The best thing about indie games. The creators care about their game
this
man I thought that was illegal
It's not just all About the Money
it's About the fans
The good ones anyway. Lets not forget that these games are floating on a whole ocean of games that are made just for the money.
egotistical egg that’s what I was going to say lmao
"Let me know if you want another video like this in the future" I literally have never actually commented in response to a RUclipsr asking that, but I genuinely enjoyed this video so much that I have to. I love seeing you just gush about these indie games and it's an amazing trip.
Might as well recommend a few indie games. Like uhh... Not the Robots is neat and very overlooked. Stealth game with generated levels where you eat furniture. I really enjoy it.
Wuppo's cool too. Cute Metroidvania with a crayon artstyle. It has some flaws, but it's cute and has some charming writing stuff.
There's also this little indie game you might've heard of called Und-
Ah, don’t forget about monster boy!
I'd like to add "moon" to this list. The English translation only released yesterday and god damn this game's an absolute classic.
forma.8 and Timespinners are amazing Metroidvanias as well

I’m so happy to see lethal league get more attention, it’s such a great game
Yeah me too
Yakko: "my little baby brain cant handle toxicity and competitiveness"
Also yakko: *plays league of legends*
Well not being able to process these things is a plus in league I would say.

The fact Sayonara Wild Hearts didn't win the "best soundtrack" award at the video game awards was a crime. Also I SAW you use that Doughnut County gameplay and you dare not bring it up?? That game has some great soundtracks too!
Also don't forget Lethal League Blaze
Wait, it didn't? How the fuck?
yakko: Betcha didnt expect nowhere patrol to be 5 dollars!
Me who already had the steam page open: IM 4 PARALLEL UNIVERSES AHEAD OF YOU
Oh I love Furi so much, favourite game of all time.
Also, the gameplay that yakko showed was on its regular difficulty, and man, Furier really is a lot harder. You guys NEED to beat it on Furier
Yh it's actually a whole different game on furier
"[Nowhere Patrol's] Boss Rush [has] no save feature... at all!"
... Like an arcade...
Many arcades support saving through save cards or such
Think about it man the game is only 5 bucks that's only 20 quarters worth of tries.
Except it's a PC game and not an arcade. If you wanted to simulate an arcade experience, just... don't use the save feature. As a modern-age game, it _should_ have one, though.
@@bugjams not really
There are plenty of modern games with no saves
Most of them roguelikes or with roguelike features
But i get your point, saves are important
@@djungbo4462
The most popular rogue-lites have save features, though. Enter the Gungeon has the red button that lets you pause a run. And I'm pretty sure in Dead Cells you can just quit at any time and come back where you left off (could be wrong on that one). Either way though, having a save spot on a rogue-like doesn't do anything harmful to the gameplay, and they should all have them, imo.
Im so awfully glad you covered furi. I absolutely love that game, it’s so underrated and everyone i recommend it to either goes “Huh, never heard of that”, “Sounds edgy”, or “I’m not into furry stuff”
Most people I'm friends with are fans of dunkey and knew about it from his countdown videos
same, i played furi and it was honestly a game changer, originally i only played pretty crappy lame ez games, i tried furi, i mastered it, and now i played some of my favorite games of the decade, like dark souls, sekiro, all the sorts
100/10 if anyone reading this comment hasnt played furi, open steam, get your credit card, and purchase the god damn game
@@deus8133 care to give me a gift card?
Fury is such a fun game I remember playing it as a kid and I couldn't get past the third boss and I just got back to playing it a couple months ago and it took me about a week or two to beat. I give the game a 10/10
Quite possibly my favorite indie game ever. Every song in the ost never fails to give me chills.
me, a minute and a half into the video: “damNED RIGHT LETHAL LEAGUE BLAZE”
I saw battle chef brigade on the thumbnail and almost had a heart attack! I love that game and im unofficial top 5 for speedruns. Glad to see it get a bit of recognition
You forgot two of the greatest indie games ever made, Run 2 and Fancy Pants Adventures.
FPA is the best indie/ flash game
RunMan: Race Around the World!
Okay, but everyone has played those.
That is very subjective; I think N++, FTL: Faster Than Light, Save The Date!, and so many others far exceed those.
@@phantomkitten73 The Stanley Parable is far from underrated though.
I really hoped that Katana Zero would be on the list at least as an honorable mention, I just adore how much work was put into the game and one guy programmed the whole thing.
I see Furi, I like. God tier soundtrack. Best indie game I’ve ever played.
I'd like to thank you for introducing me to Sayonara Wild Hearts. I have my doubt at first, but the game grew on me the more I played it. It really is a pop album video game.
"my little baby brain cant handle toxicity and competitivness"
league of legends: "am i a joke to you"
yakko hasn't uploaded a league video in like 1.5 years, probably just doesn't play anymore.
naw weve seen him on some of matt's more recent videos
League isn't competetitive if you play it with a bunch of your goons and go full moves peed Warwick to jump into the stratosphere
Rofl I forgot Yakko used to make lol content xD
if there is one good thing quarantine has done, was ultimately get me the fuck *OFF* of multiplayer games, *GOD* they're *exhausting*
I cant believe he mentioned sayonara wild hearts. I'm literally so happy, that game is so good I highly recommend it on Switch the HD rumble makes it more impactful imo.
From a fan of the game, THANK YOU for spreading awareness of Battle Chef Brigade
Wait, what the heck happened to my username
