  • WARNING Jackson Guitars Quality Control 2020
    Here's what I unfortunately have to go over and discuss with the latest purchase of this Jackson Pro Series KV7Q Corey Beaulieu Signature 7-String. I have and always will keep it REAL, and that's exactly what you get in this video. Those of you who play guitar need to know about these things and be aware of the QC issues that are clearly still taking place over at Jackson. It is really disappointing considering how much I was in love with their guitars growing up, but after giving them several chances with the instruments I had purchased since production has changed post 2000 ish it's time to talk more about this. This guitar was the perfect candidate for discussion. It's a total bummer, but this stuff needs to be talked about in efforts to hopefully improve their QC, and also bring it to enough of your guys' attention before you go dropping a good chunk of your hard earned money on a guitar. This stuff is happening, and quite frequently I might add. Maybe you've been lucky and haven't had any issues with the guitars that you've purchased in the last 20 years from Jackson, but this is my 4th and every one of them have flaws that have never been overlooked and shipped from the factory. That's including a USA made guitar...NOT ACCEPTABLE!!! I hope you guys get something good out of this video, it really sucks that I have to talk about these things from a company that I will always have a soft spot for, but things are definitely not what they once were and I keep everything fully 100 on my channel so here's another example of that. Thank you all for watching, appreciate you guys so much!

    It’s nice that you’re open to sharing all this stuff you’re not happy with on a fairly valuable instrument. It’s not the first time I see a sharp fret edge problem on a Jackson, but usually I would expect that on a lower end guitar. It’s a legitimate problem that really turns me off of a guitar entirely, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. What the hell are they thinking?

    Kevin, you are so right about the quality control issues. I just recently had to return 3 Jackson Pro series King V guitars due to tip damages, and the last one had a broken toggle switch, new out of the box! And these guitars all had 4 inspection signatures before being boxed. I also made a video just so people can know. After guitar 3, I told them to cancel my order, I had enough

      @stringedassassin 3 года назад +7

      B stock or the fool that previously had it. I don't see all of these things coming from the factory and someone still accepting it on arrival. The roughed up neck and headstock seems like damage and the nut could've been stripped and replaced with the wrong mm. How many young dudes can't handle a Floyd? Like almost all of em.

    • @njord4634
      @njord4634 3 года назад +1

      @@stringedassassin That's what I think. The paint issues and rough pickup cavities instead are from factory, a lot of Jackson guitars have such issues.
      Usually I'm good with minor cosmetic issues, but the paint job in this particular guitar is so so so bad!

  • @cellphone96

    I remember watching a video of a guy going over his Custom Shop Jackson and that also had some awful QC issues. It's sad that Jackson isn't paying enough attention to their products. They're fun guitars, but when you're spending top dollar on a guitar, you want it to be as close to perfect as possible.

  • @redmuun519

    Jackson has always been the brand I’ve wanted to like, but just can’t. All of their guitars feel so cheap to me, especially those X Series guitars. I’m all for the shapes and designs, but it’s sad to see a brand like Jackson losing what they used to be known for. Anyone whose ever played an 80’s or early 90’s Jackson knows that their guitars now are just different.

      The old MIJ jacksons were great. The new ones are garbage. I bought a shecter c1 platnium for $600. It's Korean, and comes with a tusq nut and grovers. Great guitar. Jackson x series is like $800+ with PLASTIC NUT, crappy tuners and Indonesian??? Really?? More money for an inferior guitar

    • @dannyllerenatv8635
      @dannyllerenatv8635 3 года назад +2

      It sucks to see it too because charvel and fender's(who also owns jackson, charvel, EVH and Gretsch) have made MASSIVE strides in build quality over the last 10 years. Almost anything you grab with a charvel or Fender logo on it is pro quality nowadays, but the Jacksons are so inconsistent.

