I just got your Dirty Shirley pedal as a Christmas present from my wife. I’m floored by how amazing it sounds!!! I play on Lower Broadway in Nashville, and have to play all styles of music. I’m amazed at how much ground is covered by this little pedal; rock, country, blues, some metal, and some pop! Sounds fantastic on a Marshal JTM, Bogner Shiva, Immix 11 VS30, and even a Quilter 101. Had about 16 hours of solid gigging with it since Christmas. I’m in love with it. Makes me want to upgrade to the real DS!
Took me 3 days to watch this show in increments but totally worth it - the 1.5x speed increase is still weird. You Tube leaves the clip exactly where you end it, so that's a better option IMO than the 1.5x speed option. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Single channel amp for me. Every amp I have had in my life I always seem to stay on one channel and use my volume knob to change dynamics and volume. It's just how I learned
Thank you for being so nice and answering questions! It means a lot to us. Regarding the ”LPD Pedals”, Phil McKnight talks a lot about them on his Know Your Gear-channel, maybe he knows more about it.
Hey Marc and Dave, I've seen every episode, but have never commented. Thanks for all the great shows this year. Looking forward to see what you have in store for 2018.
Happy New Year Mark & Dave. I’ve really enjoyed the shows and the open ended nature means you really dig into the subject and the guests have been unfailingly brilliant too. Looking forward to the new year shows. 🤘🏻👍🎸🤘🏻👍🎸🤘🏻👍🎸
Great show as always! Here’s who I’d like to see on: Warren DeMartini Mike Soldano Rheinhold Bogner George Lynch Doug Rappoport. Keep up the great show!
Thanks for a killer 2017 year Dave & Mark...Looking forward to all my Friedman/Synergy gear in 2018! Congratulations on the most Killer RUclips show on the net! Nice know that all of us Gear Nerds (especially you two) are here to stay. Rock n Roll Aint Noise Polution, Rock N Roll Will Never Die!!!! Rock on you Tone Talking Hipster Nerds!!!!!
Thanks for these shows guys, the long format really makes it feel like a hang with friends where personalities come through. Would love to see Scott Splawn on the show!
I bought a SmallBox a couple years back and had an issue. Dave diagnosed over email but I had to send the amp back to get it fixed. Ended up being a loose solder joint on one of the filament wires (I think I’m saying that right)? This was around Christmas time, they had the amp back to me in 2 weeks and I absolutely LOVE the SmallBox. I mention this because anything hand made things happen, it’s how companies deal with issues/hiccups that matter and I can honestly tell anyone looking to buy a Friedman to just pull the trigger. Dave is a solid guy and stands by his products (what other business owner of Friedman’s size is answering direct customer emails??), Since then I’ve purchased a DS40, Friedman 4x12, 2x12 slant and 2 1x12’s (no joke) and I’m about to order the SS100 v2. Amazing amps!!
I use the SAT switch on my Friedman modded Marshall SL all the time. It is amazing for turning the amp way down and switching the SAT on. 100 watt bedroom lvl applications, the switch adds that saturation you need for that cool breakup.
Tone-Talk oh yay thank you so much! ❤️ I’m not totally sure if Diamond will be there this year. Hopefully they are, but I don’t think they went the past two years.
I regularly gig a Runt 50 head boosted with a Suhr Kokoboost for “high gain” tones. Really fantastic results! Will a BE-100 or a BE-50 Deluxe be significantly different in terms of the amount of gain, tonality? Or, is it mostly it’s “feel” that is better ? Not sure how much better an amp can sound than what I’m currently using...also, how would you compare your Buxom boost to a Suhr Kokoboost?
How the hell can you have negative comments about Pete Thorn ?! That guy is such a sweetheart and very generous with sharing !! (from what I've seen, I don't him personally).
Yeah Pete is a very down to earth guy that does not deserve any kind of trash talk! He has never once said something bad about another person . i have followed him for over 7 years now since he was first in YT and he always tries to help other players.
Great, great show, watching it from the Netherlands! Adrian VandenBerg would be great as a guest (fellow Dutchman)! Mike Landau or Dave Phillips would be awesome also!! Keep up the good work! Cheers!
Thanks for answering my question at 30:20 (and for getting the pronunciation of my surname right!). I can see why the OX is worth it's money. At nearly £1200 it's a lot of coin though
Can you use the runt 20 speaker out without a load box? I know you can use the xlr without a speaker but with about the speaker out can i send it straight into something like a Suhr Ace or Blubox?
I have had pretty much all of your shows on in the background while I have been filling legal forms for a couple of cases I have in my orbit. Great ... Simply great stuff to listen to. You guys are the real deal and I have a ton of respect for all you share with everyone. I really respect the way you treat your guests too. It simply all good. Thank You. Oh, I have a question that comes to mind as a result. I have a '59 Bassman that I love playing thru with a '85 Master Lead Mark II 50 watt Pushing 1x12 Eminence, thus creating my Wet/Dry set up. Fender Wet/Marshal Dry. Is there an attenuator that you can recommend that will work with the Bassman's 2 ohm combo? Weber Mass 100W is what I can find, that is if that's correct, I'm not sure? Thanks Again, Shane
Dave and I are the same age. It's funny, his first concert was The Who, and it would've been mine also, .. but my fist concert was in '82' when me and my friend went to get tickets at Sears for The Who's farewell tour and they were sold out. So we said what else do you have (to the old lady), and she said Van Halen, so we went to see VH on the Diver Down "Hide Your Sheep" tour for 12 bucks a ticket ha ha.
I know,.. I know...it's a good thing for me The Who were sold out ha ha! My first exposure to VH was going down to Woolworths , April/May of 81 and seeing the cover to Fair Warning in the record dept. I was so intrigued by the art work that I bought it. I can't remember if I knew who they were..I was 12, but when I got home and put it on the turn table, and heard the intro to Mean Street.........fugettaboutit, ha ha! I don't think my Dad approved, ha ha, but the next year , in the fall , it was my first concert....and my dad took me and my friend, ha ha, God rest his soul...Love the show btw! Happy New Year!
Ok I wrote the comment before I watched the second half the video:)! Thanks for your patience, this stuff is so great that I get a bit excited :D! Happy new year to you all!!!
Someone told me they had trouble blowing a transformer up with a Tom sholz power soak attenuator, are they known to do this, haven't hooked mine up in years, been to afraid too until I clear up this rumor.
Lawrence Petros is being promoted a lot by Phil McKnight's channel. The seem to be decent but I'd rather have the real thang. I would love to see a BE/Betty pedal offered up... BEtty
3:14:46 Apples and Oranges... you can have a Kemper/Fractal/Helix/Bias/Whatever and still have the amp in the room; all you need is a cab! Comparing a Amp&Cab with a digital Amp from studio monitors is two different things and not comparable. C'mon, it's not rocket science...
Phil Smith I’ve tried a Kemper in a 4x12 and other newer profiling amp heads that are powered out of a 4x12 compared to a real Tube Head. The difference is real.
Friedman merch'... FINALLY Yay! Happy new year guys. Love the show - played my Friedman Dirty Shirley Mini at a New Years Eve gig last night and it owned the place :O)
Small studio, limited budget, I must have a versatile amp. I can't wait to talk to you at NAMM! (er... if you let me.) Regarding custom amps.. would it be possible to build my own box from your pattern from exotic hardwood (I have a cabinet shop. In Burbank)?
Hi guy's, really enjoying your show. Q: would love to know the difference/benefits between cathode resistors (ie. 890ohm-1.5k- 2.2k)?. Phasing of the output of pre-amp tubes, do/should all the final output mirror the input signal and the relationship between guitar and Amp! Seeing that if an Amp has only one pre-Amp tube not all are talking signal from the cathode? Is Amp/guitar phasing a problem the further away you stand from it!?. I've had Amp (power) (ground)phase problems using two Amps ( fender HRDLX and Laney LC30) I was wondering would reversing the active power leads into the AMP fix the problem I know you can get ground lift switches etc but I was just wondering whether how the transformers were made contribute to the phase problem?.
I know it would be a tall order being international and all but Ben Crowe could be a cool guest. Martin Kidd formerly of Cornford and now Victory amps. Simon Jarrett from Kingsley Amplifiers would be decent guest as well. Bogner as well.
Really love this show. Happy New Year to you both. I would be curious to know when developing his guitars, why Dave decided to go with a traditional style guitar, rather than come up with a new shape with Grover. I’m also curious to know why he decided to relic them. Cheers guys.
I’m late to the party but man even the local acts that could draw 300-500 people in the early 80’s had great tone man… mostly just cranked Marshall’s. What a great time to be a young idiot man awesome
How impopular Steve Morse can be? He was sugested as a guest, Dave and Mark didn't react. Steve Morse is a great guy, legendary guitar player with a unique tone.
boy you gotta be a fan if you ask when a particular music company is going to stock something of yours in 2017! Ever heard of e-commerce? Internet get where your at? Dude watches youtube bont wont order from someone? idgi

