- Guiding Pauls fantastic example of a Land Rover Discovery 5 around some of the classic Llangollen green lanes. Down hill on the Allt-Y-Badi, up the Pontfadog steps including a bit of winching, and across the notorious Splashy Lane.

Great video showing a D5 with 20" wheels can do. My video is opposite, it is in thick sand and warms days. I love seeing people enjoy their Discoverys . Well done

Great little film.. I love it up there but i've only done it in the summer so fair play to you guys. Allt-Y-Badi i've done both ways and Splashy. I think i've done Pontfadog - Does it have a really short steep section literally 30 yards in from the tarmac. Full right boot or your winching.

So at the minute there’s a one way restriction on Allt y Badi which is a bit annoying but we have to live with it. Usually both ways in the summer so it’s all good 👍🏻 yeah the Pontfadog one is one that takes you by surprise a bit. Turn a corner and you’re faced with a rock cliff in the track and like you say you need to give it a good crack, one day someone will make a camera that makes these tracks look as intimidating as they are when you’re stood in front of them 😂🤞🏻

where did you get the driving lights for the D5? they look great.
D5 a little bit hesitant but I suppose at the price one needs to be a bit careful. D3/4 are becoming more affordable and are immensely capable.
How did the d5 compare to the d3 and d4? Giz a shout next time you head into Wales, I'm just prepping a D3 for green laning.
I’m so digging the discovery (I assume 5). Been looking at a new family rig that has good off-road capabilities. I never even gave Land Rover a look until doing some plumbing work at a customers house last week. He took me for a fun test drive in his 2018 and I was blown away at the comfort, look, off the line quickness (it was a turbo or supercharged model). Definitely looking at some now
They definitely do all of those things, big, comfy, quick and capable 👍🏻
do you guys know of any Disco 5’s with snorkels? is it possible?
Hey mate, do you always take the arch trims off when going at it ? .. or are they permanently removed..
Basically they came off because they need trimming up to suit the 33”s, just haven’t got round to refitting them. Also had a load of new clips delivered this week so should be back on soon 🤞🏻

As a novice offroad driver, it seems like the difference between the D4 and 5 here just comes down to the driver. The D4 drivers just seem to send it more. I coiuld be totally off though.. I just bought a 2019 D5 so maybe im just hoping thats true
There’s definitely an element of that, realistically you could buy both of the d4’s in the video for the price of Paul’s D5. Terrain response in the d5 is a massive step above that in the d4. The d4 has better angles than the d5, approach departure and break over. Both d4’s are running 275/70/18 (33.5”) tyres whereas the d5 is on 265/65/18 (31”) tyres and the lead d4 (mine) has front and rear ARB air locking diffs which definitely help making things look easy.
That makes sense! Thanks for the clarification. I dont think my D5 has auto terrain response - I havent taken delivery yet. But I do know that its running on 275/45/R21 tires which are not going to be ideal for off roading. My plan is to enjoy the look of them for a bit and then look for a nice set or 18 or 19 inch wheels and get some good AT tires. @@D4SVX
@@CoreyMarlin the 265/65:18 are a perfect size. As far as I remember there’s no mods required to make them fit a d5, they offer good sidewall height to allow for pressure reducing too. BFGoodrick KO2 are an incredibly robust tyre and last forever. I had 25,000 on mine and they still had 8mm left. Can’t recommend highly enough

6:38 given the price of it, I would hope so. If my 20 year old D2 (only mildly modified) can climb splashy a current model Disco should make short work of it. If it couldn't, I'd be asking LR for my money back!
Great video, great watch. Your D4 is a lot more extreme than mine. How did you manage to get 33's onto it? I thought the absolute max size tyre was a 32" and you'd need a 2" lift for them and possibly bump stops.
Lots of chopping 😂 I’ll be doing a video in the near future on all the areas that have been chopped and the spacers/limit straps bump stop blocks etc used to get it to work 👍🏻