if you havent played oneshot, absolutely pick it up, its one of, if not my absolute favorite games ever, its got such a good, relaxing, and fitting atmosphere, a deeply impactful story that STILL gets to me even months after playing it, one of my favorite OSTs ever, mechanics involving going into the games actual files (so sadly, its PC exclusive), amazing character design, a great pixel artstyle, and just. i love this game a lot and it needs more recognition
I'm just gonna put this out there
Wandersong needs to be played by more people
Oh Heck yeah, yo! Just watching a playthrough nearly made me cry!
Heck YES I was just about to mention Wandersong myself! I love that game and I wish more people would experience it
YES
Yep Bugs
YES
Really happy The Messenger got a mention, even if it's an honourable one. Will absolutely look forward to a full video on it should you decide to make one.
Wow, LOVE the use of “my only chance” when talking about furi
Battle Chef Brigade, an absolute brilliant game I want more of. Lethal League Blaze, I want it so bad but I get distracted by other games. Sayanara wild hearts looks amazing as well.
PSA on Furi: Don't play with a mouse+kb unless you hate yourself
Completed the game with just mouse+kB, it now I hate myself.
@@Sam_was_hereeee welcome to the elite gamer club of suffering
Jokes on you
I already hate playing with mouse and keyboard
fuck you i speedrun it and beat furier mode on keyboard and mouse
I prefer a keyboard and mouse. Controls is easier with almost no delay when you have a finger on top of each key compared to a very busy thumb on an analog stick. My thumb just isn't young anymore.
Thank you for talking about Furi, this has brought me so much joy
I really wish more people played Lethal League Blaze. I've played both of the games and it's amazing soundtrack and, of course, CANDYMAN will keep this game forever in my heart.
Also, Yakko, if you will do another one of these, I highly suggest you cover Barotrauma!
i used play lethal league on christmas with my family when i was 11 back in 2016, cause my cousin knows a shit ton of indie games so we played this one.
know i remember lethal league with nostalgia.
yakkocmn: "baby brain cant handle toxicity and competitiveness"
Also yakko: *PLAYS LEAGUE*
yeah... LETHAL LEAGUE BLAZE that is! XD
"literally playing along to the music"
*jazz bebop starts playing*
> Carpenter Brut Starts playing
gotta love how that one 10 second segment of you talking about va-11 hall-a is what got me into that game and now it's one of my favorite games ever
My love for Simogo drove me all the way from your latest video to all of your other indie videos to here out of the hope you'd mention my favorite game they've ever made, Year Walk. I was not disappointed so thank you for that
Came here to say that furi has the best soundtrack I've ever heard in a game, carpenter brut and waveshaper kick incredible amounts of ass.
Lmao, I saw the thumbnail and did the same thing
The soundtracks for both Risk of Rain games are really good too.
If you want an indie game that is amazing that no one ever played until recently, It's Brigador! It got shafted at launch but the devs have been updating the game ever since 2017 and even at launch it was amazing! It's a shame tank controls are apparently a deal breaker when you could turn it into a twin stick shooter in the settings.
I love Sayonara Wild Hearts it's amazing!
Every time I replay it I stil get goosebumps
Finally bought Lethal League Blaze a few days ago :D Haven't played online because that's _sceery_ , but I've done the story and today I beat arcade as Latch with no continues! :)
Probably not much of an accomplishment to an experienced player, granted, but I was happy.
That UN Owen Was Her hit me out of nowhere and gave me PTSD. On that note, I would kill to watch you play Touhou/EoSD.
holy crap same, that’d be so fun
heres a little list of indie games for you to try:
a short hike: absolutely lovely introspection, just turn the graphical settings up so that the art style doesnt hurt your eyes.
maries room: free small self contained story that totally makes you feel like a teenager all over again, and the narrators voice is so soothing
Yomawari: Night Alone
: not an indie game as its made by NIS, but is one of my favourite video games of all time, an amazing story, amazing suburban Japanese setting and the best dog in a video game.
if any of you like these please reply and let me know if you enjoyed it.
i absolutely loved a short hike!! it was so cute and enjoyable to just fly around in. i surprisingly found myself spending a good chunk of time exploring, too. highly recommend! :)
@@sw0rdbyte it really is such a good game right?! if you like it you may like the others on this list aswell
A game that is criminally underrated because it is so dang unique and niche is “Creature in The Well”. It’s a hack n slash pinball game with very wonky and intriguing lore. DO NOT sleep on this game.
Sayonara Wild Hearts is a piece of art and had one of the best soundtracks i ever heard in my life.
The ones I'd recommend include N++, Save the Date!, The Outer Wilds, Hypnospace: Outlaw, Rodina, Return of the Obra Dinn, Westerado: Double Barrelled.
Outer wilds that good?
@@jasondp3546: Out of all of the ones I've listed, Outer Wilds is undoubtedly the best, it was my game of the decade in the 2010's. PLAY IT!
PhantomKitten wow
PhantomKitten was gonna get metro exedus but heard so much on this game
@@jasondp3546 its one of the best and unique Games period
I saw the thumbnail and was like, "I have literally been trying to convince all of my friends to play lethal league blaze over the past few weeks" lol. Just convinced like 3 of them and we've been having fun. I actually use your old vids on the game to convince them
I found your channel through MagikarpUsedFly's collab videos and I would absolutely LOVE more videos like these. Your content is heartwarming
dude I literally got recommended one of your videos and now Im watching everything you have. Good content :)
ok, but have any of you heard of connect 4? It's this super indie game i've been really getting into the competitive scene recently.
Why is there a competitive scene for connect 4? Does anyone ever win?
@@elijahdage5523 yes, of course there are winners
like the legendery connEcT_5 who beat a lot of deathmatch tournaments without actually being able to see the game, because he had a blindfold on

