Yep Novablast 4 for me as a mile muncher non-trail shoe that has a massive pace spread, I have close to 400 miles on mine and they still feel great, I have my 5K PB, marathon PB and I also used them for the last 30miles of a 100mile Ultra, thats as versatile as it gets!
350 miles in less than 3 months speaks volume about how much you like the shoes 😄You're spot on about SB being firm. I see people expected it to be more "soft" partly because it's advertised as 'bouncy' shoes. Personally I found the firmness of SB has helped the energy return remain constant after 20k plus, something softer shoes are hard to achieve. Great review as always, Ben!!
Yup, I put mine on and started walking around and was worried because they felt so firm. As soon as I started running it just melted away and is the perfect balance of cushion and support with great energy return. Favorite shoe ever
@@davidpless8486 For real, they're badass for long distance training. The shoe might not be fitting well for easier/slower sessions when the cushion is still fresh and new but I found SB is even comfortable enough for recovery and easy days after 500k mark. I still have SB1 currently at 800km and it still working like a charm. I won't second guess to get myself a new pair of SB1 in the coming Black Friday if the availability permits lol
Great video! First shoe I have ever bought a second pair of. It just ticks all the boxes. Have currently ran over 300k in them and they still feel basically the same as when I took them out of the box for the first time. The biggest surprise to me has been the outsole grip and durability. I expect it to easily reach 800k. Very happy I was able to buy a second pair when the new colourways dropped. Other shoes feel boring compared to this one.
I was very lucky when I went into Derby Runner earlier this year when I looking for a replacement for my Sarchony Triumph 21s and was shown a selection of different shoes which included the Superblast 2s, so it was a complete no-brainer getting these at that time. They were awful for my first run, (as I have a narrow foot), but after that and when adopted a runners knot for these, the uppers had moulded in to the shape of my foot, they have simply been superb and easily the best, overall running shoes that I have ever had! As an alternative, I would now go for Novablast 4s!
Thank you for including the various currencies! it's so helpful to be able to compare when I have a better frame of reference to how much it would really cost me :)
I got the SB 1 earlier this year. Most of my long training runs done in it. I did the Gold Coast Marathon in July and continued training and have just done the Sydney Marathon last weekend. All in the SB 1. A phenomenal shoe, comfortable, no issues and I also prefer a slightly firmer ride. Worked better for me than the Adidas Adizero Pro 3 !! Paired my SB 1 with the Asics Noosa Tri 15 this year. No carbon plate required. Will 100% get the SB 2.
Love this shoe so much too and just picked up a 2nd pair now that they restocked. I like that they are not super soft, but on a more firm side, they are perfect for the long runs, but also to pick up the pace when needed. Price point, yes it is expensive, but for a shoe you can get get at least 700 miles out of and probably more, it is right on. It is the best daily trainer, do it all shoe I have ever had.
Thanks Ben! I really appreciate these long term reviews :) Most youtubers do early impressions which is fine but most shoes feel good out of the box anyways. The true value is knowing how they hold up after many miles :)
I was able to get the v1 from my local running shop and enjoyed it so much. Was able to run 200 kms within 2 months in it. My pre ordered v2 hasn’t arrived yet and might pre order another pair as soon as it arrives. I enjoy it so much because of the versatility that it offers. It’s comfortable for my long runs, can handle my fast paces and even my slowest pace.
Yeah I'd love a few reviews of that shoe. I'm worried I can't get a replacement pair of the Superblast 2 so thinking about alternatives for when they conk out
So glad I bought the SB2 as soon as it was launched. I was a little unsure about the Paris colorway at first but after seeing the recent colorways, I think this one is the best.
I managed to get my hands on a pair of the Paris version online from the Netherlands, then got saddled with an unexpected £75 customs and VAT charge. Oh Brexit, let me count the ways I love thee
the UK Asics website actually ships from the Netherlands but you don't pay additional fees. not that they ever have stock. tracked the parcel for my SB1 all the way from the netherlands and the courier hid them behind some bins up the road. i had to walk around looking for them and got them luckily. 175 miles on them and looking for SB2's. expecting a long wait until they drop a batch i can get.
