After seeing reviews about the new gen1 I ended up getting the IPhone 13 pro max and it’s my first iPhone ever. But I will say overall it does seem to perform better than any snapdragon device I’ve had.
very good review as usual from Chris, I guess more testings are coming but I am mostly inrested in the Xiaomi 12X which is sporting the Snapdragon 870 and hopefully will have less thermal issues and better battery life Crossing fingers to get a test from Chris of it as well !
Snapdragon 870 is awesome cip manufactured by TSMC! TSMC was making best snapdragon cip like 845,855,865,860 and 870!!! But Samsung was making 888 and now new 8 gen1! There lies all the problem! Samsung is great in many things, but making processor is not one of them! Samsung make that catastrophe of processor in new Google pixel witch have same problem like 8 gen1! Apple share part of guilt ,coz they bought almost all capacity of TSMC and rest mediaTek!
I hoped for the cheapest among the 12 series to be the next-gen of Mi 11x and instead the 12x is priced in an entirely different class... From 350e to 500e is quite a step up and a disappointment.
I'm still using mine to this day and it's still running great. 12 pro. Definitely convinced me to buy slightly older flagships over brand new midrange. Last phone was mi 10 note (midranger) when it was brand new and it got pretty slow and sluggish after just 2 and a half years, meanwhile surpassing 3 years and still going strong with my 12 pro.
Hi is the phone heating while using casually or only when we do gaming? I planned to buy flagship phone this year but the new snapdragon processor making me think twice.

Also the 12's photo of Vera is disappointing - details were lost on her black fur (Chris mentioned this as "black crush").
the 12 and 12 pro seems quite disappointing even with new specs. Shocking. The cameras are also disappointing. They need to fix them cause that overexposure is shocking. My wife has the note 10 pro and it seriously takes brilliant photos and video (with proper lighting of course). I also see that the 12 and 12 pro's video recording is very jerky. Guess we wait until we get better cooling for newer chips. The 860 and 870 gpus are still good to go with . The 888 heats up quite substantially as well. They should rather just use the 888, 888+ and Gen 1 for tablets since it will have better cooling.
I have the same mobile phone and as far as photos are concerned, I haven't found a reasonable replacement for it for reasonable money from Xiaomi so far

Welcome back Chris !!!! A real pleasure to resume watching the reviews made by you !!! Unfortunately, the conclusions are not satisfactory !! It's a clear problem, the question is how much it belongs to the processor and how much is to blame ... Xiaomi . The first impulse is to blame Xiaomi ... So it was with the Mi 11 series, but after that, all the phone manufacturers had the same problem with SND 888. Somehow, for Mi 11 series, they have greatly improved the situation through software updates. For Xiaomi 12 they brought another cooling system but it seems that it is not enough! No one knows for sure, why they didn't calibrate the cooling needs with the thermal potential of the new processor. It's a shame because these phones have so much potential, have a special quality construction, top technology and whatever is disturbing in the current operation, it can be improved by software. I sincerely hope that Xiaomi can solve this situation through the following software updates, if this is the case. If not ... goodbye SND 8 gen 1 .....

Thanks for the great review @Chris, as usual. If you ask me, 12 Pro looks like a downgrade to me from Mi 11 Pro, especially in Camera department. The 8MP 5X optical Zoom Camera in 11 Pro is much versatile than the 50MP 2x Optical Zoom Camera in 12 Pro, in my opinion. Also, gone is the IP68 protection which is a should have been there to their flagship device. I am using a Mi 10 Pro till date as my secondary phone and to me, that has the most versatile Camera compared to its successors for next 2 generations
i always liked the summery overview at the end of your video's. Can you put that back please? The pro's and cons overview :) Still looking for an upgrade for my Realme X2 Pro... These phones are not gonna be it...
