I think Goldenrod was the one that finally made me think ok that's it, God has surrounded us with medicine and food, it's everywhere and we struggle to weed it out and plant other food 😆 Thanks for another great video, when there is a wild plant I want to know about and I see your video I know it will be filled with what I want to know and then some.

Recently I read that Goldenrod is helpful at preventing kidney stones of which I passed one of those little devils this past Spring. So, in addition to eating a low oxalate vegan diet, I am searching for anything that prevents kidney stones other than consuming animal-based calcium sources.
Thank you for your kind words! Yes, goldenrod has been known to help with preventing stones. It isn't just calcium that is needed to help prevent stones because calcium on its own can't do it. It needs magnesium, potassium and sodium as well. All these minerals are commonly found in a variety of wild foods.

As a teenager with very high allergy symptoms, I had the scratch test. My eyes were very red and itchy and so was my nose. I was told that I was allergic to rag weed. I thought that it was the same as the golden rod. Thank you for clarifying.

God gave us the remedies, we just need to find them.
It's sad that the medical professional have not been trained in these ............. But rather the man made ones that have so many side effects with them.
Many people are well-versed in medicinal plants - yet the majority still (sadly) view this as quackery. They have no idea that plants (trees, fungi, etc.) are a treasure chest of goodies!

I have never frozen goldenrod. but you could. I always dry my goldenrod.
Do you wash the leaves, flower before drying them just like you said ragweed is wind driven and gets on it. Should they be soak in salt water like most other vegtables are done to get the bugs off of them?
I always let my foraged good sit outside for a half hour or so - that way any insects have time to leave. I have never washed goldenrod. I rarely wash any of my foraged goods unless they are low to the ground and there is dirt on them. (I have never soaked any veggies in salt water.)
You can also dry the flowers, spray paint em green, and use em as trees for model railroads lol

What information do have about goldenrod and palatability for farm amimals? I cut and field dried and baled a 20 acre field of predominate goldenrod and my sheep didn't care to eat any of the stems, leaves or flowers.

Hello Kim! I've done a couple of wild edible walks in Ottawa! I always love to enjoy the serenity at Mer Bleu! I like it there - but it is a 4 hour drive away. Yes, He has given us so much!
i am in pain daily.. i noticed wildlife and mother nature kept planting things that could help me and started learning more. over 10 kinds of plants and i lost track now are edible and medicinal in my backyard garde .
my garden was planted by mother nature. i didnt plant anything.
I just nibbled on about three little teeny leaves near the flowers and they had a really bad flavor, is that normal for goldenrod? Because if it is it's not very edible as far as flavor goes. I just ingested a small amount to see if my body can take it. If I have any problems I won't be doing that again LOL. I picked a whole bunch of it today all the flour heads that were open and starting to open because I wanted to make some tinctures etc or I may just take the flowers that I picked and scatter them up and down the ditch in front of the property so that they can start growing out there so I don't have to look for them later I can grow them where I need them. I have asthma and arthritis really bad. I also get swollen feet and I have urinary issues in that eye almost need to wear a absorbent pad. So I'm hoping it can help with that. Cuz I really don't want to have to wear a sanitary napkin or a diaper later if I can take goldenrod and maybe alleviate that problem that's one thing less I got to worry about. I am very interested in the oil to make a muscle rub so I'm going to check that video out now.
I make vinegar with goldenrod - I love it!! The taste is not really pleasant and although some enjoy it as tea, I truly feel the the vinegar is best. Be sure to use organic apple cider vinegar!! It didn't make me sick at all I just didn't care for the flavor, I may try it with the apple cider vinegar but I don't really care for that flavor either LOL. So I don't know I'm thinking maybe mulch it up soak it in apple cider vinegar and then use the vinegar to mix in with an oil to make a vinaigrette maybe? We'll see how it works out. I just strained my Mullein tincture and I'm taking that now for my breathing issues I hope to find some more Mullein before the season is over. And I've made a basil oil that's soaking now I got about another month. Basil is a good herbal as well as an excellent flavoring maybe I could mix the goldenrod with the basil oil. I think at this point I just need to experiment a little but there's tons and tons of goldenrod right down the street so if I can find good practical uses here for me then I have an excellent resource I do need to plant Mullein though,. I want to get that to grow wild all over around here

Historically it has been used for wounds, yes. Making the oil is what you need to do first - then the salve. How much you need depends on how much you want to make. Technically on plant will suffice.

I have a dehydrator and would like to dry it for tea .Do you have a video on that so i can learn please . Also it may be worth mentioning to make sure you dont collect any from areas where things may have been sprayed or gotten road run offs , just to make sure its safe and clean . Correct ? I dehydrate goldenrod at room temperature just put them in a box for 5 days

Do not boil... boil the water, let it sit for 5 minutes, then add the herb and let infuse!

I'm surrounded on all sides with this stuff but I am not completely sure if it is golden rod, looks like it except the flowers are slightly larger than in the video. It might just be the time of year.
They can be larger - there are well over 100 species of goldenrod!!!!

Every plant I learn about helps me feel more comforted knowing that nature can feed and heal with the right mindset. Although people around me see a crazy person because that plant might be poisonous! Safe food comes from the grocery store!

Logic tells me that if ragweed blows every ware it would also be on the goldenrod plants also. They are growing together after all. Right?
That's why goldenrod gets falsely accused - people don't see the close by ragweed - only the beautiful , majestic, yellow goldenrod!

Autumn allergies are caused by wind pollinated plants - goldenrod is insect pollinated.
I get the need for the disclaimers of consulting a doctor, yet most have little knowledge of medicinal plants. Combined with the fact they make no money on it, they seldom will recommend anything that cuts into the bottom line.
Case in point; the recent virus and the stiffling of cheap effective therapeutic treatments. I have little faith in corporate medicine, and for good reason. Bottom line; do your own research and choose your doctor very very carefully!!
I tend to gravitate to saying "qualified health professional" - this can be an ND, Herbalist, etc. 5 years ago I was diagnosed with OA in both knees - - I am healed and my doctor knew I could do it because she once practised Ayurveda when she lived in India.

I have to say that to cover my bases. Some people may have a reaction to this or another plant, the plant may contraindicate with medications a person may be taking, etc. Regular doctors tend to have no no knowledge about plants. Naturopaths do.

As far as I know in regards to the species in Canada and the United States! I have never read anything that states otherwise.
I'd go on BONAP and look at their county maps under genus Solidago to see which species are in your county, there may be several, the bright green is "native and present" meaning not uncommon.
There are many Solidago species, in other words there are many different Goldenrod species. Common names suck because people conflate different species that have different effects, it's important to learn the binomial names.
Solidago is the genus that we refer to as Goldenrod

Goldenrod is edible, while golden boy not necessarily
Goldenrod is not related to ragweed. If you have allergies to ragweed, you won't also have allergies to goldenrod.
Correct - separate plant families.
If I had my way I’d Roundup every one of ‘em. They’ve had my sinuses torn up for the last 3 weeks.
They're insect pollinated, as she says. It looks similar to ragweed but totally different family of flowers.
