Hey Yakko, love this series. If you're looking for an indie game to play with friends, I suggest you try Deep Rock Galactic. It has been around for years and the developers keep updating it seasonally with fresh new content. I discovered it a couple of months ago and still playing it on a daily basis with friends and members of the community. Hope you like it. Keep it up with your awesome work for your fans in italy too!
Long time player of Deep Rock (sorta), and I would also recommend it, although i'm not sure if it fits as "underrated" enough, considering its success. Still, it's fun as hell, and somehow made a non-predatory battle pass for completely free.

I found Tunic significantly harder and more frustrating than Death's Door, to the point where I turned on no damage mode. Great game, though, and really unique.
Y'all native english speakers won't feel as much nostalgia with Tunic as non native english speakers, most of us played games in english in our childhood, and had to use context clues and the images for everything, the nostalgia we get from the manual is huge and it's the biggest reason for many of us to play this game, it's what the person who recommended it to me brought up and it's what i like the most about it
5 seconds into the Tunic portion, I've already watched enough of the video to know you have good taste, and the game looks incredible visually and you're saying it's an unexplainable experience. That's all I need to hear.
I can wholeheartedly say that Pizza Tower is one of the greatest games I've ever played in my entire life. there aren't many indie games that I've played, but that one is definitely at the top of the list for favorite games of all time and I hope Tour De Pizza does more with it (not exactly saying that they HAVE TO make a sequel, but they should totally make a sequel). but we also have ANTONBLAST coming this year too so that's gonna be great too.
This is the first of this series of videos I've seen by you and unlike similar videos I've seen before where the recommendations often feel too short and general, your description of each game was so in depth and engaging that by the time the montage of game clips finished for each game, I forgot I was even watching a video about multiple games
I say its good to start with lobotomy, more things will make sense ^^ Also, you only get to experience day 10 once. Plus I think Yakko's rat brain will scream with day 45 ^^
The nice part about indies is you will be spending less on them than AAA's over time. Especially with all the Steam sales. For 20 bucks I got about a dozen games who receive nothing but praise in reviews. Just be careful on over-buying and having a huge backlog.
your editing is amazing, the modding in bassfishing music part got me dying lol. need to say metal hellsingers approach of "instead of programming music to adapt to gameplay, the player now needs to adapt to the music" is very neat and a cool combination of genres if that makes any sense.
You should definitely check out Peglin if you haven't already. It's a deckbuilding roguelike where you attack by playing Peggle (or Pachinko). It's still in early access but it's one of the most unique roguelikes I've played recently.
Really love these types of videos. I always find something new and great to play. I've played all of these except Pizza Tower so that's next on the list.
Great selection of games this time. Tunic was probably my favorite game of 2022, and Pizza Tower is likely going to be my favorite game this year at this rate.
A indie game I recently beat and want to recommend is Unsighted. Its a action heavy Zelda like where everybody is slowly dying. You need to get a limited resource to keep everybody alive. It has a really nice sense of flow as speed and going through the game fast is what drives the game.
Return of Obra Dinn, personally, I was really impressed and amazed by the experience they created which makes you actually feel like detective and the sound design and voice actings are amazing to hear. I personally recommend people to go and play.
Tunic is a game I really wanted you to talk about And I'm so glad you did Also surprised you didn't spend as much time talking about the soundtracks this time around considering they're all such bangers haha
Really enjoyed the video! In terms of indie game recommendations, Awesomenauts is my go to recommendation for competitive indie games. It’s a platform fighter moba that’s been out for over 10 years now with music by sonic picnic (same team behind speedrunners ost). The art style is like playing in a cartoon from the 80s and the creativity of its character design and world building along with the characters just all feeling super fun to play keep me coming back to it even thought the community isn’t as large as it once was.
thank you for bringing more indie games to light. i am a relatively baby gamer and since started i have always been way more interested in indie titles, especially compared to the current state of AAA titles (i dont think a single AAA title released this year so far had a decent launch). i hope as time goes on more and more love is given to these smaller titles; they definitely deserve it
if you like rhytm / musc timed combat you should really try Hi-Fi rush! I'm horrible at anything about rhythm but i still had a bunch of fun playing it, it's super polished and just feels awesome
Pizza Tower singlehandely revived my passion for video games. I like games obviously, but the unbelievable fun and engagement I had with PT is incredible. I'm so tired of platformers (and alot of genres) being so bloody derivative or just fine or relying on nostalgia bait and barebones level design to be called a masterpiece (I'm looking at you Mario Odyssey) PT made me realizes games can be stupidly fun and innovative like they used to be. I hear Celeste is pretty good too, so now I'm intrigued in whatever the indie scene has to offer. Because god, Nintendo sure as hell cant seem to satisfy my platformer needs.
