  • !!!WARNING!!!Jackson Guitars QC Issues...AGAIN!!!
    In this video, we revisit the Jackson Corey Beaulieu KV7Q that I purchased back in the summer of 2020. A few reasons: 1) there were more problems with it than I was able to catch in the first video that I did when first acquiring the guitar(including one that I actually caught during the filming of this video). 2) many customers are STILL receiving poorly made instruments in high numbers, so until things improve I'm speaking out about it. 3) I genuinely give a crap about the brand or else I would not be making videos of me playing, purchasing, and/or discussing their guitars. I want to see things improve. YOU want to see things improve. Jackson is a huge name in both rock/metal guitar players all over the world and we don't want to see this trend continue on with them. Certainly a lot has changed throughout the years within the brand, but to see this decline in quality on a regular basis throughout their entire catalog is very disappointing! Every tier of their models/series has seen this too, not just the lower end stuff.
    If you guys have not seen my first video on this guitar, link is right here:
    • WARNING Jackson Guitar...

    Good thing some of those issues can be fixed. What pisses me off is that at that price point, you shouldn't have to do anything other than enjoying the guitar. Theres a reason why I chose to stick to the early 90s models or the Japanese Jacksons.

      Pretty much anything Japanese made from the 70s-90s is golden. I have a 90s Fernandes and it plays amazing. I left it untouched for months because I was really into my Epiphone LP and when I picked up my Fernandes it was perfectly in tune.

    It appears that you're adjusting your tuners with your nut locked. That popping is probably the strings slipping through the tight nut. That could also be what has caused a gap buy stressing the nut out and ripping it up.

      @RollerCoasterFenatic 2 года назад +2

      Exactly!! Duh

    • @MarbsMusic
      @MarbsMusic 2 года назад +8

      I doubt someone who has used floating bridges is making that mistake. The issue could be the tuners but also the nut, over the years I have seen a number of locking nuts that the screws were stripped and when tuning it pops like that. It will also do it when locked and the trem is used. I picked up a Premium Ibanez a few years ago because it was doing that. The owner said it was mint but was selling a pretty much brand new guitar for half off... when it did that I could see his facial expression change with worry as he obviously didn't know it was a simple fix.
      If it was locked and he was turning it the string would either break or would unwind if it was a wound string, the tuner wouldn't just start working again. There are probably gear issues inside The JACKSON branded tuner...

A shim isn't a deal breaker and really has nothing to do with the price of a guitar. The one is this video however doesnt appear to have been done correctly if it is shimmed.

Just bought a Jackson Dinky, I ordered it at guitar center in San Antonio Texas. I've had it 2 months now and I opened it at the store and thankfully no problems what so ever. This channel is cool, cause it's true, guitars and many products are cheap now adays, in the 80's guitars were all well made. I have been fortunate to have never owned one in such shape as the one in this video. How Jackson would let that one go in that condition is unacceptable. Good video, I purchased a $700 Kelly, beautiful guitar. Everything seemed pretty nice until you try to do a solo hit the high E and then, string slips off the fretboard... all the frets are filed down so close to the string... that the slightest vibrato causes the string to slip off. Returned the guitar because I can't have that. I went to a local guitar store they had the same model guitar and same issue, it's annoying and a very serious issue.. one thing is cosmetic issues, but when it effects playability its very disappointing in a whole other level and it should be such a simple thing for qc to notice It shouldn't even be happening. Oh well.
    Either way. Great video man. Thanks for posting it and raising awareness of these issues 🤘🏻

    Hello Kevin, great video - thats a real shame that the guitar was riddled with issues. If that guitar was built in 2020-2021 I wouldn't be surprised if it did not go through some form quality control. Since the pandemic started (not that we have heard enough about it already) every manufacturer has been working with skeleton staff, its not just unique to guitar manufacturers, its also happened quite prominently to car manufacturers, the construction industry and packaging just to name a few.
    In my opinion avoid anything made in 2020-2021, so many corners have been cut to ship these products.
    I like jacksons, I own a 96' dinky performer series which sounds brilliant, but i've tried a fair few jackson and charvels from around 2008 onwards and their quality and playabilty in some cases don't match their earlier products (with the exception of the made in Japan stuff, but even now its hit and miss).
    I have a question, when you lock the tuners does do the strings pitch go sharp?
    Also have you tried elixir poly/nano/optiwebs for strings? They used to use d'addario's strings and coat them with Goretex and they last for a long time as long as you don't scrape your pick up and down the strings too much. I would imagine they don't do a heavy enough gauge though.

