Pixel 6 is using heavy postprocessing, and postprocessing does not make good photography. I cant stand unnatural looking HDR mobile photos. It still could be better camera than Xiaomi, but with all that processing it's hardly comparable by any meaningful way IMHO.
Struggling between Google 6pro and xiaomi12 pro, Google is better at photography, but everything else is on xiaomis side, from charging wired and wireless, to faster hardware and system generally.
Too bad the January update for the Pixel didn't fix the front facing camera's noise in low light. I'm curious how it would compare if you adjusted the exposure down a little. Maybe a youtube short comparing the 6 and 6 Pro front facing with and without exposure adjustment? Would be pretty quick to do and maybe get some views from it. I know that the front facing cam on the 6 handles the low light better. Perhaps Google is using the same tuning for both lenses and that is why. The 6 has a lower ISO so it should be allowing more light in even though the 6 Pro has a higher megapixel count.
@@TimBrownTown ah video! yea, the camera has its limits and the photos only look nice because they stack the images to filter out the grain so i guess it will never be fixed.
The pixel cannot control the glare coming from light sources at night, xiaomi definitely does it better. Overall pixel wins, but definitely needs to work on that part.
It seems to me or the blur that it makes in the portrait photos is better in the front camera than in the rear camera in pixel 6? .. The blur looks more natural
Yes because the rear camera tends to add extreme blur effect to the background, while it's less blurry on the front camera. But you still can adjust the blur amount in Google Photos after taking a photo.
Grant, excellent as always. We in the community owe you. Yes, I am not sure if it's the image processing or is it a limitation of the sensor. It just seems that there are a ton of pics from the main sensor that just don't have the detail that I would expect on the 12 pro. I agree, pictures are great but you can definitely see the detail difference against a GN1 sensor. Thanks again.
It maybe one part, but going backwards in that area certainly doesn't help especially if you believe they aren't good at the other part (software image processing).
@@GrantLikesTech Yeah but all the tech community talks about is specs and numbers..its an obsession. The Pixel 5 with its ancient small IMX363 will still destroy any phone out there with a GN2 sensor. Sensors all work the same way, there has been no revolutionary changes in sensor technology in a decade. Its not about going backwards its about the final results the output from the camera in the end. Bottom line is that larger smartphone camera sensors havent had the massive improvements the tech community has been hoping for.
I prefer Pixel 6 Pro over Xiaomi 12 Pro. Doesn't matter how good Xiaomi smartphones on paper in terms of specs, they're not that good when it comes to real use compared to how it is on paper (benchmarks, specs etc) For example Pixel 6 and 6 Pro isn't that impressive on paper in terms of specs, especially performance, but damn how good Google image processing is, and they improved video compared to Pixel 5. Also Google software maybe not the most stable one compared to Samsung One UI but it's way better than MIUI Frankenstein 's overlay over Android. I'm actually a Xiaomi user, just take a critical look at things.
Thank you very much for the comparison! I'd love to buy Pixel 6 but it's not available in my country so I wouldn't be able to use VoLTE, VoWiFi, not even 5G. What about Xiaomi 12 Pro GCam vs Stock camera? :)
It's not available in my country, but only 5G isn't available 4G is so I imported the international Model and it's working great.. 5G isn't mainstream in my country so I'm not missing out on much anyway
Thanks, both are pretty good but the Pixel consistently more accurate. They both do pretty well with blues, but the Xiaomi can oversaturate the greens more often.
Yes, if you're too close to a subject it will only be digital zoom on the main sensor. Shots farther away will use the 2X telephoto. I have examples of both in the video.
Xiaomi has gone really heavy handed with the saturation in the Xiaomi 12 pro and Xiaomi 12. Personally don't like that oversaturated style in daytime photos. Much prefer the Pixel 6 pro here.
Thanks for another nice video👍 12pro had no any chance. Is your 6 pro heating after strong camera usage? Last weekend I've made over 100 photos in 10-15 minutes (also raw mode was on), photos was taken at room. So I think after 15 minute, phone was too warm and camera app was freezing and shutting down several times until i give it a rest. I have January update.
Xiaomi had better video quality I think. Better tones but the audio wasn't as nice. Night photos were also better. Pixel has better average daytime photos.