Love this series (as I do all your videos tbh) and for someone that spend a lot of time trying out indie games, I have a recommendation that I found during the hunt for more; Potionomics! A game that combines the joy of mixing together magical potions with bartering said potions through a deckbuilder cardgame. And all that with a wonderfully charming cast of characters and more.
When you talked about co-op games that are ACTUALLY fun to play, it reminded me a lot to Deep Rock Galactic. It brings me the same joy I had playing minecraft with my friends, laughing and having a great time doing something together. It’s space dwarfs killing bugs and mining minerals. It’s so fun. And the music is amazing. You should try it out!!!
Dude, I'm sitting here, my brain still cannot comprehend how underrated ProjectMoon games are. And I dont mean just library of ruina. All of them, the gradual dive into a post singularity world dystopia, chipping each of its concepts, the slow burn of the growing chaos, slipping out of hands each time you feel comfortable... To see how far we've gone from Lobotomy Corporation in it's Alpha version, through Library of Ruina being a completely different genre, and now Limbus Compay - a gacha, that doesn't feel like gacha??? I made my personal mission to make as many people aware of those games as possible. Because of unique setting. Grim, dark and surreal stories. Amazing OST. And you know who likes amazing OST.
Do, however, be warned. Those are incredibly inconspicuous in complexity, and take a moment to unravel, as they base of tugging carpet under your legs gradually. This franchise is not a short term dedication.
Yakko I love the direction your videos go in always focusing on what the game is and not what it's like you really get down to the trust feelings of the game big fan of it!
Didn't even know you played Omega Strikers! Played it during beta and had a great time with it. Even saw some of the pre-alpha screenshots on the discord, but seeing it in action from your old clips makes it even funnier. The placeholder models were so goofy lol
Hey yakko, I recently finished SIGNALIS and highly recommend it as part of a possible future list of indie games to try. If you like silent hill or games along those lines, you will feel right at home.
@@andymcclurg9916 It plays like Resident evil or silent hill where inventory management is key since you have so little and you have to manage your resources like ammo or healing while at the same time solving puzzles and unlocking new areas.
Fine, I'll buy Tunic! Meanwhile, I have a few recommendations for you. Mortal Sin - solo dev first person action roguelike game with an absolutely awesome art style and very fun combat. On paper it's a very simple game but I find the mix of classes, weapons and passive skills on top of the combat system that encourages animation canceling and different types of combos to be very addictive. Against the Storm - Roguelike citybuilder and one of the few games with roguelike elements where it feels justified in being a roguelike. Each session is 1-2 hours and each run does really feel different as there are many ways to achieve victory in each scenario. I know citybuilders aren't most people's cup of tea (I don't really like them myself) but this game is really well done. Signalis - if you enjoyed Resident Evil 1 or Silent Hill then you'll likely love this. One of my favorite indie games of all time. If survival horror is something you like just buy it and go in blind.
Not sure if it counts as an indie game but I'm obsessed with Meet Your Maker. Build bases and raid other peoples bases alone or with a friend. Simple premise, fabulous execution.
I love these videos so much because I also enjoy finding new games to play. My only recommendation for now is a game called SPOOKWARE, a silly little game about skeletons with fast paced minigames and charming writing. It's super enjoyable to play and I think everyone should play it :D
Hello yakko, i recomend I recommend you play "Bug Fables". It is a paper Mario type rpg game about 3 bugs who go on an adventure sent by the ant queen. The game has a simple but charming which has its plot twists, quite catchy music, very charismatic characters and quite engaging gameplay. It's from a few years ago, around 2018 but it quickly became one of my favorite indies.
I've recently been obsessed with the indie game Wildfrost, a roguelite deck builder where you send expeditions out to restore the sun to a frozen land. It's a super cute game and I can't seem to stop talking about it. I will warn that the game has a learning curve and everything can seem difficult and unbalanced at the start, but I promise that everything can be overcome. (When I started I couldn't see myself succeeding, but now have almost a dozen successful runs under my belt!) The community is also really great at giving advice and tips (though be warned that not all spoilers are tagged in some places!).