Thank you very much - extremely useful, was waiting Xiaomi 12 since my old 10T Pro and now I'm very much disappointed need to look for something else how... Sadly Huawei still banned despite it's new flagship... Vivo X70+ Pro? really have no idea what to get now in 2022
actually you must know that the company which was making snapdragon processors has for now stopped making snapdragon processors because of apple and so snapdragon had to go for other producer which is samsung so thats the reason behind but you are lucky to know that there will be two variety of newer SD processors one which is on the market right now other variety will be in market soon which will not over heat
Pretty shocking to see the overheating issues. With so much reporting of heat issues with the SD888 last year, you would have thought they would have tried to improve upon that (probably too late in the development cycle of the SoC, but atleast with some cooling solution). It's a shame - the MI12 is a really nice looking handset, I'll stick with my MI11 Pro for a while, despite it being a bit too large to be genuinely comfortable for 1 hand use.
Especially the Xiaomi 12 it died in 11-12 minutes into the test that’s just not acceptable at all. Xiaomi could have used better cooling and Qualcomm is also to blame maybe they didn’t set the cooling requirements for it clear enough. Still coming for the hot 888 to the new hot chip seems incredible. Nothing was learned from this ?? 🤦♂️
@@Techtablets There are some great videos on Snapdragon 8 Gen1 vs. older Qualcomm and Apple's SoCs. Basically, the peak power usage of this chip can go up to 14W which is absolutely crazy for a mobile chip and can't be cooled without a fan in any phone. I mean, Xiaomi probably could have (and should have) done more in terms of cooling and maybe throttling the phone sooner rather than later to avoid overheating. But make no mistake, this chip is really bad and it comes after an already bad 888. Snapdragon dropped the ball in the past few years when it comes to power usage and efficiency, maybe it's poor design, maybe it's a manufacturing process (Samsung for these flagships).
I suspect Xiaomi will downclock or power throttle the SoC soon. They no doubt have used its full ability on release to get those high benchmarks so they can market that to the youth market. Samsung seemed to throttle the SD888 to stop the overheating, doing this a few months after release to get a more stable and efficient SoC. I think that whilst Qualcomm uses the Samsung fabs then the SD8G1 (SD888) are flawed chipsets, but Qualcomm are rumoured to finally dump Samsung and go back to TSMC (that made the fantastic SD865) so hopefully the SD8G2 will come to the S22 later in the year?
Xiaomi has brought a new cooling system for the Xiaomi 12 series, but it seems that the initial data about this processor, along with a software not yet optimized, have exceeded the cooling capabilities originally designed. All in all, it's a shame that this situation has been reached, because these phones are really different from the other points of view.
Thanks for the honest review. I was thinking of switching back from oneplus 9 pro to xiaomi, but after watching, i feel like sticking to the op 9 pro for the time being.
Hey can you review IQOO 9 series (Vivo's value oriented spinoff)? IQOO phones are quite underrated, last years IQOO 7 flagship had the best thermal performance among SD888 phones, also the phones support LTE Band 20
The Iqoo 9 Pro is not handling the 8gen1 heat very well too. In a thermal throttling test I watched, the Iqoo 9 Pro refused to run Antutu benchmark for 3rd time due to overheating
@@notagain2856 Antutu is extreme case, in day to day to gaming or performance oriented tasks phone doesn't get pressured that much, it will heat 100% performance it will heat up that way eventually because IQOO rarely throttles. IQOO Neo 5S could be another good option
Great video Chris...thanks...I wrote it sometime ago that it seems to me that Xiaomi does not move forward...still persist the same problems as in the past and I don't see any progress (camera setup, bugs, IP ratings and so on...)...I don't think that the problem with the 8 Gen1 is a problem with the chipset itself but it is a software problem of Xiaomi...8 Gen 1 also used in other mobile phones and so far I haven't seen that they would fail in the test...
@@mark46ification Looks like the Iqoo 9 Pro is also very hot. Antutu benchmark crashed when trying to run it for 3rd time. That is a phone with gaming phone cooling system
It was pulled as the video was getting too long but they are basically the same just the Xiaomi 12 is slightly louder you wouldn’t have expected the smaller phone to be louder
Snapdragon is the new MTK in terms of heating issues. Looks like i wont be upgrading this year as well. SD865 and SD870 are still sweet spots for sustained performance IMO Im now curious with the Dimensity 9000
@@Techtablets hope you will review phones with dimensity 9000 when its available. Also waiting for your lenovo tab p12 pro review, hope you will make one 😁
What about your obligatory The Expanse final season review. I liked it but was somewhat disappointed. They need to make more of it. They were building Laconia storyline. Maybe I will need to read the novels if they don't continue.