I have two pairs of Skyward X, and I recently picked up Superblast 2. Most of my runs are at easy z2 paces, so my SkyX's get a lot of action. The SB2 is there for days when I want to crank my HR a bit.
The best about you.. You always think about us the average runners. You do not talk only about yourself & your preference... Thanks for your reviews.. Help a lot.. Now I'm using Novablast 4.. & yes I cannot find Superblast 2 yet.
Yet another great review Ben, thank you. As a novice Novablast 3 and 4 are my everyday shoes and I have a pair of Superblast for my race shoe. Will be keeping an eye out for the Superblast 2. Keep up the amazing content 😊
I am still having a pair of the first edition of the superblast that still has a few hundred km to go, but given all the fuzz with the availability and all the hype, I knew that it would be unclear if I could get them at a later stage, so I did purchase a pair of SB2. I haven't used them so far though, as I have plenty of other shoes in my current rotation and I still need to finish breaking in the metaspeed edge paris for my (first) marathon next month as well. Once that's done and my focus isn't on the final phase of the marathon-training anymore, I will put the SB2 into action. My daily trainer has been the Nimbus for a few iterations already and I really love it. It's great for easy runs, long runs (have done 30+km with them) and as a recovery shoe.
I love the Superblast 2 for all sorts of runs. Especially in the Paris colourway. For races I prefer the Saucony Endorphine Pro 4. But all other runs, the Superblast 2 is my go to shoe. I bought two pairs immediately when they came out. And I was very lucky as I found an Italian online retailer last week who had one pair left in the Paris colourway in my size. So, three pairs in total now which will bring me through this and next year 😊
I was doing my own research for SB2 alternatives about a month ago after I gave up all hope of ASICS ever restocking in my size. I had also been checking eBay most days and a couple of weeks ago found a new pair of the Paris colourway in my size.... The cost was upwards of £200... Thinking I would never find it again on eBay or the Asics website again I bit the bullet and went for it. The very next day they'd restocked the new violet and grey/powder blue colourways 😂 couldn't believe it! Don't regret it so much now though as absolutely love the Paris colourway.
Thank you for a brilliant review, attempting to answer the biggest question we all face since the release of the almighty Superblast - what are the alternatives? Their greatest superpower (and there are many), in my mind, is their durability. From a pair of Hoka Cliftons (or anything from Hoka...), I struggle to get more than 280km before they feel dead. Same with Asics Novablast, they just die really quick. But Superblasts are now up to 500km and show no signs of flattening out. Pretty cool.
I LOVE my Skyward X shoes. Heavy and expensive, but there is just soooooo much cushion it makes them worth it. Looking forward to the full review from Ben!
Great to hear your honest opinion on the SB2. I've been reserving it just for my long runs, and I do the bulk of my easy running in the Novablast 4. It took me a while to find my groove with the SB2, one of my favourite long run routes is on some rolling hills and I find the rear of the shoe quite clunky and it make running downhill with good form difficult and I end up actually going quite slow in it on those sections, I swapped to my Novablast 4 for the same route the other week and it felt so much more natural going downhill. One thing I love about the SB2 is my feet feel well looked after at the end of a long run. So I like the SB2 but it's not a game changer for me.
Great vid as always I got my pair of SB2's about 4 weeks ago.. does everything brilliantly! Shoe rotation is now SB2 for all training and race day shoe... just wish they were easier to get hold of
Great review and content as always. I'm pleased that I got a pair when it was released. It's amazing for long runs and workouts. I even used it for a tough marathon. San Francisco. My only critique is the upper. The knit isn't the best in humid/wet conditions. It absurd moisture like a sponge.
Just when I got tired of waiting for SB2 to appear in stock and ordered Puma Deviate Nitro 3 - that exact evening exactly my size of SB2 appeared on Amazon :) so now just waiting delivery while getting used to Pumas, let's see how that goes
I think is safe to note that while yes the Superblast is very expensive it's also very long lasting. plus 1100km in every pair I've owned. I already have my version 2 pairs lined up and went through 3 V1 already. It's just an amazing shoe.
I loved the Nike Pegasus turbo, you did too. Same with the Nike invincible (first versions). And so then when you said you loved this, it was time for me to test an ASICS shoe. I started laughing my first run in the ASICS superblast, it felt so good and it was so fast. Has been my go to shoe for training for Berlin this year.
