Pyre is 100 percent my favorite super giant game. The writing and charicters are just amazing. Also one thing that I think is really underrated is the gameplay. In almost every review everyone says they thought the gameplay was boring so they turned the difficulty down to get through it quicker. I think that's the worst way to play pyre. Part of what makes pyre so good is that the outcome of the matches actually affects the charicters and when you just win every match without effort it takes that away. Also when playing on hard or nightwing difficulty you realize how much depth their is in the gameplay mechanics because you have to take advantage of them to win.

    - Stacking is Double Fine's finest, in my opinion. A beautifully charming Russian Nesting Doll Puzzle Adventure game.
    - SpyParty is a competitive espionage party game about subtle human behavior.
    - Save the Date! is a freeware visual novel by Paper Dino, that ended up being one of my favorite games of all time, despite being barely an hour long; saying anything more than that would ruin this brilliant game.

I will always sing praises for Return of the Obra Finn as I have Never found another game that seamlessly weaves story and gameplay together in the way Obra Dinn has. It made the act of playing as an insurance agent one of the most compelling mystery stories of the decade

@@lProN00bl 4 hours in, not sure how long left I have. I'd say it's really hard not to compare to Undertale in terms of art style and humor, but the story is not very engaging. Still, it's a fun distraction.

Iconoclasts is CRIMINALLY underrated, and i cannot recommend it highly enough. it's got absolutely gorgeous pixel art, fun and engaging combat, and like, an absolutely banger story? with a really good cast? and also it was all made by one dude over SEVEN WHOLE YEARS. it's literally my favourite game, and people have been SLEEPING ON IT for years

If I were to recommend an indie game, I'd actually recommend the game Greg Lobanov worked on before he teamed up with the Celeste people to make Chicory, that being Wandersong. It's a simple puzzle platformer with a really touching story that I highly recommend

I'm not willing to bet this'll be the most obscure pick out there, I'm sure a really good amount of people heard of this game series already buuuuuut,
The Spark The Electric Jester series spanning at 2 (finished) games at the time of writing this, is definitely something I'd recommend not only to Sonic fans but just people who like shorter platformers as a whole. The first game, Spark TEJ while not all too revolutionary with most factors like story for instance, (although the story is good, ridiculous, and over the top and that's pure entertainment for someone like me) it still felt like a nice breath of fresh air playing a completely different 2D sidescrolling platformer after my kabillionth playthrough of Sonic Mania (also kinda unrelated sidenote, so glad it was the game I decided to pick up instead of Forces at the time lmao). The mechanics, combat and bosses while they do show their inspirations, is pretty varied, unique and very much intense when it needs to be. I can pretty much say the same about the sequel, Spark The Electric Jester 2 which is a transition to 3D surprisingly enough, and a rad one at that! The sequel in my opinion can fall flat at times mostly with the bossfights, "kinda difficult to get the hang of" physics for people like me at the very least, and altered mechanics, so I personally like the first game a lot more I'd say that it's probably one of the first full length game that can re-emulate the Sonic Adventure game's style and it does that really well (don't worry you won't have to do any treasure hunting or mech levels or anything lmao). Oh and the OST which is great at worst and surprisingly boppin' at best. For me at least, not only is Spark TEJ able to emmanate the "Sonic-Speed" my favorite OSTs in the Sonic franchise were able to, but it also stands out on it's own, most of the music for both games was done by the notable artists who worked on the soundtrack No Straight Roads such as Funk Fiction, James Landino and Andy Tunstall sooo it's kinda no wonder it goes this hard haha. It's definitely not their best work but it's still a pretty good listen and i reccomend checking it out at the very least if you don't feel like buying the game (which is like very cheap btw).
At the time of making this long ass comment, a 3rd installment of the Spark The Electric Jester series is in the works. A demo is out right now for it which looks to resemble the 2nd game's mechanics with a ton more polish, which makes me very excited.
Anyway uhhh that's it for my big long gush about unique lil sonic inspired game I like a lot, not willing to bet ppl will read this but yeah just wanted to get it out there. You all have a good one now, uhhh peace.

I feel Neon Abyss is a great game to play. It's a Metroidvania that has you play/unlock characters that have a special skill, fighting demons, getting tons of cool and situational equipment, a great expanse of weapons to your disposal that many of them have extra skill for, and cute little pets like a tiny robot, a little "trump" that steals money, or just a block. the best thing about this game i think is two things, when you play a level in the game, you never know what stage you get, but even then if you want to play a stage again or have a stage you really like, there are seeds you can save for later and put in before you enter. and you constantly have to play keeping things like keys, block-breaking grenades and money in check, because what you do then can be a good idea or a bad Idea based on how you like to play or just what happens later in general. And the weapons are just fun! some have homing, others have a whip-like beam, and others are just pure chaos. whatever you get, you probably are gonna have a good time with it. I guess the worst thing about the game is that there is no real story to go off of when playing though.

I think one of my favourite tiny indie games still happens to be Wonder Wickets. It's the perfect blend of cute artstyle and hard as shit - minigolf in space with Kirby's Dream Course vibes while being extremely unique in its own right, with fantastic characters and voices to boot.
There's also a ToeJam & Earl cameo... and characters, but keep it on the downlow 👀