@@bigfreerf oh ok. I was worried it would be color priority.
I love lethal league so much, it genuinely an amazing game, me and my friends always play ot when we are at each other's houses
Lethal League is stupidly fun when played locally
i like that he pointed out a lot of people might be there because of his jojo tier list bc that’s EXACTLY why i subscribe only to be met with a lot of content i really like so :) glad i subscribed
I really like Oneshot and I definitely think it needs more recognition
Dude you should also take a look at rhythm games. Feel like you'd really love them considering your taste in music.
P.S. please stop playing Candyman
He's already covered rhythm games, my guy

@@zakkybounce more than japanese rhythm games my dude. Plus those consoles are an entirely different type of rhythm games.
@@Xenodargon Touché! Okay now im seconding your original post, im intruiged.

Yesss
Return of the Obra Dinn is probably the most masterful work of game design and innovative storytelling I’ve ever played, and it deserves far more love and attention.
hearing that Furi theme during it's segment got me so hyped, great video
For such a magical and undeniably personal experience its surprisingly tough to find content talking about Sayonara Wild Hearts (also lethal league). Loved the video! amazed Im only finding this content so late shame on the youtube algorithm as always
>Bug Fables isn’t mentioned
“Hello officer, I’d like to report a crime”
This is a good video either way
same :(
also: Este juego lo hicieron 3 tios en Panama!
@@oxob3333 Buena referencia
Bug Fables was featured by Nintendo in an indie showcase and it had a fairly robust marketing campaign as it came out. If you didn't play it that's on you. I feel like as far as indie games go you're very likely to have played it...I mean the same can be said about Sayonara Wild Hearts which was in Apple's keynote...
@@ToroTor0 I can agree Nintendo's eshop policies are shit. On the other hand you could have inferred what you said from one review. For people who like TTYD that's great. If you didn't like it then the game wasn't for you to begin with.
Like I HATE that Nintendo is anti consumer, but also I know they're anti consumer. It's not a secret. So I know I should do research before doing business with them. Yoshi for example looked great before it came out, but I refused to pre-order because that would be retarded and when I saw the reviews I knew it wasn't for me so dodged that bullet.
Same, he didn't mention dead cells
but where is HYPER LIGHT DRIFTER
Yea
Its ok
This was a great vid yakko! You should definitely make another one!
Love this video! Would absolutely love to see more videos like this, and I plan to share this video with a bunch of my friends
You're the only person i can rely on for game recommendations these days.
Could you please do this again sometime?
try rabi ribi if you haven't played it

