ASICS Superblast 2

  • Given how successful version 1 of the Superblast was, it would be understandable if ASICS just gave us a minor update for version 2. But ASICS went a bit further than just changing the upper. They updated the Turbo foam and updated the Blast + foam. But are these changes for the better? Or did ASICS fix what wasn’t broken? It’s time to lace up the Superblast 2 and take it for a run.

Asics has to surely be the shoe brand of the year. With the Metaspeed Paris, Novablast 4, Gel Nimbus 26, Magic Speed 4, Superblast 2, Max Trabuco 3, and the kayano 31 that is one hell of a shoe line up.

Add me to the list of OG Superblast superfans. It's rare for a company to absolutely nail a shoe design with V1, but ASICS pulled it off with SB1. So much so that it's one of the very few shoes I own more than one pair of. I'm glad they didn't ruin it in V2 and improved the two things I had minor quibbles about -- the upper, and the pebble collectors in the outsole. 👍And complain about the price all you want, but they can't keep 'em in stock which should tell you that it's priced what it's worth to us fans!

    Asics rocks !
I started this July running super fast in a pair of my Magic Speed 3 and today (Tuesday) I did a long run in my moderate speed on my Gel-Cumulus 26. Wednesday is to relax in an easy short run on my Gel-Nimbus 26 and July 4th the run will be done on the Nova Blast 4 !
All shoes from Asics that I got até just amazing and super stable for my overpronation needs.

I really can't say enough nice things about Superblast 1. It's my #2 favorite shoe of all time (after the NB SC Elite V3). Speaking as someone who owns all three of the original illegal stack height shoes, I've always loved how the SB1 sits right between the PX and SCT1. The (OG) PX doesn't like it when you go slow. The SCT1 doesn't like it when you go fast. But the SB1 is a goldilocks shoe that doesn't care what pace you take. It eats it all up. And it does its magic without a plate. Or even multiple. And it's the lightest of the three. With SB1 I don't have to decide beforehand what type of day I want to have. I can listen to my body and adjust my workout on the fly.

My biggest complaint about the originals was that they were never in stock. Although the Superblast 2 haven't even been released yet, they're already sold out in most sizes for pre-order according to the website. I hope ASICS figures out how to meet demand.

Interesting comparison to the Neo Vista & Invincible 3, Mike. I took the Neo Vista for a 16 miles run and really enjoy it. I'll test it again on the 20mile run this weekend.
I love the Invincible 2 but couldn't get myself to run in Invincible 3 with the heel slip. It looks like this is the end of Invincible line for now as Nike said the new one will be called Vomero +.
I agree with you mix and match with alternate sets. I ran in Novablast 4, Magic speed 3, Nimbus 25 and Superblast. Love them all. for their purposes. Not a fan of Metaspeed though, as a heel striker.

SB1, NB4, Metaspeed Paris etc etc have been sold out for months everywhere in Australia - I don't hold out much hope of SB2 being available anytime soon.
Similarly in Nike range - AF3 may be a fantastic race shoe - but unless you are a respected shoe-tuber I haven't seen anyone been able to find a pair!

So, my conclusion here is that also works as a “marathon racer for slow speed runners”:
    - comfortable, stable hits the sweet spot of those runners
    - suited for slower paces w/o the plate. Designed for long distances.
    - can get you through 4.5 plus hours running or on foot
    - doesn’t generate overkill with racing designed foam, plates, profile
    - to its detriment, it is heavier than a true racer (but it’s not ultra heavy like a Hoka Skyward)
    - it can pick up speed up to a slower, tired runner’s pace. It will respond. Not ferrari level but low end torque type.

And I really loved the Novablast 4's for my long runs but after a while it started to feel unstable with the weird geometry of the forefoot/mid & heel. so I'm hoping the Superblast 2 will give me the same comfort and last much MUCH longer!

@@laalaa99stl like I said, the geometry is different. I'm a neutral runner. I own the Neo Vista's. I don't have a problem with stability. The problem was with the geometry of the Novablast 4's. That lil cut out in the mid foot where the drop is, is where I was having the issue. The Superblast doesn't have the same geometry in the midsole.

