Thanks for all the great, long reviews! Here is a super thanks for all the fire work you do (not sure if I used "fire" correctly in a sentence) and hopefully enough to get another pair of shoes or 1.5 pairs for your collection.
thank you so much mark! i appreciate you for all the support and comments - it really helps me keep going. and i'm super thankful for the generous gift 🙏🏽 stay tuned for the shoe you mentioned via email - coming very soon!
Yes! I can't wait to hear Long Run thoughts! I've been eyeing this shoe as the next Long run shoe after I finish out my SC Trainer V1s! Always a fan of PEBA shoes so I'm looking forward to long run thoughts!
Every time you mentioning the hours of your drove back from poconos, the number of hours are even higher every time 😂😂😂😂😂 175 hours you say at the end 😂😂😂😂 I love it man. A whole eternity feeling wise 😂🙏
That was fun to watch 😂you’re hilarious. I also like how it stopped raining once you were done running lol Great informative video overall. Been waiting for this shoe to drop! I’m excited.
Few weeks ago I felt like my legs died on me too while doing my long run in a thunderstorm, and I think it might be the substantial weight gain in the shoes from absorbing so much water and getting covered in mud.
Yeah great point - the shoe felt super heavy after wading through that water haha I wish I weighed it again after. I weighed the triumph 22 after a rainstorm run and it gained ~30 grams
Got almost 400 miles in my Invincible 3's and they still feel as good as they did at 250 miles, which surely has surprised me as I've never had a shoe make it over 300 before the midsole was done. So hearing your first impression liking it to the Invincible has my interest. I do have the Rebel V4, and I do love how much lighter and airy it is. Though the NB foam compared against zoomX, I prefer zoomX, I feel the rebound better, and it's not as soft as the freshfoam compound. As you put miles on this is there a chance to see a 300 mile comparison of this to the Invincible 3?
Surprised New Balance didn't put the Balos under embargo and let you put out a review. Might be the first NB shoe I try as I've been looking for the right one to use.
Helll yeahhh getting it in the rain I’m running th rebel v4 shit sick I had the 880 v13 shit I put 550 miles on them shit was a brick to the rebel v4 light as shit
Interesting to see how much water the upper soaked up..some of the more plush uppers can weigh a lot when running in rain..I still enjoy running in the rain when it's hot outside..nice video😊
I forgot to weigh it after but it felt SUPER heavy towards the end. My legs also gave up on me so I'm sure I was feeling that too 😂 if it rains again I'll weigh it after
Is it breathable? Some of the reviewers says the 1080v13 is hot when u wear for a long time in the hot weather. I wonder if this improves the breathability, better than 1080v13
I only had about 30 minutes in it before it got soaked in the rain but the breathability felt just okay. It felt like my foot was heating up a bit but I'm not sure if it was more than other daily trainers - stay tuned for more testing on that
curious on a comparison with the hoka clifton 9! The balos and the clifton both seem to fall under the comfortable and fun category. And come in some cool colors : )
Balos is a beautiful lagoon in Crete, island in Greece. Some describe the water there as a turquoise. Maybe this shoe is new balances ode to the Minotaur?
Very, very nice. You hit the big time. Could you comment on how it fits compared to the 1080? I only buy online and I never return shoes so how it fits is one of the primary things I look for in review videos. Toe box width, toe box height and midfoot volume. This is the first running review of the Balos that I have seen. I've done the drive from NH to NC, FL, SC many times when our kids were growing up and you need a lot of energy for those drives.
Fit seemed a little snugger than the 1080 but still comfortable. I have the 1080 in half a size up though. And those road-trips are definitely something!