Another alternative would be the Topo Specter 2… 37/32mm stack of relatively firm Pebax, fairly lightweight, no plate, versatile speed range, and that classic Topo fit!
I haven’t been able to get the Superblast 2 in my size, such a bummer! I loved the first version. Just today, I ordered the Brooks Glycerin Max, excited for them to arrive.
I ran Ultravasan i the Superblast 2, a 92km trail run! I had the shoe on for 8 and a half hours without a single nag och discomfort. It’s simply the best shoe out there atm. 😊
Hi Ben another great video thanks! I am in the Novablast 4 at the moment ( recommended by a chap in Runners Need as an alternative to the Mach 5 ). An amazing do it all shoe and I just love the ride and durability - 400km so far and the soles still look pretty good. Hoping that Santa might bring me a pair of Superblasts though!
I'm just here for the alternatives... just because that SB and SB2 are just so dang hard to get here in Canada! Happy for all those who got a pair... extremely jealous for all those who got multiples already.
They're way easy to get in the US. They had full stock for like a week of the newer colorways before they started to run out of sizes. Hopefully this will translate to other parts of the world as well soon.
I managed to get hold of a pair direct from Asics. Two months later and I returned them (thank you Asics 90 trial window) as I was getting a lot of discomfort in my shins whenever I wore them. I think the shoe is incredible still, but as a heavier runner who overpronates, I think that the problem was actually me. Have now moved back to my Noosa Tri 15 and have bought some Puma Forever Run Nitro for my longer runs.
Thanks I’ve been looking for a review like this with super trainers I’m a heavier runner and need a lot of cushioning and wide toe box for marathon racing for sub 4 hour finish
Just received my pair of Glideride Max. I would love to try the SB but they don’t make them in my size. I’ve always had good luck with the fit from ASICS so hopefully the Glideride Max works out for my long runs.
This is exactly what i wanted to know. SB is great but I need alternatives because it’s perpetually out of stock. Heads should roll in ASICS supply chain department
An underrated plus to the SB 2's firmness is it is way more accommodating for heavier runners. I previously had a pair of Novablast 3s that I had to retire at only 350km because the midsole had quite literally twisted to the point the sole no longer sits flat. I would also feel them bottom out when gunning it down hills. At my 100kg the superblasts however feel so much more stable. No bottoming out, no sideways roll in the midsole, pretty much a perfect long run trainer for me.
300km and marathon in mine and they still feel like day 1.... I was super happy about the title with the alternative but unfortunately like you said there is no other shoe like it... ahhh well i'll skip more runs in the SB2 so hopefully when they need to be change the stocks will come up! Thanks for the great review!
I feel the Hoka Mach X has very similarities to this shoe. It's for me a cheaper alternative that can perform really well. It has been performing well for me.
Supply in the U.K. is the issue for most of us for the SB1 and 2.. you just can’t find regular sizes. I gave up on the 1 but purchased the 2 from the US. Wish the influencers would ask ASICS what they are doing with supply!
I got a pair of the superblasts 2. They’re nice but I don’t notice much difference between them and the novablast 4s. I ran a marathon in the novablasts earlier this year and they were great.
I almost have 200 km in my superblast 2. Love them. I could run different kind of runs in them. But I only use them for my 2h plus runs. Have other shoes for daily miles or fast 1 hour runs. doubled up with the grey and mint colorway :)
Hey Ben, I've been enjoying this shoe as well. I am currently using the Paris colorway and I love the ride so much that I even bought a second pair which is the black colorway which soldout here in the U.S. in about 3 days. They still have the other colorways available though..
Got the Superblast 2 but it's just too big, feels like a trip hazard on my feet 😞. I'm searching for an alternative for long runs & my first marathon next year. Love seeing the 350 mile review, one foot old, one foot new, is a great comparison 🙂. Looking forward to trying Brooks Glycerin Max.
I managed to get a Paris colorway that I've been wearing since they dropped. And i was surprisingly able to get a pair of the Magenta colorway as well when those dropped! My favorite shoe is the Mizuno Neo Vista's but #2 is definitely the Superblast 2's
Got the SB2 paris at launch. Got me through Sydney mrathon last weekend, felt great throughout, even though due to injuries & illness i haven't ran over 26k for 18 months prior to this.