    The only Jackson I currently own is a DK modern ash HT6 which I love. I picked it up in a local store and played it. Came home without it because I wasn't sold on the look. Brought my fiance back with me a few days later to play it and she saw the look on my face and told me to buy it. It is *almost* flawless. A little bit of sloppy binding near the headstock but other than that I haven't really found any issues in the just over a year I've owned it. I've played a few others at local shops that were...less than stellar though. I honestly feel that I got lucky that mine is as nice as it is. I've had some issues with pitch drift and the neck is surprisingly unstable, but worksmanship wise its very solid.

    So I bought a cheap Dinky - $299 at my local shop. Believe it or not its for the most part a decent guitar. However - the 3rd fret on the high E and the 14th fret on the high E are a HOT MESS. You can not play these 2 frets because the next fret is raised so those notes are bascially muted. I didnt notice this issue as the action on the guitar at the shop was REALLY high. When I adjusted it I noticed....I need to take it somewhere t fix it as it drives me crazy. I bought this guitar as a "beater" as I wanted something I can keep out and grab anytime I wanted to just play for a few minutes and not have to worry about it getting banged up or anything but ---- this is super disappointing. I would be SUPER irate if I spent as much as you did on yours. Keep doing what you do! You rock man!

    I got a Jackson KVXT second hand and I barely have to tune it. The previous owner may have replaced the pegs on it and other things tho I’m not sure. Then again it’s not a floating bridge.

    Nut is very likely shimmed, usually done to provide higher action to avoid playing issues at the shop front level. Guarantee if you remove the shim it will not only sit flush but get youre action down lower, play better and play better in tune too!

    I bought 2 Jackson Pro series guitars in the last 14 months. The one from indonesia hat a bunch of QC issues (one dead fret, a number of cosmetic problems). Thomann gave me a partial refund and I was able to fix most of the problems and now it is my favourite guitar. The one from China was pretty much flawless. For some reason though the string reverse headstocks the wrong way from the factory and it causes a bunch of tuning instability.

    So it’s completely anecdotal, but I have one of the Japanese RR24 guitars from 2006, wonderfully built, no complaints, built well.
    I purchased an Indonesian RR24 sometime last year and I definitely felt a major dip on quality. Finish issues, fret issues, etc… I don’t think it was by any means a BAD guitar because it played well, but there was most definitely a major dip on quality from the days of Japanese built imports of the 90s-2000s into the Indonesian built ones.
    I think Indonesian factory’s are making INCREDIBLE instruments, but Jackson is dropping the ball I think here.

    I have a pair of SLX guitars made in indonesia purchased within 6 months of each other and have zero of the problems mentioned and I've looked them over HARD. The only noticeable item on both was that the nuts wasn't centered properly but by simply loosening the screws and retightening in the proper position all is now well. I also have a 2000 SL MIJ and can say these new ones play about the same. The pickups kinda suck but that's another discussion......

  • @GM-mr7lw
    @GM-mr7lw 2 года назад

    Are you sure you're not trying to tune up with the nut locked? That would explain the immediate tightening of the tuners, then the noise as it gives and frees up. Would also explain the nut being lifted by the stress of it all.

    At present I am rocking a Jackson and a new Harvey Benton. And the sound from my Jackson is my favorite. I can't really tell about some of the sound except it's where I feel alive. I have been thinking about getting a vee shaped instrument...so I am seeing a huge advantage by being warned about QC. Anyway, just talking about it makes me want to go out to my studio and jam. But that glue up corner, and the sanding bit at neck join body are dirt shoddy...and where I don't get what happened to this ax. The big question I would ask might be like: Has Jackson said from the rock vee..."buy this and if scut finish happened...pay the price to that design and pound sand?"
    I'm glad for the warning...and glad at the same time .....I have such an axe to battle every day, every week so I don't feel so locked down...because I'm free. M

      @@rahulmenon4357 cheap is better because it’s more justifiable to expect some flaws. And also, they are amazing mod platforms. For half the price you can buy a cheap Jackson, mod it and do some fit and finish work on it and have it play better than some of the more premium guitars.

    Get your hands on a ESP or E-II, they’re made in Japan and the quality is amazing. That’s really sad that QC is getting so bad in the guitar industry. It seems like no matter what brand you buy nowadays, theirs some sort of QC issues. I recently bought a brand new ESP E-II and I can tell you this thing is perfect. Plays amazing. Give ESP a try if you’re frustrated with the rest.