Gotta say, Omega Strikers is a blast. I'm not much of a gamer but the fact that every set is as intense as it is on a spam of 15 minutes makes it, to me, exhilarating, not exhausting. But this is a matter of personal preference, and I think you are totally valid for your's. The only point I hard disagree with is saying that the buffs can't be felt throughout the match. You blink and suddenly Estelle has double the range on her primary and Era's special OHKOs
tunic is one of those games that the second it teaches you one of it's meta mechanics it's like the entire world transforms without actually transforming because now you know all the things it's hid in plain sight, doing the golden path was one of the craziest "puzzles" you'll ever see in any zelda like game
An indie game I can recommend to everyone is crosscode. Great pixel art, fantastic gameplay and combat feel, engaging story, banger music, fantastic puzzles. Just all around fantastic package that I wish was talked about more
Great vid bud i played sayonara wild heart beceause of you and it was magical, there are soo many indie games that need more light on them. Also return of the obra dinn is absolute peak story telling this is what video games are all about telling stories through gameplay and treating the player with intelligence!
here's my contribution to game recs and engagement: -Your Only Move is Hustle/Yomi Hustle - a *turn-based* fighting game, where each turn is a few frames, so you can already start getting into the high level play of fighting game mind games even when you're just starting out -Do Not Feed the Monkeys - an interesting, slightly randomly generated, story game about hidden cameras and peeping people's lives. The resource management can get a lot, but it does play into the story too, do you do the morally decent thing, or do you do the thing that gets you more money because you have 2$ to your name and are on the verge of starving to death
YRS THE OBRA DINN IS ON HERE I played through the game with my family and it's SO FUN. Thank you so much for covering it because it's such an underrated game
Tunic is unique and I love what they were trying to do truly. Many good moments and a couple unsettling ones like a miasma spider running off in the islands area and the obelisk factory. Finding pages for all kinds of secrets and foreshadowing events in the game is nice to. That being said, the combat is liquid shit and every time I boot up the game to try and beat the cathedral’s gauntlet to continue the game, I’m reminded how terrible it feels.
I'm so glad you mentioned tunic, it's one of my favorite games of all time and I can't appreciate it enough, i wish everyone knew about it It's a game that gives you a childlike joy like no other I wish I could erase my memory and play it again, but that's just an experience I'll never have again sadly I urge everyone to go play it and if difficulty is an issue you can basically just disable damage entirely and the game will still be enjoyable, ITS THAT GOOD
I dont know if you will do another one of these anytime soonz or even if you take suggestions, but i f you havnt already, you should defenetly play Ultrakill. Its like if neon white was like a bigillion times more chaotic and you actually git to xhoose the weapons you use, its really really good and i think you would like it.
Tunic is very high on my to do list! As for recommendations, I can't sing enough praises for Cassette Beasts. It takes the pokemon formula and does something legitimately new with it, type match ups are more than just does more/less damage with every match up giving the target buffs or debuffs alongside the damage modifier. The land of New Wirral is a joy to explore and the characters who both join you and who you just happen to meet along the way really shine. The field move system also really changes up how you view the world, as they are not limited just the special road blocks they're designed to interact with. It also really leans into being an open world game, as soon as the tutorial is over there is nothing stopping you from just wondering off in whichever direction you see fit, any roadblocks will be overcome either through upgrading your own abilities or finding ways to push the game.

I found Tunic significantly harder and more frustrating than Death's Door, to the point where I turned on no damage mode. Great game, though, and really unique.
Y'all native english speakers won't feel as much nostalgia with Tunic as non native english speakers, most of us played games in english in our childhood, and had to use context clues and the images for everything, the nostalgia we get from the manual is huge and it's the biggest reason for many of us to play this game, it's what the person who recommended it to me brought up and it's what i like the most about it
Even though I am a native English speaker, I played a lot of Pokemon games before I could read, so it still works for me lol.
@@nat298 playing games before you could read is kind of a flex, congrats
Pizza Tower inspired me so far than i start to practice animation after all these years.
I absolutely adored Tunic. Solving those puzzles brought so much satisfaction!
WHERE IS ULTRAKILL
Would be super cool if you checked out Library of Ruina or Lobotomy Corp, they both have insanely good stories and characters
I was just about to recommend Library of Ruina, probably my favorite game of all time
I say its good to start with lobotomy, more things will make sense ^^ Also, you only get to experience day 10 once.
Plus I think Yakko's rat brain will scream with day 45 ^^
If you're a fan of Hellsinger, I highly recommend Hi-Fi Rush! Loved playing both
have you ever played bullets per minute?
