    New update has a drive mode for all compressor types based on circuit modelling, so now it is much closer to being a model of the different compressor styles. You can also mix and match like LA-2A curves and Diode drive section!

    Your Cenozoix has an attack time of exactly an eight note, which is quite surgical.

  • @ramspencer5492
    @ramspencer5492 6 месяцев назад +2

    I think this comp could technically replace everything.... But... If you already know what you want with other tools, how much effort/learning curve would it take to reverse engineer that for every type of compression you're looking for? All the nuances.... Harmonic content... Etc. probably really good just to use for more surgical applications.

    The fact that TBT doesn't shy away from copying Fabfilter's UIs is cool and uncool at the same time. Cool, because the Fabfilter UIs are really good and well thought out, and you immediately feel at home on the Cenozoix. And uncool because it's simply copied. But TBT have added a lot of features, that's for sure. I'm going to give it a try. I also bought the Kirchhoff back then, but I still use the ProQ3 because it's simply faster and more practical for my everyday use. When it comes to compressors, I never really liked the C2. Cenozoix would have to compete against my trusty DMG TrackComp. Let's see! 😀

      Fabfilter just makes GUIs that make sense and are intuitive. Its designed how it only makes sense. What should TBT do? Their approach is precision and GUI that makes sense, how are they supposed to reinvent the wheel?

    • @PlottingTheDownfall
      @PlottingTheDownfall 6 месяцев назад +1

      Keep in mind, the difference between DMG TrackComp2 and this, is that DMG models the actual hardware noise/saturation where this compressor does not. i.e. No compression, no saturation in the TBT comp, whereas Trackcomp has all kinds of saturation. All compressors while compressing generate odd harmonics--how much depends on the attack and release speeds and envelopes. The only way to get saturation into TBT is to use the even/odd knob to add in even harmonics to soften the odd harmonics.

    Interesting video, new to the channel but I'm enjoying the stuff you're putting out. With regards to this compressor then I have brand loyalty to Fabfilter and rate their stuff very highly, but if I didn't already own the Pro C2 and was looking to upgrade from my stock DAW compressor I'd probably get this. It seems to have all the features (and more) of Pro C2, sounds good but, most importantly, is cheaper. At least as a standalone if you ignore the FF bundles.
    With my FF (brand loyalty) hat on I'm a bit miffed that they've simply copied the C2 GUI but maybe this will spur FF into action to release an upgraded "Pro C3". Personally speaking I'm not that interested in the analog emulations, because I've got those already in dedicated plugins, but it would be good if FF sorted out the "styles" section of the Pro C2 because I defy anybody to find some definitive explanation of what all the styles actually do to the compression.

    Idk, their emulations aren’t ground breaking, the aa is still pretty cpu heavy so I’m not using it on every track like the Swiss Army knife it wants to be, it’s a step in the right direction of ui. It provides a good competition to fan filter as always but I haven’t bought any ff yet so I feel like I’m not getting this either

    I hate the idea of having a ton of different algorithms in one plugin like this. I do NOT want an "all in one" compressor. I don't have time to try out 24 different algorithms and try to figure out how they differ.
    I want a collection of good compressors that have a very specific goal and/or character.
    I don't know why I'm like this. But the idea of having a bunch of compressor "flavors" in one compressor plugin just feels wrong to me.

    • @PlottingTheDownfall
      @PlottingTheDownfall 6 месяцев назад +1

      depends on what your goal is and what you do...as a mixer, with quick turns on output, I could see this replacing my individual compressors because I can quickly set my main parameters, the audition the varies comps' knees, and envelopes and see how it changes the sound in context of a mix, rather than changing inserts across a dozen different types.
      With that said, I do get what you mean tho and my templates are pretty much built so that I know what comps are on what instruments and I don't have to think about it. Just set and forget and focus on making the mix impactful emotionally.

    • @FoliaSound
      @FoliaSound  6 месяцев назад +2

      I think your style of work is absolutely fine and you don't havbe to change it at all. Still, some people who look e.g. for maximum speed and efficiency will benefit from Cenozoix a lot. Cheers!

      There is mid/side, it's under the side-channel panel (where is says "Mode" you can see it defaults to LR), you can choose to compress both mid/side, compress just the mids, compress just the sides, or you can compress the mids reacting to the side signal or the sides reacting to the mid signal.

    Why does one plugin have to be the killer of another? Seems that did not really work out for the Kirchhoff either. Most people still use FF ProQ3, it's faster and easier to use and does everything I need it to do. The compressor is no different. It's always strange if you want to be everything for everyone.

    • @FoliaSound
      @FoliaSound  6 месяцев назад +1

      How do you know, that most people are using FF Pro-Q3? Have you got any data on official sales? Kirchhoff is actually way faster and more user friendy in a couple of areas and all my studio team switched to Kirchhoff easily. No Pro-Q3 in any of our sessions :) I didn't say it's bad at all, but you can't go wrong with Kirchhoff!