Great show again! Just catching up on the ones I've missed..love it!!
Just watched the whole of this show over 2 days at work haha
Love the show and love Friedman amps, currently talking to Dave about a modded amp.
Took me 3 days to watch this show in increments but totally worth it - the 1.5x speed increase is still weird. You Tube leaves the clip exactly where you end it, so that's a better option IMO than the 1.5x speed option. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Please I will not stop begging you guys until Jeff Diamant from Diamond Amps and Guitars comes on! He is such a wealth of knowledge!
Luke Kramer Thanks and we will talk to him at NAMM to see what he thinks!
Tone-Talk oh yay thank you so much! ❤️
I’m not totally sure if Diamond will be there this year. Hopefully they are, but I don’t think they went the past two years.

Ray Torvalds We agree and the people or person needs to stay away from our show and Pete. Totally uncool and BS.
Totally agreed !

4) Tom Scholz (yeah right!)
5) Neal Schon

Nik, from ceriatone would be awesome as a guest!
Marc do you have any trouble on you evh el34 head sqeeling on the 3rd channel especially with delay
I did and i sold the amp. I didn't like the EL34 model. I got the stealth 50 instead

Tone-Talk and we can try two different tube amps and still have differences. Sorry Marc, but that's not an argument.
Love the show guys! How about getting Rene Martinez, SRV’s tech on the show?
Debatable the negative feedback from output is awesomeness

L. Scott Music come on by and sure we will talk to ya! Thanks for watching
If I’m ever gonna spend money on a custom amp, it would be something like a JVM with the channels of my choise 🤔
1 amp - with tons of possabilities 😊

I’m late to the party but man even the local acts that could draw 300-500 people in the early 80’s had great tone man… mostly just cranked Marshall’s. What a great time to be a young idiot man awesome
How about having Warren D Martini as a guest since we like his tone.
Get Henry Juszkiewicz on your show! :-)
Given how many times Dave gets asked about load boxes and attenuators maybe he should make them, lets face it people will buy em
Seriously... i believe cool cat is in necessary with a tube amp
Unnecessary...typo