I've been using my LG V40 ThinQ (Moroccan Blue - 6GB/128GB) for the last 2 years... I hate its native image processing. It was much worse compared to the LG V10 I was using before! However, using a Gcam version developed by 'Fu24' made my LG V40 ThinQ become impressively better in terms of picture details and color accuracy with visibly less oversharpening applied... I didn't throw it away meanwhile because of that! ❤ So, I have been thinking about getting a 'Google Pixel 6 Pro' next! I have been wondering what's the best option between the 'Google Pixel 6 Pro', the 'Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra' and the 'Xiaomi Mi12 Pro'. About which would be more appropriate for my own kind of use (Photography and video). Thanks to you, I think it's better to choose the 'Google Pixel 6 Pro'! 🙏 I just miss the fact that it doesn't have a native 2x Telephoto lens with a focal length of 50 mm (the ideal for shooting human portraits, because it allows to get less geometric distortions)... I've been subscribing your channel since the last 2 years as well, by the way! Your work is always incredibly great! I absolutely love your comparisons! ❤🙏🍀😎💪
1:37 Which picture is closer to the real one? What does a dog really look like? IMHO: 12 Pro makes the photo warmer, Google greatly exaggerates the sharpness and contrast
Note: Pixel 6 Pro is definitely better, especially in the details, but sometimes these details make the photo weird... While Xiaomi brings more color, Google Pixel brings more details and leaves photos cold and dull... But one edit can change everything...
Very nice in-dept review, thanks. I was looking to get the Xiaomi 12 Pro later, but compared to the Pixel 6 Pro it looses both the camera and the sound side IMO. I wonder if the 12 Pro has got any updates that improved the cameras since this test? What Xiaomi phone got a better camera than the 12 Pro (if any?)
Very good comparison !!! LIKE !!! The conclusions were somewhat predictable! I honestly expected bigger differences. On this occasion we saw again the different approaches of the two manufacturers. It is clear that almost every phone that is made for the Chinese market has this tendency to expose the photos, more than we like. It's not the first time or the last. I'm curious when the global version will appear, what changes will be made. On the other hand, Xiaomi 12 Pro is at the beginning of the road and I don't think it has received any updates so far. However, in many ways it is not far behind Pixel, on some occasions it seemed even better to me, and even if it does not use a Samsung photo sensor for the main camera, IMX 707 can deliver very good photos with optimized software. Congratulations again for this video !!!!
Pixel kinda destroyed Xiaomi all around, but P6P still has godawful indoor low light front camera, video especially, I have never seen anything so BAD from such a great device (u didnt test it, but I own the P6P and indoor low light video is legit worse than from phones from 10y ago)
Basically if you want detail and HDR, go for Pixel 6 Pro. Xiaomi 12 Pro maintains some of the overexposed parts for more natural look. Pixel also has a lot better zoom algorithm, if high zooming is your thing. Oh, audio is also better on Pixel because for whatever reason, Xiaomi returns to 96Kbps bitrate, way lower than 256Kbps on previous 11 series. Quite funnily, though, at night Xiaomi sometimes does a better job at restoring highlights, although Pixel wins at brightening the shadows.
Seems to me in almost every comparison, Pixel sucks in taking human subjects in stills; maybe because of its overprocessing, but in almost everything else Pixel takes it home.
I guess it's not even deserve comparing, PIXEL TOPPED ALL THOSE COMPARISONS BY FAR! It's like comparing a B movie to a Top Box Office movie, sorry Xiaomi you in no where close with Pixel
Yeah but it seems like the 12 and 12x are really good deals since there isn't much of a difference in terms of cameras the only one being the zoom camera but it sucks anyway
its funny the absoluty amazing estabilization in pixel 6 pro...is perfect, a pitty that the image in that video is horrible...100% stabi x 0% quality = video useless...xDDD
Xiaomi has been using mostly high quality camera component, but always falls short in camera software, quite visible in sharpness. But Pixel has other issues elsewhere... Hmmmm
There we can say that there is no photo 🤧. It's a bit like a fight between a professional heavyweight and an amateur featherweight. And without lying, I'm convinced that the Pixel 4 XL, the iPhone 11 Pro and the S20+ do better than this Xiaomi 12 Pro.
if you want "realistic" photos, buy a Sony Xperia then... Pixel photography is amazing if you want a "point and shot" phone, even samsung and apple take over-processed photos
Xiaomi: Our photos are almost the same. . .
Pixel : let's zoom . . .
Pixel 6 pro domination
Pixel 6 Pro destroyed Xiaomi in a brutal way….
Maybe xiaomi need gcam port with a good xml i guess . But who will spend time to create a good configuration xml

I like how you're paying so much attention that you even included the screen recording of the viewfinder.
Good work!!
Glad you like the screen recordings.
More realistic from pixel images, more natural colors and video zoom better details
Thx for your very nice comparison! :)
For me, pixel won everything except portraits, the 12 pro seems less artificial in that aspect and has a more natural bg blur
Can you do a camera comparison between the lg v60 and the vivo x70 pro camera.

Sensor is only one part of a great smartphone camera, software being the most important. Xiaomi does not have the AI chops to compete with Google.
