Sun visor replacement (one-handed) on a 2007 Sonata

- A how-to on replacing the driver-side sun visor on a 2007 Hyundai Sonata (model years 2006 and 2008 should be the same). The procedure for replacing the passenger side is the same. I had to replace both sides because they turned floppy around the same time. The cost of both from www.autopartscheaper.com totaled about $115. (Edit 11/25/2012: the price for both visors at autopartscheaper is now about $96)

Thanks for this, I searched all over the internet for installation instructions to no avail...until I came across this clip. The removal of the old visor was super easy and the installation of the new one the same. Thanks!!!
Thank you for sharing. Yours is The Only Video that demonstrates how to release the vanity light connection with the push of the button. Probably no-brainer for most but non-mechanical folks need step by step instructions 👏👏👏👍😁
We were about to pry the plug out and break it. Your video saved the day! And the visor. Thanks so much!!!
Best damn video I have seen, after watching the entire video it took less time to replace the visor than watching the entire video. Great job!!!!!
I actually called the dealership today to have a replacement driver side visor and they quoted me $127 plus labor. So I ordered the replacement part to do it myself and I''m saving $100 now. Thanks for the video!
Thank you so much for this great video. I did mine yesterday and it took me about 5 minutes. The part was $43.00 on Ebay. I called the dealer and they wanted about $100 for the part and $39 to install. Woo hoo! So happy I could do it myself. Thanks again.
I watched several videos on changing the visor and yours was the best by a long shot.
Thank you for taking the time. A little too much time.
12 minute video that should have been 5.
Very informative and bought visor from Amazon for $36. Gonna install it later for my dad. Thank you for the video.
This guy did a great job, very easy to follow his instruction!
Thanks for this! It's nice to have tips as to how the little parts come apart since sometimes they look like they'd come apart slightly differently than they do. We're leaving on a road trip tomorrow and no more floppy visors will be really welcome!!
Thanks for the Video ! It was perfect. This is actually the second visor that had to be replaced. The first one was in the 2008 Sonata. I actually spent $100 at the Hyundai dealer for the visor and a service station charge me $20 to install it. This time for my 2007, I did some research and found a visor on Ebay for $36, $10 shipping. I found your video and installed it myself in less than 15 minutes. My only problem was I had to use a small screwdriver to get the cover off. I forced it when it wasn't coming off and a small piece broke off in the lower left hand corner. No big deal, after the new visor was installed, the two cover pieces snapped back in. I just used a little double sided tape for the small piece.
There is a recall on the 06-07 Sonatas for the sun-visors for certain areas. They will replace them for free.
Excellent video. Saved me from doing some damage during the repair with your great explanation.
Thanks so much! The visor on my Hyundai Accent has been driving me crazy for two months. I was so desperate, I even tried duct taping it to the ceiling. (It doesn't work, BTW.) I'm embarrassed that I never thought of just removing it until I saw this video. It took me about two minutes.
Thank you for the installation lesson! Going to cancel my sun visor replacement at the dealership. I can handle this and save this retiree $80 + dollars!
Great video - saved me about $100 by doing it myself vs having the dealer do it.
It's definitely one of the easiest repairs I have ever done on a car. Took less time doing this then watching the video. I was worried the plastic would break (2006 Sonata, 38 degree outside), but I used the scraper side of a nail puller/scraper bar to carefully pop the cap off. No problem.
Great video, thank you for putting this up, saved me the $200 dollars PER VISOR the dealership wanted to charge me and gave me my weekly DIY high :)
Thanks for this excellent video and for the link to the replacement part. You just saved me some money.
thank you for a fantastic video. I am in the process of contacting Hyundai re: recall on the sun visor. I was just informed my Sonata is not part of the recall, which is stupid as in other parts of the country there is a recall for the Sonata.
Thank You so much for this video, soon will change mine! Really helpful!
You're doing God's work here, friend.
thanks buddy.
Just changed mine, nice video.
Very nice, thanks very much!! Exact same procedure on 2009 also.
The campaign does appear to be limited. I just purchased new visors and found this video very helpful. I am surprised that Hyundai doesn't have a global recall for this condition - VERY UNSAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I believe it would be too wide spread (i.e. expensive) for them. No matter, because of a $100 part and the irresponsibility of the company, I will NEVER buy another Hyundai vehicle.
Thank you! The quote from my dealer was $72 for labor plus $250 for parts. Non-handy as I am, I think I can manage this.
Thanks for posting super helpful!
very helpful video. Thank you.
thank you very helpful. I have a 2008
Great job... Very simply :-)
The dealer makes it seem like the labor is so hard and you spend close to 140 because when the warranty is gone it's ridiculous expensive
Thanks for this. It appears to be the same for a 2011 Sonata. "LOOKS" pretty simple. Hope it is.
Really useful.. Good one.
Thank you!
Thank you! Very easy :)
Thanks for this. I was about to tear into that plastic cover, but was afraid I would I have broken one of those clips. Knowing my luck, the cover would cost more than the visor. :-)
thanks for this video :)
Yes, that's true, but as far as I was able to figure out the recall is limited: "Campaigns applies to vehicles located in the western, sc, and southern regions only." I'm not covered - I checked with my dealer. I can't post a link here, but try googling "hyundai visor recall" to see some relevant info. Recalls are much cheaper.
Hello. I'm trying to remove mine, but am still having a hard time pulling the clip apart on the inside for the light. Any tips?
Thanks.....
This problem is under recall. Call your local Hyundai dealer and they'll repair it for free! I drove around with a contact lens case wedged into BOTH visors to keep them up until a friend told me I can take it in for the recall.
For 114$ plus labor velcro will have to do as I have same problem
hi from where did u buy this?
my local dealer told me it would be $140 to replace!
Thanks for posting this! Very helpful to see how to do this.
My 2007 Santa Fe has also had the mechanism which holds the post in place break. I have purchased a replacement from autopartscheaper-dot-com
They claim that the part they are selling is a genuine Hyundai "updated" visor, which is more robust and will not break like the original visor.
UK Hyundai dealer wants £247 PER VISOR for a Santa Fe! Ouch
I think someone at your dealership was being a cheapskate. I know it's a regional recall but I am in PA and they did it for me anyway. I was prepared to state plainly that if this simple repair was something over which they didn't mind losing a future customer, then, see ya. However they didn't give me any hassle at all so I didn't need to play this card. I have no idea why they say it's regional; it happens all over the country.