JUST GOT A PC!!! SO READY TO SPEND SO MUCH MONEY ON UR RECOMMENDATIONS
The nice part about indies is you will be spending less on them than AAA's over time. Especially with all the Steam sales. For 20 bucks I got about a dozen games who receive nothing but praise in reviews. Just be careful on over-buying and having a huge backlog.
im so glad that omega strikers is back i hope it gets more popular i havent had so much fun like this in a while
0:04 OOOH I'M GONNA GET YA
I love Tunic. Truly blew my mind with the puzzles, secrets, music and art style.
after realising Metal Hellsinger is crypt of the necrodancer mixed with doom I added that shit to my wishlist instantly
your editing is amazing, the modding in bassfishing music part got me dying lol. need to say metal hellsingers approach of "instead of programming music to adapt to gameplay, the player now needs to adapt to the music" is very neat and a cool combination of genres if that makes any sense.
You should definitely check out Peglin if you haven't already. It's a deckbuilding roguelike where you attack by playing Peggle (or Pachinko). It's still in early access but it's one of the most unique roguelikes I've played recently.
IMO peglin is a bit boring. The upgrades and abilities are basically just stat upgrades, and not a ton really integrates with the peggle aspect.
I personally recommend people to go and play.
some of the best sound design in ANY game.
Dude this video was incredibly well made! I really now like Tunic as it seems like a really cool game and I can't wait to see more content from you
I’m really glad you brought up tunic… You should give rainworld a try. Especially with the dlc.
man that Pizza Tower Intro WAS FIRE! 1:05
Tunic is a game I really wanted you to talk about
And I'm so glad you did
Also surprised you didn't spend as much time talking about the soundtracks this time around considering they're all such bangers haha
Who knew that in an alternate reality the Orphan of Kos would grow up to own a Pizza business.
You know your a indie game fan when you already knew about all of these games
yakko if you enjoyed tunic you're also gonna love death's door, also "BPM: bullets per minute" is very simular to metal hellsinger but rogue like
As soon as i saw it i got reminded of bpm lol
They are ceasing support on Omega strikers! 😭
Just finished Opus: Echo of Starsong last night. Pretty impressive how such a deeply layered story can be successfully told minimally.
Pizza tower looks like Ren and stimpy. Watching you play this gave me heart palpitations.
Really enjoyed the video!
In terms of indie game recommendations,
Awesomenauts is my go to recommendation for competitive indie games.
Dang, didn't think that game was still alive ngl. Played that way back when yogscast was in their heyday and one of them voiced a char there.
Thank you for acknowledging the trans double jump, neither gender or gravity can contain us
thank you for bringing more indie games to light. i am a relatively baby gamer and since started i have always been way more interested in indie titles, especially compared to the current state of AAA titles (i dont think a single AAA title released this year so far had a decent launch). i hope as time goes on more and more love is given to these smaller titles; they definitely deserve it
I SEE PIZZA TOWER, I CLICK FASTER THAN PEPPINO MACH DASHING AT FULL SPEED TOWARDS SNOTTY ONG
you sure do seem to like dont make a sound
fucking based, thats literally my favorite level in this whole game lol
@@Victini7472 kinda love the concept of "if you run fast enough, the stealth mechanic doesn't matter"
@@yakkocmn sonic if it was good: /j
also, after having p ranked that level, i can confirm its my favorite level in this
5:28 don't forget brazilian samurai can also double jump
if you like rhytm / musc timed combat you should really try Hi-Fi rush! I'm horrible at anything about rhythm but i still had a bunch of fun playing it, it's super polished and just feels awesome
Pizza Tower singlehandely revived my passion for video games. I like games obviously, but the unbelievable fun and engagement I had with PT is incredible.
I'm so tired of platformers (and alot of genres) being so bloody derivative or just fine or relying on nostalgia bait and barebones level design to be called a masterpiece (I'm looking at you Mario Odyssey)
PT made me realizes games can be stupidly fun and innovative like they used to be. I hear Celeste is pretty good too, so now I'm intrigued in whatever the indie scene has to offer. Because god, Nintendo sure as hell cant seem to satisfy my platformer needs.
As a Hideo Kojima fan I was confused why you mentioned PT for a second. Then I realized it's short for Pizza Tower.
@@DeciDeci_ i thought the same ahahah
You have to play Dustforce
Love this series (as I do all your videos tbh) and for someone that spend a lot of time trying out indie games, I have a recommendation that I found during the hunt for more;
Potionomics! A game that combines the joy of mixing together magical potions with bartering said potions through a deckbuilder cardgame. And all that with a wonderfully charming cast of characters and more.
