into it is amazing.
so much to say after this video :
- wait, teardown is an 2022 game? but I see it around for years! oh, right, must be one of those early access game unable to make it big when it's actually considered finish (and it's look to be a shame)
- potion craft was all over the place... oh wait, you meant Potionomics... oh the hell I've not even heard about this game!
- the looker is a must play for everyone who liked the witness, even if you didn't loved it enough to push it to the end
- Tunic is a hell of a game, but that could turn into a hell to play if you are not ready for it! it's kind of like outer wilds, a game better appreciate with the less spoiler possible, but it's seem hard to fully appreciate if you are not ready for some dark soul level combat and some witness level puzzles (but not let me scare you too much neither, there is a build in god mode if you really struggle too much with some fight, and it's always possible to look for some puzzles solutions on the internet, i've done it myself at some point and don't fell like it's spoil too much of the experience for me compare to get mad at it of blankly give up on it!)
wasnt potion craft released in 2021
Honestly, it's a shame Dwarf Fortress didn't make it in. Though maybe it way released too late.
Dwarf Fortress is great but it's a bit too popular to get on the list I'm afraid!
@@ArchitectofGames Fair 😉
Love this! It reminds me of TotalBiscuit's "WTF is", "Steam sells" and so on... I used to learn about so many different games back then.
This kind of content is something I really missed
Disembodied voice man, I have a recommendation for you; Prognostic. It's a horror game in which you use supernatural tools to solve murders. It has a story and a finite amount of missions so it's not like Phasmophobia where it's just randomly generated sets of missions. The tools at your disposal include tarot cards, rocks in a cup, wheel map and a few others and by using all of them you can narrow down the culprit of the murder in that mission. Of course you won't be quite alone while doing this...
supah mario bros twoooooo game of the year baby
still the king!
I would love to play games like hyperbolica and outer wilds; however, I can't because I get severe motion sickness from them.
YES I FUCKING LOVE POTIONOMICS!!!!
Watched my friend play through tunic and solve all the available puzzle. Yes, all of them, all the way out to the ARG. And that's all I'll say on that matter, but it was a really funny experience to join them for
Potion seller! I am going into battle. And I need only your strongest potions.
I'm very excited each year for these videos to come out. They are genuinely the only end of the year type thing I look forward too. There is always at least one game that has passed underneath my radar but I absolutely love once I pick it up. Thank you for putting in so much effort. I hope you have a great year ahead of you!
Just hearing the Signalis music again sent shivers down my spine. Loved that game and was my personal favorite from 2022
its so fucking good. one of those things that just sticks in your mind for days afterwards. this weird deja-vu like nostaglia. idk how to describe it but its so damn good
Its only 2-3 hours, but I think Outcore: Desktop Adventure is a cute game about searching your desktop for memory files. Its free on Steam, and while some sections of the game are jank, I thought each story arc was pulled off well.
no mention of Chained Echoes? same developer as CrossCode but classic turn-based JRPG instead of ARPG
Immortality and Citizen Sleeper, two of my favourite and extremely underrated games
I always forget you make a video like this, and im always really happy whenever i see it show up. whilst i never get around to playing all of these games, i do enjoy the ones that i end up playing.
My vote for 2022 is a little indie title called Starsector. It's basically mount and blade in space controlling spaceships combined with pokemon. Adam I hope you check it out!
I've only played one of the games on this list: Potionomics. It was actually your video on game economies that brought it to my attention!
Citizen Sleeper is definitely going on my wishlist; it looks super cool!
i probably should have played less games, honestly.
Yeah, me too
12:33 Signalis is also in the humble vault, or whatever they're calling it now. (Humble Games Colletion)
If you subscrible to the humble choice, you get access to it. And like 120 other games.
And if you like indie games, humble choice is a much better deal than gamepass. And it goes to charity! And not a greedy billionaire who ******* *** kids **** ********** ******!
I thought "20(22) games you should have played" meant 22 games we should've played. I think it'd be cooler if every year, 1 more game than the previous year is shown. this is one way to add novelty and challenge to an already amazing yet rare series
Citizen Sleeper is SO good. Can’t wait for the DLC to finish.
Biiig props for adding Ctrl Alt Ego to that list, that is a game I did not expect to be recognised at all! ^w^
Trigger Witch is such an underrated gem, its a real shame nobody knows about it and it didnt even get on your list :(
I'm really happy to see Hyperbolica on this list. I followed the development of it here on RUclips and can't help but hope to see more games take advantage of mathematically non-euclidean geometry in the future.
I love how more mainstream gaming channels are all going "nothing came out in 2022 except elden ring" meanwhile here (and other indie-oriented channels) it's one of the best year ever.
So, Potionomics is this game you showed several times, I was wondering with all the "potion/alchemy something" titles that recently came out
The ace medal isn't the top medal in Neon White...
no timestamps no thx
Neon White is my indie game if they year. It has amazing setting, gods pulling you out of hell to kill demons for them because they don't want to dirty their hands topped with a fitting breakcore soundtrack.
Thank you so much for this; I remember looking at the 2021 video a while ago and getting Wildermyth, which you showed, and it's amazing
If you like Citizen Sleeper then you have to give Roadwarden a look. It's about a game about being a ranger in a dangerous wilderness that has to keep the disparate villages connected with each other while also pushing the agenda of a distant capital city.
A game that I am currently playing through at the moment that I haven't heard enough people talk about is Chained Echoes. It is a new JRPG with a phenomenal turn-based combat system and some very endearing characters and a grand story dealing with country politics, hidden citys and religious fanatics. I'm 35 hours in right now and I cannot recommend it enough for any JRPG fan.
