I've owned one since 2016 and it's been on my drum buss for most (if not all) of my mixes since then. Terrific sound and value for money.
Yes, the "bang for the buck" factor is real with this one!
I lost a lot of money in a scam last year but this is one of the first hardware compressors I would buy when I get my head back out of water.
I'm sorry to hear that. Scams hurt. When you're back oin action, this box does deliver nice, useable sonics for a fair price. Others do as well, but I've been pleased with the SFE so far.
@@davidpetersmusic The external sidechains and mix knob have become so essential, it's truly an ideal stereo compressor for my needs. Thank you for this excellent demo!

Great video! Would love a studio tour. And a separete video for the console! Thanks!
Updated studio tour coming soon! The one on the channel now is from 2018 and much has changed.
Sounds great.
Glad you dig it!
Great Video! I loved how you did the demo. Simple and to the point. I would not change a thing. Instant Sub!!
I appreciate it!
I'd Like to see the Overstayer MAS as well!
That could be arranged! I use it on every mix.
and the modular channel as well! 🙏
@@mgarciaurreta That would be a deep demo!
@@davidpetersmusic the modular channel please;) I ordered one
but would like a tutorial, it is not easy to find thanks
damn that sounds incredible!
I'd say thanks, but I think the box gets the credit. 😎
this thing is beastly!
Quite beastly.
A proper demo of the POM PYE would be much appreciated!
The overstayer sounds awesome.
Coming soon!
Just watched your video on the POM Pye compressor, totally different feel compared to the Overstayer. Thanks for the demo!
Yes, very different indeed! ...not only in action, but in which part of the frequency spectrum they bring out.
@@davidpetersmusic You mention that, and I did notice the harmonics button here being a "brighten your sound" button. The hats / cymbals / metallic sounding percussion jumped out and sparkled with it engaged. Do other compressors focus on different bands? Like a "bass is now front and center" compressor?
sounds cool! thnx
Thanks! A demo of this unit was overdue.
gear video demos are poor man"s joy.!! Pompye also can be enjoyable when we hear in action.
I'll do a Pompye test soon! There is one from POM online already somewhere too.
1:44 It looks like the Blend button is about to come off, the button is shaking when you turn it. What is that about? At least the other buttons seemed to be attached to the device.
SFE sounds nice overall, i like those harmonics, they really bring out the 3K-4K and up.
I noticed that when watching back as well. The set screw needs to be tightened up. The post itself is solid.
❤
Brother, you say 1176 and 1178 like I have the first clue what that means. I'm just a rookie, looking to learn about compressors, and how folks are using them.
I certainly do appreciate the examples you gave, and the demonstration! Sounds like one could really mangle AND corral some sounds with this unit.
Cheers, and merci
Thanks for checking out the video! The 1176 is probably the most famous and well-known audio compressor ever made. If you don't know it now, you will soon. 🙂 Welcome to the world of music production!
Nice Studer console! Do you like it? How do you use it?
It's a fantastic console for the money. Clean and warm, simple, no external power supplies, low maintenance, etc. I use it on larger tracking days, especially on drums, and occasionally to sum during mixing, which adds something.
Nice video and overstayer collection. I „only“ own the overstayer modular channel. Do you feel the SFE adds something you do not get with the modular channel?
It's a FET compressor instead of a VCA, so the vibe is a bit different. It's also very simple, which can be nice sometimes. The use the modular channel when tracking or trying to make something interesting. I like the SFE for daily standard stuff.
@@davidpetersmusic thank you! I thought both were based on the same topology! Have fun with the unit!
Wow! Friend has one and swears by it. I didn’t believe him.
It has a humble look and low marketing budget, but's it's a solid piece!
Hey! Great video! Could you consider doing a video on using external side chains with analog compressors, and different techniques/approaches etc. I think it would be a cool video, and one Id love to see.
Thanks for that idea, it's a good one!
How is it on guitars?
It’s been living on drums so I haven’t tried it there much yet! Something else is handling guitars at the moment. It’s still pretty new to me.