A review I had been waiting for. My situation is rather interesting, I finally managed to get hold of a pair of SB1 just couple weeks ago, given how difficulty it has been for past few weeks and not knowing how SB2 will end up being. Your review is very encouraging and all my shoes are literally based on your reviews and recommendations, they just work for me. Question is, should I return SB1 and go for SB 2 or keep my SB1 and go for SB2 may be later in year? Thank you for review Mike, loved it

If it were me, I’d rack up the miles in the Superblast 1 since you’ve already got it, and then move over to the Superblast 2 when you’re ready.
I’m hoping that supply issues don’t plague v2 like they did for v1

I just purchased mach 6's and vomero17's, for my tempo and easy runs.
Do you think it would be a good idea to return both and get these instead? The SB1 was my favorite long run shoe.

Thank you for your review. How 's the fit? I really like the roomy toe box in the SB ORG. Is the SB 2 has the same?

Great review, thanks a lot! I am searching for an allround shoe for longer distances up to a marathon. Bought the New Balance SC Trainer V2 and it is too soft and mushy and gives me sore knees and shins. Would SB2 be that soft or could it work? Originally I want to update from Zoom Fly 5 that works quite well but they may be a bit low on energy return. Any thoughts from you would be amazing 🤩

Great review! I'm a lightweight runner (61kg) training for a half marathon race (target pace 01:40:00), and I finally found a place with SB V1. I currently use the Sacouny Speed 3 for most of my runs. Would the SB fit my rotation as a light runner? and should I wait for the SB V2?

Choosing between neo vista or superblast 2 for long runs. This helps a bit.

Is Superblast suitable for people with wider midfoot and forefoot?
How does it compare in this regard with Novoblast 4?

1st version in my opinion is for stride runners not for cadence. Sometimes it felt uncomfortable on the Heel Counter which affects your stride and if you reach 100km, i felt my heel is hurting already, probably they can improve the foam of the second version. Yes, its bouncy and springy which I love.

My size sold out before I could get a pair!!! Ugggg Honestly want a different colorway (like the white/grey others have shown) so I'll wear out my Mizuno Flash 2's while I wait...

Whilst I appreciate all your reviews and effort that goes into them, my thoughts on the OG are that is was massively over-hyped, clever marketing keep supply low and build that anticipation and need to find a pair. I found a pair and the colour way is gorgeous, great looking shoe and fits perfect BUT each of the runs I dare do in them my feet feel beat up, and if the feet come away ok a niggle comes somewhere else which honestly leaves me scared to use them again, they only have 90km in them and look brand new but will always pull something else from my rotation which is quite large so im lucky to have alternatives. Wanted to love it, especially with the effort I went to to get a pair but it will just stay on the shelf looking pretty until i get iron legs and feet. At 53 I have to be more protective of my body, sadly

I’ll start out by saying it’s totally ok to not like a shoe that others enjoy. But it’s also a great time to be a runner. There are many options so suit many different preferences.
But the corollary to that is there may be shoes that others love that I don’t find all that enjoyable. That doesn’t mean that anyone is trying to hype me or trick me. That’s just not a shoe for me and that’s ok - the Mizuno Neo Vista shoe cited in this video is a prime example of that. Other people love it and that’s great.
Hopefully, you can find a rotation of shoes that you love and that might require finding a reviewer who has shoe preferences that line up more closely with what you enjoy.

@@kofuzi maybe I'm reading your reply wrong but I did not say you were trying to trick anyone with your reviews or opinions, my comment was aimed at the clever marketing people at Asics. I like a lot of shoes you do and as you say we are all different. I don't buy shoes from what RUclipsrs say either, well maybe the superblast was an influencer purchase LOL, I make my own opinions when I have ran in them myself, some get shelved some get returned.
Marketing is all trickery and hype, that is the name of the game, how do you get the end user to buy the product. RUclipsrs are part of the marketing tools the manufacturers now use, part of the social media power house which is the new Alpha in sales and marketing.
spoilt for choice these days we are.

So then where do the Kayano and even Kinsei slot in? It seems to me the Kayano is a stability shoe that maybe tries to be both an everyday shoe and a long/slow shoe? But I have no idea what the Kinsei is for.