TUNIC is the closest a game has come to making me feel like I was playing a video game for the first time in a long, long time.
I second that notion.
As someone playing it for the first time I also second that
@@destroyer4929 If you're just now playing it, how's it going thus far? (Try avoiding spoilers for those that haven't played it though pls.)
@@ToasterCorgiGaming it’s going good I’ve done a bit
@@destroyer4929 That's Awesome. Hope you get a blast out of the Game!
Tunic is genuinely one of the best games ever made I’m glad to see it getting love 🥰
Didn't even know you played Omega Strikers! Played it during beta and had a great time with it. Even saw some of the pre-alpha screenshots on the discord, but seeing it in action from your old clips makes it even funnier. The placeholder models were so goofy lol
It's a crime that YOU didn't make video about Hi-Fi Rush😥
^
its a crime he put pizza tower, one crime is enough.
THAT INTRO WAS SO GOOD!! i aspire to acheive that level of editing
Stop by just to say I hate Celeste. That's all.
Another great episode! I’m so glad I followed your last video and played Hypnospace Outlaw. I hope to see Brutal Orchestra in a future episode 😉
Hey yakko, I recently finished SIGNALIS and highly recommend it as part of a possible future list of indie games to try. If you like silent hill or games along those lines, you will feel right at home.
Looks really cool but I don't know much about those types of games, what's it play like?
The little gameplay montages with voice call audio give me life
Hello yakko, i recomend I recommend you play "Bug Fables".
There is no better way to describe pizza tower's aesthetic other than "MS Paint cartoon from the depths of hell"
I'm so happy you included Tunic in this video!
It's such an amazing game, I want everyone to be able to try it out for the first time.
An indie game I can recommend to everyone is crosscode. Great pixel art, fantastic gameplay and combat feel, engaging story, banger music, fantastic puzzles. Just all around fantastic package that I wish was talked about more
I died laughing hardee at the beginning where you responded an angry Peppino asking you to show more appreciation over aversion.
Great vid bud i played sayonara wild heart beceause of you and it was magical, there are soo many indie games that need more light on them.
Also return of the obra dinn is absolute peak story telling this is what video games are all about telling stories through gameplay and treating the player with intelligence!
here's my contribution to game recs and engagement:
-Your Only Move is Hustle/Yomi Hustle - a *turn-based* fighting game, where each turn is a few frames, so you can already start getting into the high level play of fighting game mind games even when you're just starting out
-Do Not Feed the Monkeys - an interesting, slightly randomly generated, story game about hidden cameras and peeping people's lives. The resource management can get a lot, but it does play into the story too, do you do the morally decent thing, or do you do the thing that gets you more money because you have 2$ to your name and are on the verge of starving to death
metal hellsinger feels like the game made for insane former band and orchestra students and i WILL be playing
YRS THE OBRA DINN IS ON HERE I played through the game with my family and it's SO FUN. Thank you so much for covering it because it's such an underrated game
Tunic's golden path puzzle blew my mind
Tunic is unique and I love what they were trying to do truly. Many good moments and a couple unsettling ones like a miasma spider running off in the islands area and the obelisk factory. Finding pages for all kinds of secrets and foreshadowing events in the game is nice to.
That being said, the combat is liquid shit and every time I boot up the game to try and beat the cathedral’s gauntlet to continue the game, I’m reminded how terrible it feels.
I'm so glad you mentioned tunic, it's one of my favorite games of all time and I can't appreciate it enough, i wish everyone knew about it
It's a game that gives you a childlike joy like no other
I wish I could erase my memory and play it again, but that's just an experience I'll never have again sadly
I urge everyone to go play it and if difficulty is an issue you can basically just disable damage entirely and the game will still be enjoyable, ITS THAT GOOD
I dont know if you will do another one of these anytime soonz or even if you take suggestions, but i f you havnt already, you should defenetly play Ultrakill. Its like if neon white was like a bigillion times more chaotic and you actually git to xhoose the weapons you use, its really really good and i think you would like it.
"Is it gonna replace your favorite live-service game?"
Yes, Yakko.
Yes it did.
I love Omega Strikers and I wish I could bare its children
2:31 scariest humpscare (thats what squewe said)
I love his reference to strike a taunt in the intro. Cool video.
Man you’re so funny and your editing is beautiful, wonderful job!!