    • @christopherbass4521
      @christopherbass4521 3 года назад +5

      The X series doesn't make any sense. It's the same stuff as the JS series. Floyd Rose Specials, cheap pickups, the same hardware otherwise. If the JS stuff played like a 100 dollar guitar once set up and the X series played like a good guitar, this would make sense. If I'm going to pay 600-700 bucks, I might as well get a Pro series for a little bit more which will come with duncans and a 1000 series floyd.

    This hits home. Bought a Jackson King V Pro KVT, high end model. Spent a grip, when I got it, the binding was faded and there was slight rust marks in the paint under the bridge poles...which a guy at a local shop who I trust, said they painted the clear coat over the rust spot...WTF? I WAS PISSED. Thankfully Jackson "Declared" it a manufacture flaw and replaced it. But you know as well as I do, I lost confidence in them. Somwthing so egregious looked past. The flip side, and saving grace, the guitar sounds huge. But I just wanted to share my story. Metal love bro.

    • @Weirdwest805
      @Weirdwest805 3 года назад +8

      @Tony Glock Its not easy either. You need tools and technique to do a proper job. its very easy to make a mistake when you dont have experience. And paying for a tech shouldnt be an added fee because people in the factory dont know how to build a guitar.

    • @Weirdwest805
      @Weirdwest805 3 года назад +9

      @Tony Glock Glad things worked out for you, but that is really besides the point. You shouldn't have to play guitar tech on a brand new $1k guitar. Techs should be for old busted up guitars.

      @Tony Glock do you understand you're comparing apples to oranges when you have to do work on a very low end guitar from a low end brand compared to the intermediate higher price range guitars? I bought a PRO SERIES RHOADS RR3 from Sweetwater, the first time I ever bought something sight unseen. It came in a cardboard box, not a case, and I was absolutely amazed at how well it played out of the box. I don't know if I was just lucky, but after slightly adjusting the action to my preference and tweaking the pickup heights, it's one of the most perfect guitars I've ever owned. It also have a Dean ML that had a slight issue with the 3rd fret. It wasn't seated in its groove quite properly and when I played it, the string would sometimes slip off the fretboard and get stuck on the end of the fret. I fixed it by taking a small ballpeen hammer, with some masking tape on the peen, and gave it some taps until the fret was fully into the groove. No more problems. I've been playing for over 40 years and knowing how to do some maintenance will save you a lot of money.

    Jackson was always that guitar just out of reach due to price when I started playing in the late 80's. I usually saw them used in the Bay Area thrash scene in bands that came from money along with ADA preamps, Boogie rack mount 50/50 power amps and full stacks. The really set up bands also had Quadraverbs or A.R.T. processors. The rest of us used whatever we could get out hands on. I blew my savings account ($700) on the pink HM Strat in '89 in my profile pic which I still play on my channel.

    I have a Jackson Monarkh JS22q in the Trans Purple Burst. It was my first ever guitar after my friends convinced me to buy a guitar. I wasn't disappointed in the quality after it's price range but it had:
    -Uneven paint distribution on the headstock
    -I had to tune it after 2 days of 1 hour and 30 mins of playing due to cheap tuners
    -Skid mark on the back of the body but it was easy to rub off
    -The finish is very delicate and scratches were easily obtainable
    -The edges of the body will dull easily after 3 months of use
    Otherwise, comparing it to my other friend's guitars, it performed on par, mind you these guitars are strats and les pauls in the 700+ dollar range, and my friends agreed. Overall, QC issues are common with Jackson but overall still a solid buy.

    I’d imagine what you have is b-stock or “blemished”, which may be why you got it at the price you did.
    This is just my opinion of course having bought so many over the years.
    Having said that I just recently bought a KVXMG as a project guitar in satin black.
    When I received it I found that right at about the midpoint of the guitar that the paint was actually a completely different shade of satin black.
    Other than that the guitar was very nice but I still sold it and lost money, which was fine as I expected that to be the case.
    What I see here with yours is fairly egregious.
    I have tried to like Jackson over the years but I jumped to ESP/E-II/LTD many years ago and I’ve been super happy.
    ESP doesn’t do b-stock (E-II and LTD do), but you pay heavily for the Japanese quality.
    However, both E-II and LTD IMO are great guitars.
    Even their b-stock guitars don’t have the issues I’ve seen here.
    Unfortunately in a world of buying off the internet you never really know what you’re getting until it reaches your doorstep.
    I always ask a ton of questions and ask sellers for additional photos.
    Best to you and good overview here!