What are ASICS playing at? It’s as if they don’t want to make a profit. Produce a standout product then don’t order enough supply to meet the demand. Shocking.
I have 400 miles in my Adios Pro3 and about 380 miles in Novablast 4s. Amazing how the latter's outsole is completely smooth and slippery but the Pro3s are holding up well!
Agree about going down a half size, it's actually a little longer than my novablast 4 in the same UK size. To me the shoe just feels like a firmer, slightly more efficient version of the novablast 4, I really like it but it did feel a bit blocky for the first few miles. I can already tell it's softening up though as I put more miles into it, and I can tell your shoe has softened up a lot compared to mine because you were able to bend yours, and I physically can't bend mine lmao
I have 2 long run shoes. Superblast 2 for faster pace. ( 4.30 - 5.30 km/min ) Mizuno neo vista for Slower pace. ( above 5.30km/min ) And it's perfect for me.
The NB balos is a great shoe that has some similarities. It’s way softer so the top end it’s not as fast but overall, I feel like it is a good alternative. I’ve been doing all my runs in them recently.
I think a good comparison to the New Balance Fresh Foam X Balos would be interesting review also.......This shoe has really interested me this year, plus it comes in at the same price.
I just wait for the Superblast 2 ...at some point next year you will get them. They will still be amazing to buy in 2025. At least I want to try them in a shop but none have them right now lol
I have both - love the ES4 for shorter interval and tempo/threshold speed sessions up to about HM distance whereas, as Ben suggests, the SB2 is more geared towards your longer runs during HM/marathon training where you want to switch between easy pace and then pick it up for some chunks at race pace effort.
Hi Ben! Could you do a video on the durability of different racing and training shoes? The more brands you include in the test/mention the better. You can find standard information online that states a durability of 300-500 miles, but that is too general.
I think the adidas supernova Prima is a solid alternative to the superblast . Does everything the superblast does but slightly denser and better stability. Not as light though.
The big problem remains - for a manufacturer who has catered well for larger footed runners. The Superblast isn't made for runners with sizes around 50.5 plus. As if to say people like me don't want to run fast, and sadly neither do the other options you mention. Please have a word with them Ben, you could be our only hope.
I was in a holiday trip in Osaka Japan and dropped by Asics shop in Namba. I was surprised to see Superblast 2 just sitting there and cost only Y14,000 or 121 quid😱 I had to double check the price 🤯 of course I bought one 😎
I actually got the Superblast 2 paris at launch, and i sent it back after about 30k. Not that its a bad shoe, but compared to my Superblast 1, it was stiffer/firmer, and the added stack in the heal kept getting in my way running mid and forfoot a bit. Overall though, it felt more like a nimbus 26 in slower miles. I dont like the Nim26 at all. It so stiff. And i think the first superbalst did a far better job at being the most comfortable shoe ever, than what both nim25 or 26 were advertising to be. So i guess for me it was probably a feel over use desicion on my end to sent it back. ordered a second superblast 1 now, and will probably give the superblast 2 another chance if they do another sunrise red colourway :D
How do you send a shoe back after using it for 30k or however long? The shop CANNOT sell the shoe as new! The only one return policy for used shoes i know of (and i am sure there is so much i don't know) is Brooks itself, and those is really astounding with 90 days done to the shoe whatever you want. So basically, you can run the shoe into the ground and then exchange it for a new one. I hope nobody exploits this, because then those return policy will change for sure. I've basically always heard of the SB2 beeing like a brocken in SB1 - so beeing, a tiny bit softer. Added stack? Both SB1 and SB2 have the same stack (official difference is 0.5 milimeters!) I also hate the Nimbus 26, it is too sinky soft and the outsole slaps onto the ground like crazy - so loud, no matter what you do! And after running in it the first time, my calves were cooked! So, having debunked a few things, i would suggest that you probably didn't get an original SB2 but a fake one. I cannot be 100% sure since i don't have a SB2, because i haven't even run in my SB1 that much. But more in my Novablast 4 TR.
Was hoping you’d rep the PUMA MagMax or Brooks glycerin max. I think if those two shoes are received well- it will light a fire under the ass of ASICS to increase product manufacturing bc they will be losing sales (even more than they are now).
