I was told the "yellow things" all around my new property are bad and give people allergies. You have no idea how excited I was to see this video and realize that those yellow things are actually an abundance of golden rod in my own back yard. Thank you!!
Sounds like you have an opportunity of teaching others the truth about these wonderful “weeds”. ❤ My mother in law swears she’s allergic to goldenrod. I’m thinking it may very well be the ragweed instead.
I have a field covered in Goldenrod. I fill a half gallon mason jar with fresh goldenrod and cover it up to the top of the jar with 80 proof vodka put a lid on it and set it in the pantry. Awesome tincture in 6 weeks.
What do you use the tincture for? I gathered 5 bundles and hung to dry. I'll crush the leaves for tea, but don't know what the tincture is used for. Many thanks for this video.
Have you ever thought about shipping the herbs. I’m in tn lol we don’t have a lot of stuff like that where I live lol on herb I’ve seen that I kno of is in the or online
You brought up a great memory when you mentioned you used goldenrod as part of a table arrangement. Before dinner, my grandma used to take us out into the wilderness and pick plants that we wanted on our dinner table. We would take them to the garage and spray paint them gold and silver and let them dry. Then she would arrange it all to be on display for all the dinner guests. Us grandchildren were so proud at dinner 🥰
Oh wow I am from KY, and I didn’t know that, just found a big field with thousands of this lovely plant growing, gonna be making a lot of tea and tincture😊
New here... just to mention, you have a very soothing voice to listen to! You are a wealth of information that is presented so well. I've thoroughly enjoyed both your videos and podcast. Just starting my herbalism journey. Thank you.
This is the third video about goldenrod that I tried to watch, but couldn't. Constructive criticism, no disrespect; lose the background noise. The subject & your narration of it is great! The addition of distracting, monotonous & annoying music detracts from the great work you are doing❤❤❤
I took a young family man to a town close by to get help paying for his electric bill. He has three little girls and a son just over 1yo. On the way back I looked closer at a patch of yellow flowers; up close I realized they were goldenrod. This patch was atleast 30' by 60'. I cut enough to fill two jars with tops. I stripped the leaves from the short stems and saved a few tops; I have them in a mess nylon bag drying in my house. I gave the bugs enough time to escape before I poured the juice to the tops and leaves. That was a rewarding trip. I also collected the fluffy seed pods from the plants that were mature next to the pond in the same area. I will plant them some place else. I think I saw Yarrow earlier close to this place. I will check around in the Spring. MK
I’m SO EXCITED TO MAKE THIS TINCTURE. I was able to harvest a good bit of GOLDEN ROD on the homestead today. There were SO MANY BEES doing work on them that I decided to leave half for them and BECAUSE I LOVE SEEING THEM BLOOMING EVERYWHERE. They always show up right after the SPIDER LILLIES down here in 9A and they are always a sure sign for me that FALL IS NEAR. ☺️ THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS GREAT INFO FOR US NEWBIES THAT ARE SO INTERESTED IN MAKING THIS LIFE STYLE CHANGE. I have been working really hard to clean the man made chemicals out of my body for the last 3 years and IT HAS CHANGED EVERYTHING FOR ME SO PLEASE KEEP SHINING LIGHTS and THANKS AGAIN 💡💡💡 I PRAY MANY BLESSINGS OVER YOUR HOMESTEAD 🙏🙏🙏💚🦋
I made my golden rod tincture. Place it on the self in a dark area. I allowed it to sit longer than 6 weeks. The color is amazing and the liquid is so beneficial. Thanks for the info
I love it. A list of things I've done with golden rod. Tea out of the flowers, tincture with the leaves, oxymel, makes a good drink, infused honey, I've made a vinager, oils, and saves. This herb is beautiful. Were I'm at it's just now starting to bloom it's also very invasive were I'm at. And here in a few weeks I plan on foraging at least enough to get my family though the winter and next summer.
Cool video, i have been foraging for years, I have never been aware of goldenrod. I recently found a field full of this lovely plant, hundreds of them. So I picked a big bunch and am making tea with the dried and tincture with the fresh. I know my body will thank me.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for doing this video. It's two years later but this is my first year to harvest Goldenrod and I needed an all inclusive video on how to harvest, prepare and use it.

Thank you for your knowledge! Just found goldenrod today in my yard. I loaded one of the plant identification apps. Loved this video, Amy. I’ve learned so much from you, and appreciate your sharing your herbal wisdom. I have loved and grown herbs for decades, but you have taught me so much I didn’t know!❤️
I am just starting with making tinctures and learning to identify herbs on our land. I am so happy to find a small amount of Goldenrod in patches in our pastures. You talk about being able to use dried....why is there a little debate on this matter if you don't mind me asking. Thank you for putting out these videos. Hugs.
Some herbs (like lemon balm) are much more potent when tinctured fresh, just do a bit of research on the particular herb your going to extract from and see if the drying process lessens it's potency. You can also experiment with fresh vs dried and see what method works best for you. If all you have access to is dried herb that's fine, just use what you have 😊

Hello Amy, I hope you are well. I have a question. Today I opened my GoldenRod tincture from last fall. Last September I filled it absolutely to the rim, using fresh plant material and 100% grain alcohol diluted with distilled water for a 1:1 ratio, to match a 100 proof alcohol, like a vodka. Nowhere is there any sign of mold, however I detect a slight vinegar, or fermented odor. I can't tell if it's just the Goldenrod, or if it fermented ever-so-slightly? What are your thougts, please? Maybe this is normal? Idk I'm so new at this. Thank you for the videos. You explain everything clearly and at a pace I can follow. Your Grandparent's farm looks dreamy. Kind regards, Lynn

I uh g some in my kitchen last year and you can smell that golden rod its strong smelling at times oh we have Canadian then all over our property I need to pick some so you can make a salve I'm sure
Vinegar will draw out vitamins & minerals. The alcohol will draw out the medicinal part of the plant. In the end, you would get two different products.
Thank you so much, Amy! I have a field of goldenrod flowering now and more closer to the house that is in bud. You'd be welcome to come and gather all you want! I'm waiting for the ones close to the house to bloom before I collect mine because I don't want to battle chigger bites I'd surely get walking across that field of tall grass. My Vodka is waiting and so are the Boston Round amber bottles. Again, thanks for the valuable information.
I made a goldenrod tincture in the same manner I did my mullein and lemongrass and wild lettuce. The goldenrod smells not very good and really strong. Is that normal. My husband couldn't use it. I also made a salve out of it and it is wonderful. Does goldenrod tincture normally smell really strong?

Vinegar will draw out vitamins & minerals. The alcohol will draw out the medicinal part of the plant.
In the end, you would get two different products.
What are its energetics ? From listening to the information you gave it sounds like it could be warming and drying??
I’ve taken it, and it’s definitely drying, great for my seasonal allergies.
Can you wash it before drying? Mine has alot of bugs. Also can you dehydrate it?
I’m wondering how to clean it also
Ty
I made a goldenrod tincture in the same manner I did my mullein and lemongrass and wild lettuce. The goldenrod smells not very good and really strong. Is that normal. My husband couldn't use it. I also made a salve out of it and it is wonderful. Does goldenrod tincture normally smell really strong?
It does have a very strong pine like smell.
@@TheFewellHomestead ok thank you, maybe it's normal then. My husband said it tasted awful and it smells strong whereas the mullein tincture smells and taste good according to my husband.
Can I make my tincture using fresh goldenrod or should I dry it out first? Also on average how long does it take to dry? Thank you!!