I’ve been contemplating to sell it off or get the work done for a long time. It’s a sloppy finish, like the transfer from the neck to the paint. The horribly designed Jackson locking tuners are awful to use. ...... but it’s got a unique thin neck if I want to play standing up and the design looks awesome, love the headstock and thinner body but the neck has high frets all over the place. I think I’m going to just play it fret rattles, choking out and all until I decide if I love the neck or not. If I do, I’ll just do the work.

    Same boat as you. Was a huge Jackson fanboy in the 90’s. Got my first USA in 1992 and more often than not there were issues with them up to and through my last in 2008. I always get a kick out of Fender taking the blame for their QC issues even though they’ve been persistent across the line long before they came into the picture. The fretwork imperfections on import models in the $1000 range is pretty common. I often wonder how much of it is simply due to the woods they’re using not given ample time to dry. The fretwork could be done perfectly and if the fret board shrinks you’re going to have sharp ends all over the neck. Luckily those are fairly easy to fix. The finish flaws are inexcusable. I don’t get the impression most of these brands really take into account the experience of saving up for a guitar you really want, having it arrive, and having such a profoundly negative experience right out of the box. It’s terrible for a brand. I’ve heard PRS randomly goes through and opens boxes that are set to ship to help ensure the customer experience will be positive. They do this from the bottom of the line to the top. Obviously not the brand if you like pointy guitars, but the commitment to quality can’t be denied.

      The good thing about this is most nuts now are top mount- so you just fill, reposition, and redrill. You shouldn't have to do it, of course, but it's a simple fix. I've gotten guitars where the lock nut radius didn't match the board- one too flat (16" on a 12" board), the other too radiused (10" on a 16" board). I actually have one of these Winterstorm V's. Mine turned out really good. Only issue mines had was the same paint issue on the inside of the V fin. Which would be hard to do well anyways, so i wasnt too bothered by it. But it plays well, feels great, and i love mine.

    I too have had quite a few issues with the newer Jackson guitars. Sharp fret ends, terribly offset tuning key installation to go with unreasonably terrible tuning stability with their Jackson brand locking trems and also a fair bit of fret buzz, just poorly setup. In comparison, my LTD and Schecter guitars are top-notch in the quality control department and also set up nicely, and I love them!

    Thanks for this, been looking at Jacksons again, but will now consider alternatives too. Best wishes from England 👍

    I own 13 Jacksons and all are great guitars, only one is MIJ. I bought a Gus G model recently and the neck was trash. The fret ends were so sharp and the fretboard was cracked. I had to buy a replacement Jackson neck and now it's a real player

    That breaks my heart. Around 1994 I got a base Kelly guitar. I've always wanted to later pick up a higher end Kelly with the shark fin inlays once I was older and can afford it. Now that I can afford it, it isn't the same team that made Jackson back when I was in high school. The shark fin inlays also look smaller than what I remember too. It might be my faulty memory though.

    Sorry to hear that man. Mine does not have any of those issues so I'm not sure what the previous owner might have done to it. You can see my video of unboxing and review on it. I will say that at the coast it should have come with a gig bag and luminlays for sure

    My Jackson I bought last year was just about perfect basically. It was a soloist Slx green crackle and it was setup great, had nice and low action, good fret work, and was good all around for $700. Only complaint now is the hardware its self these days like the pickups

    I bought 2 Jackson soloists 3-4 years ago and I was very unimpressed for being $700-$800. They both felt like $300 guitars and had some bad QC issues as well. Really disappointing since I used to dream of owning a Jackson as a kid