Hi Ben, thanks. I've got Superblast OG and still runining in them, now I have 945km and the shoe is still almost the same as at the begining, no big visible difference. I also managed to get version 2, but as the Superblast is the most durable shoe I've ever had, version 2 sits nicely in the box. TBH, I don;t know when would really need to stop OG and move to version 2 :) and maybe also Hoka Mach X2 could be good alternative based on reviews I've seen. I plan to try Mach X2 as this looks to me a similar as Superblast. But I basically Superblast is unique shoe, nothing wiht the same ride and verstatility, durability and light weight, all these packed in one supertrainer. All the Best!
I have the OG SB and bought the Hoka Mach X 2 a few weeks ago. Love the shoes but the plate beats up my achilles and calfs. Don't intend to use them for long runs, after initial runs, but definitely tempo/MP sessions. They are also great for intervals. Poppy, light and comfort. Hopefully I'll get the SBv2 soon 🤞🏽
@@spou20 Hi , thanks. Yeah, long runs are exactly those where I wouldn't expect from Mach X2 to be an alternative for SB. Just have some worries about heel counter. I've seen some folks complain about rubbing or irritating Achilles.
I have the Neo Vistas. My only gripe is that I feel more unstable especially in the ankles. If running on trails or uneven surfaces, I feel much more likely to twist an ankle. I find that they really activate my shin splints more than other shoes as well. That being said, extremely soft/bouncy.
350 miles into my first pair of Superblast 2 and they’re still absolutely solid! I jumped when I got an availability notification a while back for the new color way (which, admittedly, I’m not a huge fan of), and when I tried them out I honestly couldn’t tell much of a difference aside from maybe the newer shoe feeling a bit more heel slip (not enough to be uncomfortable, though - just a brand-new-shoe-thing). I picked up some Saucony Endorphin Pro 3 on a killer deal a while back thinking I’d use them for a November marathon, but honestly I’m pretty sure I’m just gonna stick with the Superblast 2 for the race after all :) For anyone that happened to read this far and has experience in both: What are people’s thoughts about how the Metaspeed Sky (or Edge) Paris feel compared to the Superblast 2?
Yep Novablast 4 for me as a mile muncher non-trail shoe that has a massive pace spread, I have close to 400 miles on mine and they still feel great, I have my 5K PB, marathon PB and I also used them for the last 30miles of a 100mile Ultra, thats as versatile as it gets!

I like a lot my SB1 but was very surprised with the NB Balos, a great contender !
Nike sucks welcome to ASICS
Another alternative would be the Topo Specter 2… 37/32mm stack of relatively firm Pebax, fairly lightweight, no plate, versatile speed range, and that classic Topo fit!
I'm super satisfied with my superblasts❤❤🏃♂️
Thank you for the review, recommendation, and follow-up video-these are some of the best shoes I’ve ever owned!
It’s the best shoe, was so lucky to get a pair. Also took it round the Big Half for a moderate run and it was superb, even when I wilted in the heat.
Great review Ben.I love my superblast 2.Best shoes I've ever bought
Just got mine yesterday, now sold out in Japan again, same as the NeoVista in my size. Ran more than 500k in SB1 and keep it as “rain day” shoe.
“Wear-and-tear-ability” outstanding wordsmithery 👍
I haven’t been able to get the Superblast 2 in my size, such a bummer! I loved the first version.
Just today, I ordered the Brooks Glycerin Max, excited for them to arrive.
I am into my 3 pairs of Superblast 2 and got 3 different models of them so it’s not a big problem today to find them in stores online.
Where?
What country are you in? Haven't seen them in the UK yet.
@@Fozzee.1970 I’m in the US.
That’s it. If I couldn’t get the Superblast I think the closest thing to it is the Novablast
I find them very different.
Me too
@@Fozzee.1970what’s the difference?
I love the Novablast shoes. They will probably always be a part of my rotation.
Would love to hear your thoughts on the Topo Specter 2!
I got the Novablast 3 and love them! Under $100 as well!
Finally Asics came here to colombia, I'll get mine during black Friday, let's hope they're as durable as you say 😁. Great review by the way!