LISA: The painful RPG, Katana Zero, OFF, IB, Anodyne 2: Return to dust, Risk of Rain 2 (even though its decently popular) Oneshot, Jimmy and the pulsating mass, and Gunfire Reborn

I'm dissapointed MO: Astray wasn't included. IMO it's probably one of the best story puzzle-platformers we've had.
Oh I love Furi, though I'd probably say it's less edm and more synthwave! This vid made me want to pick it up again, and that last game honestly looked incredible! Literally going to look for it now lol
I DO PLAY LETHAL LEAGUE BLAZE AND I AM A LOYAL CANDYMAN MAIN HECK IM EVEN GOT A CANDYMAN SWEATSHIRT RIGHT NOW
I loved this video my guy. I would love to see another like this again for sure!!!
I love your videos so much. This has so much heart in it and puts a spotlight on some kick ass games that deserve it. Thank you for making my day
Finally, a mention to Luna Nights. Seriously I was feeling almost teased already. I just find it amazing how it seems to have made itself rather well known outside of Touhou itself. That doesn't tend to happen.
Sega: *hasn't made a jet set game in almost 2 decades*
Team Reptile:"Fine, I'll do it my self."
Wow this was one of the funniest / well put together list videos I've ever seen.
Thank you for recommending Battle Chef Brigade, I got it today and ended up playing for close to 5hours and it didn't even feel strained. If it's not for your video, I wouldn't know about it :)
Fun fact I was the guy who asked Yakko about his height on stream
5'10 and 5'11 in a good day B)
Yakko, i thank you with all my heart for recommending Sayonara Wild Hearts. This game changes lives!!!
You’re the reason I got into Lethal League, surprised you didn’t mention it more in the video
I would LOVE more videos like this, I discovered, like, 8 new games that are right up my alley. More pls!
My soul IGNITED with joy when you mentioned Vall-halla. Its probably my #2 favourite game of all time (second only to Celeste), and Im super happy that it finally got any sort of recognition. It is extremely underrated.
I'm surprised and disappointed that you didn't metion Iconoclasts or at least one of Konjak's games
I enjoy this indie review type video a lot. And yours just made me subscribe. good job.
Thanks for the recommendations! These are all really cool
But yakko, i played those games....

also super dissapointed i didnt play battlechef brigade while it was on xboxgamepass
Can we get a full version of that U.N Owen was Her cover?
I love how much effort and heart you put in your videos
Your editing, commentary and general vibe is extremely informational and entertaining. Subbing sir 👏🏼👊🏼
One hidden indie gem is Scourge Bringer; a kind of platforming rogue like that is in late beta. Please consider getting it on steam an leaving a review
Hey indie afro jojo man, i got a few more recommendations from my ol library. Oneshot, Heartbound, cat quest, rime
Absolutely loved the video! If you ever make a second part to this I'd love an even bigger list. As far as recommendations go, I have to give praise to Hyper Light Drifter since very few indie games these days take inspiration from old 2D Zelda games.
Great video would watch these forever
I was hoping I'd be able to say "Jokes on you, I HAVE played these" but I can only say that for Rivals of Aether and The Messenger. Nonetheless, I'm always happy to see underappreciated indie games get some spotlight.
Just played sayonara wild hearts after you reccomended it and damn that was amazing
first video I have seen from you and got me to subscribe, good job, love your edit and personality!
Yakko, No Straight Roads is coming! It looks amazing I think you will love it.

Consider adding Dojoran to the list!
"Not Celeste again. I promise."