The Triumph sounded like it would fall in the same category when they announced it will get PowerrunPB, thought it would be like a plateless Endorphin Speed. Sounds like the Balos is the shoe I’ve been waiting for
Yeah this or the new Topo Specter 2 is what you're looking for! Specter 2 is a little firmer and more stable but still has classic race foam pop. Just posted my first run video on that one last night
I'm curious to hear your thoughts going forward about which shoes might give you 90% of what you're getting here but without the $200 price tag. I think that could be a tough sell, especially when NB is coming out with the Fuel Cell, plated SC Trainer v3 shortly. Also, the rain. I've done the running and biking in the rain before but, at my age, I think I'm over that.
Novablast for relaxed miles and relaxed long runs, rebel for short and fast runs and balos for a super fun and bouncy ride. Balos v rebel for short and fast runs is going to be the tough question though 🤔 will have to get to that comparison soon
@Yowana, Love the channel and the super informative videos. Who does the music for the channel? Can you link them? Digging those instrumental tunes in your videos.
Hey man I know you pound these out so I’m sure there’s a backlog of video ideas. One that I’d love to see would be the 860v14 vs the 1080v13 vs the 880v14 or even the 860v14 vs the brooks ghost 16. Anyways I’m in a decision paralysis here. 😂 I need a recovery/ more chill shoe. Leaning towards 1080 but you talk very highly of the cushion of the 860v14. My other shoes are… NB FC Ev4, Novablast 4, and tbd!
For recovery and relaxed miles I'd take the 1080 over any of those. I love the 860v14 because it's so versatile but the 1080 is the best recovery shoe - super soft and comfortable. Hopefully that helps break the analysis paralysis 😩
Would like to see more of this shoe. I’m debating between this and the Cloudmonster hyper for my second do it all shoe to rotate with the superblast 2.
I've put a few more runs on it this week - it's a lot softer than the hyper and the bounce is way more noticeable at slower paces. The hyper feels more like a normal daily trainer that then comes alive with some bounce when I ran fast. Also stability is much better on the hyper. If you're looking to pair with the superblast, I would go for the Balos since it'll give you a much different ride (very soft and bouncy at all paces). The buttoned-up ride of the Hyper is more similar to the superblast and both have a specialty toward longer distances
@@supwell thanks for the quick reply and insight! I think you’ve just confirmed what I was thinking anyway. I also have never tried a new balance shoe so I’m looking forward to giving the Balos a shot.

Is the rocker/ride anything like the Hoka Cielo?
I don't think we'll see those sc elite colorways unfortunately - I believe they're only putting them on the fuelcell shoes. But yes cielo x1 is a great comparison. Rocker and bounce is very similar to that - foam/general experience is a touch softer and a bit more unstable though given it's non plated. I ran again in the balos this afternoon and the lack of stability compared to other training shoes I've run in really stuck out to me - even with the wider platform
Thanks! And just as soft but a little bouncier and wider. The EVA on the bottom also helps stiffen it and reinforce the rocker more - the 1080 isn't very rockered. This is more versatile for me than the 1080
hahaha wow i hadn't thought of it like that... i don't think quite yet but give it 18 months and you're spot on. i actually think the vaporfly 4 is going to have a different version of zoomx that's denser and more like lightstrike pro
@@MegaYummyjellyI would get the ghost max 1 for walking. The changes to the 2 will likely improve the running experience but not walking (bouncier foam doesn't really matter for long on feet/standing walking)
I live in hot a** Florida which kept me from getting the 1080’s cause they’re upper is way to warm- you mentioned this upper is also warm. Can you compare the two, is the Balos about the same in that regard?
I feel your pain out here in North Carolina! It felt a little hot before the rainstorm started, but I'd also had the same socks on all day after driving (and they weren't my normal running socks). Stay tuned for more on that one
@Yowana, I love your reviews! I have a couple questions about the Balos since I live in the CO mountains and there isn’t a shoe store anywhere near me. I use the Rebel4 and Mach6 for most of my training runs but have been interested in the Balos. I dislike the super high stack midsoles, especially the much soft ones such as the More, because they make me feel like I’m working harder. But I’m thinking I may want more cushion when I get into my higher double digit marathon LR’s (even though I’m a very petite and lightweight female). I infer the Balos-while soft-is responsive so would you say they won’t have that running-in-sand feeling that makes me feel like I’m working harder on easy runs? Also re: fit, I ended up going up 1/2 size in the Rebel4. Does the Balos have exactly the same amount of space in front of your toes as your Rebel4 (assuming you have the same size in both)? If I need to order it I need to know if the lengths are the same. Thanks!