Got mine yesterday and they’re still available in Belgium. Bought them in store so don’t know about the shipping as it is a smaller retailer ☺️.
I know it’s borderline sacrilege, but I prefer the Neo Vista to the Superblast. The increased softness with still enough pop works better for me
Got to go with whatever works for you! 🙌
I love both as someone with 90kg running 5-10k
Hey Ben, I've been enjoying this shoe as well. I am currently using the Paris colorway and I love the ride so much that I even bought a second pair which is the black colorway which soldout here in the U.S. in about 3 days. They still have the other colorways available though..
Got the Superblast 2 but it's just too big, feels like a trip hazard on my feet 😞. I'm searching for an alternative for long runs & my first marathon next year. Love seeing the 350 mile review, one foot old, one foot new, is a great comparison 🙂. Looking forward to trying Brooks Glycerin Max.
Put your Superblast on Secondhand sale, loads of peeps looking for them 👀
@@kophotography895 If in N.America keep a look out on ASICS website roadtested section to get my returned size 11.
@@kophotography895 is there any specific website to sale used running shoes?
Glycerin Max has even more stack and is quite a bit heavier than this.
Was able to snag a V1 in bright red in my US12.5. Considering it for an Oct Marathon!
I managed to get a Paris colorway that I've been wearing since they dropped. And i was surprisingly able to get a pair of the Magenta colorway as well when those dropped! My favorite shoe is the Mizuno Neo Vista's but #2 is definitely the Superblast 2's
A great cheap do it all shoe is the SL 2 I've loved it for everything from a recovery run to a track workout
Love the superblast 2... super run everytime i use it
I managed to get the version 1 from running bear shop and love them! I’ve been looking for a pair for years it feels
I've currently got over 700 miles on my Pro 3's!
I managed to stumble into these getting fitted at fleet feet today. Last pair and the Paris edition. I lucked out! Amazing shoes
I have 2 long run shoes.
Superblast 2 for faster pace. ( 4.30 - 5.30 km/min )
Mizuno neo vista for Slower pace. ( above 5.30km/min )
And it's perfect for me.
I amazingly managed to get one and I can honestly say it’s the best shoe I’ve ever owned. It’s unbelievable!
Back in stock on Asics UK website for various sizes ... (just grabbed a pair size UK10)
I just wait for the Superblast 2 ...at some point next year you will get them. They will still be amazing to buy in 2025. At least I want to try them in a shop but none have them right now lol
Have you made a video about the Asics Gel Fortitude yet? I'd like to hear your opinion on it.
more colorways like the v1 please 😢
What about the Saucony Endorphin Speed 4 as an alternative?
Could have a look at the Mount to Coast R1. It's a great long run shoe
Great review Ben! Congrats!! Can you tell me a VS between the SB2 and the Deviate Nitro Elite 3?
The big problem remains - for a manufacturer who has catered well for larger footed runners. The Superblast isn't made for runners with sizes around 50.5 plus. As if to say people like me don't want to run fast, and sadly neither do the other options you mention.
Please have a word with them Ben, you could be our only hope.
I was in a holiday trip in Osaka Japan and dropped by Asics shop in Namba. I was surprised to see Superblast 2 just sitting there and cost only Y14,000 or 121 quid😱 I had to double check the price 🤯 of course I bought one 😎
I also really love my pair - though for me true to size would have been more fitting!
It's such a lovely shoe. I have to resist doing all my runs in just because I own other shoes and don't want to wear this pair out too quickly!
Both SB1 and SB2 have the same stack (official difference is 0.5 milimeters!)
I also hate the Nimbus 26, it is too sinky soft and the outsole slaps onto the ground like crazy - so loud, no matter what you do!
Great video, thanks a lot. Greetings from Germany!
I picked up some Saucony Endorphin Pro 3 on a killer deal a while back thinking I’d use them for a November marathon, but honestly I’m pretty sure I’m just gonna stick with the Superblast 2 for the race after all :)
For anyone that happened to read this far and has experience in both: What are people’s thoughts about how the Metaspeed Sky (or Edge) Paris feel compared to the Superblast 2?
Hyperion max 2 for me - brilliant shoe
i have two pairs of the superblast 2 and would literally legally marry the shoe