Seems mi 12 series has serious flaw. Dont know how you could provoke this, as you live in Spain, but now in northern countries there are many units (at least more than 20) who tell that rear cameras (all of 3 of them) cloggs from inside (gets fogged) then they come outside (like from 0 to -10 celsius). And fogged lens stays more than 15mins with no view through. It does not matter of regular condensation, because even if phone are kept cold and gets similar its temperature as outside, if the camera app is turned on and modules activated - it starts to fog up and it stays. As more camera used - more fog. Complete fail. Seems module of sensors and next SD8gen1 heats way too much and metal around camera module causes this issue. No idea how can they solve this for global release/next batch. Hope xiaomi find a way, because that lineup otherwise with attractive desing and features could get wasted.. Chris, maybe you could simulate this test to your environment somehow?
it seems that samsung as a company with which xiaomi competes in the world of smartphones did not have to do anything about the S22 series. Because the xiaomi12 input version is marred by putting a worse processor and screen compared to the pro version. It turns out that the s21 is still a better phone than the newer xiaomi12. samsung has all the premium features except the famous plastic.
Thank you! As always a great review!! I am so disappointed from that Performance.. I actually wanted to upgrade from my Mi 10. Maybe it's time to switch brands after 8 years.. :(
@@DeFacto1991 i am gonna wait a couple more months. The new snapdragon has lots of potential because of its ai. The Mi11 isnt good enough for its price. And the Xiaomi 12 is the first flagchip model they finally ship with a pink version.
Oh Nooooo! You just confirmed the rumors I've been seeing floating around with regards to the new chipset. I was really looking forward to using the Gen 1 power to emulate PS2 on my phone using the new Aether SX2 app. But if they can only push for 20 mins, that's a problem. We may have to wait for some gamer phones with dedicated cooling fans to really see what the chip can do. Thanks for the video.
Phone with dedicated cooling fan seems like a must for your use. Even gaming phone like Iqoo 9 Pro with vapour chamber and huge heat sink struggled to keep the 8gen1 from overheating.
Yes once the gaming phones come with cooling fans it will be good or large tablets with this new SD 8 gen 1 have the room to keep it cooler dissipate more heat.
Great to see you back Chris. Totally agree the 12 series have not been much of an up grade. The big downer though is that we have yet another hot chip from Qualcomm. Thats two yrs in a row. 🤦♂️ The cooling technology on these phones seems to be unable to keep temperatures in check. A Very nice comparison 👍👍

Help me choose between galaxy note 20 ultra and the regular mi 11. Both are of the same price. Advice me please.
Exynos Note 20 ultra? If it’s the snapdragon model I would get it over the Xiaomi
location of the speakers for the xiaomi 13 thoo.. discouraging for gamers as it would easily be blocked
I have always wondered which models get Xiaomi's suite of basic apps (phone, messaging....) & Which ones come with Google's!
Got any Idea?
Redmi series
@@Techtablets Cool
& I guess also rebrands of the Redmi series! Like the Mi 11x and Poco too!
Thanks for your honest review
I do still believe the mi11 looked better in my opinion. It looked more "unique" where this looks more standard in terms of the back. Will check the rest of the vid now!
man the 8 gen 1 oef
It feels almost like a step back from the mi 11
@@Techtablets Did they drop the 'Mi' tag in the naming?
@@Techtablets and finally some small size phones. i hope it's the future.
They did yes
Is there anyone who can tell me what is the app used to see the health of the battery?
Glad to see your vedio
Can I know what is Audio bitrate of xiaomi 12 and pro ... 320 kbps or 96kbps?
96 kbps yet again they have gone backwards 🤦♂️
@@Techtablets oh wow, I noticed sound was distorted from other few videos.. How can they act in such a way.
Great review! Almost as great as that tan 🌞
Haha well I left summer in New Zealand
Incredible..
The 870 is still the most reliable even in 2022
iWatch all the video until the end
Before purchasing devices it's absolutely necessary to watch your reviews..
8:24 they really hate proper corner radius between their screen and body frame don't they? the previous phone was also similar.