It's great to hear from you and thank you!The balos is a great shoe but with the Mach 6 and rebel v4 already you may have a lot of overlap - it's not that much different from the Mach 6. I'd suggest considering a carbon plated shoe like the Saucony endorphin pro 4 - it's comfortable and easy to run in, and still soft, but the plate adds a little more structure and pop to it for those longer runs. If you're set on the balos though I think you'll enjoy it for those 2 hour runs if you like super soft. I took it up to 1:40 and it was great
Thanks @yowana for the reply. My marathon race shoe is already the Endorphin Pro. I prefer v3 over v4 for racing so stocked up on late manufacturing dates (the last colorway) during Saucony’s sale on them before they completely sold out, so I’m saving them for CIM and Boston. It was really helpful to hear my trainers are similar enough to the Balos😅. I’m just getting into the double digit LR’s for this block so I think I should be ok. Thanks so much for confirming that!
New Balance shoes were failing for me recently, so I avoid this brand entirely for now. The upper mesh was deteriorating on the side wall, coming loose from the sole, right after some months of wearing. This happenend to three pairs of newer running shoes using this new mesh upper material. The customer support service was not helpful either, saying I was wearing the wrong size, although this is just not true.
Brooks ghost max over everything 😂 More v5 is also great and Charli has been loving it for walking. Can't get it off her feet since she opened the box. It's much softer than the 860 though so I would still probably take the 860 for long hours on feet traveling and exploring a city
@@supwell Thanks! Do you anticipate any new releases beating these two for walking by Sept/Oct? Safe to pull the trigger now or wait it out. I figure I need to break them in too before my trip in Oct.
yeah i think the issue is that the sc trainer is already at that $180 price point and then the 1080v13 is at $165. so they were forced to make it $200... we'll see how it sells. but if it's not moving they will most definitely start discounting it
Hahaha I got distracted by how soft and rockered it is 😂 But I just slipped it on again for you and length fits true to size, it's a little snugger width-wise and lower volume than other new balance shoes like the rebel v4 but I would order your normal size if you get it
Definitely a lot snugger than the superblast in equivalent sizes. Superblast is known to run a little big - if you have both in the same size on paper, the superblast will run bigger

yeah i think the issue is that the sc trainer is already at that $180 price point and then the 1080v13 is at $165. so they were forced to make it $200... we'll see how it sells. but if it's not moving they will most definitely start discounting it
don’t catch a cold out there..
42:12 sounds like you're running under water!!!
👍🏻
It aimt training if it aint raining 😅
Ground contact Eva on a 200 dollars shoe is absolutely ridiculous… hola type beat fr zero durability and grip probs
Hoka type beat 😂💀
The grip was actually insanely good in the pouring rain though. I'm not too optimistic about durability though
Like bruh do you even lift bro
Sounds over priced
1 hour plus for first run review? OMG. I used to like you videos, Yowana. But it seems getting longer & longer overtime.
Hate to say it but it looks like a sketchers. Not digging the design.
Skechers copy off other company designs 🧐
bro, you totally miss the fit part of the review 🥲 it’s more on feel
Hahaha I got distracted by how soft and rockered it is 😂 But I just slipped it on again for you and length fits true to size, it's a little snugger width-wise and lower volume than other new balance shoes like the rebel v4 but I would order your normal size if you get it
@@supwell all good bro! i was like did i just miss the fit part and had to go back to confirm 😅 would you say it’s more snug than the superblast?
Definitely a lot snugger than the superblast in equivalent sizes. Superblast is known to run a little big - if you have both in the same size on paper, the superblast will run bigger
