I have made Birch root tea and Sassafras root tea all my life, I am very careful in using only the off shoot roots and only 1 -2 per plant so it never dies. It makes a much stronger darker tea, in which I use honey or brown sugar to sweeten it a bit. I have never tried the twigs! Has to be a lot easier to gather than the roots! Here is a fun fact for you, the first tooth brushes were made from frayed birch root, because it freshened your breath and the anti bacterial qualities in it cleaned the gums and teeth, the same goes for Sassafras! Both aid in digestion and have the same qualities. Love your videos! Bless you for sharing!
'Nature can provide for everyone's needs but not everyone's greed' I just love it ❤️️ And also, these vids are so inspiring, I immediately regain my 'spark' and want to roam the land barefoot 😂 Who knows, I might as well do it when the spring hits .
The willow tree is also known as aspirin on a stick. It too has salicylates. Peel the bark from the willow tree hanging branches and make a tea. You can also let the peeled branches dry for a few weeks and grind into a powder.
My Fav video yet, calming and interesting. I love how you present the simplicity of natures healing properties along with all the myth and folklore. Thank you!

@@homeiswhereourheartis nice 1 Do you do foraging courses for the day? If not, would you consider it? I have been on two foraging courses in the past three weeks and I am loving it. Thanks for another great video. I know in years gone by, birch twigs were used as tooth brushes. Presumably the ancients knew about the healing properties. I am thinking of making some up to use as a daily mouthwash. Any idea how long it lasts? Wondering if it needs to be refrigerated for longer shelf life or could maybe be frozen into ice cube trays. Might taste nicer with a bit of birch syrup! Love the quote about nature providing for our need not our greed. Keep up the good work 😁
You don't have to use as many making it a lighter tea Or dont steep as long Or use a twig as a stir stick with other herbal teas or your syrups;) Much love xoxox
You have me converted. Will try it as soon as possible. I would add a bit of honey. I am subscribing, just checked your videos very interesting. Thank you.
@@homeiswhereourheartis Collected twigs whilst out foraging brought them back home, I had seen a recipe in a book I have. Cut them into 5cm lengths and roasted them, ground them up in my coffee grinder and made a brew. Found it to be bitter but ok, so I got rid of the bitterness with a spoonful of raw honey. I make a couple of jars up every year when I tap the birch trees
A tea a day. But remember it has the same effects as aspirin research into birch bark effects if you have any health issues or are taking any medication
Love your videos thank you. Your tea was too strong for my taste. I just put some of what you made into a cup & top up with boiling water. The rest will keep fresh in fridge .

Another gem of a video❤! Here at our country house in 🇸🇪, there's Birch everywhere. Think I will make myself a cup of tea 🍵. Thank you.
This is great info.
We use birch for carving utensils, the bark for fire starting. It is great to learn of yet another use.
It's got so many uses! 🙂🌲
Wow super enjoyed watching this to be honest you are the best narrator on you tube easy to understand and very inspiring

You seem like a really cool guy, nice vid. I shall try a birch twig tea with a drop of honey on my next camp, and maybe tell the old tale 🤣
I'd recommend a gorse flower tea if your looking for a more enjoyable drink 😁
I think most tea needs a bit of sweetener in order to taste good.I enjoyed the video because of your inowledge and your joyful personality. Thank you!
How ya getting all those twigs out of that thermos?

I’d love to try that tea.
Does a person steep their Birch tea or boil the Birch Bark water for a bit of time?

Iv chewed it before for a mouth wash but I'd have to look into how to make it into a longer lasting one there's potential there maybe! 😁

How long will this keep? Can I make some and drink on it for the whole week...
When I tried it I roasted the twigs and ground them down then made my tea
How did you find the taste? Iv not tried roasting them before ✌️

I have the most beautiful River Birch in my front yard that loses branches all the time. Is it necessary to use Silver Birch?
You can tap all birch tree's I believe 🙂
How often can you drink this ? Is consuming too much dangerous?
A tea a day. But remember it has the same effects as aspirin research into birch bark effects if you have any health issues or are taking any medication
I wonder if the birch polypore gets some of its medicinal properties from the tree itself.
Now that's a interesting thought I'm going have a read into that 🙂
Could you mix with honey or something? Thanks
That's everyone else's comments, so ignore me, hadn't read those before commenting!
No worries 😁
Can it be mixed with something to improve its flavor?
Probably! But I'd recommend drying the leaves for tea instead 😁
@@homeiswhereourheartis I just tried some, and it didn't taste bad at all. Maybe I didn't make it strong enough.
Our HEAVENLY Father is good. HE is all of mankind's provider and supplier. HIS foods are medicines, as Scripture says.
The Native Americans call Him the Old Man. We call Him God. Same person. Add a spoon or two of honey to your tea.
Anyone here the from the long dark

Birch Twig Tea is a very strong tea not the most pleasant check out our other teas they are much more enjoyable herbal teas 😁
Just made some pom-melow honey.
Any good?
@@homeiswhereourheartis yeah it is really good. It tastes like marmalade jelly.