Yes they don’t like it 🙄
🐭
Which app do you use to check battery health?
It’s part of antutu
I think they make the new chips thermal throttle to push the gaming phones more
Thanks for the great review @Chris, as usual.
I love it! How you compare every phone. I can make decisions now. Overheating issue on xiaomi12 seems not good
so for gaming better choose realme gt neo2 ?
They will still fix it with am update I believe it lacks optimization
Glad that xiaomi is making the mi12 small and compact..
Super comfort
My Mi 8 is still very solid! So immma wait for next release
i always liked the summery overview at the end of your video's. Can you put that back please? The pro's and cons overview :)
Still looking for an upgrade for my Realme X2 Pro... These phones are not gonna be it...
Oh this isn’t the review that’s coming for both but a comparison
@@Techtablets Thank for the reply and all your reviews, still one of the best!!
Thoughts on iqoo 9 pro ?
Thank you very much - extremely useful, was waiting Xiaomi 12 since my old 10T Pro and now I'm very much disappointed need to look for something else how... Sadly Huawei still banned despite it's new flagship... Vivo X70+ Pro? really have no idea what to get now in 2022
take a look at Asus Zenfone 9✨
actually you must know that the company which was making snapdragon processors has for now stopped making snapdragon processors because of apple and so snapdragon had to go for other producer which is samsung so thats the reason behind but you are lucky to know that there will be two variety of newer SD processors one which is on the market right now other variety will be in market soon which will not over heat
Am using the 888 on the realme gt and no overheating here
I'm curious if they'll adress the heating issue on the 12 ultra or not 🤔
Thanks for the honest review.
TechTablets is one of the best and Honest reviewer out there.👍👍👍
You should be measuring the flickering as well... ❤️
No way for me to measure PWM flicker with my current Spyder X Pro meter and gear
The Moto X30 is running quite hot too. Will have to see if the Oneplus 10 Pro is hot too under stress tests.
@@notagain2856 yes they all heat up...but only Xiaomi failed if I'm not mistaken
@@mark46ification Looks like the Iqoo 9 Pro is also very hot. Antutu benchmark crashed when trying to run it for 3rd time. That is a phone with gaming phone cooling system
why there is no speaker test?
It was pulled as the video was getting too long but they are basically the same just the Xiaomi 12 is slightly louder you wouldn’t have expected the smaller phone to be louder
Nice video but i wish u did their speakers comparison
Snapdragon is the new MTK in terms of heating issues. Looks like i wont be upgrading this year as well. SD865 and SD870 are still sweet spots for sustained performance IMO
Im now curious with the Dimensity 9000
Yes 100% the SD865/865+ and SD870 are still champs.
Yes disappointing a bit I felt they rushed it a little?
Mi11 pro vs mi12pro camera test please.
Great video
That design looks minimalistically good
Seems mi 12 series has serious flaw.
I’ll see if I can test that as it’s about 1 to zero degrees around 3am at night now
I don’t care the phone is good or bad, i just come and enjoy your review only.
Oh well thanks for that 👍🏻
@@Techtablets love you.
Except for you who had the phone in your hand but in the video we can't tell how the pro is brighter than the regular 12 in sunlight
MIUI every update is a "bugs added service"...
it seems that samsung as a company with which xiaomi competes in the world of smartphones did not have to do anything about the S22 series.
Why would you switch from Mi10? is it broken?
@@chupacabre99 The storage isnt enough anymore, already lost 900mah of my battery capacity, a better display and better cameras as a whole.
Get mi 11, mi 11 seems really good and by the looks of it mi 12 isn't worth atm.
@@DeFacto1991 i am gonna wait a couple more months.
The new snapdragon has lots of potential because of its ai.
The Mi11 isnt good enough for its price.
And the Xiaomi 12 is the first flagchip model they finally ship with a pink version.
I watched several vids and it seems to me that the 12 is far better pics than the Pro, or is it just me!?
The cooling technology on these phones seems to be unable to keep temperatures in check.
A Very nice comparison 👍👍
so far i think my mi 11 is much better with the 12.5.11 update it doesnt heat up as much as the miui 12.5.6 i think it will slowly become more well optimized
