    Lovely to see Skeeter after so many years! This is just what I needed today. I moved from Victoria, Vancouver Island to Ontario a number of years ago and every year new and different wild plants colonize my garden. This year there's LOTS of Goldenrod!

    I’m here 08/08 six years later and my wild goldenrod has already peaked and the stiff goldenrod is about to peak - crazy to think it used to be more common in September just a couple years ago…

    Michael 2019 is the year of solar minimum, the cycle 24 (solar cycles have an average of 11 years).
    Here where I live the winter was very cold, had more snow than previous years. The first snow was in mid October, I think it snowed 6 times last October. Then the spring seemed to be an extension of the winter.
    This summer it rained just about every other day and the goldenrod bloomed early in August as your did.
    The sun has been most of the time spotless (solar minimum) and continues to be spotless meaning that the coming winter may be cold and snowy as well.
    I wonder if you had a chance to see during last spring the noctilucent clouds just after sunset. Also aurora borealis are more frequent this year.

    I'm not expecting anyone to reply but his goldenrod looks so much better than what I've been seeing while trying to find Solidago canadensis seeds.. Maybe his flowers are a lot bushier because the plants are two years old. Anyone know where he got his seeds from? I'd love to have his exact variety..

      I'm not sure but I noticed that as well! Looks like it gets good watering since it is in his garden. Our goldenrod here in Kansas looks nothing like that!

      One factor may be his planting potatoes in that plot the year before, to prepare the soil. That would have not only loosened up the ground, but it would likely have attracted a bio system compatible to the Goldenrod.
      He also may have trimmed/trained them while small, to encourage vigorous branching.
      Just a thought. 😊

    Can you recommend a good hand scythe (if that’s what you call it) like what you’re using?

    Is there someplace I can sell my organic golden rod to that uses it to make tinctures, etc?

    Can you use moonshine instead of vodka

    • @sweetsue4204
      @sweetsue4204 Год назад +3

      Yes you can. Moonshine would potentially be more powerful as an extraction medium, with its higher alcohol content. It’d be my personal choice, too. Good luck. 👍🏻
