    Brainworx has updated their BX_XL v2 multiband mastering limiter to version 3. Is this just a simple copy paste job or a real upgrade?

    Interesting. I feel that $19.99 is a lot for mainly a cosmetic change. It looks nicer, but harder too read. The only reason I could upgrade is the fear of having a V2 that is not usable anymore in a few years.

      Thruth, if you get free updates and fixes for years, a ''new'' plugin version like this V3 is the other way for a company to make money.

    It seems that Plugin Alliance/Brainworx has missed the mark again. (see BX_Enhancer). I already own XL V2 mostly likely will not upgrade to V3.
    Thanks for being honest and thorough in your reviews. Doing a null test was brilliant in this context and your videos are ALWAYS very helpful!

      @whitenoisestudio  Месяц назад +1

      Yeah the BX_enhancer was not that great either. I think the forst time for me were I really started to question Brainworx policy was with the Amek 250 vs 200.
      A null test is a simple but very effective tool to show if there any difference, it is 100% objective. Cant argue with those outcomes ;-)

    Love the PA plugins, and so much of it is essential: the old SPL, the Maag, the new Vac Attack and even the BX Digital V3, which still holds up and is something of a classic. This new style of GUI could do with a rethink however. BX Digital, for example, still looks good and not too dark. I think they started with the True Peak and kept going. I also wasn’t totally convinced about True Peak. Perhaps they’ve updated the algorithm and the new BX range sounds amazing! Another great video.

    • @whitenoisestudio
      @whitenoisestudio  Месяц назад +2

      Yeah, I agree with older and even newer PA plugins - the Vertigo VSM-3, Adptr Skulpt, Beold stuff and the ampeg VST are plugins I always use. Dont know what BX is doing, seems so uninspired for a while now.

    I love how scientific you are. Thank you so much for these videos. I'm not able to understand people who talk in marketing lingo, hype, and feelings. I've been told I'm on "the spectrum." Whatever it is, I'm very grateful for this kind of video. It has 10x more information that's useful compared to others. I kinda hate that “curved knobs” look (Baby Audio-ish…does NOTHING for me). However I did buy (Team $19 upgrade 🥳) & I didn’t have the True Peak Limiter. Haven’t demoed yet.
    At least bx acknowledges it’s a $19 upgrade (& when V2 came out, PA customers were swimming in $10 plug-ins from sales & monthly no-minimum-spend vouchers…so who even paid much for V2? 🤷‍♂️

    Frankly, I am tired of all these "update plugins". I did buy the V3 and also already had V2, only because I thought the upgrade price was good. Otherwise, I wouldn't have done it. Izotope also comes to mind with their incessant desire to bring in more do-re-mi into their deposit coffers, now with RX 11. Plus I'm retired and while working, used my work income to subsidize the purchase of as many plugins as I thought I needed, and then wound up already with MORE than I not only need, but USE. How many EQ and Compressors does one need in the first place?

  • @alfredgrupstra
    @alfredgrupstra Месяц назад

    You totally confirm my suspicion and even for 19 euro I will not update, I can't even call it upgrade. Too bad, this copying is going on since Brainworx and PA became part of Native Instruments together with Izotope. I want Dirk Ulrich back on the weel. It seems with his leaving the creativity is out of Brainworx!

    Very interesting and very well done video. That is very disappointing by Brainworx. I was one who participated in their survey of what types of things we consumers wanted from the V3. It’s very disheartening to see that nothing any of us asked for was implemented at all.

      I don’t recall everyone else’s requests offhand, but mine was having different saturation style choices on mid and side channels. I thought that would have been a clever way to affect tone and saturation characteristics and use the compressors a little less.

  • @kendydrechsler4956

    Being really honest, I don't like those newer bx plugins for some reason. Their analog emulations are really nice but that newer stuff with that (imo) weird GUI didn't catch me yet. I think this thing in particular won't replace a FF Pro MB. Adptr Audio stuff and even the Neold stuff in contrast delivers some really unique and useful plugins (especially Sculpt for me). There are much simpler and still much more useful plugins out there than this.

    • @whitenoisestudio

    • @kendydrechsler4956

      @@whitenoisestudio yeah I got the same feeling. But I also feel like they are going more of that NI route "put this thing on your track and that's the only plugin you need". I mean, if you try to build a chain with those plugins, what is the purpose of having an XL Saturator knob on each of those plugins. I prefer multiple tools each doing one task at a time very very well instead of one tool trying to do all tasks at the same time but mediocre.

  • @elimilliman8722
    @elimilliman8722 Месяц назад +5

    This lack of innovation is especially disappointing on the heels of the BX Glue, which I think is BX’s best plugin in a long time. Very versatile and useful for any buss compression task.

    • @whitenoisestudio
      @whitenoisestudio  Месяц назад +1

      I started checking the Glue a bit but didn't continue. Have to check how it compares to for instance the brainworx SSL stuff and the Townhouse compressor. I have become a bit skeptical with every BX release.

    • @elimilliman8722
      @elimilliman8722 Месяц назад

      I wasn’t skeptical until this video, but I will say that I have loved what BX Glue has done for my mix buss and I enjoy the GUI and the control it affords verses a GUI based on hardware. The only problem I have with BX Glue is that, while not the same, it’s a real toss up for me between Glue and the Cenozoix Comp, which is also part of the bundle. What I’m trying to say is that, with a bundle full of amazing plugins, some releases are really beginning to feel redundant. I was really hoping for these new releases from BX to push the envelope the way companies such as Unfiltered Audio continue to do.

    Why is this company not updating and upgrading theor plugins???. Such an old catalog. They don't add scalability for the user interface size everywhere nor ambient mode AKA delta. There's also no consistency, some of the new plugins have Delta some of them don't. The BX line should be consistent with those user interfaces but it seems they're making it up as we go. And good luck adding a feature later on.... Hornets plugin Saverio adds a feature 3 days after release if people complain. Plug in Alliance never never ever ever add a feature that they forgot to implement upon release. For example Delta or Auto gain...if you forgot to implement it and users keep asking you to do it. Why don't you do it? This is a hit and run strategy. Once they got your money they run with it....

    • @whitenoisestudio
      @whitenoisestudio  Месяц назад +1

      I personally dont think a plugin should get extra features after release by default. You really might hope that a plugin on release is as ready and good as it can get. Adding features can also break backwards compatibility if you have used a previous version of that same plugin.
      If those big oversights and if they are added is of course a good thing, I have seen KIIVE been doing that.
      But I also know some plugins have been released not in a ready state and that the first few days / weeks, you as buyer of that plugin are a sort of beta tester.
      I dont like to do hornet plugins in a video, they reach out from time to time, but I have had broken plugins a few times. They often seem not release ready.
